I'm there pretty regularly for lunch. My first experience with them is actually that I ordered a sub and ask for it not to be toasted but they toasted it. I'm actually glad they toasted it because I feel like it was better than not toasted. After this, I kept getting it toasted from them. Lol. That was the only time that I had a minor problem with my order. I used to eat here all the time many years ago - my first time was probably in the early 80's. I don't even know where to start regarding my experience today. I ordered a chef salad with potato salad and cold cuts. There is very little lettuce in my salad and several pieces of the lettuce are brown. Very few cold cuts - perhaps half a slice of salami and half a slice of ham. The potato salad looks and tastes like it is from Sam's Club. What happened to the home made potato salad that was so delicious? The house/Italian dressing is mostly oil, very little vinegar and very few spices. Very disappointing. I won't be getting a salad from here again. However, I did have the steak and cheese a few weeks ago and it was fabulous. Different owner perhaps? They had a sub platter from here at work one day and the sandwiches were delicious so I asked where this place was. I went there today and got an Italian sub and it was great! This is a small family owned place. I've only ordered one item from their menu, the Italian, but I've ordered it many times and like it alot. They serve the Italian hot or cold, with your choice of ingredients. The bread used is a little chewy (nice) and I can't tell you the specific meats and cheeses used, but I'm sure they could. I request banana peppers, pepperoncinis, lettuce, onions, sometimes tomato. Fine shredded lettuce is used and topped with oil and vinegar, and salt and pepper. I just like this sandwich, the ingredients work very well together, and it's consistantly good. They have a wide variety of other items on the menu. I urge you not to judge the place strictly by appearance; they do a nice job with their sandwiches. read more

FOUL FUNKY DIRTY PLACE! Filthy! Not playing....just plain gross. Dust on everything, grease under that and just plain nasty on the soda machine. $10 for a combo of mediocrity with a side of bs attitude from the grill cook. Health dept needs to make an unscheduled visit ASAP. I'm an easy customer, but I don't play that dirty food prep sh*t. If you have choice, don't eat at this joint. I couldn't ask much more from a modestly priced Italian sub. There was a nice combination of meats and cheese, the roll was warm and fresh, and the trimmings were ample with a light oil and vinegar dressing. The potato salad was fresh and made on site. My friend had a roast beef that she reported was excellent, as was the philly steak she had the week before. It gets three stars because the sandwiches are pretty good and the prices dirt cheap. The staff is friendly. I usually get the egg salad sandwich at $3.75 a good deal. or the cheeseburger at $4. A few complaints - I've been going in here regularly as I've been doing temp work nearby, and so have two of my coworkers. The staff knows we work two doors down, we have name tags on and are in regularly. They have a punch card for purchases and you get a free something or other when done. Never mentioned to any of us even though one or more of us is in there daily. Found out when the lady in front of me had one and had it punched. and It doesn't work on hamburgers even though some sandwiches are the same price. Huh? Also, went in yesterday for a burger, came with a burnt bun. Was not changed out even when i said something. Should have given me a new one. third complaint, they charge extra if you pay by charge card. I wouldn't have so much of an issue if they would have said something BEFORE they did so, or if they had a sign posted. Overall decent for the money but some of the little stuff stops it from being better. Like don't give me a burger with a burnt bun even after I say something. read more

The service wasn't particularly friendly. The sandwich was huge, with a fresh good hoagie roll but, the meat was cheap kinda gross meat. The other not so good thing was ,that there was quite a bit of oil on the sandwich. I didn't ask for it though. The macaroni salad was good though it tasted mass produced possibly. I have been eating @ Sunset Subs for over 30 years and It is ALWAYS INCREDIBLE!!!, Recently they have added a few new things to the Menu (ie; Combos) but I have not tried them because I stick with what they are known best for...Their Subs. I saw some comments below about being a family owned shop, But I think that is what sets them apart and that's why its always so consistent GOOD & FRIENDLY! I was incredibly dissapointed. This place sucks. I asked for a Cuban and fries. What I got was a tiny fake supposed "Cuban" and pasty white potatoes that could have been fries had they been actually cooked. This cost me Seven Dollars?!!! You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! For a quick work or out shopping on the weekend lunch this is a great little place. I am a fan of the vegetarian sub with onions, peppers, mushrooms, tomato, lettuce, and provolone cheese - served hot. Did not order their fries on my most recent trip, but I remember them being very crisp, just the way I like them. My husband ordered a Cuban and while I don't think he will be ordering that again he had a bite of mine and loved it. The bread is chewy and they finish the sub off with some oregano seasoning that is delicious. When I worked nearby I would call ahead my order for pickup and they would always have it ready for me within 10 minutes. Sunset Subs is a great option for a quick lunch at reasonable prices. read more

I needed a sub place and did not want the usual FH subs. I can say, with no doubt this was the worst steak and cheese sandwich I have ever had. Terrible steak and cheese sub, just terrible. I walked in, first time, no one was there, it was probably around 8:30, smelled smoke coming from the back kitchen area, and was not impressed. I should have walked out and instead ordered a half steak and cheese sandwich because it was not really a sub, so to speak. Loudy service also, and the woman making my "sub" forgot a topping. The wheat bread (I thought I would be healthy) was flat and it fresh, it was crap. I have eaten at a lot of sub place around, in many different states and this was low on the list. This was my first time and I based going there on reviews and my experience sucked. Will not be back, and I highly doubt the owner will contact me for a refund or anything. The italian subs are always good but the restaurant is getting progressively dirtier every time I go in. Today it seems the fryer was broken as well so no mushrooms for me. The AC barely works so it is usually seriously hot in there. I Was told the owner would not do anything about the ac as the unit is too small for the place and he apparently refuses to shell out the cash for a new unit. The bathrooms are gross. I used it once will never go in there again. CLEAN THIS PLACE..... I could see straight into the back today as the door was open and it was nasty. I may give it a go again but it will be a while. I have never been ill after eating there but after today I worry it may just be a matter of time. I would give four stars for the sub alone but just yuck to the atmosphere. read more

Please remind staff to wash hands, per state health regulations: It's important after smoking outside in front of the restaurant and then walking inside, taking your order and cash, and then only putting on gloves is simply not enough. For the last 15 years I have been eating here fairly regularly. There is something to be said about the old "mom and pop" shops. I like the fact its family owned and the food is second to none. Homemade soups daily and the steak and cheese is awesome! I would recommend it to anyone wanting home cooked food while out and about. I see why they have been around for so long. read more

I would have given this place 5 stars except recently they keep getting what we have ordered wrong! We have ordered our subs from this site since late 90s but recently, things just aren't right. Once again, hubby got home with the two we ordered and one is completely NOT what was ordered. There was a day when you ordered an Italian and you got one without having to tell the maker everything you wanted on it! Not so much now. So, you tell them what you want, get it home and it's not only missing 2 items, there's something on it NOT ordered! Sorry, my husband isn't the type to watch over these people to make sure they get it right, nor should he have to. So, now I'm sitting here, waiting, again, for the right sub. My son worked there for a couple of years so I know how subs should be made there. Steve was the owner - is he still?
