We decided to call in an order and do takeout tonight, and everything was fresh, hot, and ready quickly. We started with a couple appetizers -- the Edamame and Gyoza, and both were very good. For entrees, we ordered the Chicken Fried Rice, which was flavorful and loaded with chicken. We also tried a California Roll and a Shrimp Tempura Roll, and both hit the spot. But the real star of the night was one of their Signature Rolls, the Yummy Roll! Made with crab, cream cheese, and avocado, then topped with eel, this thing was absolutely amazing. If you're feeling adventurous, skip straight to the Signature Rolls because that's where this place really shines. Inside, they have several tables and booths, plus a couple seats right in front of the sushi chef if you want the full experience. The service was outstanding from start to finish. They even called me by name when I arrived and carried the food out to my car that kind of customer service is hard to find these days. My water glass was always refilled and our food came out quickly. We tried the Panang curry and pad see ew. The curry was fine, not spicy at all. The noodles were pretty bland. I prefer my Thai food spicy, and this was not it. This is so sad to say, but after 4 years of eating here regularly (and giving it a 5 star review)...I now have to say that this restaurant has absolutely tanked in the last year. Unfortunately, this happens to some restaurants that are so good and popular that they lose their original quality and mission. The last 10-15 times we've gone here over the last year, it's been garbage. The flavor has totally changed across the board. The sushi tastes cheaper and less fresh, the Thai curry taste cheap and canned, the cut veggies totally don't taste fresh anymore, the chicken and beef taste rubbery and like the lower possibly quality meat...and the Thai noodles Pad Tsu sauce taste horrible! And don't get my started on the veggie eggrolls. There are FORSURE just frozen eggrolls from some package, and they tasted sour and off. Of course, the prices have also increased dramatically just in the last few years and the portion sizes have decreased. The good news? A few other new Thai and sushi restaurants have gone in both to the south and north of this place, so no need to go here anymore. I am making sure not to name names though, so it doesn't compromise the integrity of the post. But do your research and avoid at all costs! Before the new decor renovation, he used to have so many photos up of customers that he would invite as guests and host them and their families because they were suffering from illnesses like cancer. I ordered takeout from Sunset like I have many times before. it was a very large order. One family member started eating his fried rice and said it tasted like dirty dish water. I said that's really rude it can't be that bad. then I took a bite of my fried rice and I apologized to him because he actually had a pretty apt description. there was a weird smell and the taste was musty and not something I have ever experienced in fried rice. I since looked it up to see what the issue was. it could have been made in advance and improperly stored. It could be old rice. it could have been stored with something that went bad and absorbed the smell. Other family members tried the sushi and said one of the rolls had bad fish and another had the weird issue with the rice. Maybe the restaurant ordered too much going in to the holiday and the fish went off and the rice half prepared and left in the cooler absorbed the bad smell? Maybe their sink needs a water filter, or they used old rice. I really don't know. but a $300 sushi order went into the garbage. I've never had to do that before in my life but no one wanted to take a chance by tasting the rest of the rolls. I tried to email sunset sushi using their email from their website and it bounced back to me. I can't remember ever leaving a bad review for a restaurant but this was really unacceptable. I have to wonder what the kitchen looks like for them not to notice the rice smell. it's not something I will soon forget read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants. I have had almost everything on their menu. The sushi is great but my personal favorite is the panang curry. They make it more spicy than most places even on the basic level but I love it. They give you plenty in the portions so I always have leftovers. The staff is nice although sometimes they are fairly busy and you might be waiting for a minute to order. The vibe of the restaurant is lovely and casual but also inviting with their Asian flair. What I mean by that is I didn't see a lot of Asian people, so I can't imagine how authentic this place really is .I can only speak to what I ordered since ppl seem to like this place. I ordered a roll and it was very good, seemed fresh. Dumplings, which were good and what we actually came for was the pad Thai. It was so sweet!!!! Pure sugar. Wish it had more fresh green onions to offset the sweetness. I thought it was terrible. I hope this doesn't deter people from coming here and trying it unless they're actually looking for pad Thai in which case they should probably go elsewhere unless they like this week version. I had the pad Thai and green curry. I forgot to take a picture of my green curry but it was good! Pad Thai was different as it was really saucy. But the flavors were there especially the tangy tamarind that many other restaurants don't have. It had all the characteristics of pad Thai: tangy, sweet (a little too sweet) , spicy, and savory. Despite being different it was good. The green curry was good as well. Both had large portions and lots of protein. The service wasn't great as we watched servers gather at the bar and listened to them tell stories and make after work plans as we waited for our order to be taken as well as not getting checked on. Service was extremely attentive and the young Asian guy was absolutely a pleasure to observe as he greeted, served, and loudly wished a goodnight to those leaving. The food was not so exceptional. Sushi wasn't spectacular... Spicy tuna roll was just a chunk of tuna with some sriracha mayo slathered on the rice, not chopped up and mixed in and it wasn't spicy at all. Salmon nigiri was far too thick, chewy, and sadly had some skin remaining on the pieces, as well as there was no wasabi between the meat and rice, as is standard. There were a couple of rolls that had fishy tasting shrimp and tuna that was almost jerky-like and a little off. The miso soup was good, shrimp tempura and green curry were OK. Overall, it was spendy and none of us really enjoyed it, so we won't come back. But seriously, the service will be memorable. That kid is a real gem! read more
