Stayed here with my family from Saturday July 13th-Thursday July 18th 2024…read more Checked in at about 1:06pm. This was Melville Pond RV Park, but then switched hands to Newport RV park. Check in process was easy, However, we did have to move sites from 426 to 431 because we didn't fit. We also couldn't take out any tables or chairs had we stayed in spot 426. We have a long 5th wheel trailer with slides so, we need like lots of room. Luckily called the office and was able to switch spots. That seemed to work, and we had more room to set up our table and chairs. Once we completed set up, we tried to set up the tvs. For some reason, if you have a roku tv, don't expect it to connect to the internet, at least from the site we stayed at. Failed to connect several times, and we had to constantly rescan the tv channels because of all 78 channels only a few were coming in clearly. I found things to watch on my own, with the channels that came in properly like history. Anyways, campground was very quiet, and even with a nearby town dog park, it was pretty good, and quiet. Close to newport and about 30 minutes to Province. Overall enjoyed our stay.

The campsites while some newly graveled, not well I might add, are not level. The electric at my site kept tripping off. I finally discovered, with no help from the non-existent management, that the service disconnect breaker was bad. Luckily I had an extra 30A cord and was able to plug into the unoccupied adjacent site. How this abomination has any 5 star reviews is above my pay grade. Duringthe week we were here we never saw a camp representative. We were not welcomed by anyone affiliated with the campground and I never saw anyone on duty in the office. Our site had no picnic table and no fire ring and had areas dotted with clumps of gray fur. Obviously noone had inspected our site for cleanliness prior to our arrival. Our first visitor was a 4' rat snake. There was debris strewn all over the grounds. There was one trash container. Unlined and uncovered. No dog poop bags or signs regarding poop pickup. There was a lot of demolition but no new construction ongoing. The "pool" is a 4' deep square under construction and far from being completed. The "resort" signage was a joke. It took me 3 tries to find my way out of the campground. The entrance sign is installed parallel to the road rather than perpendicular to it for visibility. The number of decrepit or abandoned trailers on site was unbelievable. We were never told if the campground was under new management and/or under going refurbishment. In any event it was missing the mark. Unfortunately we paid for a week in advance so we were stuck here. NEVER AGAIN. I'm leaving this truthful review so no other potential campers are duped into staying here. Definitely an absentee owner who doesn't have a clue. Really too bad because the location and grounds have enormous potential. I will let Happy Grounds and RV LIFE know of my great disappointment and suspect reviews. By the way, to the reviewer who said they enjoyed the pool, THERE IS NO POOL. Their advertising is outright false, misleading and deceptive. DO NOT CAMP HERE.

The CG was clean and well kept, a nice dog park with agility tests, laundry was clean with enough W/D so I never needed to wait. The pool was warm and great for kids and sunbathers, showers clean and convenient to pool. I was concerned about no sewer but with pumping every 4th day I was able to use the W/D water in my motor home for small loads. The sites are spacious with grass and room for evening fires. There are lots of activity areas like bocce, mini putt... can't remember them all but I am sure they are listed. The staff were always very friendly, and always available. Manager was always around checking on guests. There are many seasonal guests who are very nice and helpful and they pride themselves in their site upkeep. The location is perfect for exploring the area. If we lived closer we would be back every year. It is a campground, not like the Sun Resorts in the West with paved sites and spiffy big rec centers. We really enjoyed our stay!

I setup during the day, and couldn't see the road through the trees. But at night, the noise from trucks is deafening. We were up most of the night. When I walked into the office the next day and told him my site number, the girl smiled and said let me guess you wanna switch sites ? So they know it's an issue. If you have just a tent, you shouldn't be placed there. I didn't notice that they squeezed quite a lot of people in other questionable spots, and I'm talking like 2 feet from the service road. So all night cars coming in and out of the back of the campground are driving right past people's tents, and again I mean like within 5 feet of a tent. Besides being a poor layout, that's just plain dangerous. So if you're going to go here, my advice is to pull up the site map, and make sure your spot is away for 995 and the service road ahead of time. The bathroom and showers were clean, but they're old so it's kind of grimy. Their playground looks good. They also have a big bouncy thing. Overall, I wouldn't stay here again unless I had a RV.

However, the rest of the place lacks updating and maintenance. The restrooms and showers are clean, except they're so old and dated that they appear to be dirty. The campground is in severe need of landscaping; we attached the photo we took of the slides and the one on their website. They look like they've been abandoned for decades. No restaurant, just an extremely expensive food truck with $22 cocktails. Honestly we had a pretty good time for what we paid and would have considered coming back, but the ultimate deterrent was our obnoxious neighbors. Loud music, crying babies, and barking dogs. I don't blame the campground for awful people, but I am upset that nobody addresses the dogs or screaming babies at 11pm when we couldn't sleep because of them. Friendly staff, everyone was super nice. Like I said, we had a good stay up to the part where the obnoxious neighbors ruined our whole weekend. It appears that a large majority of the campers are seasonal. There are a lot of amenities to enjoy although we missed out on some just because we went off season. Even though we were only there for the weekend we encountered all very friendly pets and people during our stay. I would definitely return during the regular season so I can get in that pool! Dunkin is in a Mobil full service gas station in nearby Richmond.

One was hiding in the bushes. The next day the father came to our site yelling and accusing us of ridiculous things. We were very nervous. They were glaring at us all day. We went to the ocean at night and came back to multiple chairs ruined. They tried to get into camper which was evident because locked handle sticking up. Security was great. The next morning a very young manager told us that he would write up an incident report. I told him security told us the tenters would not be back. The manager said that security should not have said that without checking with him. Felt it was more of a power trip than making us feel safe. Needless to say we left without booking next year. Gosh, where to begin? We were going to pass through CT to…read moremake it to PA to spend the night when our diesel truck started having serious problems. I quickly looked for a campground hoping they could take us, and that the truck could make it there. As we came limping in, Josh met us to help us quickly park. It soon became apparent, we were going to need a place to stay for several days. Doug, the owner, worked with us in every way, to ensure we were welcomed and would continue to have a place to stay while our truck was being taken for repairs. What a beautiful place to spend an unexpected week. The lake, hiking and amenities are amazing, but the best thing about Wilderness are the people! Saturday night Doug and his wife, Holly, hosted a gathering. We immediately felt right at home with so many friendly people, it was like a family gathering. We even won a gift card to a local restaurant!! We stayed for a week, and now we have a new favorite to add to our destinations! We really look forward to returning, only under better circumstances next time. Thank you Doug, Holly and Josh!!
