We didn't camp here but used the boat launch which we found easy to find and paved which was great! The water today required us to really scrub the residue off the boats which I have now learned is pond algae. You have to park your vehicle in the visitor area which is a nice walk although not very private for the campers that are located along the way.

A river walk Hopeville Pond State Park is a beautiful woody area that is located right on the Pachaug River. People have been using this river for a long time and a huge mill was constructed on it years ago and before than the Mohegan Tribe camped on it and took advantage of the bountiful resources. Today it's a campground and park for people that want to appreciate the beauty of the woods and river. Lots to do here, the campground has 80 sites and the river offers swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. There is also plenty of land to bike, horseback ride, hike or just walk among the trees and rocks. The roads and paths are well marked but it is easy to get lost if you get to adventurous and go off into the deep woods. The park has running water, relatively clean bathrooms and is quiet and peaceful. Even during the busiest summers months the people camping here are friendly, polite and you seldom see some the the debauchery apparent at other campgrounds. A cool park for people that want somewhere peaceful to camp, just go for a walk, or take advantage of the many activities that the river offers. People have been coming to this area for centuries and I suspect will continue to do so in the future.

This was canoe site #4 the morning of our last day before departure

In most of the camping I have done, people respect your camp area, and do not enter it.

We swam in the pool which was gorgeous and it was just us most of the time. At one point there was a gentleman and his young son. The pool has a ramp so that it is handicap accessible which really impressed me. There is also beautiful hot tub which has a wheelchair lift. Both very impressive and I have not seen this at other campgrounds. We arrived on Sunday evening and left on Wednesday. When we got there there was a tree in the middle of our designated site that did not allow us to open our slides so we had to get a new site assignment. They easily did that and we were backed up to a brook. It was lovely and the view of the pond was very nice. Unfortunately we also had a view of the back of the main house/office and the area where they worked on equipment. I thought that could've been fenced off. The site itself was raw with dirt and roots so it was rather hazardous and we did not put down our outside rug. I was afraid that we might trip. Also there was trash around the fire ring from the previous tenants and trash around the trees near the brook. Generally I think that was my biggest complaint with this place. The people were very nice and the grounds were nice. The playground was amazing and the variety of playground equipment they had was incredible. The pool and the hot tub or beautiful and I just wish that the sites were cleaned up more and maybe throw down some crushed rock. Definitely on my list of places to return to.

A lot of the campground has been updated although the restrooms could use some work. The pool and hot tub were clean and a nice respite from the hot weather. One caution is that the sites are very tight. We were fortunate in that the site across from us was pretty open when we backed in. With all of that said they are planning on adding additional sites which will hopefully be a bit more spacious. All in all a very nice campground.

After struggling to get our trailer turned around she puts us in a second tent site which we also did not fit in. After two more moves we got into a site where she tells us she is going to charge us the higher rate for the site because the one she finally put us in was $50 a night instead of what we were quoted which was $35. The campground doesn't have full hook ups at most of the sites and charge you for a weekly pump out and it's $15 for any additional pump outs. We requested the additional pump out and we're told no we can wait the three days for Friday which forced us to live in a trailer with a stinky over full tank! This place is being run into the ground , this past weekend we heard 4 or 5 arguments between customers and the manager because what they were promised and what they got were two different things! And no refunds not even when a hurricane knocks out water, power and trees down everywhere! Trash!

On the front porch of the office, there is junk and garbage all littered on the porch.... But the worst part of my visit was the bathrooms that are NEVER CLEANED BY ANYONE! Because there is no septic for the campers, using their bathroom was necessary.... One toilet was broken, two of the other toilets were loaded with feces. The shower stalls were loaded with bugs, as were the sinks. And then there was a sign on the garbage can in the bathroom stating "wipe down the showers after use "... like it's my job to clean their nasty bathroom. There was a bug in one of the sinks when I got there Friday, and it was still there when I left on Sunday afternoon. The grounds to this campground are not kept up at all, and they also had a bunch of dilapidated unoccupied campers on spots that looks like they've been deserted for years.
