This was my second time here. We came about this same time last year for my birthday dinner with another couple. There were four of us. Last year was an easy 5-star experience. This visit was a bit disappointing. Food: We started with a couple of the Sangria specials, a beer, and I ordered one of their signature cocktails, the Dolce Old Fashioned. The sangrias that arrived weren't actually the ones we had ordered. Our server caught the mistake as she brought them to the table and offered to have the correct ones made or let us keep these at no charge. Since they were delicious, we happily kept them. My Dolce Old Fashioned was excellent. We skipped appetizers because we wanted to save room for dessert. After all, it was my birthday dinner. We ordered two pizzas, the pork chops, and I chose the Duck Leg Confit. The timing of the entrées was awkward. It felt more like a tapas dinner than a restaurant serving a table together. My duck arrived first, then we waited. Next came the pork chops, followed by another wait. Finally, about ten minutes after the first plate arrived, the two pizzas were served. It's much more enjoyable when everyone can start eating together. Everyone really enjoyed their meals, with one exception: my duck. It was drier and tougher than I had expected. The braised cabbage and roasted potatoes that accompanied it were both very good. Given how the evening had already gone, I didn't make an issue of it, but I did make a mental note not to order that dish again. We finished with several desserts, including the Almond Cake and the Warm Date Cake. Both were excellent and provided a nice ending to an otherwise uneven meal. Service: The service throughout the evening was good. We were seated right away, and our server, Nicole, greeted us promptly, got us settled in, and answered our questions about the menu and nightly specials. Unfortunately, she found herself apologizing several times during the meal. First for the incorrect drinks, and later for the staggered arrival of the entrées. None of those issues seemed to be her fault, and she handled everything professionally and with a great attitude. Atmosphere: The restaurant is attractive and thoughtfully laid out, with several different seating areas. Our table of four was in a smaller section they refer to as the lounge. The air conditioning kept the room comfortable, and the noise level made conversation easy. I'm not sure whether the food quality and timing issues were just the result of an off night or something more representative. It does make me pause before making another reservation. We had a great date night at The Inn! From the moment we sat down, the vibe was chill and welcoming - perfect for a relaxed night out. We started with the Arugula Radicchio Salad (perfectly dressed!) and a cup of Potato Leek Soup, then shared the Duck Leg Confit (it was the best duck we've had in awhile, and braised cabbage! those duck fat roast potatoes!) and the Beef Filet with potato gratin (yum!!), watercress and red wine jus. Every dish had a nice wood-fired flavor. Excellent quality across the board, and the prices felt very reasonable for what you're getting. Our server was excellent - attentive, knowledgeable, friendly without hovering. The support staff kept our waters filled and dishes cleared seamlessly. We appreciated the NA beer, wine, and cocktail options. I had a modified French 75 and loved it - it's nice to have thoughtful non-alcoholic choices. Someday I'd love to grab seats at the counter in front of the kitchen to watch the action. We will be back! read more

We went to the Hartland Inn tonight and had an exceptional experience. The service was truly five-star from start to finish. The food exceeded our expectations, and dessert absolutely stole the show. When we arrived, I asked the bartender for a wine recommendation and mentioned that I enjoy Pinot Noirs. He suggested a fantastic bottle that we loved so much we ended up ordering two and it was very reasonably priced. He could've done the server upsell on me with the $120 bottle right below it, but he knew a good tasting bottle of wine for a good value. To start, we split the large beet salad, which was perfectly dressed and loaded with beets and goat cheese and it was more than enough for two people. We also shared the Burrata pizza and asked them to add fresh arugula on top after it was out of the oven. It was unbelievably good. For dessert, we had the Warm Date Cake with bourbon caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. If you've ever had sticky toffee pudding in England, or even if you haven't, it tasted remarkably similar. Rich, warm, creamy, with just a slight crunch that made it completely indulgent. What a gem in Hartland! Beautiful restaurant with multiple seating areas, the ambiance was as if a French cafe and a library were combined. Very clean and inviting. We were greeted by a friendly hostess upon walking in who was more than accommodating to get us a table without a reservation, I believe she was the owner (Maddie) while her husband was preparing food in the kitchen. These two know what they are doing and I would expect this restaurant to be a staple in Hartland for years to come. Food is on point, every thing is tasty. Many dishes are shareable with a good selection of main entrees to choose from. Always start with the fries! They come out hot and crispy with a garlic aioli. Five onion dip is spectacular, served with a light, crispy focaccia bread that you will be thinking about for days. They do offer a gluten free bread with this dish and there is plenty to share. Arugula salad was fresh and tasty. Topped with a lightly shredded parmesan, and crispy capers make it a nice add of greens to our meal. Pictured is a shareable size. Seafood crudo/ceviche was a special the night we were there, it was served with bread crisps. Light and fresh. The flourless chocolate cake was topped with fresh whipped cream. It had more of a chocolate pudding texture which I loved. Very different from the often forgettable conventional fudge-like brownie that most restaurants pass off as flourless cake. This is a great dessert option for gluten-free customers that want to enjoy dessert and we would get this again. Visited for the first time to attend their Bubbles & Bites event and it was awesome! They have soooo many great wines - we got to sample 7 of them. This was our second time here and both times we had a great experience! The Inn is beautiful decorated, has great ambiance, and wonderfully kind staff (especially the bartenders)! Both times we have been have been weekdays so we sit at a table in the bar area. Like most places, the cost of cocktails has increased, but at least they make them right! We had our usual, Gin Martinis For the food, you absolutely need to get the tallow fries... my goodness are they delicious! We also got a beet salad, some scallops, and the sopressata pizza which were all fantastic. The only reason for the 4 star rating is the cost. Pizza for $25 (while delicious) is a little high! Absolutely loved this place. From the moment I walked in, the energy was warm, inviting, and effortlessly cool-the kind of spot you instantly want to linger in. The food was exceptional. Every dish was thoughtful, beautifully executed, and full of flavor - you can tell there's real talent and intention coming out of the kitchen. It's rare to find a restaurant that nails both creativity and comfort this well. One of the owners came over to greet us which was the cherry on top to my experience. She was lovely. First time to the new establishment. Very well appointed dining and bar area. Nice job on the renovation!! Service was very attentive and knowledgeable. Server kept reminding us that their portions were to share, it became a running joke as she kept informing us of this portion sharing. Food: pizza was very good, the bolognese was extraordinary. Very good selection of desserts. Filet is over priced and we asked for medium rare and it was presented as raw to rare (seared) and we had to send back to medium rare. This place is unbelievable, and it seems all of Lake Country already knows it because I can't seem to snag a pair of seats at the bar any day of the week. The decor inside is stunning. I would love to know whom the owners hired to design the interior, because this restaurant is GORGEOUS inside. We have had nothing but exceptional service here, too, with a well staffed bar and friendly servers. The star of the show here, though, is the food. This isn't political, don't come at me, but I'm a big fan of beef tallow and I don't eat seed oils. The kitchen here is 100% seed oil-free, and I'm ecstatic about it. Their tallow fries are the most delicious French fries I've ever eaten anywhere in my life. I also love their mussel toast, and steak tartare is excellent. If you remember one thing from this review though, let it be this: order two pieces of date cake, one for dessert tonight and one to eat with your coffee in the morning. It's the most absurdly delicious dessert, with crispy edges akin to a brownie, and the most sumptuous sponge with the perfectly subtle smokiness of a whiskey caramel sauce, tempered by smooth vanilla ice cream or gelato or whatever. Good lord is it delicious. Wife and I often joke about lake country reviewed restaurants having an extra star because the reviewers grade on a curve, since restaurants in the area tend to be subpar compared to downtown Milwaukee, Walker's Point, and Bay View. But this place isn't "Lake Country good," it's Milwaukee good. A restaurant of this caliber would thrive anywhere. One complaint: The bar doesn't stock a wide selection of liquors. If you have a standard cocktail you like, you might find that you can't get it here. The cocktail menu is decent, but very small, and they're not exactly catering to a wide range of tastes. I should be able to come to a restaurant as nice as this and confidently order a Negroni or a Sazerac, or get a decent single malt for after dinner. I do hope they expand their offerings. Place is cute inside but incredibly overpriced for the food. $30 for a small pizza? A salad? If you're going to charge $40+ for an entree, it better be edible. We had to send back a dish for the meat being too hard. Wanted to love it, the restaurant itself is really nicely decorated and the staff was nice too. Another lake country disappointing Very Overpriced restaurant, pizza way overpriced and nothing special, entrees, appetizers and drinks definitely overpriced, $9 for a pickle plate, half roasted chicken $35, can get a rotisserie chicken from Costco that is better, halibut fish dinner $48, Culver's has a better fish fry. Place was better as a parking lot, service and decor was just ok, big deal you have an open kitchen, will not be back. Sticking with Marty's, Kurt's, Fishbones and small bars and restaurants in the area. I give them a half star at best!! read more

Mother's Day brunch was fantastic! It has been completely renovated and they have decorated it with a hip elegant vibe. And the menu- They had it all! Each table had to yell to each other to be heard so the overall sound level was so so bad. Service was ok; very nice but she had to lean in to talk to us because it was so loud and it was pretty busy so we had to ask for water. Mixed reviews on the food. Pizza was tasty, basil pesto pasta was delicious but needed a tiny more salt. Fries were crispy and nice. Was expecting more flavor from the olives but the bee pollen was interesting. The ambience at the Inn is so very nice. They've really done a nice job as it has a cozy, classy look & feel to it. But I would say that is the best thing going for The Inn. They offer a very pricy menu. Drinks are overpriced as well. My husband had 2 cokes - $14! We shared the smoked fish dip with our 2 friends and we all liked the flavor. However, the potato chips they served with it didn't hold up well to the dip. They kept breaking. Some thin crackers or ruffle type chips would have been a better choice. Our total bill was over $180 for 2 pizzas, 2 salads (the endive and blue cheese salad was too small for $16) 2 cokes, a glass of wine and one old fashioned. The pizza was tasty but nothing extra special. And the crust in the middle was floppy. We like crispy crust. Also the table next to the window in the bar is extremely cold. Don't sit there in winter. I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon. read more
