We arrived around five, were seated promptly, and ordered drinks and food while watching the planes fly by. The drinks came out quickly, though they weren't very strong. The food, however, was really good. We had the coconut shrimp and the fried wings and both were delicious and hit the spot. This is a great option if you want a quick, affordable meal. Burger was well-done and charred, only had choice of American Cheese and Swiss cheese. All the condiments were included. The fries were good. The coconut shrimp was cold and very crispy the sauce that went with it was rather spicy. The service was pretty fast and the ambience was fabulous. What a wonderful place to spend a few hours watching the planes land and staring at the ocean. This place can get really crowded so if that is not your thing then I recommend checking the cruise ship schedule and plan accordingly as this is one of the areas they are bussed to. First and foremost you cannot beat the view, it is spectacular! And if you are wanting a casual place to watch the planes come in, this is perfect! We came when the restaurant was empty so I was a bit surprised that the service felt a bit lacking. The food however, was really good. I had a salad with a side of onion rings, I know, a bit counter productive but hey, I wanted both. The salad was very fresh and tasty. The onion rings were to die for! I did not particularly care for the bathroom situation as it was a bit odd. The bathrooms are not free. I get it, so many people come to that beach but it was weird. The restaurant does have bathroom coupons with an attendant so if you eat there, you do not have to pay but it was a bit odd. Really a cool spot. If you come around noon when all of the bigger planes are landing they want you to purchase lunch if sitting in the prime spots. Wasn't a big deal for us as we planned to eat. Right on the beach and the closest spot to the runway made it an unforgettable experience for all of us. There was one big cruise ship in town so it was a bit busy but not crazy. We had a bunch of people including kids and it was still fine. We drank and ate while the kids swam and played on the beach. It was perfect! Food was average but it didn't matter. There were 2 cruise ships on day we visited. This place was highly recommended but it's packed with guests. They were able to seat 11 of us right away. It's Al fresco style near the water. It's shaded but not air conditioned. The servers were friendly. But since the review is for food and taste, I have to be honest and it was not good. We ordered the classic burger. It didn't come with cheese but came with lettuce, onion, tomato and fries. The hamburger didn't taste like anything and it was so dry. The fries were also very dry. No salt or any seasoning. The onion rings didn't taste like anything. There was maybe a tiny thin onion ring that got all mushy inside. All you can taste is batter. Food was horrible but if you want to experience the planes up close and swim in Maho beach, this is the place to hang. read more

Here's the deal with this very popular place. If you sit along the railing near the ocean you have to order food by 10am or you have to move. We ordered a drink and left because we weren't hungry. Not bad. We had the ribs and the nachos. The nachos were actually better than expected. The ribs weren't bad, they just seemed a bit dried out. The fries were good, but we were hoping for a nice side salad, but the sides were French fries, rice, or onion rings. We're just missing our veggies with dinner. We try to stay away from fried foods and starches, but that's a bit hard in this area. read more

Sunset Beach Bar & Grill sits right beside Maho Beach in St. Maarten for all visitors and tourists to catch world famous arrivals into SXM - Princess Juliana Airport. Sunset Grill is the "place to be". Alright so, during the daytime, the Maho Beach waters may be too colorful and there could be too much action going on to worry about sitting down for a meal here at Sunset Grill because...you can certainly get much better views of the planes standing on the beach shores. But, I stopped in during dinner time to soak up the open aired surroundings while sipping on Pina Colada's and catching early evening flight arrivals. It was all worth it! What's really great about Sunset Beach Bar & Grill is that they offer plenty of wide open views for admiring St. Maarten's sun fade below the horizon with witnessing some end of day propeller planes race over Maho Beach. In total, it's an amazing setting. I think that's what the real reward is. If you're visiting St. Maarten, I'd suggest using one night to come here. It helps put into perspective how beautiful St. Maarten is and how (in the moment) lucky I felt to be enjoying it all. For mid April, it wasn't busy which allowed me to grab a high top table overlooking the beach. But interestingly, Monday - Thursday they close at 7pm, and Friday - Sunday at 8pm. But then again, sunset was at 6:30pm and that's what makes this place special. Some extra notes... - They have a surfboard next to the bar area showcasing arrival times from all the big airlines. Lol, I took a picture with it, but really in this day and age, I had the arrival schedule on my phone to look at. Still, it's a playful part of the ambiance. Also cool was having one of these distances signs to other destinations around the world from here in St. Maarten. For instance...Paris was 4145 miles away. New York was 1693 miles and Buenos Aires was 3650 miles away. - The food type was all American like burgers, sandwiches, barbecue and pizza. Prices were great for being such a tourist hotspot. My Pina Coladas were $9 each and other menu items ranged from $15 - $20, which is probably as cheap as you'll find in St. Maarten. - The atmosphere had a tropical island setting (lol, as you'd anticipate). When plane spotting or driving past Maho Beach, Sunset Grill colorfully stands out and tempts you to walk inside. - And the good thing about showing up for drinks and dinner is that if you're staying in St. Maarten, you avoid those dreaded cruise ship passengers who must return to their sailings by the end of the day, and so the crowds really dissipate. Overall, Sunset Grill has a wonderful Caribbean vibe. It goes hand in hand with the happenings at Maho Beach. If you're visiting St. Maarten for the first time, I'd consider at least coming here to enjoy a cocktail and or dinner and relax in front of a colorful St. Maarten sunset. read more

If I would recommend this place?! Absolutely!! It's Sint. Maartens most popular spot to enjoy the sights and sounds of our international airport's takeoffs and landing for what feels like just a few feet from the top of your head at the foot of the beach. This place gets packed especially if Cruise ships are in harbor but the views are to die for. Food is good I've had their burgers, quesadillas, spare ribs and wings all great choices. The drinks are great bartenders don't play around so get the most bang for your buck. read more

A must do spot in the afternoon to watch planes landing and the sun set. The menu is pretty standard bar food- pizza and burgers. Although they do have a tank of live lobsters and you get to pick your own! They were all pretty huge the last time we were there, and my husband ended up with the smallest one they had (3 lbs!). Location, location, location. That's the story here folks. This is the bar you go to if you want to see planes landing very close to you. We stopped in Saint Maarten on a cruise and this was a bucket list thing for my husband to do. Beautiful sight. Mostly outside seating. Drinks are fine. They do have the giant frozen drinks here but I didn't have one. Food is fine. Nothing special but not bad. Again, you aren't coming here dor food. I had fish tacos because I could eat tacos every day. Overall, we had a nice relaxing midday here before we had to head back to the ship. read more

So we decided to sit at the bar for better service and so we moved....Where shortly after, the Bartender came over to us....I ordered a Titos and Soda...He then literally, merely pointed at my girlfriend, indicating he was ready for her order...didnt even verbally ask her!!...He delivered with ZERO personality...Now I understand he may not have been thrilled about the one drink order, but Cmon man....get another job...Yeah sure, you probably are tired of dealing with drunk and beligerent Americans..(of which we were not)...but they also pay for your existence and can make or break your night. Sadly, it is right next to the runway in St. Martin. It's extremely loud and noisy with airplanes landing. It's very old and dated on the decor. I've been here before and didn't remember it much. The food was very mediocre, not hardly any flavor. And the service was completely horrible. They never brought our drinks. We had to chase lady down and get our bill. She was consistently rude and unaccommodating. When I returned to pay for a bottle of wine (that the day before I had been told was paid) I showed the gentleman my 10% card. My first food stop on the island of Sint Maarten came in the form of the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill. This outdoors restaurant had an absolutely incredible view, plenty of seating, free parking for guests, and a menu to please just about anyone. Overlooking the water made paying attention to the menu a little bit hard, but this place had a good selection of pizza, burgers, salads, BBQ, and a bunch of appetizers on the side as well. I decided to order a pizza with meatball and tomatoes (I was honestly curious how pizza in the Caribbean would taste). The food came out in a decent amount of time and I really enjoyed it when it did. The crust was soft and Doughy and tasted great (especially the meatball). Overall, I had a great time at the Sunset Beach Bar and Grill and would recommend both the pizza and the place to just about anyone! read more
