Have been taking our cars here for years. Had an oil change this week and the plastic shield on the bottom of my car was not clipped on correctly. After hearing a terrible noise come from my car as I was driving to work I called the dealership and explained my situation unsure if it was safe to drive. The woman I spoke with on the phone told me I should call my insurance as there was no reason they would be near that part under my car for an oil change. I asked her how they drained the oil and she transferred me to voicemail. I called back and spoke to a service manager who had me come back in so they could clip it back in the correct position. I've always owned Chevys, and have taken them to Sunset Auto Center. I have always received the best service from their entire service department. I've been going here for the past 5 years and every time I go the service gets better and better. I cannot believe these negative comments below because of the wonderful service I have had. I saw a vehicle online from sunset Auto Center I wanted to purchase so I inquired. A salesperson replied, she was very pleasant. She answered my questions and as I told her my intention was to buy the vehicle and pick it later since I was not a local, she immediately pressured my by saying there were 3 other people looking to buy the vehicle. She advised me to put a deposit so she can take it out of the lot. I told her I would get back to her. The next day I called her and I said I wanted the vehicle so I put a $2500 deposit on it. The next day at around 4 o'clock she called me and told me that the car had been sold. I was clearly upset and asked her how it was possible for her to have sold a car that I had already put a deposit on. Her response was "I never ran the credit card". After this discussion she was no longer pleasant and told me that if I had a problem I can take it up with her manager. I see that putting a deposit means nothing, be wary of giving your credit card information. read more

This auto service is extremely the best! I say that because the several times I have taken my cars here for oil changes Nd tire rotations has never let me down. I could have taken it elsewhere for free thru my dealership contract. Which I did twice each time the service was not very good. The great price sunset offers is more than worth it. From scheduling, to the technician Tom Nickel to the young lady who checked me out in the office was supreme! I sure hope that Sunset auto appreciates and values their workers. This is 3 years to late but late is better than never i will never buy a car from this place again i bought a chrysler town and country from this place the tires were different and on top of that when we went down the grade in slo the first time it shook so hard the whole car i thought i was going to crash im still scared to go down the grade thats horrible when they say they do a really good check on everything to make everything "safe" i had to buy brand new tires $700.00 the alignment was way off and the roaders were shot "warped" so if i didn't know how to drive safe i a dangerous car all i could do was pray that we would make it down safe (mind you i have 5 kids in the car) when i went down the grade it was one of the scariest experiences i have ever been in ... these people really don't do proper checks on there cars i think thats horrible you sell cars that are defective and you lie to get a sale (well they are salesmen) but when it comes to the safety of the cars driving ability and putting my kids and my family in danger and when i bring it up they say it met the quality standards that just made me cringe. They also said well you came in like a few months after you bought it well that was the first time i went down the grade they made it seem like i went crazy driving dirty and that it was my fault.... ummmm NO!!! They are horrible and to this day i am still scared to go down the grade thats how much it scared me i hope this doesnt happen to anyone else read more

I give 5 stars for the sales experience I had for my truck, but this review is 2 stars for the services department. Just to put it out there, my wife said they told her the transmission fluid needs to be changed. Get this, per manual, the transmission fluid doesn't need to be changed until 97,500 miles, her SUV is only at 40,000...They're trying to pull one over on her, and its frustrating b/c if I was there, I would be able to call them out on it, b/c I know vehicles. On top of that, here's the issue and I'm still not convinced they're being honest, or maybe they don't know basic math. An oil change for my truck is $70.69, which my truck takes 7.5 qts, so 8 qts total, with filter. So $70.69 would've covered 8 qts oil and filter. My wife took my truck in, I had to work, for an oil change with a $40 oil change coupon that covered 5 qts oil and filter. So one would think I would just have to pay for the additional 3 qts. of oil and disposal. So tell me why they had my wife pay exactly $70.69 in the end. They claimed the coupon was used, but if a normal oil change for my truck is $70.69, how does it coincidentally come out to $70.69 exactly even with the coupon?? My point is, don't say a coupon is being used when in fact the coupon doesn't make a difference in the price obviously. Will NEVER have my vehicle serviced here again, only reason I did it this time was bc of the coupon, which played no part. Another thing, when my wife took her truck in for the APPOINTMENT time, she ended up not being called until 4+ hours later. Btw, she's pregnant and I had to be at work. What is the point of making an appointment if it takes just as long as a walk in?? Luckily they compensated her with a 10% discount, ONLY bc I made a fuss about it when I took her to get the truck, seems making someone feel uncomfortable or calling a business out is the only way to get compensated for their poor professionalism. Although there was a compensation, it doesn't excuse the fact my pregnant wife had to wait 4+ hours for an appointment to be completed. Worst service ever!!! They have had my truck for 3 weeks working on repairs. Service team told me the hold up was due to warranty company. After visiting serveral times the service manager admitted to me that the truck was not being work on. Due to them being short staffed. I finally got my truck back today. I was not able to pick it up so my wife brought it home. When I got home I inspected the truck. It is leaking oil all over our driveway. And is still way out of alignment. I tried contacting service right away and I was told they will not be in untill tomorrow morning at 7:30 am. I will not take my vehicle in for service here ever again. It took them about 2-3 weeks or so to figure out what was wrong with my car. They "fixed" it and called me to tell me the engine light might still be on but not to worry, it's just a sensing problem. I told them I wanted them to fix it so the engine light would not be on anymore so if there really was a problem I would know it's real. He said they would work it out. I got a call the next day saying everything was fine the light wasn't coming on anymore, so I had my brother pick it up while I was at work. When my brother picked it up they told my brother not to worry if the engine light come on, its just a sensing problem & should be fine. He drove it home with the engine light still on thinking it was ok. I drove it the next morning, the light was on and my car was still shaking. I called them back and told them I wanted that fixed. I didn't bring it to them so they could half fix it only, I wanted my car fixed. So I brought it back in, they said they wouldn't charge me a diagnostic fee but of course a service fee. I asked if they would've just kept it there longer, would I still have to pay 2 full service fee + parts. I understand it may be more than what I initially paid for since it's more work but it probably wouldn't be an additional fee. The guy told me that if I would've left my car there longer they would have charged me another diagnostic fee + a little service fee, which didn't make sense to me that I would get charged 2 diagnostic fee because they initially told me if I fixed my car there, diagnosing is free. So if they would have fully diagnosed my car and fixed it I wouldn't have to bring it back there again. I brought my car back for them to fix for a "free diagnostic." My car was there for an additional 2 weeks. I just got my car back and the next day, another sensor light came on! I will no longer be bringing my car back to them. They've had it for over a month and I feel like I'm back at square one. read more

I Just wanted to defend Sunset autocenter I was there picking my truck up when Ivory S car was being pulled into the shop and heard the car hit the wall and heard the throtle lock up and the brakes fail the technican had to use the emergancy brake to stop the car and When i went over to find out what happened the mechanic was checking the brake fuild level and the resevor was bone dry those meaning no brakes to stop the bug from hitting the wall two this dealer is honest fair and is very good at what they do took my 88 chevy pickup in to see about getting the door handle fixed after spending 8 hours on trying to get a little pin back into the door they called and said they tryed and could not fix it and check this on charged me for an hour diguostic fee that is it and was told since they did not fix it they gave me the opiton to order the parks and apply the fee i paid for them to look at it towards parts or labor these guys and honest and very fair wish i had bough my truck from these guys insead of lompoc honda read more

Prices are too high. Went in for a oil change on a 15 duramax, I was quoted $120. All my other oil changes in Texas were around $80. I thought maybe it was higher because it's CA, I called Rio Vista Chevy (20 min drive away) and there price is $89. When I told the service writer, he wasn't willing to work with me. read more

We purchased a 2008 chevrolet 2500 diesel and had to make two trips to dealer which was 90 miles away. They replaced the speakers which caused the door not to open. Dealer said it was fixed. Went back to pick up truck and the window would not roll down. The dealer stated online and on the window that it had a convenience package that included dual climate control and on the wheel volume which it did not. We had so many issues with truck that we did not notice it lacking the package when they delivered the truck. One positive thing was the salesman James. My advise is to check the vehicle over carefully to make sure that it is equipped with the options you pay for. read more

I will NEVER GO BACK! I took my car in for a new battery and got a called that they crashed it into a wall. When i got there he told me that i had no breaks and thats why they crashed it. they had to put a new bumper and fender on it. they told me my car wasnt worth 1000 dollars. THAT DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO SMASH IT IN A WALL. they did a HACK paint job, i pointed out the flaws and was told "that was there i have pictures" no stupid you have pictures after it was crashed not before like I do! he gave me a list of things that were wrong with my car said it would coast around 5500 to get it fixed.I did not want them touching my 1970 VW Bug. I then had it towed to a different shop. and had a break inspection done as well as gave them my "diagnostics from sunset" I was TOLD MY BREAKS WHERE WORKING JUST FINE! and they found NOTHING else wrong with it...goes to show me SUNSET ARE SCAMMERS and where just trying to cover the coast from the damage THEY DID. TRYING TO BLAME "NO BREAKS" WAS THE CAUSE BUT IT WAS REALLY THEIR OWN JOY RIDING THAT CAUSED THE DAMAGE. also I had pictures of skid marks for 20feet. read more

I was referred by a friend to contact Sal and I was not disappointed. We were towed in, with our truck AND the 5th Wheel behind it. We were allowed to stay overnight. The next morning we had a crew of guys helping out to find the problem and the solution. All the guys were super polite and nicely dressed; one of them even moved a truck so we could maneuver out. They could have charged us the minimum hourly but they didn't. Avoid this service center. They spend more time trying to upsell services than in completing the work you scheduled. I made an 11:30 appointment for an oil change and check the rotors on my brakes. My wife renewed her driver's license and the car was still not done. 3.5 hours later I get a call, they are ready to replace my rotors and while they are at it here are 4 other recommended items they should fix. I didn't want the rotors replaced, I can do that, I just wanted them checked. I asked if I could come by and pick up the car and they still hadn't done the oil change. I had a dinner date so I said I would pick up my car the next day first thing. Got there at 8:30 and waited another 45 minutes while they "completed the paperwork". I asked why I made the appointment if they were going to take 4 hours for an oil change. "Well the tech had to drive the car to check the brakes and then wanted the service supervisor to check them as well but he was busy." Never an apology nor any semblance of caring that I was upset. I will never go back there again. They don't seem to care and only want to upsell more services for more money. read more

I just purchased a new truck here. I have to say that of all the cars and trucks i purchased over the last 30 years, this by far has been the easiest and best experience I have ever had. I found the truck that I wanted Online through the "Chevy Online". Keep in mind that I live 3 hours south of this dealership. I called them to verify that the truck was still in stock, spoke to Gaby. She was very professional and attentive. Having verified that it was there, I was transferred to the General Manager who worked hard for my business, gave me the deal I was looking for, then arranged to have the truck delivered to my house. I even got a call about 30 min out that they were close to my home for the truck delivery. Upon arrival, Johnny, introduced himself, I reviewed and signed off on all the docs, he gracefully went over the truck and they were on there way.......I can't begin to tell yo how easy this was. Worst place ever! Be prepared to be ripped off! Took our Buick for oil change 2 weeks ago and went well, no issues, cost was $32.36. We then decided to take our Jeep for an oil change the other day. Sunset Auto Center (employee #574) then calls to say the brakes are "dangerously bad" and it would cost $746 to repair. He explained that the back brakes were completely gone, had no brake fluid, and "spitting brake fluid everywhere". He also said the front brakes were very bad due to compensating for the front. After hearing the cost, I explained that I did not want to have the brakes fixed as the value of the vehicle was not worth the expense. Within 15 minutes the manager (employee #833) called urging me to allow them to repair the brakes and that it would be a liability for them to let us pick it up. I explained that I would have it towed, but would not be getting the brakes repaired at Sunset Auto and only wanted them to proceed with the oil change. He then said we would need to sign a waiver. We took the jeep to another mechanic only to find out that there were absolutely no traces of brake fluid from leaks, the front brake pads were at 50%, and back brake pads were very low, but had not effected the rotors (as stated by Sunset Auto). We ended up getting the back brakes pads replaced and replaced the master cylinder. Total cost came to $285. Thankfully, we saved $466 by NOT repairing the car at Sunset Auto Center in Lompoc! The jeep is now running good and brakes feel great! read more

Do not go here. I have had my car serviced 3 times here and the last two times, they over charged for us, just to end up taking the car back 2 months later for the same issue. Then, when they said they had finally fixed it we paid 870$. ONLY for it to break down a week later about the issue we had just taken it there for multiple times. Lastly, they looked at it for free to try and resolve things, even though I just wanted my money back. They said the car is fine and they couldn't find anything. So 4 days after getting the car back the clutch no longer engages and completely stopped working. No, this is not a coincidence. If I could, I would give this dealership 0 stars. Its no mistake or coincidence that multiple people have gone here and been ripped off and over charged. They do not do things the correct way and give the excuse of being dealership for it costing so much. Yet do not put in the time or effort for what your actually paying. Further action is being taken. Save yourself the time and money and do not go here. read more
