OMG!! FINALLY!!! I have stopped by this donut shop several dozen times or more throughout the years, at various hours of the day. I use to meet up with some friends at the Starbucks on the corner and my parents use to live in the neighborhood, so I frequented the area. But every time I stopped by, they were closed!! No exaggeration! I have come early in the morning, I have come on different days of the week, I have stopped through on the weekends, I have even passed by afternoon and early evenings and they have always been closed. I was beginning to think that this shop was just a ruse! Finally, one day, in November of 2020, I finally caught them open late afternoon. I was in shock! I wasn't even craving a doughnut, but I felt I had to stop in and get one because the place was actually open! I had been trying to to check out this doughnut shop for over a couple of years!! I went in, I ordered a Bavarian Cream filled chocolate doughnut. I didn't even wait to eat it. I stood there after purchasing it and took a bite. It was sooooo yummy!! It was soft, fluffy, creamy and fresh tasting, even though it was already after 3:00pm. I got so excited that I decided I had to take a few home with me. I then picked up an Apple Fritter, a Bear Claw, and a Glazed Blueberry to go. This shop was a little more on the pricier side than my regular doughnut shop in Vallejo, but well worth the few extra coins. I had to remove one star for all the problems I had with not being able to find them open when their store hours clearer showed that they were suppose to be open. read more

First and foremost, I'm not gonna say that I'm a some kind of donut connoisseur or anything but if I happen to find myself in a position to buy a ton of donuts I would chose this place over any other donut shop in the area (including Vacaville)! I second everyone's testimonial about the great service here. The ladies are extremely nice and their ice cream is super delicious. I used to visit this place on occasion ever since I moved to Suisun City but since I recently relocated I still haven't chosen any other donut shops to get these little "fat pills." The donuts are always fresh and seems to keep the soft consistency all throughout the day. I had to buy three dozen donuts a while back for my shift and since we only had a small amount of time to eat them, we had to stash them for a few hours till our next break. First time I went, the doughnuts were good and that's all I can say. From my visit, it seemed like they are disproportionately catering to "regulars" because I went into the shop but the customer AFTER me got serviced along with a lengthy personal conversation. There were 3 associates and I was brushed off by all, not even a greeting. The donuts were good but, as they only had glazed donuts when we arrived after church, we only got a few. My husband had the ham and cheese croissant and he said it was made perfectly. Donuts were OK, nothing great. However caught one of the employee taking a nap lol which would've been ok if I hadn't had such awful service. "Sunset Donuts" has been in my life for at leassssst 12 years so when I see this place is legit, you better believe it. The old fashion donuts here; plain, chocolate, or maple are AMAZING!!!!!! Fresh, soft, moist, with the most perfect, most delectable amount of C-R-U-N-C-H!!! Be careful eating these in the car, you'll drop crumbs all over. Outside of the donuts, "Sunset" has other treats as well....you can indulge in a little ice cream or have one of their custom coffee blended beverages. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but all of the cake donuts are from Pillsbury mix. Okay, so obviously they aren't the only ones doing this. In fact, biting into one of these will remind you of many other donuts you've had in Ma & Pop donut shops far and wide. However, the last few times we've rolled through here in the last year the donuts have been progressively more oily tasting. Today, they were really pushing the boundary of what I consider edible. All I got were a plain donut and a custard filled maple donut. Both of them were oily and just okay. The women who work here are super nice, but the parking lot SUCKS and (I'm not kidding) nine times out of ten there will be either A) someone wanting you to sign something B) a crazy person or C) someone puffing away on a cigarette right outside the shop door. Yuck. This place is affordable though and I noticed today that they sell bread pudding for $1.40 a slice. Looked good, but maybe next time. I sure hope that isn't somehow oily too. read more

I've been to this spot maybe only twice in the last couple years. I guess I just forget that it's so close to my house! It's literally 4 minutes away from my house. Friendly staff and the place smells delicious from the fresh donuts. Came here with my girlfriend and we each got a donut. It was really good. I ate a chocolate bar and a normal chocolate and it was absolutely nice and fluffy with a nice sweetness. This little gem deserves way more reviews than this.. I've been coming to this donut shop for as long as I can remember. The owners of this shop has stayed the same the whole time and they are the mostly friendly, hardworking, humblest business owners you will meet. You can tell they love what they do. The earliest they open is about 4 AM is perfect for those who have to make their extremely early morning commute to the city or sacramento, like my dad. They usually close at sundown (as listed in their hours on the window) Its a small little shop and not in the best part of the plaza. It can sometimes have a line going around the shop and out the door in the AM but it's extremely worth it to wait. Every donut is melt in your mouth amazing. I guess I can just talk about my favorites.. The cinnamon twists/rolls are just perfect. These LITERALLY melt in your mouth and aren't overwhelmingly sweet with glaze or overly spiced with cinnamon. The buttermilk roll. God made these things, I swear it. Each bite is rich and moist and you want more by the time you're done with it. Apple fritters! My dad's favorite also. The right amount of crisp and it's a huge fritter. The best part of this place is the prices. For an overflowing box of amazing quality donuts, I purchased it today under $10. I don't expect out of this world for donuts, because donuts are pretty basic. But these donuts were not good at all. The regular chocolate and glazed donuts were super airy. You take a bite into the donuts and nothing but air holes inside. Old fashion donuts were stale. Like I said, I don't expect to be impressed by donuts, but this place really misses the mark. I started coming here nearly 10 years ago and still stop by when I have to catch a bus out of Suisun City. The girls who work here are super friendly so no complaints there and the donuts are reasonably priced. I would agree that if you sleep in the selection can be a pretty small. Last time I visited I got a chai latte which was too sweet for me but still less expensive than Starbucks. Still for chai I think I prefer Starbucks. This small, quaint, and unassuming donut shop is a real charmer. I've lived in the area for over ten years and have frequented Sunset Donut throughout those ten years. The family running the place is always cheery and talkative - from the earliest hours to the late evening. Their presence really make this place special. It is actually more than just a donut shop, as it also serves ice cream and shakes. I'm out the door usually by 5am so having an extensive selection of freshly baked donuts makes my commute that much more tolerable. These are no frills donuts, so if you're looking for some artisan creation this is not for you. But if you want some damn tasty donuts at a good price then look no further. You really can't go wrong with cheap and tasty! This is a real mom and pop local shop with a long history in the area. That they've stayed in business for so long is a testament to their quality.
