A kitschy little gem with amazing amenities and well-kept rooms! My husband and I stayed for a long weekend in Key Largo and rather than booking a large, fancy resort he wanted to relive the fun of his family vacations renting a little beach cottage. I'm so glad we went this direction! Sunset Cove is so unique and charming - from the moment you drive in you're greeted by a large, vintage sign with a swan boat. So you know the kitsch is coming! The grounds have a variety of fun animal lawn decor - my husband and I had so much fun trying to see them all, it felt like we discovered a new hidden one each day of our stay. At night, they're lit up with fun colors - feels like you're coming home to a mini-theme park! Aside from the fun lawn decor, the facilities are truly impressive - a little private beach just steps away from any cottage booked, a little social area with a large tv, a super cool tiki hut in front of the office that has breakfast bites available in the morning. The private beach especially was really appreciated - it may have actually been one of the best on the island from the ones we ventured out to. A nice little sandy bar, plenty of beach chairs, and a few large tiki huts that shield you very well from any unexpected rain. We stayed in the Bayview cottage, which was one of the closest to the private beach and had a little fridge and counter area for prepping food. Also, I really loved the little vanity with a mirror and ledge in the living space that came in handy for getting ready while the bathroom was occupied. I was so impressed with the cleanliness and maintenance of the rooms. Although the location and grounds are a bit rustic, the rooms are kept very clean and updated. Even small things like the paint on the walls and decor - it seems almost like it was painted and decorated yesterday! Everything is kept up. Lastly, I really appreciated that the office highlights the history of the property and gives a little story about Sunset Cove. I really loved learning that the property once was a manatee sanctuary. I think this history would also be great to feature in their website. Before we left, we had to get a photo in the swan boat at the main entrance and Julissa from the front desk was so kind to come take multiple photos for us even though it was super hot out. For an impromptu visit to Key Largo, Sunset Cove turned out to be the best place we could have ever picked to stay! First, this is a dog-friendly resort. We were informed at check-in that not only are certain cottages dog-friendly, but dogs are also welcome at all of the amenities: private beach, the dock, kayaks, paddle boards, tiki huts, everywhere! As said however, only certain cottages are pet friendly, so keep an eye on that when booking. Second, we had our own little private cottage, fully equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, beautiful television, and our own parking spot. We stayed in Cottage #4, which is adjoined with Cottage #5 - we could not hear our neighbors! It was very private and very cozy. Our cottage was a less than 1 minute walk to the beach. They have chairs, benches, and tables set up along the beach, first come first serve. The water is beautiful and clear. The water starts out sandy (perfect for kids and pets!) and then turns into a beautiful ecosystem of fish, coral, and sea grass (perfect for snorkeling!). Complimentary bicycles, kayaks, and paddle boards are also available first come, first serve. They have life jackets available, too. We checked-out the paddle boards and took our puppy out for her first experience. It was so fun! Off the dock, you can park your boat (I believe there may be an additional fee) - you can also fish off the dock; one visitor caught a handful of mangrove snapper. While we didn't catch anything, we saw plenty of fish just below (some at least a foot long!) This resort is also very close to restaurants, shopping, and more (within walking distance!). The private beach actually connects to a beautiful restaurant next door; however, beware! That restaurant is not dog friendly :( Overall, we fell in love with Sunset Cove and cannot wait to come back for another trip! Highly recommend! read more

Stayed here for a family trip and we had a wonderful time. If you're looking for a modern, super snazzy location this isn't exactly it. It is though very quaint, cozy, and quiet and great for families! Our rooms were clean upon arrival and everything worked well. Housekeeping was great. I did notice a few towels with hair on it but nothing too crazy. My first con was the filter of the a/c. It needed to be changed and I could see the dust in the filter. This made it a little hard to breathe at night because of my allergies. However, our room was overall, cozy. Staff were friendly and helpful. The older gentleman was really nice and even followed up with me regarding my final payment. The second and last con was the parking situation for additional vehicles in your party. There were spaces on the property for which they charged us to park (as advertised!) but in the grand scheme of things it still seems like a silly fee for guests. read more

I had a negative experience here over the summer and was encouraged to reach out to the GM about my concern. Although I would have preferred for them to reach out to me considering the nature of the issue and the fact that they have my information from staying here before, and she was not even apologetic when I finally called while she was actually there. She reluctantly offered me 15% off my next stay. This was only a few days ago, and when I called today, I was greeted by a smart aleck who refused to honor his own GM's word even though he was there when I repeatedly called to share my experience. He claimed it was because they are already doing a promotion, but the GM said nothing of this when I spoke to her just this week! Unfortunately, even when they are (kind of!) trying to make things right, they come off as rude. This is not a 'Florida Keys' thing. No other places in the Keys treat you like this--not even the 2-star places. Please avoid! read more

Cute and kitschy and clean. Stayed in a kitchenette cottage and was charmed by the dinosaurs and other animals on display. Annie at the front was awesome and friendly. Went kayaking. They also have SUPs. The waterfront is pretty and there hammocks and ditto areas throughout as well as a cozy table and chaos in front of the cottage. Slightly less expensive than the "resorts" but definitely a taste of what the Keys were like 20 years ago. This is our second time staying here and it was just as great if not better than the first time we were there. The sign out front says "special rates", we did in fact get a pretty hefty discount. We thought it was probably because there was not many people around, we were the only ones there for the first couple hours but then the place did fill in pretty quickly. We had a cute room down by the water with such a beautiful view. There are 2 restaurants very close and they had live entertainment So we benefitted from that without having to go to the restaurant, It ended early enough so that it wasn't playing late and didn't disturb us at bedtime. Inside the cottage everything was spic & span clean, very organized with dishes, a microwave, coffee pot, toaster and a larger than apartment size fridge. The room was small but big enough for the two of us. The bed was comfortable although it made noise just as we sat on it and again turning over in bed. The noisy bed was the only complaint we had. The woman at the front desk , Jusella was very nice and accommodating. They offer kayaks but we didn't get a chance to use them. I highly recommend this adorable spot in paradise. read more

This place it is pet friendly but it is not. They have no weight limit or breed limit. I have had 2 terrible experiences. The first I thought maybe it was an misunderstanding but no today changed my mind. My dog is 70 ponds and is a very happy vocal dog. She loves to swim and bark and the waves. First time somebody complained my dog was aggressive because she was barking at the water while on a leash. I was told then I had to stay in my room the rest of the night. Today I came back 2 years later after my fathers passing. My son just moved away from home so me and my bestie came down here for some R&R. Some Karen complained because my large dog was barking and having a good time in the water! So it's a great place if you don't have a pet and especially not a large dog that is vocal when she/he is happy. Since my dog is a pit mix no one asked me my side. The are prejudiced if my out mix. Another incredible experience at our favorite vacation spot in the Keys! The owners, the general manager Robin, front desk Amanda, and the entire staff are always gracious and attentive. The cottages are well maintained: AC, TV, internet are all perfect. My 4 year old daughter demands we go there; the little beach right on the property is perfect for a swim and the dock is available for fishing. Restaurants are all in walking distance... just an ideal vacation spot for the family. Also note that on this trip, my daughter met fellow guests from Germany and Holland and had the best time meeting these other kids from Europe showing them how to play the "Ring Toss" in the central located tiki hut. Not a hotel; MUCH better as it provides a compete Keys experience as opposed to some boring, sanitized corporate building .... Highly recommended! read more

Never stayed here, but also never will. We had to cancel our trip to the Keys in July due to the COVID pandemic and being from the hardest hit state in the country, traveling is out of the question. Despite these circumstances this establishment chose greed and decided to keep $50 from our deposit simply because they are opening June 1st. That is why I am choosing to rate them 1 Star. They are poor business owners and have no clue about keeping customers happy and coming back. Really sad because we thought this type of place would have a heart and give us a break since NYC was hit so hard. So for $50 they lost us as customers and of course the people we know who travel to the Keys. read more

This place could be nice. But the employees here suck. I mean really suck. Came here for a birthday. We called prior to let know we would be having a get together. And the people on the phone seemed great and accommodating. We rented 3 rooms. When we arrived we received 2 rooms at check in. And then waited an hour and a half for our third room. Later that evening 4 other people arrived(2 cars) and soon as they got the kid working the front desk came outside to let them know they weren't allowed to be on the property since they weren't guest. Moving on to the next morning. Me t working we head to the beach at 11. We check out of 1 room. But family kept two rooms. I asked if I could keep my car there and he told me sure, I would just have to pay $20 to park as a guest. While we are on the beach the same kid from the office to let let me know we weren't allowed to be there since we checked out. I asked why would we have to leave if I just payed to park. And I was told the $20 I payed was only for my car to stay. But not me and my wife. The kid was very rude and condescending. Outside of our issues with the front desk many other guest were complaining the whole time how bad the front desk people were. Felt more like a jail than a hotel. The rooms. Lol they also suck. With the abundance of nice places to stay in the area I would def consider staying elsewhere. A couple weeks before staying here we stayed at drift hotel. Same price yet a lot nicer. Staff was great, the FREE KAYAKS AND BIKES were awesome. They even let us stay after we checked out to enjoy the beach and kayaks for a few hours. read more

A hidden gem. We wanted a quick getaway and The Sunset Cove delivered that for us. We originally booked for only one night but enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night. The rooms were immaculate. Staff were friendly and helpful. I booked through Expedia and received a great rate. The manager honored the same rate for the second night. We stayed in the Sand Dollar which sits by the water but is on the smaller side. We also stayed in the Bayview which was perfect. It also had a little more privacy. I took my 2 boys here for spring break 2022, and we all had the time of our lives! The location is right off the 1 but yet still feels so peaceful with all the lush landscaping and being right on the water. I needed to make a booking change after I had already reserved our stay and Gisela was more than accommodating. When we got there to check in, she was so nice and welcoming and gave us coupons and guide books to the Keys. We got to enjoy the kayaks and paddleboards and my son snorkled in the little beach at the resort pretty much all day every day. This is not an ultra posh fancy resort, but it IS comfy, adorable, and clean. This was the best family vacation we have had in a long time and I loved this little gem of a place. The have a fantastic beach and free use of kayaks and paddle boards. From the highway, it looks like an old motel, but once you pull in the driveway, you can sense that plenty of effort was done to make the place look nice.  And the rooms, which appear to have been old cottages that were recently refurbished, also reflect this. They had paddle boards and kayaks on the bay which could be used free of charge. Breakfast was very minimal, but there was plenty of efficient and friendly service from the front desk. read more

Cute resort. Nice area to sit on while watching the sunset. We stayed in Den Divers 2 cabin. Don't stay in that one unless you don't mind a super small shower. The bathroom situation is super odd - a large bathroom bathroom with a sink, toilet and a large cabinet then a tiny bathroom with a shower only big enough to stand still and another sink/ plus you have a high step up into the bathroom. If you are short ( I'm 5'2"), the shower hits you in the face and shower snd you can't adjust it. The whole bathroom situation needs revamped. This is the reason for a 3 instead of higher. I would stay again but not in that one. read more

We've just completed 5 days at Sunset Beach Cove resort and what a great time had by all. We rented three cabins, used the Boat ramp, dock, Tiki facility for a Baby shower. The beach is nice with shade Tiki's, chairs, etc. Sunsets are beautiful. Many things to like. However the employees working there are "Golden" Robin at the front desk is helpful, professional. Nathan keeps this place pristine. You would think there are many groundskeepers and maintenance people but it's just him. Lastly, Giselle, the manager was amazing. This vacation was 3 mos. in the making and she walked us through this process over time working with myself and two other sons of mine as well. Love her. Will go back many times going forward not just for the facility but the AMAZING crew who made our stay GREAT...Thank you guys. read more

My husband and I got married on Saturday, February 17,2018 in Homestead/Redlands Florida. We decided that we wanted to make a weekend of it and stay in Key Largo. My family friends and I called up Sunset Cove and we spoke with Robin and Lelani . We booked several cottages. Robin and Lelani where extremely friendly patient and accommodating to all of us. All the cottages and the grounds were extremely clean. We all loved the use of the complimentry kayaks and bicycles. Everyone enjoyed the complementary coffee and pastries in the morning as well. This resort is kid friendly,Pet friendly and family oriented. The resort is also within walking distance to restaurants bars and a few stores. The sunsets are beyond amazing . My family and I enjoyed walking out on the docks on the bay looking at the sunsets and jumping off the dock into the wate. We even got to see some dolphins. This was our first time staying here and we loved it! Our friends recommended it, so we arranged a trip for the 4th and met our friends there. It's a great location, in the heart of Key Largo. You can walk to a lot of eating establishments, dive shops and drug stores. The room we had was very nice and clean. If I had a complaint with the room, it would be no counter space in the bathroom and shower. We chose this place because we could bring our dogs. Not everyone seemed to pick up their dog waste, which was frustrating, but not this establishments fault. Just watch if you're walking around, even if you don't have dogs. There's a small beach area and dock. They also have kayaks and paddle boards, which we didn't get a chance to try out. If you have a boat, you can dock it here. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. You also get a few discount cards for some of the local eating establishments. read more

We thought we'd head south to avoid Dorian and found this resort worked for us. Nice CBC cottages in case Dorian headed south. The price was good compared to the Atlantic side which thinks they're West Palm. Nice beach, good coffee in the morning, and a restaurant next door. We had a service dog with us and there were a lot of dogs as well. Don't bring your cat. read more

The only reason I'm giving this place one star is because I can't leave a zero on this app. This "resort" is more like a detention center. I came with my family for the 10 year celebration of life for the passing of my sister in law and we rented 4 rooms looking forward for a nice and relaxing weekend surrounded by family. My mother in law checked in a day earlier with her sons and they couldn't find his reservation so he had to get a hotel down the road. Even after telling the front desk lady this, she continued to call my mother in laws room over the length of her stay (4 days) to make sure he wasn't there and to tell her he wasn't allowed in the resort because he wasn't a guest. She did the same to every single person who checked in who was part of our party. Every single time we passed the office to walk towards the water, we were questioned and harassed. Their excuse was COVID but not once single person was wearing a mask in the entire resort so that was complete bs. Again, the rudest front desk staff lady. She was more like a robo cop than a helpful employee. You could not even pull up your vehicle to unload your things without her coming over to complain and threaten us about getting towed. Lady we just want to unload our things, we promise we're not parking here! Extremely passive aggressive and unlike other resorts, would not let us enjoy the water after check out for a few hours while we waited for everyone else to finish packing although our family booked an extra night because we weren't "guests" anymore. If you plan to celebrate anything and relax comfortably, this is not the place. They will call you several times a day to make sure you don't have any extra person in your room, leave harassing messages, ask to come to the office and you also aren't allowed to have any guests meet you if they would like. Oh and if you have a dog, be ready to leave a $100 deposit which is not on their page. They blamed most things on COVID but Again didn't see not one mask worn at all by any guest the whole time I was there. Also if your room fits 6, you can't register more than 2 cars to a room and after registering one vehicle the second is 20 bucks a night. Total rip off after the amount you spend a night for a room. We befriended other guests while on our stay and asked about their experience, and there weren't even questioned or bothered once. Racist? Don't want to think so but that's how we felt after the experience they gave us. read more
