Lots of waterfront camping space, but if you actually want to be able to sleep in on those hot summer mornings there's also lots of space in the wooded areas to camp. Everything was really clean upon arrival (as clean as it can be for being a camping area) and was kept as such throughout the weekend. Not an easy task when you have 500+ people traipsing around. There's two sets of restrooms (with running water) and the ones at the front also have 2 showers in each bathroom (mens and womens). The showers were much great, hot and good water pressure. There's also a concession area right as you arrive at the campground which carries smaller items (sunglasses, waters, etc) and are super reasonably priced. The only downfall is that you can't swim in the lake (at least not when I was there), but it's a bit murky so I'm not sure if one would want to. They do rent out paddleboats and canoes though for $50 a day with a $50 refundable deposit. There's also some pretty good fishing in the lake. One of my favorite things about this place was the fact that the owner, John, was always on hand. Interacting with patrons, making sure things were running smoothly. He really did a great job of making us feel welcomed. I'll definitely be returning next year :D

The campground itself is secluded and quiet. There are spots for RV and tent camping. Bathrooms are extremely clean and well kept. The lady that runs it is super nice, but don't speed on her grounds or she will destroy you. The lake is home to all kinds of wildlife and teeming with fish. The electric is severely outdated and the WiFi isn't strong enough to actually use it. Dogs are allowed to bark nonstop and if you complain be ready to be told "that's what dogs do". The upgrades to the campground are nonexistent but the upgrades shes made to her house that's on the same property are definitely noticeable. Just know your money isn't going into the campground it's going to her house. Just go to George Washington. It's right down the road. It's quiet, peaceful and clean. It doesn't matter what season you come it's always so clean here and just a relaxing place to be. It's well up kept which I appreciate and everyone who seems to come here has respect and I appreciate that. They do have a tennis court, place to go fishing ( not sure if it's legal or not but people do), a place to swim during summer time, a baseball field and a children's playground area. It's not huge but it's big enough for our little town. They do have a concession stand who's run by Bobby and he's pretty cool, he's really nice and has amazing prices. This place is like a sanctuary to me. The grass is always so nice and the Views are always amazing. They have a very small maybe 10 car parking lot beside the park where the tennis court is but if you follow the signs you can find the bigger parking lot. Give it a go, make memories for free.

We stopped by today to check out the playground, and it was such a nice little spot! There weren't many people there, so it felt open and peaceful. It's a smaller playground, but it has all the basics you need to let the kiddos play and burn off some energy. It was quiet. That's the best thing I can say about Gibson Hill after spending a week there…read more Totally unkempt and in disarray. The roads are a rocky, dusty rutted mess. The campsites while some newly graveled, not well I might add, are not level. The electric at my site kept tripping off. I finally discovered, with no help from the non-existent management, that the service disconnect breaker was bad. Luckily I had an extra 30A cord and was able to plug into the unoccupied adjacent site. How this abomination has any 5 star reviews is above my pay grade. Duringthe week we were here we never saw a camp representative. We were not welcomed by anyone affiliated with the campground and I never saw anyone on duty in the office. Our site had no picnic table and no fire ring and had areas dotted with clumps of gray fur. Obviously noone had inspected our site for cleanliness prior to our arrival. Our first visitor was a 4' rat snake. There was debris strewn all over the grounds. There was one trash container. Unlined and uncovered. No dog poop bags or signs regarding poop pickup. There was a lot of demolition but no new construction ongoing. The "pool" is a 4' deep square under construction and far from being completed. The "resort" signage was a joke. It took me 3 tries to find my way out of the campground. The entrance sign is installed parallel to the road rather than perpendicular to it for visibility. The number of decrepit or abandoned trailers on site was unbelievable. We were never told if the campground was under new management and/or under going refurbishment. In any event it was missing the mark. Unfortunately we paid for a week in advance so we were stuck here. NEVER AGAIN. I'm leaving this truthful review so no other potential campers are duped into staying here. Definitely an absentee owner who doesn't have a clue. Really too bad because the location and grounds have enormous potential. I will let Happy Grounds and RV LIFE know of my great disappointment and suspect reviews. By the way, to the reviewer who said they enjoyed the pool, THERE IS NO POOL. Their advertising is outright false, misleading and deceptive. DO NOT CAMP HERE.

The grounds are beautiful, the people were friendly and accepting of a newcomer. It's a nice place to undress completely and just become one with nature while enjoying natural freedom. The sauna was fired up, which added greatly to the whole day. If you are a naturist, you should check it out. Get comfy and become part of a community that accepts the freedom of clothes-free living. I may even join next year so I can enjoy life in a natural and comfortable way, relaxing the way I prefer, without judgement. Highly recommend anyone interested in naturism to go to Dyer Woods, step out of your clothes and into a liberating day of relaxation.

Went for first time last year (2024) to walk the trails as a newbie nudist. Traveled from…read moresoutheastern Connecticut, so about a 45 minute drive and well worth it. All the people are great. The trails and scenery are beautiful and going nude just made it that much more special. I volunteered with the Fall clean up and met more wonderful people. Returned this year (2025) a couple times. Enjoy the Fall time during the week. On my 10/7/2025 visit, the nice woman that checked me in said the sauna was open. I hadn't visited that yet. Went hiking the trails, sat in a lounge chair by the pool pond and read a few chapters of a new book, then decided to try out the sauna. So glad I did. After that took one more hike. I really enjoy Dyer Woods and will be coming back again and again.

We loved this place. We stayed the second weekend in June. Apparently that is before the season…read morereally starts because the kids are still in school. We got there on Thursday and it was so quiet and wide open. We figured that the weekend would not be quiet because families would be there with kids enjoying themselves. It was noisier but it still wasn't very noisy. Exception would be the dogs. There were a lot of big dogs making big noise. The trees are beautiful and the landscaping is truly amazing. They have landscaped every part of this campground and made the small attention to details really beautiful. Our campsite was very spacious and it was treed so we had shade and Sun. It was the quickest check-in that we have ever experienced. What really impressed me was that they drove around with a water sprayer more than once a day to wet down the roads and alleviate dust. There was a pirate ship that picked up children and drove them around the campground. There was a wagon ride around the campground. And you could put your trash out at one in the afternoon and they would come pick it up. I've never experienced that before. The campground is immaculate and very well-kept. The Wi-Fi is not so good but then again you were camping. We are definitely planning on coming back here.

I'm just extremely confused on why we still have these stigmas in 2025 and think it needs to be changed. Dogs attitudes are a product of the owners training. Just because a specific dog breed needs more stimulation, enrichment and training to behave correctly does not mean all dogs that belong to that breed are aggressive. Unless you have a golden retriever, i'd steer clear of this place.
