This was an excellent little cafe. My husband and I were in town for a mini getaway and wanted to find a nice place for breakfast. I am vegetarian and always look on Yelp for places that have vegetarian options. This place was great, both with the quality of the food and with the excellent service we received from our waitress. She was very friendly and hospitable; she kept my coffee cup full. I don't remember the name of the dish, but it was a large portion of their country potatoes topped with lots of fresh sauteed veggies and a little melted cheese; I had sourdough toast as well. It was THE BEST breakfast dish I have ever had in a restaurant; the ingredients were so fresh and not overly cooked at all. My husband had a wonderful plate of food as well (although he declined to have his food photographed); it was a combination plate with one waffle, eggs over medium and sausage - I don't remember if he had potatoes or toast (he should have let me take a photo ;) ). If we are ever back in the area we will definitely come back to Sunrise Cafe. :) read more

This is a basic local breakfast joint. The service is friendly and prompt. The food comes out quick and it's all solid and delicious. My wife and I both enjoyed our breakfasts and service. I've been coming here for years. I enjoy the sunny tropical decor and jazz playing in the background. The food is enjoyable. Our medium over eggs come out just right. Their corn beef hash is homemade and tasty. There is good variety on the menu, including vegetarian options, especially if you remember to look at the menu board. They offer both home fries and country potatoes. The salsa, which they will bring if you ask, is really good and a little spicy. Very bad customer service there was hair in the food. It was disgusting. Hash browns were undercooked. They took a plate of food off the table and still charged me with it even though they took it away from me because of a complaint about the eggs. Nobody had clothes on in the kitchen or washed their hands or had a hair net on. read more

In a reasonable amount of time brought us our very delicious breakfast! I had a tasty and perfect mushroom, cheese, and shrimp omelet with thin slices of avocado carefully arranged on top of the omelet. She had one of the scrambles, vegetarian. Toast and home fries. The food was "alright". Service was terrible. We went in on Mother's Day - myself, my daughter and grandson and not one of them said happy Mother's Day. Which would have been ok but one person that worked there went outside to tell a MAN happy Mother's Day. The cafe had flies EVERYWHERE. Had I noticed that before we ordered, we wouldn't have stayed. Don't order the biscuits and gravy - the worst I've ever had. Also we sat in the first table inside the door (literally less than 5 feet from the door) and they insisted we put a mask on to take 3 steps to our table when there were only 2 people dining inside at least 10 feet away from our table. Ridiculous. I'll never go back. It's too bad they survived covid, I know a lot of better restaurants that didn't. read more

OK, I had some complaints. I don't like seeing flies in a restaurant with walls, especially in November. But I saw three persistent flies. Still, I tried to like the place, so I pretended they were baby hummingbirds. Pretty, baby hummingbirds. That birth maggots. And, while the Potato Mess was a great dish, and a cool 60s dance if I'm not mistaken, the bacon in the dish is assumably baked because it is soft and crispless. I know it has "bake" right in the name, but soft, limp bacon is not appetizing. They should do one of three things: add crispy bacon to this dish, which is essentially a loaded baked potato quiche, after it cooks, or put it on the side. Or add "soggy and suicidal" bacon to the item description. That said, the busy workers provide great service, the menu had lots of interesting choices, the portions were big, and the prices reasonable. Bonuses for having a parking lot, community events posted in the window, and a loose Sunday paper on the rack outside so I could read "Ask Marilyn" in Parade while waiting, even though surprisingly nobody has yet asked her, "In the age of Google what makes your article relevant?" PS. If management reads this, I saw a party come in, look around, and leave. Another person, who inadvertently jumped line, was politely kicked out of a seat. I think a "Sign your name" sign at the door would fix both problems! read more

I was in the mood for breakfast for lunch. I wanted somewhere quick, tasty with a reasonable price point and of course, coffee. I came across Sunrise Cafe on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I scored a parking space right in front (street parking) so that was a bonus. The location is small with a few tables and a bar sitting area. The waitress lets you know to sit wherever you like, and I happily sat at the table near the window to watch the cars as they drove by. The service was good, the staff was friendly, the coffee was hot and the food came out in about 15 mins. I saw that they also make Mexican food so I asked for salsa and that also had a good flavor. I had the Apple Sausage with eggs and it was delicious and filling! Will be back in the future. read more

Waffle special Service: I stood by the entrance not bing acknowledged long enough for me to wonder if they think I was with another party or just didn't like me. Once seated, my order was taken and drink came quickly (+). While I was waiting, the table nearby got their hit drinks. One was wrong and the server quickly said it would be free and went to make the correct drink. I really liked this attitude. Ambiance: I really liked the old fashioned feel of the restaurant. It looked family ran, with older decorations, booth seating and stools at the counter (these were off limits when I visited) Food: Bacon overcooked Waffle too cakes Over easy egg was slightly overcooked, but the yolk was still runny Will not order this again. read more

This what happened, we came in at about 11 on Covid Sunday. The waiters changed twice when a waiter finally came. My partner got his order and I saw mine get delivered to another table. No one noticed that I was sitting at the table without breakfast. My partner spoke up just as the waitress was receiving a complaint from the other table. Anyway after all was fixed I wanted to express the gracious approach from the owner. She fixed and repaired my agitated state and really did a phenomenal job at repairing a breakfast gone awry. Where should I start... I first remember when I was a little kid my mom would take me to meet with my grandpa for breakfast I loved going and everyone was so nice the place was always packed !! It gave off that small home town vibe that made you feel like family when you walked in the door. I took my Daughter there recently after not having gone for over 18 years yes the owners have changed shoot the whole inside is different I ordered my normal bacon hash browns and eggs food was great just not a lot of people and I feel their was an disconnect with staff they were nice but different they weren't annoying at all just kinda felt like the bar minimum I guess I was used to people talking and laughing with staff and it make you feel like home I hope it can get back to that I hope more people will come in maybe with more traffic staff will snap out off it and make work feel as they we just at home serving gust they invited over to make memories with.... With all that said come down and support the small business let's show them how it used to be and how it can be I know a lot of mom and pop family business are struggling right now so let's change it if we can read more

Wanted to find a breakfast diner off the beaten path and this was it! Definitely a "locals favorite" vibe in here. It is about a 5 mile (10 minute) drive from the boardwalk. Regular breakfast diner fare - pancakes, bacon, eggs and more. My husband got the breakfast hash which he complained there wasn't enough meat in, but was otherwise good. The kids devoured a mountain of pancakes. The coffee was strong enough to make your hair stand on end and they serve it with real cream, so thats a plus too. First time here ..... Before I start they were Friendliest people EVERYONE .large group Mostly children "eye roll" you know how that can be lol . Food came out fast which is helpful when dealing with my crew . Now having said that The food was ....sigh it was ok . One out of five people were happy with the good . This little diner sits in a small strip of businesses in a small town just outside of Santa Cruz. The menu has all your traditional breakfast favorites including pancakes, French toast, and plenty of egg scrambles. We stopped in early one morning while waiting for a nearby business to open. Sticking with the basics I got the waffle special (one egg, two sausage links, and a homemade waffle). The waffle was nice and fluffy on the inside with the slight crunch on the outside. Sunrise Cafe gave us a cozy spot to relax after getting off the highway and kept us full until lunch time! I'm visiting from out of town and needed a place to eat breakfast at that would accommodate my dietary needs as I'm on the whole 30 diet and all I'd be able to eat at my hotel is boiled eggs and fruit. Saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I explained that I can't have grains or dairy and they made me a very tasty omelette that complied with these rules. Don't let the original decor sway you into thinking this place may not be good......trust the locals, they are never wrong. My test for breakast joints is always the corned beef hash. The menu states homemade and it was. The corned beef was finished crispy on the table top......just the way I enjoy it. Potatoes or hash, whichever you like to call were seasoned perfectly and not too hard, large or soft. Fresh green onion which perfected the plate. Did I mention I also ordered 2 eggs over medium? This place looks like a throw back -- very cute! We came right around 7am. It was sleepy. The service was very friendly. They brewed good coffee -- not weak, not too bitter. I had the veggie scramble which was very tasty and I love that they offer fresh salsa with it. My hubby had the Bavarian sausage scramble which was also good.
