This bar is awesome. Must be one of the very few good memories I have about Chicago. It's very old school and you would hear some stories here. The crowd is mostly blue collar boomer workers former or active. Lots of bikers. You get the idea.. The owner is from Serbia if I remember correctly. He would come down to the bar to partake in conversation and pour shots on the house and we got along very well. The food is Eastern European flavor and amazing. Live long Sunnyday Tap. Came here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the food and the staff. Super delicious but gigantic so come hungry. Only took off a star cause they don't have any draft selections. Would definitely be back but share a dinner or plan to eat it for days ha ha. Bartender was super friendly and helpful as were the regulars there. Ever been to one of those "theme" restaurants where there are a bunch of colorful characters on hand and the waitress makes fun of you for not finishing your vegetables? Sunnyday Tap is not quite like that. However a visit here gives one the impression that everyone inside knows each other and they are very boisterous because they do know each other. My gal pal and I were glad to have each other as company as we visited as outsiders. It was Friday evening, but honestly I was surprised at the sizeable crowd here. I ordered a plate of cevapi, little sausages that I have enjoyed under various names and formats in several Eastern European countries over the years. Coupled with a side of fries, some that were almost as long as the plate was wide, the pile of cevapi formed a good and filling dinner. My gal pal ordered a Serbian burger, which also comes with the really long fries. She originally ordered the large burger, which seemed to alarm our kind server. Based on that reaction, she ordered the small burger instead and that seemed to be a better choice as the small was quite large enough. The burger patty comes with a basket of bread, which can become the bun or can be eaten loosely. We had also ordered a burek to split, but alas were told that there were no burek, at least on this particular Friday evening. I have a feeling the burek could be quite tasty. Besides the food and drink, we enjoyed the people watching (and dog watching, in the case of one woman bringing in her little mascot-like dog) and the selection of loud music ranging wildly from Mettalica to Glenn Campbell to Celine Dion. I imagine that if I had a home repair problem, someone in the crowd probably would be able to fix it for me. Amongst the crowd one amiable Irish fellow came over to chat us up, and he was really Irish as opposed to a bright green dyed river Irish wannabe. Somehow we earned a bonus round of drinks from one of the characters (he said he requested the Celine Dion cut for our table ha), as he generously bought a round of drinks for the house. Sunnyday Tap is a bar full of regulars, but my impression is that none of these regulars are local. One Irishman walked up to my table and shared that he lived in Park Ridge but worked in the area. Even though everyone was dressed in casual attire, you could tell some of it was on the pricier side. The Irish guy worked in demolition, and a handful of other guys were sporting Carhartt clothing, also pointing towards the idea that they had careers in some kind of outdoor setting. Another man's haircut stood out as either ex-military or off-duty police, or both. My visit was on a Friday evening. The bar did not look like it served food at all and I immediately asked the waitress if they were serving food. I think my friend and I were the only two people eating there. The burek Yelpers speak of was not available. The waitress said that the cook did not make it on this particular evening. I'm beginning to wonder if eating here earlier in the day would be a better idea. My friend and I both ended up eating sausage with fries. My Serbian burger was delicious, I just wished I had more space in my stomach to sample more items on the menu. One of the regulars bought a round of drinks for everyone. That was sweet. In fact, when you walk in the bar for the first time, you'll hear the record scratch inside your head. You will see everyone size you up. I'm glad I wasn't alone during my visit. I have a feeling that a few of those men at the bar might have tried to take me home. One of the regular girls brought her pet Chihuahua, which got passed around amongst the regulars closest to her. He was so adorable in that denim jacket! I will be back, but it will probably be for lunch. I've never had burek! I can't wait to try it! read more

Serbian Local. Literal 'Norm!' style cheers for certain folk. Spirit selection includes Montenegro and other familiar drinks. Don't expect an umbrella in your drink or other "high-end" service. The MGD or Bud-light will be cold and half the folks in there will have a tiny plastic cup in front of them "backing them up" for their next drink. The food is house made for the most part or sourced from reliable butchers et cetera. The Serbian Burger is exceptional and comes with house-made bread that stands on it own Stands highly. The meat plates are just that and well done. Ćevapi is a must. The house made yogurt is damn fine too at $2 a pint. A Turkish style Serbian coffee will pick you up too. This place can be a $#it-$#ow at any moment and erupt in a antiquated misogynistic and xenophobic blathering that I have to walk out on. read more

Love this place, the food, the bartender, and the people who surrounds it. I work a couple blocks down and I need a place like this to unwind at the end of a hard day. They're always welcoming once you walk in. Sarah is an awesome bartender and Tomo is an awesome cook. Food is great for a quick fix and you will get stuffed. Love the neighborhood and the people that supports this place. I will continue to bring new people to this bar. read more

Another solid, dive-y bar in a neighborhood chock-a-block with them. Came here with a friend, and while we paid a bit more for beer than standard around the area, they made up for it by giving us each two shots of whiskey for free while we were there, so it more than evened out. The menu and other reviews mention the Serbian food, but I was more in the mood for a burger, which was quite good and only $5. Several times the place erupted Cheers-style into applause when someone came in, which suggests this place has a solid cast of regulars who frequent it on the weekends (or more). There's also a little dining area in the back, which was almost completely vacant while I was there. Only downsides are that there is no tap (at least I didn't see one), and I can see where it would be slightly on the intimidating side for newcomers. But it's a nice option for the area. read more

Awesome dive atmosphere and fair prices. This place is within stumbling distance from my house. The decor is divey yet modernized. The bar goers are all very friendly and seem much less sketchy than Laurel Tap. The bartenders are attentive and nice. There's not much of a liquor selection but for a dive bar I wouldn't expect "artisanal" whiskies or craft liquor selections.. I'll definitely return! read more

I love Serbian food and people. Like Serbians, I am Orthodox too. The food at Sunnyday Tap was very good! Loved the cevapcici! However, when we first walked in we headed to the back to sit at a table in the dining area. The waitress forewarns us not to put on the juke box as the regular drunks seated at the bar didn't want their Jeopardy TV program interrupted. OK! We weren't looking to hear any music, we didn't know there was a juke box and we've never been to Sunnyday before. Weird! The black lacquer chairs were so dated in the dining room. It would be far better to make the restaurant look European in an ethnic way than trying to make it look glamorously 1980's. Just saying. Afterwards, we asked the waitress for dessert, her immediate reply was the chef didn't feel like making the rolled up and filled Serbian pancakes. So we looked at each other in dismay. We were two (2) average guys sitting quietly and eating. Feeling intimidated and unwelcome, surely it wasn't how we wanted to feel on our first visit here. Sadly, I am disappointed not in the food but by the odd way to treat customers. Very strange behavior. I too was here recently and saw Expo 76. First of all, that band rocked, but the bar prices were very reasonable, the staff was attentive, and the food was outstanding - A burger and fries for $5.00 with all the trimmings. I even asked if we could split a burger between my wife and I, and the cook made two separate plates with a half burger on each! Kudos for going the extra mile. This was the second time I have been to the bar and both times have been a treat. Great crowd and it seems like a lot of music, events and activites going on here. I think I found our new weekend haunt. read more

A great Serbian bar and cheap lunch. I discovered this place not too long ago and was surprised by how good and economical the food was. It is a small charming resteraunt with seating in the back and a dive bar in front. they serve both American and Serbian food and I am sure the Serbian food was as good as the American staples I had. This is a small business that is a pleasent alternative to large chains and bars that we find ourselved inudated in this day and age. read more

If you are vegan this is the place where you come to die!!!!!!! Order mix-grilled plate with fries and you will not be disappointed. you can add some Shopska salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and feta cheese) to help with digestion. cheese burek is a great appetizer when available (to be shared 3-4 people unless you want this to be your meal)!!! read more

I went here for the first time on Friday as one of my favorite bands, Expo 76 was playing. It's a great little neighborhood bar in an easy to park area. The main bar in the front has reasonably priced drinks and super friendly bar staff. The middle part is a Serbian restaurant, I'd like to go back to try the food as I have heard it is delicious and made to order. The back area is where the band was playing. It's a bit of a strange set up but, it works. I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back to see what other acts they have here. Friendly people, now they have entertainment. Almost every weekend. Serbian food great. And American food was great too. Hot wings are excellent. And cant beat price. Domestic beers. Are 3 bucks. I go to this bar several times after work on Friday evenings and have always had great service and a good time. But the past few times that I've stopped in on a Wednesday or Thursday evenings, it has been a completely different experience. The woman that worked these nights I can hardly understand when talking to her, I had to ask her name 3 times and I still am not sure if it's Salina or Sameena. Also, I have noticed that she charges different (higher and lower) prices for the same drinks for certain people. When I ordered a vodka and cranberry I was charged for the vodka and then extra for the juice (6.00) and the lady 2 people down from me ordered the same exact drink and only paid 4.00! And I watched, it was the same vodka, not a more expensive one. And then the man next to me she was talking to a lot and every time he ordered a beer she gave him a shot for free!!! (She says its on me) I really enjoy coming here but I just think you should know people are being taken advantage of. Instead of coming 2 or 3 nights a week I will only come on Friday nights for now on since that's the only time I've ever had good service and been treated fairly. read more
