We wanted to stretch out our gambling weekend so we stayed overnight at Harrah's in Murphy for the first time. I love the expansion of the casino - a variety of slots and table games. There is a nice food court with a variety of choices, Chinese, Tex-Mex, Fish and Chips, hot dogs, hamburgers, and sandwiches. There is a Starbucks with a seating area outside of the food court as well. There is also a Gordon Ramsay restaurant but the reviews were not stellar so we cancelled our reservation and donated that money to the casino The room had plus and minuses. The bathroom had a nice shower with good pressure. Oddly, the bed did not have a fitted sheet, I'm not sure what happened. Our bet was there was a rush to get it made or since it was a comp'd room maybe we weren't worthy of a fitted sheet . The check in staff were friendly and made the process quick! Very nice hotel that is fairly new and well kept. This is a casino and a hotel combo, but they do a terrific job keeping the two areas separated. It's a smoke free facility. There's valet and a garage, as well as some parking on an outside lot. There's also Bell Service. The landscaping is beautiful with the types of flowers and looks great. They obviously maintain this property well. The room itself is rather large and has all the things you would expect - mini fridge, coffee pot w/all the things, microwave, plenty of lighting, closet, drawers, and a sitting chair. The bed is very comfortable and there's even an extra blanket in the drawer if needed. There is an ice machine and vending in the hallway as well. The views from your window are absolutely amazing!! There's a large indoor pool with lounge chairs, as well as a small gym. The air conditioning is loud so if you are a light sleeper I would suggest earplugs. Perhaps it was just our room as we were in a room that had a large section between us and the room next to us (room 550). I am thinking this was where the units for that end of the floor were housed. Think a garbage truck who is in the middle of squishing all the trash it has picked up muffled by your windows on trash day AM. It was constant. This is a super secure place. Security is very friendly. I even saw them doing random floor checks where they just take a loop around the floor. This place also had a cool arcade, bowling alley, billiards combined recreational area. Very kid friendly. There is a Gordon Ramsey Kitchen on the 10th floor with amazing views (super pricey), a Starbucks (normal prices - not like other cafes in casinos where they inflate their pricing), and a food court with several options for fast food. They even have candy and other snacky things throughout the food court. The food court has ample seating. They are in the process of building a mid level restaurant called Brew Brothers which will be a nice addition since the o it sit down service is the expensive Ramsey restaurant. Spent New Year's Eve at Cherokee Valley River Casino, and had a lovely time. It was my first time at the casino and my stay was very comfortable. The room we had was very comfortable including the bed and the bathroom was good size. The property is quite beautiful and I can imagine in the summer. The views into the mountains is stunning. The casino was good size and had a large variety of games. They also had live music which was really nice and the set up for New Year's Eve was a lot of fun. They offer valet or self- Park and the staff was quite lovely. There's a huge outdoor pool that obviously wasn't open since we're in the middle of winter, but I'm anxious to go back in the summer and enjoy the outdoor activities. We ate at the food court both days and while the meals were simple. They were quite tasty if not a little expensive. Overall, it was a good visit and I can say I will be back. read more

Went to play some slots and was planning on eating at Rib Country first. I usually pass it on the way but came a slightly different way and realized I didn't pass it. The directions took me past it and not wanting to turn around I figured I'd just eat at the food court instead. They do have a couple of choices but I decided on Earl Of Sandwich. I'd eaten there before and it was good. This time however was not. In fact it was one of the worst sandwiches I've ever had. I got a Philly cheesesteak. I know it's not in Philly but geese. The steak and sandwich in general was dry. The peppers and onions were not caramelized and didn't even seem like they were cooked on a griddle. They weren't busy so don't know why or what happened. As I said, it was good the last time I ate there but it has been a long time. I guess if I eat in the food court again, I'll have to try either a different sandwich or a different food place all together because no way I can trust that particular sandwich again. This is not a criticism of the whole Harrah's casino or hotel which I only drive up there for the day and head back to Georgia so no reason to stay in the hotel, this is only a review of the food situation. read more

We stopped in on a whim as we were in the area looking for property. We'd heard about this casino from friends in the area. The facility is bright, shiny, and smoke free. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to walk through and be able to breathe. I typically play slots in Tampa and have a fair bit of luck sticking to them vs table games. We walked through the casino and noticed quite a few low $$ machines. I like to play $1 slots or higher. We strolled into the high limit lounge and I found a machine that is similar to the ones I like at The Seminole Hard Rock. I lost on my first slot machine so I moved to another one. This was the same machine but it was a $10 machine. Since we only planned to stop in for a short visit I decided to max out my bet and OMG I won $3k. I'm sure they were unhappy that I left promptly. We are an avid Caesar's gambling family so we have traveled to many casinos but Valley River is one of the best. Despite not having the Pool and other recreational activities as Cherokee, you will enjoy a smaller venue with good food. We stay here as each trip came with $300-$1000 of free play. We have won over 13 jackpot ranging from $1230-5,000 betting from .50 to $8.00 a slot pull. (Especially from 2am-5:30-am) The entire venue is gorgeous and perfect for midnight walks. People- we are in the Central area of NC so VR is a 5-hour drive. We noticed immediately that the majority of people are from TN and GA. They always mention they love the coziness and the 2-hour drive. This makes this location the most DIVERSE place for vacationers and enthusiasts. My wife and I were supposed to stay for one night (free) on December 22, but we had to cancel that day of due to the ice storm. I had spoken with an agent earlier that day who indicated I could get a courtesy cancellation, but we were still debating if we could risk it. The weather forecast worsened, so ultimately I decided to process the cancellation myself later online versus calling back in. They charged me a $50 cancellation fee two days later. When I called to dispute, the supervisor "Kat" was very dismissive and indicated I should have cancelled via the agent and not online if I wanted to avoid the charge. I pointed out that she could easily correct that now after the fact, but she chose not to do so. Seems silly to me to take that stance, but this will probably save me a lot of money in the long run as I will never frequent this casino or Caesars properties in the future. read more

My husband and I visited the Landings restaurant located in the Casino. First time and last time. It wasn't the food that prompted this negative review; my strip steak and asparagus was delicious. My husband's burger...also delicious. Server was fine. I left her a 20% cash twenty dollar tip on a $100.98 meal ( we had drinks). The problem was when I checked my bank account the next day, the restaurant receipt of $100.98 bucks had morphed into $120.98 bucks from my debit card. Someone (I do not know who) had pocketed $20.00 of my money. That's fraud, I thought, and spent an hour trying to talk to the manager there. Left a message explaining the situation. No call back, nothing. I had my receipt and gave details on the VM, but no luck. I have other things to do in my life, so I just chalked it up to lessons learned, and did not pursue it further. I know stealing $20.00 bucks is not the crime of the century, but it's the principle of the thing. My advice is this. This is my first time here at Valley River Casino. My friends comes here often for a day trip, sometimes spending a night. We decided that it would be fun to make it a day trip as it's only 1.5 hours drive versus 3.5 hours to Harrah's Cherokee Casino. I'm not a gambler, but it was fun day trip. The facility is nicely kept, it's clean and a lot of security details walking around. I joined my friend at the table that she's playing poker at. Not too long after I sat down, the server was already by to see if I wanted anything to drink. They're always around and the wait time for a drink doesn't take very long. These ladies are on top of it! I did forget to bring my rewards card, which can earn you points and rewards for future use. The only downside that I did not enjoy is the smoke. Wish they have a bit better ventilation since a lot of people are smoking. I could probably only spend a good 2 to 3 hours there before the smoke really start to bother me. It can also get quite warm in there as there are a lot of bodies!! Turn up the air a bit and ventilate the place. read more

Good visit. This location is a good bit smaller than the Harrah's Cherokee Casino in Bryson City, NC. I feel the machines are more giving here though. Check in lady was super nice and so was our room. Bed slept fantastic. Only complaint with our trip is that they need more help at the restaurants. Lines are long and the workers are very over worked. We visited on a Wednesday and for some reason a lot is closed on this day here? Moe's Grill was closed along with The Landing Cafe and bowling alley/arcade area. Avoid Wednesday's here and you will have a better trip! Good luck!! read more

This is a relatively new casino and it has a hotel attached to it. Like Cherokee it is pretty nice and when inside it is like a Las Vegas style casino. They have free covered parking. It has typical card games and lots of slot machines. The only thing that was a little disappointing is they have one small bar and a fast food like court and the food is OK but I would leave to eat somewhere else. There are some good restaurants and bars in Murphy so not a problem. This is better than the Cherokee Casino only because that casino, which is about another hour away, is the only show in town. When I was there last year, the town was dry and only one or two small restaurants. I give it a 3 as far as casinos go. read more

My only complaint was that they could have done a better job cleaning the tile in the walk in shower but other than that the room was nice. The selection of machines were fair & everyone wore mask. The casino offers nothing in the way of any good food, the rooms are sterile, the people are unfriendly...it is not worthy of anyone's time.
