I'll definitely have to make a return here because I didn't get the whole experience, which I bet is a good one. For context, this grill is set right on Pewaukee lake, with an awesome patio and great views. However, it was pouring rain for my visit so we didn't make it far past the entrance bar-seating. My friend and I hung out having a few drinks, served up by chatty and attentive bartenders. They were plenty busy keeping up with the crowd, including the packed dining area. I've been to this restaurant on several occasions! We've gotten the same server many times and her name is Tracy. She is FABULOUS! Always courteous, thorough and on top of things!! She keeps us coming back and, from now on, I will request her service if she is available. The food is also wonderful! The menu has lots to choices which I have enjoyed. I wish the salad selection, however, was better though. I love a good old fashioned wedge salad however, the one they offer is not a wedge salad. Taking a break on the long drive back from Green Bay to Des Moines, we were looking for a non-chain place not too far off the highway. We arrived around 2:30pm and the place was hopping! We were happy to snag one of the last open tables. The crowd skewed toward the older side and the live music reflected this, which was fine by us! View of the boats on Lake Pewaukee and the tables had umbrellas to shade from the sun. The menu offerings were somewhat different from what was listed on line. Hubby had the Rueben sandwich with tots. He appreciated that the dressing was for dipping and not on the sandwich. I had a make your own pizza which was ok but not great. (5/10 on my pizza scale but I am a self-proclaimed pizza snob from the East Coast!). Cracker thin crust that was burned on the edges but the pleasant surprise was it was but into slices and not tavern cut as most Wisconsin pizzas are! Very creative selection of cocktails but since we were looking at a long drive ahead of us, we did not indulge. Pleasant break but points off for bringing a new plastic cup and straw for each refill and the styrofoam container was overkill for the remaining slices, especially so close to the water. read more

Saw a Bloody Mary being mixed, straight tomato juice and vodka. Nothing else. Fortunately I wasn't the one who ordered that. So many things you could do to make a good Bloody Mary. We ordered the Cajun dry rub wings. I thought the wings were decent size, cooked good, but wow the Cajun seasoning was extremely salty. My wife couldn't eat more than one and I can still feel the salt in my mouth. A lot of potential but needs to change some things. read more

We came here for a sunset dinner. We started with the Tex Mex street corn which was a delicious spin on traditional chips and queso. All of our meals were good, nothing special. The true value of this place is the view of the lake and the environment. The service was also great. read more

I've been to Sunset Grill several times since it's a neat place right on the lake. Nice outdoor area with typical over priced bar food & drinks. Was there yesterday with friends to have lunch and since I haven't had the pizza before, decided to try it. HUGE MISTAKE!!! I ordered a 12" pizza with ground beef. The pizza came to our table cold, don't think it had any sauce on it and the most minimal sprinkle of cheese so they can say they include cheese. The "Ground Beef" was like sand...Really weird and disgusting!!! It takes a lot to say that something is the worst I've ever had, but this was the absolute worst pizza I've ever had!!!! $17 for a crappy 12' pizza?!?!?!?! My suggestion, go to the local grocery store and buy an Orv's pizza for $3...It's way better than what apparently qualifies for a pizza at Sunset Grill - WOW!!!!!!!!!! read more

Wow! It was a beautiful evening dining outside with 5 other friends on the lower patio. The umbrellas helped with the bright sun and the tables filled up quickly. All 6 of us loved our meals: Margaritas, Mojitos, Crispy Chicken Sandwich, BBQ Pulled Pork, Tator Tots, Crab Cakes, Chicken Salad, Patty Melt, and the most incredible $15 Steak Special! There was not a misstep with the food. But let me tell you the steak special was unexpectedly wonderful, and we still can't believe it was only $15 for the delicious steak, potatoes and veggies! Although we have lived in the area for a few years we had never been here and now we find ourselves looking forward to coming back. The place opens for lunch and I think we will try that next time. For all 6 of us the bill was $155 before the tip, which is very reasonable, especially since we had drinks also. I find nothing to complain about. Great place to stop for a drink and enjoy the lakeside view. Seating inside and out is plentiful and always a good vibe. What remains consistently disappointing is the quality of food. Our group of eight stopped in for a late-ish dinner after boating on the lake on a Thursday. Given it was nearly 7:30pm there were still people lingering so we had to wait about 20 mins for an outside table. No way were we sitting inside because that is why you come to a place like this. We did order a few drinks at the bar and they do have a pretty interesting selection of specialty drinks that are not too expensive. Once seated we were able to order quickly and the food was out in a jiffy given the crowd had thinned. The food was a disappointment - not a surprise for places in this type of location where it is all about the view. The cheese curds were OK but their version of a Muffuletta sandwich was weak and a bit dry. The chicken burrito was a bit more successful. When we were done eating our waitress was no where in sight and we had to send a coworker out to find her after a long wait. We had been here before for drinks and I think next time we will stick to the drinks. read more

Very nice spot that is right on the lake! The service was amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and she checked on us frequently. I would go there for drinks but would pass on the food apart from the wings (wings were great and they are 75 cents on Wednesday). The pizza was okay. It needed more sauce and to be hotter. The paninis also needed to be hotter. Again, nice place for drinks and some apps because the atmosphere is nice and it's right on lake but wouldn't eat a meal here. I'm always Waiting and waiting with no support. We get here on a Friday night @555pm. We go get our own drinks and wait. Seated @725 no server in sight to take the order until 745pm, food arrives at 820pm, so hungry. Done eating by 830pm. Just wow. They cant manage their volume. Leave by 840. It feels like insanity here between 430-830pm. I contemplated $0 tip. There was 1 server covering 10 tables on the lower level outside area. It was terrible. Wtf. Total bullshirt. Popular shore-side Grill brought six of us to try typical American grill food. Outside tables jammed at lunch with a very loud band that gave a few reason to dance. Place to see locals, but nothing creative about the food to pull you from a distance. The Lake District west of Milwaukee should be a draw for those who love the water, but know that eateries along Lake Michigan are all top-dollar places. Always busy starting late afternoon so can be very difficult to get a table. Starting at 5 they have a host/hostess available for outdoor seating but not for the inside or the deck. Very odd that part of the restaurant is an every man for himself situation with seating. Found several issues with the food. The poppers sounded interesting as they are fried in egg roll wrappers. They arrived soggy and the bacon inside was way undercooked. Why wouldn't you use cooked bacon?? The server was kind enough to remove from our bill. My next visit I ordered the chimichanga. The description seemed like lettuce was part of the filling so I ordered without lettuce just to be safe. It arrived and yes, the chimichanga was deep fried with lettuce INSIDE! Why on earth????? It really would have been delicious without the hot soggy deep fried lettuce. The views are wonderful and the remodel is great as is the variety on the menu but the food just always falls short. I had a fun time at the Sunset Grill in Pewaukee regardless of the rainy day and no lake activities. While the inside seating was full I was a bit hesitant to sit outside due to the impending rain but the umbrellas on each table provided ample protection and the rain didn't seem to bother the servers. In addition the band played regardless of the drizzle as well. Had to wait a little to long after being seated for a server to get to us but after that they were very attentive. Unfortunately they were out of the ingredients to make our first 2 drink choices, but I have to tell you our third choice was the sweet heated margarita and it was delicious both sweet and hot. As I'm still new to the area I had only tried cheese curds once at another restaurant and I failed to see what all the hype was about but decided to try them again here and they were outstanding! I can't say enough about food both the potato skins and the patty melt were both full of flavor and enjoyable. I'm looking forward to coming back on a sunny day with friends. read more

I was not happy but they said they would give us the next table and comp'd drinks. we were seated 10 minutes later. after we were seated we waited 20 minutes until someone noticed we hadn't been seen. seems as though they forgot to reassign a server as the one who committed the first offense did not/wasn't going to serve us. The views and atmosphere are what make the restaurant! They have a large patio space and plenty of drinks to choose from. The only issue is there aren't many things we love on the menu, the food never comes out amazing if that's what your priority is.
