This isn't the famous little dive bar at the end of the runway that people loved. It's now a massive, multi-level, restaurant with strict rules for eating and taking tables while watching airplanes. They are a full blown tourist trap now with souvenirs, a pool, and multiple bars. The food menu is basically glorified bar food and the drinks are overpriced beach cocktails and beer. We ordered a quesadilla and some nachos. They have rules posted on the tables for how long you can sit at a table and you must order food. We saw them kicking people out constantly. You're better off just hanging on the beach and waiting to eat until you find something else. read more

No liquor in the cocktails. Ordered a Mahi sandwich and waited 40 minutes for it. Ended up cancelling the order. People who arrived and ordered after us were served before us. Server didn't seem to care. Clearly a tourist trap that has zero customer service and only has customers because of the tourists watching planes fly low over the beach to land. read more

Perfect spot for a quick meal. We came here on our first day arriving in St. Martin since it was close to our resort and we wanted a small bite before dinner later that night. We arrived around five, were seated promptly, and ordered drinks and food while watching the planes fly by. The drinks came out quickly, though they weren't very strong. The food, however, was really good. We had the coconut shrimp and the fried wings and both were delicious and hit the spot. This is a great option if you want a quick, affordable meal. It's also perfect for larger groups, especially after a long day at the beach. read more

Burger was well-done and charred, only had choice of American Cheese and Swiss cheese. All the condiments were included. The fries were good. The coconut shrimp was cold and very crispy the sauce that went with it was rather spicy. The service was pretty fast and the ambience was fabulous. Looking at the beach and the plane is coming right over the beach that's part of the whole restaurant. read more

What a wonderful place to spend a few hours watching the planes land and staring at the ocean. This place can get really crowded so if that is not your thing then I recommend checking the cruise ship schedule and plan accordingly as this is one of the areas they are bussed to. First and foremost you cannot beat the view, it is spectacular! And if you are wanting a casual place to watch the planes come in, this is perfect! We came when the restaurant was empty so I was a bit surprised that the service felt a bit lacking. The food however, was really good. I had a salad with a side of onion rings, I know, a bit counter productive but hey, I wanted both. The salad was very fresh and tasty. The onion rings were to die for! I did not particularly care for the bathroom situation as it was a bit odd. The bathrooms are not free. I get it, so many people come to that beach but it was weird. The restaurant does have bathroom coupons with an attendant so if you eat there, you do not have to pay but it was a bit odd. That would not stop my from coming back but I thought it was worth mentioning. read more

Grab a bucket of beers or table from here and watch the planes roll in!! This is a large outdoor restaurant adjacent to runway. Staying in the hotel next door just minutes away, walking. I got the island combo plate with bbq chicken, rice, and French fries. I recommend the rice(has black beans too!) We also got nachos, shrimp po boy, and fish sandwich's. Service was as expected and super friendly. Visit this lively beach deck! read more

Really a cool spot. If you come around noon when all of the bigger planes are landing they want you to purchase lunch if sitting in the prime spots. Wasn't a big deal for us as we planned to eat. Right on the beach and the closest spot to the runway made it an unforgettable experience for all of us. There was one big cruise ship in town so it was a bit busy but not crazy. We had a bunch of people including kids and it was still fine. We drank and ate while the kids swam and played on the beach. It was perfect! Food was average but it didn't matter. Come for the experience and you won't regret it. Enjoy! read more

Here's the deal with this very popular place. If you sit along the railing near the ocean you have to order food by 10am or you have to move. We ordered a drink and left because we weren't hungry. Sunset Beach Bar & Grill sits right beside Maho Beach in St. Maarten for all visitors and tourists to catch world famous arrivals into SXM - Princess Juliana Airport. Sunset Grill is the "place to be". Alright so, during the daytime, the Maho Beach waters may be too colorful and there could be too much action going on to worry about sitting down for a meal here at Sunset Grill because...you can certainly get much better views of the planes standing on the beach shores. But, I stopped in during dinner time to soak up the open aired surroundings while sipping on Pina Colada's and catching early evening flight arrivals. It was all worth it! What's really great about Sunset Beach Bar & Grill is that they offer plenty of wide open views for admiring St. Maarten's sun fade below the horizon with witnessing some end of day propeller planes race over Maho Beach. In total, it's an amazing setting. I think that's what the real reward is. If you're visiting St. Maarten, I'd suggest using one night to come here. It helps put into perspective how beautiful St. Maarten is and how (in the moment) lucky I felt to be enjoying it all. For mid April, it wasn't busy which allowed me to grab a high top table overlooking the beach. But interestingly, Monday - Thursday they close at 7pm, and Friday - Sunday at 8pm. But then again, sunset was at 6:30pm and that's what makes this place special. Some extra notes... - They have a surfboard next to the bar area showcasing arrival times from all the big airlines. Lol, I took a picture with it, but really in this day and age, I had the arrival schedule on my phone to look at. Still, it's a playful part of the ambiance. Also cool was having one of these distances signs to other destinations around the world from here in St. Maarten. For instance...Paris was 4145 miles away. New York was 1693 miles and Buenos Aires was 3650 miles away. - The food type was all American like burgers, sandwiches, barbecue and pizza. Prices were great for being such a tourist hotspot. My Pina Coladas were $9 each and other menu items ranged from $15 - $20, which is probably as cheap as you'll find in St. Maarten. - The atmosphere had a tropical island setting (lol, as you'd anticipate). When plane spotting or driving past Maho Beach, Sunset Grill colorfully stands out and tempts you to walk inside. - And the good thing about showing up for drinks and dinner is that if you're staying in St. Maarten, you avoid those dreaded cruise ship passengers who must return to their sailings by the end of the day, and so the crowds really dissipate. Overall, Sunset Grill has a wonderful Caribbean vibe. It goes hand in hand with the happenings at Maho Beach. If you're visiting St. Maarten for the first time, I'd consider at least coming here to enjoy a cocktail and or dinner and relax in front of a colorful St. Maarten sunset. read more

There were 2 cruise ships on day we visited. This place was highly recommended but it's packed with guests. They were able to seat 11 of us right away. It's Al fresco style near the water. It's shaded but not air conditioned. The servers were friendly. But since the review is for food and taste, I have to be honest and it was not good. We ordered the classic burger. It didn't come with cheese but came with lettuce, onion, tomato and fries. The hamburger didn't taste like anything and it was so dry. The fries were also very dry. No salt or any seasoning. The onion rings didn't taste like anything. There was maybe a tiny thin onion ring that got all mushy inside. All you can taste is batter. Food was horrible but if you want to experience the planes up close and swim in Maho beach, this is the place to hang. read more

Not bad. We had the ribs and the nachos. The nachos were actually better than expected. The ribs weren't bad, they just seemed a bit dried out. The fries were good, but we were hoping for a nice side salad, but the sides were French fries, rice, or onion rings. We're just missing our veggies with dinner. We try to stay away from fried foods and starches, but that's a bit hard in this area. read more

Service and view were good. Drinks were good too. Nachos were good. The taste was great - the beans were really good - but not layered enough so the bottom chips were topping-less. It's a solid beach bar with great views. read more

It's in a tourist resort area but the servers act like you are bothering them. Drinks are standard. Meh.

Nachos were on point with good cheese. Service is lacking and they'd rather hang out with each other and talk instead of tending to guests. Open space to check out the planes. Good for viewing. Bathrooms says they are free until later in the afternoon read more

Sunset Beach Bar in Sint Maarten is famous for its incredible beachfront views, thrilling proximity to the airport runway, and its relaxed island atmosphere. It's the perfect spot for casual dining and drinks while watching planes land just a few feet overhead. We stopped in for breakfast and to plane watch, the food was tasty and decent for the setting, but nothing particularly stood out as exceptional. The ambiance is what makes Sunset Beach Bar such a popular destination. It's an open-air bar right on Maho Beach, giving you a front-row seat to the stunning Caribbean sunset and, of course, the famous plane landings. The vibe is laid-back and fun, with a mix of locals and tourists enjoying the island. Parking is paid for ($5) but the bar will stamp your ticket for you and it'll be free if you're a customer. read more

If I would recommend this place?! Absolutely!! It's Sint. Maartens most popular spot to enjoy the sights and sounds of our international airport's takeoffs and landing for what feels like just a few feet from the top of your head at the foot of the beach. This place gets packed especially if Cruise ships are in harbor but the views are to die for. Food is good I've had their burgers, quesadillas, spare ribs and wings all great choices. The drinks are great bartenders don't play around so get the most bang for your buck. read more

A must do spot in the afternoon to watch planes landing and the sun set. The menu is pretty standard bar food- pizza and burgers. Although they do have a tank of live lobsters and you get to pick your own! They were all pretty huge the last time we were there, and my husband ended up with the smallest one they had (3 lbs!). I had a burger and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly and served with fries. The server was very friendly and made sure to check back with us regularly. read more

Came by here to watch the jets land and take off with drinks and appetizers. This was very entertaining seeing the bigger commercial jets take off and watching the bodies fly across the beach. Their wings weren't too hot but tasty. The beers were very cold and the frosty cocktail lacked alcohol. Service was slow but the place was packed. I gave an extra star for the entertainment. read more

Would not go here again! We were told we could only sit at the bar if not ordering food. Decided to order food in order to get a good view of the planes flying over Maho Beach to land. Seated ourselves and waiter comes up and tells us we cannot sit at this table because its only 2 of us and the table fits up to 6 people. He points to tables in the middle of the nearly empty restuarant! We leave. There is no need to come here and pay money for overpriced food and gross watered down drinks if you can't see the planes. We came here several years ago and stayed despite the horrible drinks due to the location. Not again. However later on, we came back to use the bathroom and saw 2 people sitting at the same table! read more

I know times are tough....but looks like management has a problem here... Setting: Sunday night...on vacation...the place looked relatively busy....we entered....No one to greet us, so we walked in...sat at a high top closest to the water, then realized there was only one waitress.... So we decided to sit at the bar for better service and so we moved....Where shortly after, the Bartender came over to us....I ordered a Titos and Soda...He then literally, merely pointed at my girlfriend, indicating he was ready for her order...didnt even verbally ask her!!...He delivered with ZERO personality...Now I understand he may not have been thrilled about the one drink order, but Cmon man....get another job...Yeah sure, you probably are tired of dealing with drunk and beligerent Americans..(of which we were not)...but they also pay for your existence and can make or break your night. My first food stop on the island of Sint Maarten came in the form of the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill. This outdoors restaurant had an absolutely incredible view, plenty of seating, free parking for guests, and a menu to please just about anyone. Overlooking the water made paying attention to the menu a little bit hard, but this place had a good selection of pizza, burgers, salads, BBQ, and a bunch of appetizers on the side as well. I decided to order a pizza with meatball and tomatoes (I was honestly curious how pizza in the Caribbean would taste). The food came out in a decent amount of time and I really enjoyed it when it did. The crust was soft and Doughy and tasted great (especially the meatball). Overall, I had a great time at the Sunset Beach Bar and Grill and would recommend both the pizza and the place to just about anyone! read more
