I used to jog around here quite often. Great view of Manhattan and great park overall. There's a public pool that opens up during the summer and other recreational activities in the main building. Only con I can think of is that you can't really picnic during the summer because lots of people like to play soccer and the soccer ball probably will get on your food or hit you. read more

There's FREE ZUMBA at 7pm Tues and Thurs in the locker room. But sometimes it's difficult to see the instructor. I hope they'll put up a stage or have the instructor dance in the center of the room. Overall, its awesome. :) read more

Outside of Greenwood Cemetery this is the highest point in Brooklyn and luckily instead of building condos here they kept the area as a park were everyone can enjoy the great views. The view of Manhattan is awesome. During the winter this park is one of the only places in Brooklyn that you can go sledding (Fort Greene Park and Owls Head Park are also options), unfortunately the hill has a fence right by the bottom and a lamp post every 50 or so feet so there's no sliding to a gradual stop and you have to watch where you're going. The park also has plenty of benches, chessboard tables, a playground, and everything else you'd want in a park. Also within walking distance to Sunset Park is Melody Lanes, one of the handful of regular bowling alleys in Brooklyn. If you haven't been to Sunset Park it's definitely worth checking out. In terms of during the summer, the park isn't the best manicured and get a little shady at night and isn't the cleanest but it's still it's a decent park with a great view. read more

Sunset Park is awesome. It has great view of Red Hook and you can even see the Manhattan skyline. It seems that this is one of Brooklyn's best kept secrets. The park faces 5th Ave which has a lot of delicious Mexican food. Usually I grab a couple of tacos and an Arizona Iced Tea and make my way up, relax and enjoy the view. read more

This park has one of the highest elevations in the borough of Brooklyn. Greenwood Cemetery I beleive is second to this park. What a great view of the Statue of Liberty and the Lower Manhattan sky line. Great views of the sunset over the water. Sunsets have a way of making you really appreciate life a little more. The handball courts are great. The basketball courts are fun and the olympic size swimming pool has been really really crowded this summer. Plus you can find some really cheap mexican food down on 5th avenue. Or head up to 8th avenue for some good Banh Mi and watermelon smoothies. read more

Had some crazy-ass experiences at this park growing up. Used to go to the liquor store right on 5th, buy a nasty sisquo, get some other stuff and have a great night with my friends and cousins. The view at the top of the hill is just awesome, get a blanket lay out and enjoy it all. Don't expect a quiet experience because it's packed most of the day and even at night. Lots going on here so don't get mad if you can't get that zen moment. read more

It's not a park for sports -- though people play them -- because it's hilly and small and crowded. Nor is it for solitude and quiet, at least not on a beautiful weekend evening. But it is a great place to watch different slices of Brooklyn celebrate sunshine and the last light of a beautiful Sunday. And, true to its name, the sunset views are killer. read more

Great park in a great location; I was slightly turned off by the amount of people kicking soccer balls that kept making their way into the crowd, and that people kept letting their dogs piss on the grass where I was trying to find a seat on (and presumably letting them do whatever other business they wanted to do there as well) - other than that, fantastic view of both downtown, the waterfront and Jersey (if you're into that sort of thing..) Watching the sunset while sitting in a park in BK with some amazing food all around you though? That's worth 6 stars. read more

since this is the best park in my area, I might be a bit prejudice. one: if you like photography or painting and Manhattan fascinates you, this is the park to indulge in your hobby. its relaxing, it's green, and you can see those skyscrapers very clearly. If you like walking uphill (for exercise) and rolling down hill (for fun) this is the park to do it. If you like to swing in the kiddie-park (hey who said swings are only for kids?) while breathing fresh air and at the same time seeing the whole Manhattan spread out before you (and feel as though you are flying over the city) then this is the place to come and do it. If you like to sketeboard/rollerblade/bike downhill, well, this is the perfect place to start and you can keep blading/biking/skating out of the park and all the way down to 8th or 9th avenue. (just watch out for cars, these are busy streets. read more

This place is a good place to see the sunset....... when there is a lot of people of course. This is a good spot for couples, other than the sunset seens, I would never go to this park. I go to the handball courts and all i see on the floor is blood..... fresh..... blood, with nice people drinking there, got to say the morning is the best time to be there..... i literally got the crap scared out of me. This park is the namesake of the neighborhood and one of its best features. Views are gorgeous virtually any time of day, but I don't need to tell you when they'll be extra special ;) The park features an outdoor pool, volleyball and basketball courts, soccer turf and ample lawn space. It's on a hill (how could you have ever guessed!) so keep that in mind when you pick your shoes for the day. The park is close to some of the best eats in Brooklyn's Chinatown, including dumplings and pho that are out of this world. I personally love to bike here on my long treks through the borough. It's also a great date spot for obvious reasons. read more

The best part of this park is the scenic views of Lower New York Bay. This is also a great park for baseball players, basketball and handball players. Bikers will appreciate the roundabout hillside drops. Not recommendable for book lovers, because it's constantly packed with families most of which play soccer. Don't get me wrong I love this park, I've never been in it's pool, but I did play baseball here when I was a kid,and I still ride my bike in this park. The moments spent here might be temporary, but the memories last a lifetime. read more

As others have said, gorgeous views that surprise you when you first see them. A nice city park - chessboards where old men play games, courts, open areas, plus the pool, which I haven't used. Grab an horchata from 5th Avenue south of the park (you know, any corner or restaurant) and read a book in the park, or just admire the view. read more

We love this park. My husband takes our dog here for a walk once per day for an hour. Our dog is really friendly and well-behaved so he is able to let her off the leash most days. Dog owners are polite and know their dogs; they will not take their dog off the leash if the dog can't handle it. There are several large spaces to play fetch and run. There used to be a dog run but for some reason they've fenced it off. :-( Anyway, if you're a dog owner and want your dog to meet other nice dogs, this is the place to be. read more

A nice neighborhood park and landmark of the Sunset Park neighborhood. Has a nice view of Manhattan. There's a swimming pool there.

I come here a lot to walk dogs from the local shelter, Sean Casey (39th Street between 5th and 6th ave- look for the green awnings and garage door opens when it's warm). This park is pretty big and must have one of the highest elevations in Brooklyn. The views are pretty awesome if you've never been. Great to see the SUNSET obviously. There are lots of grassy areas and it's a great place to walk your dog. It's an off-leash park before 9 am too, but I've never been. I usually come in the afternoon and there are plenty of dogs walking around with leashes, with an occasional off-leasher. It's a clean park. read more

I remeber living and going to school in this area in the 80's It was an amazing childhood in those days. Sunset park was such amazing park cause of the view during the 4th of july you get to see the macy's firework display. Amazing deli's back in the day not sure about now. Who knew there was a park in NY that could make me feel like I was in San Francisco! Go and see: hilltop views taking with water beyond isn't the usual NY panoramic. The park itself isn't too special, but at the same time I can understand why I've recently come across a slew of local features on this spot. My son lives in the neighborhood, so we walked over to the park when we visited in April. Lovely views of the NYC skyline and lots of folks just enjoying the weather. Nice that it's so close to 5th Ave for any food cravings you may get while in the area. read more

Whenever I jog or take small walks here in the early morning I enjoy the view of lower Manhattan from the park. I'm very grateful for having a park so close to where I live. It's a diversely appreciated gem for our sunset park neighborhood as it has swings a playground and indoor rec. center for children/adults. It also has a running track but it's best to use it in the early morning as it's shared with a futbol field which is almost always in use. read more

the highest point in brooklyn and the best view while you're throwing a frisbee. making a loop around this small but quaint walking park feels like a trip around the world with many diverse populations converging to talk, play, hoolahoop, and dance. plus, there is one of the luxurious city pools in the park. it's a great place to hang. read more

a very good alternative to red hook, very similar to red hook's pool. laps get busy, so get there early. these guys could use to improve their locker rooms, but still, free and a great workout pool. read more

the grass is a lil bit dirty but The park is great, especially for moms and kids!! there's a playground there, a very nice water splash and a pool. we didn't go to the pool yet because there was a huge line and it was so hot for us to wait, maybe next time. Oh and the view is beautiful read more

For a most beautiful look at the Manhattan skyline, there is a hill here inside this park. For women, girls and teens --- do not go in the park alone after dark. The park is fairly safe in the daytime. I heard that they have an indoor pool here but have not confirmed that. Anyone know? read more
