I was shocked by the size of the store and the variety of products. This Ace Hardware Store is the nicest Ace Hardware store I have ever been in, very clean and well organized. We found out that it had been a former bowling alley, hence the size. I went with my husband who was shopping for a grill. There was an excellent assortment of grills to choose from and Blaine, an employee, was friendly, knowledgeable and assisted us to pick out the right grill for our BBQ needs. The store has a vast assortment of hardware products whose sections were clearly marked and displayed neatly. My husband commented that there was even a fishing section. If you're tired of the huge 'Big Box' styled home improvement stores, you're in luck. Ace Hardwares is a reliable personable hardware store. This location is on the north side of Main St. in Dunedin. I needed some very specific Allen wrenches for a shower door project and didn't want to spend the money for a set of 10 or 20 wrenches. I told the sales associate exactly what I needed and he went right to drawer that had loose Allen wrenches. Awesome! The sales folk are always friendly and knowledgeable. OMG. I walked into this store and left three hours later. A bit of heaven for me for sure. What? A unique affordable shore boutique with coverups, flip flops that you can buy other straps to enhance your outfit, children gifts, jewelry, bachelorette things, night lights, serving ware, bar gifts, flags for the house, cool things to hang on your front, welcome mats with interchangeable centers, etc. Ok, I have to take a breath. I couldn't believe my eyes! THEN I walked each and every aisle in the hardware store! It's like an old time hardware store on steroids. I now know where to go to find things to fix things! Employees asked if I needed help (huh?). Wow. Then I stumbled upon the huge outdoor grill area. Oh and Wait! Then I saw and practically ran into the gardening section outside. I could go in and on... There is a free parking lot, it's clean and the aisles are marked so that I could find things without wandering around in tears of frustration. Prices are reasonable, too. OMG. This is the hardware store that everyone in the family loves to go to. I found so much here on my first visit that it has been my go-to for almost everything else for our home. Everything from pet food, a bike rack, fishing gear, Yeti stuff for Christmas, keys, paint, plants and tons of garden supplies like Shepard hooks and flags, hardware for hanging stuff like Ooks, and even sympathy cards! Of course they have the evil impulse items as you walk to the cashier - AND THERE IS NEVER A LINE. Seriously, this team has the logistics of this store down. Sure you have some young kids working there that are a hit and miss but most of them are in their "getting life experience" stage so just be patient and kind. Yes it might seem like you're talking to a Tic-Tac, but if you ask the right questions they will find that other Millennial who is the leader, and lead you to your product. I promise! (It's fun, I bring people there and do this on our way out for cocktails bc it's that much fun. It's my tailgating. Don't judge me.) This store also has a gift shop so some people, including myself, go in and are sucked in by it. It's the place you go when you need that little something for somebody, jewelry, a baby or bridal shower, or clothes...lots of great specialty clothing!! I got this rain slicker for hiking that is stored as a petit backpack when not in use! Double usage for 1 item, yessss please. Prices are reasonable on 95% of the store. If you have someone who is waiting in the car bc "you'll be right out" - bring your cell phone and tell them to text you in an allotted time. You won't be right out, you are lying to them and yourself. This place is hardware store heaven. Oh, and the seasonal and bbq section- it's like Disney for the macho. This place is awesome. I have been here for hardware reasons as well as gift shopping reasons. The store is smaller than the big box stores, and cheaper. It's also super close to my job so I like to go here right after work. It's never crowded but has a steady clientele. We had a screen door screen redone here, and that turned out well. We have bought the most obscure hardware part here. As far as gifts go- they're unique and can't be found anywhere else. And I love that. I was recently looking for a crab trap and a live well pump, went to West Marine, they didn't have the size I wanted, tried a few other spots, nothing. Was strolling thru hammerheads, and there they were. Was looking for some river rocks to put around a few bushes in the back yard. Went to Lowes and Home Depot, they didn't have the same kind. Went to Hammerheads and there they were. Was looking for a weedless hook for fishing the flats. Went to the Baithouse, Sports Authority, and Dick's, nothing. Went to Hammerheads, and there they were, plenty in stock. I have plenty more examples exactly like this, and after the fifth time this happened I realized this should be my go to place. This place offers a lot of useful items from toilet seats, and screws to poo-pourri odor eliminating spray. If you need it they probably have it. This isn't just like any Ace Hardware store this is a very unique large Ace, they have a section with all kinds of unique knick-knacks and they even sell jewelry, I haven't been to another Ace like this one, conveniently located in a plaza with other things like a tropical smoothie, and located close to myself. I find myself coming here for various things. If you need something I would come to this place, they have just about everything Lowe's and Home Depot have, keep in mind they are a bit more expensive then Lowe's and Home Depot. One downside to this place is their hours, they seem to close at 5-6 most days which makes them a little inconvenient. When you are working on that late-night project and bought the wrong size of screws, (this guy) let's just say the wife wasn't too happy. However I would suggest coming to this place and checking it out, bring the wife, the unique items in the front of the store will keep her interested while you go look at the tools and whatever you might need. This is store is best hardware store in the area. It has an awesome gift shop that has so many unique things. The staff here is fantastic they will do anything to please a customer. If you can't find it in the store they will try their best to see if it could be ordered for you. The store is clean and is unique on its own. You can find things here that it might not find anywhere else. The grill selection is awesome they have anything from table top butane stoves to giant big green eggs. The have a great selection of smokers as well. The garden area has a great selection of plants they always look fresh, and alive. The paint department is great, they have the all kinds of paint for many different jobs that you may have. I went in yesterday to pick up a special order and decided to get a key made for my 2015 Jeep Patriot. I went over to the hardware desk where Cheryl and Erin assisted me. We all went out to my car to see if the key would work after it was made but it wouldn't. Cheryl has to go back in an d shave the key down. She came back and had to use an iPad to program the key There were some glitches but Cheryl was able to get the key to work. I needed a new handle for my hand axe so I went to home depot, no luck. Lowes, nada. Hammerheads had five different styles and the employees helped me find them as soon as I walked in the door. It's the largest Ace hardware I've ever seen and is very well arranged. I'm only rating a four because of the small kitschy craft store located inside to the right, it detracts from the utilitarian feel a bit, but that's purely personal preference. Today I purchased 4 spray cans of 2 part rustoleum. It clogged it came out in spurts. Made a mess of awning I was painting. HAMMERHEADS ACE HARDWARE TAKES ADVANTAGE OF HURRICANE IRMA VICTIMS. Largo, FL I attempted to return an unused cooler today. The cooler remains unused, brand new, plastic fully in tact, tags secured, etc. The Manager on duty at 11:45am will not honor the store's everyday return policy stating that this item is now considered "hurricane related" and is now non-returnable. I was never made aware of this or I would not have purchased. The Manager recognizes the item is in brand new, unused condition, but points to Hand Written paper signs that are now taped on register counters. The Manager confirmed that if I had purchased this item one month ago, I would be able to return it, but because I purchased last week, he will not accept the return. This item is too heavy for us to lift and will not be able to be used by us. This ACE HARDWARE location was very quick to take customer's money last week as they frantically prepared for a possible Cat 5 Hurricane, but now refuses to honor their everyday return policy and accept unused items and refund customers. The Manager also stated that this is the current policy of Home Depot and Lowes. He was incorrect as I easily returned items to these stores today and was serviced with a smile. I simply request that this location honor their everyday Return Policy that customers are familiar with. read more
