Great stay. This is where I will stay on my next trip to Murphy. Very clean, great location!

We stayed at Sunset Motel recently. The room was clean and smelled of cleaning products. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning unit was loud. Although they do not allow smoking in the rooms, smoking is allowed on the porch outside of each room. If you are smoke sensitive you need to be aware of this smoking policy. We stayed two nights. Check-in was easy enough although our greeting was not unfriendly it did not set a comfortable tone. A basket of fruit, granola bars & mini muffins were left in our room for the second morning but I was not told if there was a basket for the first morning of our stay. A coffee maker is available in the room. Noise levels here are not bad considering the motel is located downtown with restaurants nearby although late arrivals can be noisy. They have several motorcycle guests here. read more

This place is a simple roadside motel. It's small. It is not flashy and does not have fancy amenities. We chose to stay here as we were going to the local casino and did not need an upscale room. This place for the bill. It was the least expensive of our options. However, we have stayed in fancier hotels that were not this nice. The room itself was very clean. We had a little breakfast basket with fruit and muffins. The front desk clerk was very friendly and cheery. While this is not a place I would stay for a week long vacation, it was perfect for a weekend. It does not have a pool. It's a throwback to roadside motels from the 50s and 60s. It even has the decor to match. I wish every place I stayed on vacations was as clean as this place, as well as having a friendly staff. read more

This review is long over due! I stayed here back in June and was shocked! It's an AMAZING motel and exceeds anyone's standards for a "motel". We thought it would be great bc of the reviews we read, ABSOLUTELY NOT! First thing they do not open until 3pm, You are most certainly on their time. They do not offer a Do Not Disturb sign for your door, so I'm guessing in their eyes that means they come in your room whenever they want!!!! Yes, they did this to me and my family. I had told her when she came to my door the day before that we were fine and wouldn't be needing anything and if I did during my stay, I would let them know. Well while we were away they went through our room, she claimed " she needed to straighten up " but the bag of trash I had taken out of the can earlier was still in my room. No, before anyone asks were we being disrespectful or disturbing in anyway. We did not trash the room , so why would you go in my room while I wasn't there. NOSEY FKN KARENS AT THE END OF THE DAY! I have never had that happen to me and it's such a bad feeling! God only knows what they really do! read more

This is a great family run MOTEL with a 50's and 60's motif, harking back to when the US hit the road with personal vehicles. The owners' personal design touch is on every square inch of this place. Excellent renovation of bathrooms, fruit and snack bars in a basket in your room, in-room coffee which actually tastes good, and a great view of town from your private door to your room. A motel is the place to say during Covid and probably after. You pull up to your parking spot with the same number as your door. Everything here is very clean, even the parking lot looks freshly painted. In room form fridge, large TV on wall. Great HVAC system for each room (no air exchange with other guests). Nanahala NOC is a beautiful drive of about 30 minutes but the large flat plain between Murphy and Andrew is one of the prettiest 360 degree view of mountains I have ever seen. read more

I never leave reviews, literally. However, I was so impressed with this motel I felt I had to! I love small, independent motels, reminds me of old Florida. This joint looks recently updated and has an adorable throwback decor. The woman at the front desk (I didn't catch her name) was extremely friendly. She brought us a breakfast basket full of fresh fruit, granola bars, and mini homemade muffins. It was only a few minutes from the casino and seconds to anything else you would need. We will definitely be visiting Murphy again and I will most certainly be staying here. Thank you! read more

This was an adorable little find! Very clean and cute! Even a small basket for breakfast! I only wish they had a plug in the bathroom so I could have gotten ready easier! But it was very close to everything that we needed for the day trip from the coast! They even let my friend pay a pet fee for my mini me! read more

We stayed at the little gem for 2 nights. Our group opted for the suite. The decor is absolutely adorable. Retro scheme with so much charm. It is well situated on a main road and close to stores and restaurants. Dunkin' Donuts was less than a 5 min drive. Walmart less than 10 mins. We got to meet the owner as we were checking out and she asked how our stay was. You could tell she truly cared about the satisfaction. There were some bikes you could ride through town. In the suite was a mini fridge with water. A coffee maker, microwave and a basket of fresh fruits ( apples tangerines and banana) as well as some baked goodies. Cleanliness- I will admit I am very picky on my room being clean. This room was perfect. It was completely spotless. All the way down to the bathroom. The bed- The suite had 2 rooms a queen bed in one and a king bed in the other. The king bed was a bit too hard for my liking. However the couch was super comfy. My mom enjoyed the bed. The bad- The only reason I could not give it 5 stars is the parking. We were in the suite which is right beside the office. Each room is assigned a parking spot however this room didn't appear to have one. We had to park in a no parking spot. Which I can deal with except a member of our party is disabled. Luckily another guest was able to help us get him in the room as the steps were steep. And we had no choice but to get him to walk up the 2 or 3 steps. The handicap accessible ramps were not available for our room. All in all the stay was great and defiantly plan to stay here another night. Even in the suite. read more

We have been to Murphy several times over the years and was familiar with the hotel by sight only. We checked in and stayed in the suite directly beside the office. 2 bedroom,sitting area and bath. I was still skeptical until we opened the door!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! Extremely clean, cozy, quaint and peaceful!!! Even parked my softail directly outside the door under the covered area!!! I would rate more than 5 stars if I could!!! We will be back!!! Awesome!!! read more

I was heading toward Asheville and knew I wasn't going to come close before sunset, so I decided I'd stay at the Days Inn in Murphy. Well, as I drove around town checking it out for fun, I happened across Sunset Motel. One look and I was sold on it. It's considerably less expensive, great Internet, TV, very quiet location near downtown instead of being on the busy highway. Very nice woman at the front desk, very clean room. If I could give this place ten stars all around, I would!! In my 50+ years of travels, I would put this place in the upper echelon!! Even if you're not a fan of motels, this place is worth the stay!! From the picturesque location within walking distance of the historic downtown to the friendliness of the family-owned staff to the cleanliness of the room/surroundings to the other pleasing accommodations (including a community firepit and screened-in deck), the place IS as good as it gets!!! While all of this is important, what sets this place apart is the décor!! The owner wanted a vibrant, 1960's look and she did it right!! From the pictures on the wall to the multi colored chairs outside each room to the screened-in deck to the way the building itself is painted and surrounding fence is decorated, you can't help but be energized by your surroundings!! Should your future travels take you anywhere near Murphy, including the casino which is just 10 minutes away, this is the place to stay!!!!! read more

Absolutely love this gem! We have stayed here multiple times and every experience has been outstanding! Clean rooms, attentive staff, proximity to everything is awesome, and they always update us on events and changes that will enhance our visit! Plus, the decor is fantastic and they keep adding extras without increasing the price (even though they absolutely could!) Found this motel by total luck, great location walking distance to fun bars and resurants, Place has been totally updated and each of the two (2) rooms we booked were quant and VERY clean. Michele was super nice, and even gave us some (old but clean) towels to wipe off our bikes in the morning. Room was not that clean when we arrived... Staff were rude even after they were shown service tags for my bosses dogs...They claimed we had dog hair in the room on dogs that don't shed (schnauzers) ... I was treated rudely when I asked about a lost item, and talked down to about the dogs my boss had in her room...Our stay was ok but not great. I was not impressed with the customer service... I was a bit skeptic about this place when we pulled up and I am one that just will not sleep in any hotel especially a motel anyway my friend booked this place just for a night while visiting cherokee since we usually come up go to the casino and usually go back home after a few hours at the casino we end up pulling over at a rest area to take a quick nap and then continue the drive back home, anyway my friend called to let them know we were not going to be there before they closed the lady gave him the room number and that she would leave the door unlocked and put the receipt and key on the table and we got there an hr later the clerk left everything like she said she would. I am a huge fan! I actually stayed an extra night it was so comfortable, clean and with an old school family / Route 66 vibe. it is very quiet yet easy-peezy 1 block walk to iconic old downtown of Murphy with cool taverns, pubs, music venues and the one screen old school Henn Movie theater.... the really cool thing is that sunset really comes into play... you can sit in the Adirondack chairs in front of your room in the late afternoon and bask in the setting sun.. perhaps reading but more likely catching a well deserved nap.... Absurd owners the lady runs the place and the husband is a cop that uses his authority around the motel I was told I had to be out of the room so that they could clean it everyday and the third day when I slept in I was told to get my stuff together and get out or the officer would throw me out physically when he got off from work. Apparently they both live here along with another officer in one of the rooms cool I thought security, not the case at this little motel. The bed is full of springs that poked through and all of the knick knacks have a quarter inch of dust on them I didn't care because it was affordable they charged me $45 a night flat. I am very picky about where I stay but took a last minute trip to Murphy and someone else arranged accommodations. Just the reputation of small, small town motels, I thought I'd have to find a different place. But the room was clean. Sheets, towels, bathrooms all clean. Even gave us extra towels quickly with no hassle. Big tv with good picture. Enjoyed chatting with the front desk employee. read more

My room didn't even lock; the door didn't shut. Tried to work it out with Customer Service Who are you thought would be nice about it but the lady was rude as can be. For the same price you can stay at the hotel at Harrahs Casino nice staff and very clean. Oh and for that part of North Carolina the cell reception is pretty weak. So you're in trouble if an emergency happens because there's no phone in the room and there's no 24hr staff. read more

I worked in Murphy North Carolina for about seven weeks in late winter/early spring 2015. I stayed at the Sunset Motel for all this time. I was very impressed with the cleanliness, and the quietness of this motel, plus the professional, and courteous staff. The rooms are cleaned daily and are exceptionally clean and very home like. I read a recent negative review by a man named Jim. I can't imagine what the trouble here could have been. From my experience, I know these accusations to be false. I also cannot imagine staying in a motel room for an extended time without leaving, either going to see sites, or working. Also, if you're not happy, why would you stay for many days? I stay very busy at work, and have plenty to do other than sit around and design trouble for others, but you will have that in this world. If you want to party, or throw down, there are plenty of bars and clubs in the area. But if you are looking for a nice quiet, clean and inexpensive place to stay I advise you to try Sunset Motel Murphy North Carolina. You'll be glad you did. Ray Burtner read more

Sunset Motel is a small motel run by Mom and Pop type business. The Owner and staff are nice and friendly. The cost is 50 dollars a night with is hard to beat. I have been coming here for more then a few years now with no problem. The place is quiet in the Center of Murphy, a great jumping off place for what ever you may want to do around the area. The rooms are always clean with clean bed sheets, towels, modern TV, small cooler that works, Wi Fi, sorry no summing pool. My last day there I checked out and went to have breakfast. When It was time to pay, Oh, Oh. Where's my wallet. I return to the Sunset Motel about 30 minutes later. As I was coming out of my car, the lady Motel owner came to me with wallet in hand and all it's contents still in side. She said, "I was waiting for you to come back, I knew you were going to need this". All I could say was Thank You. I offer to give a small reward for something No One Can Buy, Honesty. She would not take it. All she said was, just tell your friends we run a Nice Motel here. Yes you do, yes you do. if your looking of a Clean, quiet affordable place to rest, centrally located with places to eat near by and shop, This is the place for You.
