We stayed in this Murphy hotel while visiting my mom over Christmas. It's close to downtown Murphy where you can find some cute spots to eat and shop. Check in was easy and the person who checked me in was super friendly. Our room was clean and spacious. There was a mini fridge and microwave in the room. The bathroom had Dove body wash, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers in the shower which I liked better than the tiny bottles since my hair is long and I need a lot of product! The bed was pretty comfy and I liked they had pillows labeled as firm and soft on the pillow cases so you could easily find your preference. If you opt out of daily cleanings/towel changes/sheet changes, you get a point bonus which we opted to do since we were only there a couple nights. The only downfall was noise carried a bit through the door and walls. I could hear kids running around in the hall and TVs on a couple of times, but it was never enough to prevent me from falling asleep or wake me too early so not a big deal. They have complimentary breakfast, but I'm a late sleeper and not a big breakfast eater so I never checked out the offerings. Coffee was available in the room. Overall, we had a good stay here at a good price and I'd book this hotel again when visiting the area. read more

The individual was very rude after I reported that the door to our room was open , the bed was visibly be. en sat on or She told me she had shower curtains and I said i want anothe room .layed in and the shower had no shower curtain. First we felt the room wasn't secured. We did not know why or who had been in there. I asked for another room which she did. Then my wife and I went back down for coffee , and my wife just told her again what we found. Evidently she was new cause then she accused my wife as being aggressive. Im 70 she's 73 we have stayed at IHG for 15 years and was never treated like this. Asked to talk to the manager and once on the phone she never ever responded to our claims or offered an apology. We reported this to corporate and are still waiting for a call of apology from Murphy. Never will stop in Murphy at all. read more

Turned away my mother - a local - escaping an abusive situation at home because they have a "no locals" policy and "didn't want trouble". Further, when I called to speak to the manager on duty, Susan, to understand this situation - Susan blamed my mother for not listening and extolled the virtues of her hotel and how they "help women" --- benefits my mother will never experience because she was embarrassed and shamed by Susan. My mother is about to turn 70 years old and nothing about her look or demeanor would raise alarm bells. She left her home tonight seeking safe haven and privacy - she found neither here. I understand policy. What I don't understand is cruelty which this location seems to have no problem dispensing. read more

Not everyone is so lucky. Upgraded to a suite at the holiday inn. A quick but not dirty 10-hour stay consisting of 3 waking hours and the rest with me staring at the back of my eyelids. The hotel was clean, the front desk efficient and the perks - free parking, Internet and breakfast. My room was large with a separate seating area, a bathroom that wasn't located directly at the foot of the bed, and a king size bed. There are few hotel options in the area, and this was a good choice. The only things that gave me pause -- finding the hotel at night through an un-picturesque drive behind a business, and pillows that were too soft, reminiscent of marshmallows once they are melted into s'mores. I asked to grab an apple from the complimentary breakfast set-up, and the staff was nice enough to give me several ziplock bags so I could grab breakfast to go. If only I could master eating hot grits while driving through the NC mountains. read more

Hotel receives good marks for room size, updated decor, location and parking. Receives absolute fails for house keeping staff and one front desk clerk. Our family will not stay here again and strongly recommend that you avoid staying here as well. Our family stayed at this hotel, in multiple rooms, for 3 nights to attend a local event in May 2019. Check in was expedient with no issues, spoke with Trish, the hotel manager, and the front desk clerk who were both helpful & pleasant. Hotel was quiet and all slept well. The next morning left the hotel at 10am. Saw maid as we were leaving the room and let her know we were departing and asked that she please clean the room, she was happy to oblige. Returned to hotel at 3pm to find room had not been cleaned and a note had been placed under door stating our do not disturb sign was observed. The DND was where we had left it at 11, on the inside of the door not out. Went to the front desk assuming there was just a misunderstanding and received a lecture from the front desk clerk about how rooms don't get cleaned when the DND sign is left on the door and that the cleaning staff gets off at 3. She was able to catch 2 of the cleaning staff team members before they left and they were sent to clean the room while we waited in the lobby. 15 minutes later we were told the room was ready and upon returning, the only thing that was done was the trash had been taken out and the bed was made, nothing else, but they were sure to take the $5 tip we left. No towels at all were removed or replaced (even though they were on the bathroom floor), no waters provided, sheets, blankets & pillows for the pullout were no where to be found even though a note was left with the tip on top of it asking for the pullout to be made. Again, returned to front desk and asked for towels and pullout setup kit so we could do it ourselves. No apologies were offered or explanation provided. I would suspect because the front desk clerk was embarrassed as she very well should be. So that was day 1. day 2? More of the same. I won't even bother going into detail. This hotel is a hot mess along with the front desk staff who seem to care less about customer service or just doing their job well. read more

Really nice place to stay and super clean only wish they had a hot tube but the pool is heated everyone here is great

My friend, Karen, and I stayed here last night. The room was large, the beds were nice and comfortable, the pillows were great! The free breakfast was much better than we anticipated, with a wider selection of breakfast items than you normally get with a "free" breakfast. The cinnamon rolls were larger than you'd usually get on a free breakfast, and they were warm and soft! The coffee was delicious- I even got one for the road! The inside pool was nice and since we swam during the dinner hours, we were the only ones in the pool. I'd definitely return when we visit Murphy again! read more

We stayed there for several nights in October 2010, and had a comfortable, clean room and very good service! We would stay there again.

We have been traveling from homestead through north South Carolina and Tennessee and Mississippi we stayed in 3 different holiday inn express we are wonderfully exhausted this chain made us so Impressed. Clean comfy reasonably priced great beds We met the nicest people on this trip and everyone at the holiday inn express was sweet caring and I can say the only place we will be staying on this trip for me in the future read more

I stayed here on April 3rd, and spent several hours in the room. I was about to turn it in for the night and notice a spider the size of a rat on the curtain (something I've only seen on National Geographic). I brought it to the attention of the night person who gave me another room and helped me clear my things out of the room. I was to stay a week but I checked out of the hotel the next day. The one star rating isn't necessarily for the spider but more so how IHG and the Hotel handles such negative experiences. I completed the post stay survey and completed a review for IHG website;however it was rejected. I was completely honest in my assessment but I guess they don't accept honest feedback if it's negative. Also, nobody from hotel management ever called to apologize or anything, after IHG stated somebody would contact me. In the end I did not sleep at all that night for fear the Hotel might be infested with these gigantic spiders. I didn't even request a refund for my stay but I doubt it would have been offered anyway. I'm just thankful I didn't go to sleep wake to a gigantic spider biting me. read more

We stayed at least 10 nights but not all at once. First off their breakfast is very good and seems could draw others to book her and over look the room. The hotel could use an overhaul. Tired rooms. Toilet rocked. Carpet needs to be renewed. Bed pillows lacked any substance. read more

Was working in Fanin GA for a week. Due to limited options I had to stay 30 minutes away in Murphy. Check-in was a little slow - However, I was greeted as a Platinum member and received bonus points. This property is unique for a HIE - very odd set-up. Not much to do in the area - you can drive downtown for a few restaurants and bars. Hotel was old and could use some updating - Beds were not comfy and cleanliness was iffy at best. Pretty basic - the lady at the front desk was a chain smoker so if you needed her check outside lol... Not too many options in the area, so this is probably your best bet. I was visiting friends in the area for the weekend, I am a Platinum IHG member and was happy to find a Holiday Inn Express in Murphy. The ladies at the front desk were extremely friendly and professional. The room was clean and comfortable. I don't eat breakfast but the morning coffee was very good. I would defiantly recommend staying at this location. read more

I hate staying in hotels for various reasons. This one was the exception to that rule. EVERYONE on staff was friendly and courteous, especially Jennifer, who went out of her way to accommodate my 80ish parents. The hotel site appears at first glance to be isolated as it is on top of a hill next to a few businesses. However, it was a secure and QUIET location. Beds were comfortable...rooms spacious, modern and clean. We were here for a family wedding for 3 nights with 3 rooms in our group and everyone had the same experience. read more

My wife and I can up for a long weekend to visit the new casino and just relax. Hotel was spotless, friendly staff, and close to most of the major attractions in the area. Only complaint are the sheets and comforter. They could use replacement. read more

My Girl and I were staying in their facility for three days and their nights, all the people that were working in the hotel were very pleasant to us and courteous. We had a personal attention from their manager (I guess to make sure all was going to be well-taken care, her name is Patricia) and we did not even know she was the manager of the hotel. The cleanliness was outstanding, the attention to details was second to none, and the breakfast was actually very good (better than what I was expecting by the way). The lady that cleaned and took care of the Breakfast area was very nice and attentive, her name was Kim. Our Room was always very clean and resupplied with all that we needed. The very rarely didn't have a smile on their faces. It did felt like our own five-star hotel. They made a very special experience our stay in Murphy, NC. The only thing we had a bad experienced with was not with the hotel, nor with the hotel personnel but instead with a wrong and overcharged on my account and that was in accordance with their headquarters (I called their main headquarters number to fix the problem) was a new system that was recently implemented. Also, there was an overcharge of additional $30.00 to our bill that we were not aware of but also was corrected. Stayed here Christmas holiday due to family house being very crowded. I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is newly renovated and really shows it. The lobby is basic but very neat and clean, the staff that we interacted with during the short stay was very friendly. The breakfast area was very clean and open with two gas fireplaces and 2 large flat screens. The breakfast provided is what you would expext from a continental breakfast, but tbey stayed on top of keeping it stocked and hot. The indoor heated pool is open year round and the workout room was also nice, but small. The room was very basic but clean, the king size bed we had was quite comfy. The bathroom was basic but clean. Only thing that made it a 4 out of 5 is the smell of the room was very musty when we entered. We adjusted the AC unit and sprayed some febreeze to eliminate the smell which worked. Overall a very nice stay. There was probably a total of 5 cars in the parking lot and it seemed like they seperated all of us to different parts of the hotel which was also a nice touch. I would definetly stay here again. Also a bonus is it is only 5 miles from new casino. read more
