We love this place! After reading terrible reviews only after we had already booked Memorial Day weekend I was apprehensive about staying here. I am not any more. Every person that we have dealt with has been kind and polite and helpful. It is a nice quiet place, not for kids and for us old folks that is just fine. They do not allow tents and every site has sewer. The swimming pond with its fountain is cute and there is a catch and release pond. Saturday night they had guys playing cd's of music that we enjoyed and yet it wasn't overpowering. This is probably my favorite campground in my brief 2 year experience in camping but I will definitely be back. It is just what we look for, quiet, woodsy and relaxing. We are experienced RV campers (40 years) so we've been around the Country with our 5th Wheel. When we arrived at Countryside RV Campground we were very pleasantly surprised at the woods setting and the distance between each campsite. What we expected to be a few nights stay turned into 3 months. Before we left, we signed up to be yearly seasonal campers and we will be heading there from FL this week. We are excited to be going back and staying all summer long. Big rigs are easily accommodated. Sites are full hook-up, most are 30/50 amp. Wi-Fi but no cable. We enjoyed many aspects of Countryside RV Park. The owners are friendly and helpful as are many of the seasonals. The sites are some of the largest we've seen in over 10 years of camping - some are just enormous. When we asked the owner about this, he said they closed the place down a few years back and redesigned many of the sites, enlarging them. They also made the decision not to allow tenting, as they had had some out of control people in the past. In any case the place is now spacious, very quiet and geared for the older set. Kids and young families will be comfortable here but be aware there is not a lot to do on property. There is a small playground, a swimming area in one of the ponds that no one would use (very mucky) and lots of room for bikes and games on the grass. There is no large social room (the one they have is pretty small and not used for much). They do have a lovely veranda with rockers, and a nice outdoor seating area near a fire pit. Scheduled activities are pretty random/scarce. We were there over Labor Day and the only thing going on was a cute little concert by some of the seasonals. Relaxing and fun. The bathrooms are a bit basic, but clean. Sites are mostly level and a mix of open and wooded. Honestly, if you want a quiet laid back atmosphere, this rates pretty high. But I love to swim and we have family who like to join us (who have a tent) so for me I have to knock my rating down a bit. But we'd go back on our own in the spring or fall in a heartbeat! read more

I am a seasonal camper at Countryside and have been for 5 years now, if you check, the overwhelming reviews for Countryside, they have been positive and that's because the owners of this campground are fair and honest and make every attempt to keep the campground natural and pristene. Unfortunately their are always going to be people who like to take advantage and minipulate the situation to suit their own agenda. if you notice the majority of complaints here have nothing to do with Natural beauty, amenities and other things that are Important in having a nice camping experience. The complaints are focused on how someone wasn't treated fairly in their opinion, I suspect people like this often experience life as being unfair when people enforce boundaries. Give it a try for a night or two yourself, I love this campground, the owners have been nothing but kind and helpful. I am a very happy and satisfied camper!! read more

Make sure you go over the rules given by the owners one by one. Have them sign off because the owners will ok something and weeks later they deny it. Spent 4 years as seasonals, including two winters, and all of a sudden the owners send us a demand letter to remove everything off the site. It wouldn't be so bad if other sites didn't have planters, knic knacks, decks and more! Talk about discrimination. Just wondering who they have lined up for our site especially after WE paid for the winter water to be put in. Take your family somewhere else! read more

We needed a campground that was close to Mystic. With other places not available, someone suggested we try Countryside. We called, made the reservation. I was a bit hesitant as they didn't require a credit card or deposit to hold the spot. I called 2 days before arrival and they confirmed my reservation. First impressions of the campground was it is dated but well kept. The lobby area was a bit dark and not at all what you would expect as a camp store. The owner was pleasant and answered all my questions. She showed me on a map where my site was and said her husband was out and about so he would help guide us into our site. Somehow we missed him but we managed to get in ok. The sites are HUGE!!!! We were able to get a fantastic quiet site. Not very buggy. There were a lot of ant nests but nothing that disturbed us. The owner's husband stopped down to talk with us. Nice gentleman with a great story to share. He was saying how they didn't want to pack too many people in so the spots are spread out a bit to make it more comfortable. And it was. We had so much area for our kids to kick the soccer ball around. Close to the fishing pond. The grounds are well kept. There are no activities. So bring your own things to do. Our site was clean and very level. There is no pool and the swimming pond is just that...it's a pond but if you don't mind that type of water, it's not bad. The basketball area is a packed dirt/semi grassed area. The playground is basic but clean and cute. We found it super super buggy/gnats!!! We are used to having to get up early on check out day, pack quickly and get out by 11. At Countryside, check out isn't until 2pm!!! MAJOR PLUS!!!! So we were able to take our time, really clean up everything and relax. We will definitely come back. It is a quiet hidden gem. Being only 25 minutes from Mystic, there is plenty to do if you aren't staying put at your camper. Also a mile up the road is a great ice cream place. Buttonwood Farms. If you plan your trip for late July, you'll get to experience their vast sunflower farm. read more

We have camped for about 7 years now. This was our first time at Countryside though. The owners are very caring & treat you like a guest! (One seasonal couple greeted us and began a conversation & they are so happy here). We are a non-seasonal family who wanted a quiet stay, but also had the option of walking, hiking, swimming in one pond or fishing (catch and release) in another. The sites are beautiful and the largest we have seen. We have seen our share of undesirable situations. That is not allowed here. If you are into much entertainment and a busy campground, this is not the place. For true campers who want a well-run, extra clean campground (including bathroom facilities), peace and quiet and the ability to enjoy the natural beauty (and the children can still enjoy themselves) this is the place! For us, the experience is "getting away from it all"! We look forward to coming back! What a find! Perhaps the best kept camping secret in southeastern CT! read more

We have been seasonal with this campground for 2 years and we would never think of camping anywhere else. From the beautiful country atmosphere to the large spacious clean and well kept sites to the friendly and wonderful owners this is a wonderful place. Though it is true it is geared for the older crowd the children have space to play, ride bikes and the pond is a natural and safe place for swimming. We have met friendly people and have made some good friends. The campground is close by to many attractions, but if you want to get away from the everyday stress, hustle and bustle, then this is your destination. read more

This is a terrible place of business and one of the worst experiences I have ever had in the "business/customer" relationship world. If you are looking for a warm & happy environment, DO NOT GO HERE. My friend and her boyfriend had reserved a site here for the week and had invited my boyfriend and I to come down to visit for one night for a few hours to have a cookout. This campsite does allow dogs and my friend had brought hers along. My friend had also told the people at the office that she would have guests coming for a few hours and they would be bringing their dog, and was not given any trouble about it. My boyfriend and I put our Golden Retriever in the car and proceeded to drive two hours to the campsite. When we arrived, my friend came to greet us and told me that we would have to check-in at the office, as we were guests. I am a very friendly person and have always been very polite to everyone, whether personally or professionally. When I entered the office to check-in and smiled at the owner as my friend introduced me as her guest, the first thing she said was, "I HOPE YOU DON'T EXPECT TO BRING THAT DOG IN THE PARK". I was very confused, as was my friend. When my friend asked her why she had said that, the owner pointed to a white board behind her with VERY small print that said GUESTS CANNOT BRING DOGS. I apologized, as did my friend, for not knowing that, but my friend stated that she had been told it was OK. The owner suddenly began raising her voice and repeatedly stating that it was NOT ok. I tried to ignore her obvious attitude and calmly asked if I could pay for a site to rent for the night. The owner then began yelling at us and rudely asked me,"SO WHERE'S YOUR RV?". When I asked her why she was yelling, as we were talking calmly and weren't giving her an attitude, she then began screaming louder and stated that we wanted her to "bend the rules" which we had never asked her to do. I then stated to her that I was trying to figure out a solution as I had just driven two hours and it was difficult for me just to leave. My friend then asked if I could stay for three hours and leave my dog in her RV for the entire time. The owner then SCREAMED at us that, "There are people who pay to be here seasonally and you're just here few a few days. If I don't bend the rules for them, I certainly won't bend them for you!" When I again asked her why she was yelling, she then banged her fists very hard on the table. It was so loud and abrupt that my friend and I literally jumped a little. I then told her very calmly, that she was being unprofessional. She then screamed at me to "GET OFF HER LAND NOW!!". I still took the higher ground, didn't say anything to her, and walked out the door. My friend's boyfriend could hardly believe the story, went to talk to the owner, and basically received the same treatment. Needless to say, my friend and her boyfriend packed up that night and left. Though it's a campground, this place is still being portrayed as a business, and customers should never be treated in this manner. My friend and I never once raised our voices or acted rudely towards the owner. If this is the "welcome reception" that I received when I arrived, as a potential customer for the future if I had liked the site, then I certainly would never want to stay here. Do yourself the same favor. read more

Management leaves much to be desired. My husband and I went camping on Labor Day weekend. My daughter and her boyfriend came to join us on Saturday. I went into the office to tell them and was given a form to fill out. I didn't have the vehicle number. I asked her, if that was needed and right away, she started with the attitude. She stated that there are signs everywhere stating that visitors must go into the office and told me to read the rules before I arrive. I then have my daughter and bf come into the office and she tells me that it will be $40. I only questioned the rate since we were registered for two adults and two children and she then gets nastier and tells me that my daughter isn't my child and is an adult. She then proceeds to say, "I hate when people argue with me." I then replied that I wasn't arguing with her and was just asking a question. She then says, "to never argue with an owner!" She throws the rule pamphlet at me to read. I just put it back and told her that I would never come back here and she proceeded to say, "Good, I hope not". Really??!!! This is how you run a business and treat your customers!! I will never set foot at this campground again and will be sure to tell everyone I know to never go here!! I feel better seeing similar complaints with this nasty woman and not taking it to heart! read more

I'd have to say of all the years that my friends have rented out their site. (9+years) I thought this place was a great place to spend a summer up until today. Apparently rudeness trickles down the family tree with the owners. My husband and I had a great time until we were leaving being told to only go 5 miles and hour arriving and leaving. We drive a somewhat off road vehicle so it looked like we were going faster.. But I looked at the dial and saw it was only 5 mph. They owners son in a drunken daze with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth yelled at us to slow down. If we slowed down we would have just stopped. We continued to leave and stopped and the gate to be let out only still driving 5mph. When we hit the 10 mph of course accelerated a bit more. I guess the son told his mommy and daddy about the "incident" and my friends took the heat. Now I'm starting to realize why my friends, friends decided to end they're seasonal contact with this campground. So I suggest if your going to pay 3 grand for a seasonal site do not give them your hard earned money. read more

I just had my first taste of summer at Countryside due to a well-earned three day weekend. This place was awesome. The sites are very big and spread out, the landscape is beautiful, and the bath houses are incredibly clean. The owners are incredibly friendly, and go out of their way to be helpful. I was even impressed by my neighbors. It seems like everyone is friendly here. My family and I will come back again. read more
