I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with Pearl Dental has been so consistently negative…read moreacross my entire family that I feel obligated to speak up. All four members of my household have had disappointing or outright terrible experiences here. What is most concerning is how many glowing reviews exist, because our experience has been the complete opposite. It genuinely makes me question how accurate those positive reviews are. My own situation has been ongoing and extremely frustrating. In December 2025, Dr. Scott Pearl told me I had "baby cavities" and recommended filling them to prevent progression. I had no pain at all before those fillings. Immediately afterward, I developed severe dental pain that has only worsened over time. I returned for a follow up and was told everything looked fine, despite the fact that I was in significant pain. Now I am dealing with daily, persistent discomfort. To make matters worse, I have since lost my dental insurance, so I am stuck suffering until my new coverage begins. This entire situation was created by a procedure that I now strongly believe was unnecessary. This was not an isolated incident. About a year earlier, my husband and I were both convinced to get crowns. This had never once been recommended by our previous dentist. Since those crowns were placed, I have continued to experience sensitivity in those teeth. Looking back, I deeply regret agreeing to those procedures. My son's experience was just as concerning. He had fillings done for "baby cavities" and developed severe pain afterward. One of his fillings even fell out. Although it was replaced, he continues to have discomfort. Beyond the clinical issues, the billing practices are equally troubling. We were repeatedly reassured that our insurance would cover these procedures, even though we could not find Pearl Dental in network. We specifically asked multiple times. Despite those assurances, I am still receiving bills from procedures done two years ago. This raises serious concerns about transparency and whether proper insurance verification is being done at all. At this point, I fully expect to receive additional bills for the December 2025 procedures as well. Yes, the staff is friendly. But that does not make up for what feels like unnecessary dental work, poor outcomes, and misleading information about insurance coverage. I would never recommend this practice to anyone. I regret ever going here. I am counting down the days until my new dental insurance starts so I can have this work properly evaluated and corrected.

Perhaps the xray person, dentist, and hygienist are capable, but I think they talked me into having…read morean expensive procedure I didn't need and then the desk lady tried to charge me for additional things I didn't want. First problem - I'm on Medicare, which they don't accept, and United Healthcare, which offers a Dentegra discount at Aspen Dental. The lady at the desk refused to know anything about a discount (even though it's on their website) and I had to look it up on my phone to show her. Finally, that was approved. The Xray person took 20 Xrays in addition to a full head scan and stuck a camera in my mouth to take photos, which seemed a bit excessive. The dentist (Dr Kim) seemed nice but insisted I needed scaling and root planning. The finance person said that would cost $1542 after the discount. She said it was a one-time procedure and I wouldn't have to do it again. I was skeptical but made another appointment because the hygienist wasn't working that day. Supposedly the entire procedure was going to be done in one day, but the hygienist only did the right side of my mouth, and I had to make another appointment for the left half. The desk lady said the entire procedure would cost $1742, which I complained was not the original estimate. They were going to charge me $200 more for an electric toothbrush and a water pick that I didn't want. I told them to take that off and got the price back to $1542. I paid $730 for that visit. I went back 4 days later to get the left side done. The desk lady said I had to pay $812 up front before the work could be done. I said I've always paid for doctor and dentist visits after the work, but she insisted so I paid it. The hygienist did the left side and said I was supposed to come back in 4 months. When I went to schedule the next appointment, the lady said I would have to return every 3 or 4 months and it would cost $413 for each cleaning. I can't afford that and insisted on a 6 month appointment and the regular maintenance cleaning for $223. A week later, I got a bill in the mail for another $148. When I tried to phone the office, I got a voice mail. It's been several days and no one has called back. I do not intend to pay the bill and I will be canceling the next appointment. Even if the dental care is good, the outrageous charges and customer service is awful. There are 4-5 ladies at the front desk and they mostly stare at their computers and ignore the patients. All those cute motivational signs around the office don't make up for the fact that, at least at the Hamden, CT office, the practice is run by liars and cheaters.

Knowing how long it had been since I had been in, and that they would not be willing to give me x rays due to pregnancy, and that they would not do a cleaning without x rays, they none the less still scheduled me for the cleaning and then pulled a bait-and-switch after I arrived. The dental hygienist told me they could do a "light exam" which she proceeded to make sound like would include some degree of cleaning. And then we could do x rays and the remaining cleaning procedures in a follow up visit after baby came. In reality, the light exam consisted of the dentist sticking her finger in my mouth for a few seconds--she didn't touch or look at any of the tools and i'm not convinced she even examined my teeth--and then lectured me for 15 minutes with generic advice with no comments on my actual dental health. I presume she did just enough to charge my insurance as if they had actually provided me a service, without committing fraud. In hind sight it is clear there was no chance they would be doing any cleaning, despite what they presented to me. I would recommend finding someone else as I consider this dishonest and unscrupulous. I will be finding a new dentist.

He was still heavily medicated and tripped and stumbled his way out. I had to find a wheel chair on my own from the Yale office to get my sedated child safely to the car. Against my better judgement we took our youngest there too. I fully recognize that even using best practices there can be unwanted outcomes. When I expressed my concerns first to the nurse than the doctor that my child was reporting pain and was pounding on the arm rest to get them to stop or to acknowledge them and he was shushed and told to stop moving. Certainly there are limits to medication dosages and sometimes pain can happen. That is not the problem. Its the hubris and arrogance coupled with the gaslighting from staff. The reluctance to admit a complications. That is the problem. The doctor was better about it and had a reasonable explanation for every concern though was not apologetic/sympathetic that there were compications. The nurse was the real offender. Starting by saying my child was just being emotional. Minimizing this child's concerns and acting almost put out by my asking questions respectfully. Coastal has a nursing problem.
