We were…read moreinvited to a party nearby, so we were just looking for a nice place to stay close by that we could hopefully relax and enjoy while visiting friends in the area... Well we got so much more than we expected! Everything about this place is just stunning, the historic house, the meticulous gardens, the gorgeous Victorian gazebo, the private sandy beach, all of the spa-like amenities, the list goes on and on! We stayed in the Tower Room, which had a very comfortable bed and a convenient half bathroom. The main shared bathroom was well equipped with a multi-head shower, jacuzzi tub, and steam room! There is a beautiful roof deck with comfy outdoor furniture and a perfect view of the grounds and lake. We took the pedal boat out to the lake and swam in the crystal clear water! We lounged on the sandy beach and relaxed in the in-ground hot tub overlooking the lake! The breakfast was home-made by our amazing hosts, Roy and Claudette, and was delicious both days. After learning about my gluten allergy on the first morning, Roy specially prepared gluten-free Belgian waffles for us on the second morning! They were absolutely delicious and I was so overjoyed that they went out of their way to make a special breakfast for me! The house was immaculate and we had everything we needed and more. We booked this B&B as a convenience, however we ended up with a totally rejuvenating experience. We were able to relax, refresh, and reconnect. In the future, Chateau du Lac will be a weekend getaway destination for us! I really cannot recommend it highly enough. Roy and Claudette were unbelievable hosts and I very much hope to be back to visit them and their wonderful bed and breakfast very soon!

I need to rave on the service. I've been to Castle Hill during peak and off seasons, and I have no…read morecomplaints. However, my review is stemming from the service Ingrid gave me. Ingrid was FANTASTIC. I have a shellfish allergy, and while Castle Hill, despite very obviously being known for their incredible marine menu, has always accommodated me, never in my life have I felt so well taken care of in terms of allergies. Ingrid asked questions, checked in on any shared dish, and was the right kind of attentive. Being in hospitality my whole life, this is the kind of work ethic and care you reward. Another name to mention is Carly. We came on her first day just this week and she was extremely attentive and eager. She was up for the challenge (serving my family, lol) and was incredible. Castle Hill is not only an institution, but a Mecca of great hospitality. So happy with the people here every time I come.

The Bohlin is an impressive location and I was glad to experience an event there. Was not at all impressed with the service, ever, especially for a special event venue catering largely to weddings where service is everything. To be clear, it was a brunch buffet, not a sit down meal. That said, it was Mother's Day. Tables were set beautifully. Server brought us water, nothing else. If we wanted a cocktail, we had to stand at the bar and get it ourselves. Coffee after lunch? Ditto. Brunches have multiple courses. We should have been given clean cutlery in exchange for the removal of a plate instead of being forced to lay dirty cutlery on a clean ivory tablecloth and then reuse them, again and again. That part was a total turnoff and not encouraging for anyone considering it as a future event venue. The food offering was varied and generally a success. The bacon was delicious and good quality. The frittata bites were a good and elegant option to the usual chafing dish full of scrambled eggs. Kudos to the chef for the beef sirloin although at $95 a head, one might have expected a carving station over sliced beef steaks piled into a chafing dish that just dried out the beef over time. The accompanying horseradish cream was quite good. Everyone seemed to really love the raw bar and raclette station. The desserts were well curated , not just slabs of sweets on the table. The pasta dishes? Meh. The cacio e pepe was nothing more than a runny version of the mac and cheese from the kids table with some pancetta or proscuitto specks in it. Fairly tasteless. Location was wonderful but at that likely price point for a private event, I thought the experience was mediocre. Looking forward to going back to Castle Hill instead.

There is a nice, cool, pool that the kids absolutely loved playing in. The campground is also pet friendly as long as you are in an RV or at a campsite. They don't allow pets in the cabin. That wasn't an issue for us this time, but it's something to consider if you are planning on traveling with pets. The cabins themselves are fine. Nothing extraordinary and nothing to nitpick about the structure. We only had a few issues. The first was with the AC. It was set to the lowest temperature, and it still couldn't keep the room cool. Granted, we came during a heat wave, so it's probably not so bad when it's just in the 80s or lower and the humidity isn't so high. The other issue was the mattresses on the bed. They were like prison mats. So uncomfortable, and even a two inch mattress topper didn't help. If you're a young person, then it probably isn't such a major problem, but if you are over 40 or have back pain, then you definitely want to avoid these cabins or plan to bring something that may help to make it more comfortable. The last issue is the cost. We stayed for two nights, and it cost over $300. My wife booked the cabin without my knowledge, so we were stuck with it, but for that price we could have stayed in a really nice hotel with amenities and towels and all of the things that are typically provided. In these cabins, there is toilet paper, a bath mat, and a couple of trash bags. You have to bring all of your own linens and towels. You also need to bring all of your own toiletries. And if you want coffee in the morning, either plan to bring a small machine and your own coffee, or you can take a 10-15 minute trip into one of the nearby towns. So, for the price and all things considered, I would not recommend booking a cabin here. The RV and campsites seem fine, and our in-laws paid a little less than half of what we paid for their RV site, so I would recommend it for that purpose.

WARNING, this is kind of long. Sorry!…read more Despite the fact that I had email and text confirmations of my brunch reservation, there was no reservation found upon arrival. Yikes. This was a birthday treat for my friend. But we were seated at a nice table and the host said there was plenty of room. The waiter was great. Took our beverage order and invited us to browse the brunch. Before we got up the host returned and asked if our seating was okay because we were near an outside door. We said it was fine, didn't bother us at all. When we returned from the brunch offerings, the waiter asked us if we were comfortable and if everything was okay. Yes, it was fine! Just as we began to eat, another man came over and asked if everything was going well. Sure, we said. Then he said we would need to be moved to another table because they were expecting a large crowd. Seriously? So, our plates were picked up and off we went. He told us to wait until the table was cleaned off despite another table right next to it being all set up. Now things aren't so fine as the food is getting lukewarm and I feel like I'm disappointing my friend. Fortunately, the food was excellent, and we were able to go back to replenish our plates. We paid the bill and as we were leaving, we saw the original space where we sat was still empty. No big crowd. Waters edge needs to dot their I's and cross their T's and communicate among themselves much better than they did today. An excellent restaurant might've offered to comp the one Bellini I had. The food and waitering was quite good. Otherwise, the attitude and approach was subpar.
