I am leaving a 1‑star review only because a lower rating is not possible. The salesperson, Nick, was professional and helpful, but my experience with the rest of the staff--especially management--was extremely disappointing. They conducted a hard credit inquiry for a truck I was pursuing late in the day and I was told we would continue the deal the next business day. When I followed up the next day, I was informed the truck had already been sold, meaning my credit was run for no benefit. When I spoke with the sales manager, he claimed they had no record of running my credit, even though I was holding the credit report in my hand, and dismissed the situation with, "that's how it goes." There was no effort to retain me as a customer or remedy the situation in any way. This was my third attempt to purchase a vehicle from this dealership and I have never completed a transaction with them. That is ultimately my responsibility for returning, but based on repeated negative experiences, I strongly recommend avoiding this business. After a horrible, shady experience at another dealership, we were able to find the exact car we wanted (which was very rare) at Sunset Auto Center. Their customer service was amazing! Our salesman, Nick, was super helpful and understanding of our bad experience. We are 3 hours away, but Nick took a deposit over the phone and held the car for us while we drove over. Once we arrived, he had the car washed and pulled around for us, ready for a test drive. Nick and the finance staff made the whole process seamless, easy, and relatively quick. I would not go to sunset for service. I had my Buick fixed in Feb 2024 they told me my parts were not covered by warranty so I was charged $375.00. my car went in to shop for the same problem 9 months later for the same problem. At that time I found out that GM had issued in may of 2023 that the problem I was having with the car was a known issue and should have been fixed at no charge I called GM corporate phone # and was told by them I was intitled to a refund from dealership they should have not charged me for part and labor. I talked to Sal maintenance supervisor at sunset auto in Lompoc he told me in a week I would have a refund we are now going on two months and he will not return my calls or communicate with me on status of refund. GM is buying the Buick back after 3 repair for the same problem enclave only had 68,000 miles service rep told me I should try another brand so I did I bought a Lincoln after owning GM products my whole life. I just moved here to Lompoc and I have always tried to keep my business local. what a disappointment. I will never buy a car from here I would go somewhere else. Lincoln of Oxnard went above and beyond and even delivered my car to my home here in Lompoc at no charge. Sunset could learn a thing or two from them. this is a warning to all so they don't take advantage of you I would just avoid sunset at all cost!!!! read more

Super helpful honest and they worked super quick to get my paperwork done and get me out of there with my new car as fast as possible so I could make my next appointment. Once I told them I was coming to see the car they held the key for me so no one else would buy it first before I got there. Our first new car was a 1980 Chevy Monza Spider, which was the last Chevy we ever bought; until on March 8th when we bought a 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 LTZ. Through the years, we purchased 1 Plymouth, 2 Fords and 7 Toyotas, so we aren't strangers to the new car buying process. I can also tell you that our car buying experiences were generally poor to miserable. Context is important in our review of Sunset Auto Center of Lompoc, CA. Lompoc is 163 miles from where we live, so we communicated via email and text for nearly all the preliminary work. From my earliest email contact with our sales consultant Tyson Uribe to shaking his hand just before leaving the dealership, he was friendly, knowledgeable, prompt with answers to my questions, and understood my apprehension working with a dealership so far away from home. We had substantial email communication, and he was spot on with all the things I was looking for. He and I only discussed an 'out the door' price from the very beginning. He provided me with an itemized 'out the door' quote. At this point, the other dealerships I was considering would not itemize their offers. Prior to arriving at the dealership, he helped with my military discount and made everything ready for a comfortable and straight forward experience at the dealership. The Sales Manager, George Nordquist was like no other I've ever met. He and I talked on the phone early in the process when it was evident that I had made up my mind to purchase through Sunset Auto Center. Based on forthright information I sent him about my trade-in, he made me a very fair offer. Once we arrived at the dealership, he had our trade-in appraised almost instantly, and immediately confirmed the price he offered us earlier. He also made sure that I was able to place a small deposit to hold the truck until we could get down there, which was a good since someone tried to buy the truck even though it had a 'sold' sign on it! Salvador Arias, Finance Manager was like no other we've ever met. Our F&I experience with Salvador was by far the BEST EXPERIENCE EVER. As I stated above, we've purchased a few cars in our lifetime. Everything was ready for us. Absolutely ZERO high pressure up sale shenanigans. Extended warranty was presented, and Salvador accepted my answer without hesitation. For this alone we're grateful. There were no surprises in the contract and the math was correct the first time! Overall, our experience was beyond excellent. Our appointment was for 9:00 am and we were done by 12:00 noon. Yes, start to finish for the in-person part of the process took us less time than the drive down to Lompoc. Communication was exemplary, pricing was more than fair for both the Silverado and for our trade-in, and our experience with the folks at Sunset Auto Center was above reproach. We bypassed at least 15 dealerships between here and Lompoc. Our experience was so positive, we plan to travel back to Lompoc, stay a couple days and do our first service on the Silverado. What a great experience I had at Sunset Chevrolet in Lompoc, CA. Our salesman, Trevor Wagonseller knows how to think out of the box to provide the best customer service. I had been trying to purchase a 2021 Z71 Tahoe for several weeks. I built my Tahoe through Chevy.com online and began watching for a model matching my build specs 100%. While I found several in Orange County where I live, I couldn't get anyone at the local lots to return my calls, nor emails, nor texts. It was incredible.....I wanted to buy a car.....have the cash.....and no one would call me back. When I finally did get in touch with a salesperson, they told me they weren't willing to transfer the car so that I could purchase it. Therefore, I started searching on my own. I quickly found one matching my specs in Lompoc, CA. 180 miles north of my home. I called Sunset Chevrolet and spoke to Trevor Wagonseller. Trevor was polite and professional....not pushy either. I told him my predicament in Orange County....and that I would like to purchase the Tahoe from Sunset Chevrolet in Lompoc. As it would be a three hour drive, my wife and I decided that we didn't want to drive up in our car......given that we would have two cars to drive home. As there are no rental car drops in Lompoc, we decided to take the Amtrak Surfliner along the coast. This was a perfect option. However, when we arrived at Lompoc Surf Train Station.....it was in the middle of nowhere....7 miles out of town. As the cellular service coverage was sketchy....I called our hotel....but they wouldn't come get us. So I called Trevor and asked him if he would pick us up. He did not even hesitate and was there to pick my wife and I up within 15 minutes. I found out from his manager the next day that he was off work when I called him....and he still came to get us. That is going above and beyond in my opinion. My wife thanked him for rescuing us from a 10 mile walk in the dark. Trevor dropped us at our hotel.....and told us that he would meet us at the dealership at 9:30 AM the next morning. When we arrived, the Tahoe was in front....fully detailed from the day before. We couldn't have been happier. I had provided all of our information in advance of our trip and Trevor and his team worked to have the paperwork ready in advance so that we weren't at the dealership all day. Also....another wrinkle......I wanted to pay for the car in cash. However, I brought the cash on a debit card for safety....and this type of transaction was above Sunset's maximum limit. Not wanting to go home empty handed.......and not having a car to drive home, Trevor and I worked together to find a solution to complete the successful transaction. Voila'. I like people who think on their feet and don't accept failure. That describes my experience with Trevor. Needless to say. We are very happy with our new Tahoe and our experience at Sunset Chevrolet in Lompoc. I certainly recognize there are other people on the team at Sunset Chevrolet that made our experience a tremendous success....and they deserve credit here as well. We feel very fortunate that we were able to work with Trevor. His integrity, professionalism, kindness and perseverance are a reflection of the team and atmosphere at Sunset Chevrolet. He was able to get us on their schedule, fix the car (the parts were under warranty) at no cost and get us on our way in under an hour. The woman at the service desk offered us a shuttle anywhere in town, she was super sweet. Within an hour of arriving there we were back on the road and rearing to go. They treated us like family. Anywhere but here!! Terrible service department. This has got to be the most cooked, incompetent and lying bunch that I have ever dealt with on any car I have ever owned. I had them do some repair work on my Chrysler 300 several years back when the car failed to start due to a faulty sentry key. I took it to them versus the expense of having it towed up to Santa Maria. I already knew what the problem was because I paid to have a Chrysler mechanic come down from Santa Maria to look at it and diagnose it at my home with his scan tool. I even provided them with a list of the codes we had pulled, as they apparently disconnected the battery without scanning the vehicle first, and then called me back to say that all of the codes had been wiped out ... yeah, by them! Having a simple key replacement and programming done ended up costing me over $800 plus and I was without my car for several weeks after the song and dance I got from the Chrysler service manager, and a Toyota mechanic named John who didn't know his rear end from a burnt biscuit when it came to Chrysler repair. Not only did he misdiagnose the problem, and tried to sell me a bunch of parts that were not needed, but he strung me along for those couple of weeks while he tried to figure out what was going on and the original estimate kept growing and growing as he added part after part to the list .. all in an attempt to really bleed what they thought was a sucker dry, so they thought. At the end of all of this and me having to call the service manager repeatedly, I had to tell him that the job had better be done the next day or I was coming down there with a tow truck and take it out of there. They miraculously had the thing done the next after noon after me threatening them which should never have been necessary! When I got the vehicle back, it was then that I discovered that they damaged my trunk release mechanism when they apparently tried to pry it open because their 'Chrysler expert John' didn't even know enough to find the emergency trunk release which I had to tell him about in a subsequent phone conversation. So I had to pay to have that repaired. I ran an auto repair shop for the better part of 10 years before retiring and I know a bunch of bull when I smell it. When I started questioning them over the high cost and huge time delay, is when they started getting really short with me and then not returning my phone calls. It was when I showed up in person that they had nowhere to run. I will never ever use them again for either a sale on a car or a repair, as I have also had bad luck with coming on the lot and test driving several cars that caught my eye while driving by. The smarmy bunch in the sales dept. that started in on their sales games is a whole new story altogether! Customers beware of this outfit! read more

I purchased a vehicle from this dealer a little over a year ago along with an extended warranty "Ultimate Coverage" recommended by the finance/service manager. In doing so I was also informed that they would always be available to me if I needed their assistance. A few weeks back I had a MAJOR repair needed and was told that once the customer drives off this lot, it is now their full responsibility and is out of our hands"!! I was not happy as I had just bought this used vehicle and was under the impression that I had a good faith, man of their word type of system. I had called this dealer as my car was towed to another dealer that was closer to my home and the warranty department was giving me a hard time, so I reached out to them and they told me they would not help me. I called several times and to get the run around. I was told I would be helped and they would make sure I would not have to go through this alone. Then once I got in touch with the manager it was another story. It was like the game of telephone. I was without a car for over 10 days and had no way of getting to work and back, picking up my child and having transpiration in case of an emergency. I wish the employees I left messages to would have returned my calls, especially the Owner of the dealership and the general manager. I think it's important to show the level of gratitude and how important the role Trish and her team at Auto Sunset Center played in our experience was so I'm starting with this: My mom worked her whole life to get a Buick. From the time my mom can remember, she remembers her father, my grandfather who I never got to meet, LOVED Buicks. When I would ask my mom and aunty why they loved Buicks so much, I would hear their stories of how "papa" loved them so much he would buy a new one every two years. They fondly remember the salesman would even drive the car to him personally every two years from Hilo to Ookala. This is the service my mom remembers from Buick. My grandfather passed away suddenly when she and my aunty were in their early 20's and the days growing up where they received their new Buick personally delivered by the salesman every two years and being taken for long rides in their Buick by my grandfather was some of their fondest childhood memories. Naturally, they shared my grandfathers passion and loyalty to Buick. For me growing up, all I heard was how much my mom dreamed of having a Buick. Upon her retirement, she was finally able to do just that and knew exactly what she wanted obviously because she had been dreaming of this her whole life. I live in Hawaii and Trish and her team at Sunset Auto Center did everything possible and beyond to make sure my mom's dream car was delivered exactly as promised to Hawaii. Trish and her staff are absolutely the best team! 3 years later and 2,441 miles away, Trish still checks in with my mom to make sure she is enjoying her car. That truly says something when we have never even met in person and she knows the possibility of us being a repeat customer is slim. If I lived in California, I would buy any car from them and encourage anyone that is able to do so. Unfortunately this review comes way too late and only because my moms experience with Honolulu Buick GMC is anything but what they offer at Sunset Auto Center. If you plan on bringing your Buick or GMC or Cadillac to Honolulu, do not take to Honolulu location. As I don't want this review to be anything else but complete positive for Trish and her team, if you are looking for true genuine experience with the second largest purchase of your life, trust Trish and her team! Worst service ever! $300 service ended up being $2000 I took my truck in for regular maintenance on a Saturday, a fuel filter and coolant change about $300. I drop it off at 8:30 they say it should be an hour or two. I have a buddy of mine take me down at 12 thinking they forgot to call. The hood was up and nobody working on it so we call an hour later. They say we did the fuel filter drove it to the wash rack and it was idling and died. I asked for a loaner they said no we can't give you one because of insurance. I call on Monday morning looking for an update and the service guy george said exactly "I don't know I don't have any answers for you. Later they finally found it was a "fuel injection control module" the part is about $1400 and then plus the labor. They didn't want to take blame for anything. I find it super shady that a great running truck that's never giving me any problems goes in for a fuel service and then something on the fuel system breaks. ( my belief they messed it up and didn't want to take blame). So I spoke to the service manager (Barbie or Barbara)who I had called and she said she would call back but it was George that actually called. I went down to chevy and She pretty much said it's going to be $1827 and that was with a $300 discount on labor I believe. I had to take the deal because I didn't want them to do anything else shady to my truck. I got my truck back and it still said low coolant so I thought maybe it was a sensor got home checked the coolant it didn't look new so I added some coolant and no more low coolant light! Looks like they didn't change my coolant or if they did they obviously didn't put enough. Still debating on if I should take to court or not and definitely file something with BBB 1. I feel as they messed up my truck as the part can't get wet it has a sticker on it saying don't jet wash and the truck stoped working when they was washing out the engine bay according to them. 2. Worst service customer and labor 3. I don't even think they did my coolant change but I didn't want to deal with them any more. read more

My granddaughter took her car in. They told her she needed a new motor. So we agreed to a new one not refurbished. They did the work. I paid the 9000 plus bill. She drives for a few days then there is a oil leak. The forgot a seal. So was in for another round of service. We pick the car up they drive for a while. Then it starts making strange noise. So we take it back in. Needs a new motor the motor company has agreed to replace under warranty. Mind you the first replaced one only was 80 days old and had 4700 miles on it. So they will replace the motor that was not a Chevy motor we find out. We were never told that. But they want us to pay for the labor. 2000.00. Talks to owner he sounded sympathetic to begin with. But I think he was just paying lip service. Long story short DO NOT USE SERVICE THERE. Drive the extra 20-30 and use RIO VISTA. Won't stand by there work. read more

I recently rented an RV to go on vacation and it unfortunately broke down. It was towed to Sunset auto Center to get repaired. The service center was great. When they looked at the RV and determined that it wouldn't be ready for a few days, they quickly got us one of their rental cars and got us on our way. The rental was a beautiful, brand new car and was only $38.00 a day (half the price of rental places). When I returned a few days later and the RV still wasn't ready, Reuben from the service center was kind enough to call Hertz Car Rental and had them come and pick me up. I've been taking my car to sunset for a few years and I always chose it for the quality of customer service, not the prices. But after this previous visit I won't be going back. Three and a half hours for an oil change and tire rotation. Which is ok but I was told "ten more minutes " multiple times in the span of an hour. When I go to pay the young girl at the desk was simply rude. I was a little confused at the price as online there was a special for $40, yet she said the total was $70. When I brought this up she rudely says "you can take that up with your advisor" ... completely unaware I even had an advisor. So sad to see this customer service go downhill. Only plus side was Jose who gave us a ride when we dropped the car off, he was great conversation and very friendly. He is the only reason for the second star. read more

Had a great experience at sunset auto center service department. Took my Chevy equinox to get the check engine light checked that had came on again after a different dealer service department turned it off and said it was fine. Made appt Thursday for friday, dropped off car by 12:30pm, was able to get an answer by 4pm on what service was needed and that the parts were already ordered and should be completed and ready for pick up Monday by end of day. As well as confirmation that this was all covered under my power train warranty. 2PM comes around Monday and the car is ready! Easy breezy experience. Deceitful sales tactics! Be weary of this dealer folks, quick recount of my experience today ... found the truck I wanted online, called and dealt with salesman Brad as well as sales manager Anthony. Because I live 4 hours drive away I tried to set up a delivery, I was even willing to buy the vehicle sight unseen. Mind you I had prequalified financing and was prepared to pay entire price of vehicle (aside from my financing) prior to them releasing it. Anthony was resistant to the idea so the only option was for me to drive to go pick the truck up by renting a car or traveling by train (which I was willing to do either). Once again I had searched long and hard for exactly the truck I wanted and I had finally found it so I was willing to make the trip. We established a price and I asked Brad to make sure to secure the vehicle. I then made an online rental car reservation with Hertz per Brad's recommendation as it was close to the dealership. Brad told me he was going to talk to Anthony for final details. They then began to play a game with me telling me there were other buyers now "making offers", after some back-and-forth Brad then told me the other buyer "fell through" (I have saved the text messages as evidence). Once again it was in Anthony's hands of management to secure the vehicle for me. I made it clear that I would do whatever was necessary to buy the truck right then. Brad told me they would call me "right back" ... they did not call and after an hour I called back to which Brad then told me they sold the vehicle. I told him straight away this was deceitful and called into question the business approach of Sunset auto center. All of this to say, Brad and Anthony did not deal with me with integrity, i'm sure I'm not the first, be warned. --------------UPDATE-------------- "... we would be more than happy to further discuss the issue and move forward in a positive direction" Well it seems the reply from Eric Luette sales manager from Sunset Auto Center is nothing more than posturing. I've sent him three emails reaching out to him after his reply ... he will not return any of them. It's obvious his response is nothing more than words on a public forum to give the appearance as if he is providing some level of customer service. Great service! Traveling through Buellton on 2/22 in our RV, we needed help with our Workhorse Chevy engine. We called Sunset Auto in Lompoc and they told us to come right in, even though we didn't have a reservation. We dropped off the RV, went to lunch and by the time we got back, they had resolved the problem. Turns out it was a computer glitch that caused a warning light, but there was nothing wrong! So, off we went, warning light off, and at NO CHARGE. They said they wouldn't charge us since they didn't find anything needing fixing! Great service, friendly people, especially the fellow who went out of his way to warn us of an overhead obstruction I was about to drive into. Wish I lived closer so I could use them more! read more

Buyer and Sellers beware. More to come in a bit, but everyone needs to understand one fact. The 3 hour job i was quoted took 6 and the inspection staff was not at the RV often. The crew was not helpful or kind and the whole experience was a real bummer. Especially when you're spending your money on a needed service. When the service lead refused to allow the inspector to look under the front steering wheel dash, which takes a couple minutes to see if the main light fuse was blown so the RV can be safe on the road, I became more concerned. Others bringing their business that may not be receiving the services necessary for safety. Very surprising. I offered to pay extra even though they were hired to inspect these aspects. I was never informed by anyone including service manager as to what the multi point inspection is. Nothing in writing & you get a sheet with recommendations at the end. I was given a brief description by customer service scheduler, and Jorge couldn't be bothered to inform me of the process or action being taken for the day. Very disappointed in this business. If you're just going to get a basic oil change, no big deal. Anything of any cost, require the amount of time & get quote. Why do you want to pay for six labor hours when 3 total are spent.? Buyer BEWARE. This scenario is being brought to several agencies that may have an interest. Injustice like this needs to stop. We work hard for our money and deserve to be treated with respect. Who likes waiting a half an hour to speak with the service lead, to be turned away as he turned to assist another customer that had just arrived in an RV! They were served for an additional 10 minutes while i stood and waited while the service manager and staff were drinking coffee in the phone reservation office. This last experience with Sunset Auto was the best ever. Ruben was the kindest, most accommodating, caring individual I've ever dealt with in any situation. I had lots of issues with my 2005 Silverado, he paid attention to my concerns, checked and fixed every one assuring me that my truck was good to take on a long trip, the first of at least two major road trips. Service center at Sunset auto (Chevrolet) is by far the best service department I have had the pleasure of doing business with. The staff was pleasant and the technicians are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I have not purchased a vehicle from them however there service department alone makes me want to continue doing business with them in the future. The service manager took time to review the issues with my Yukon Xl and assured he would address the issues which he is currently doing!
