I wanted to love Sun Mountain Lodge, but ultimately, I don't think it's worth the money. We took advantage of a special where we stayed three nights for the price of two, and even with the discount don't think there is enough amenities at the moment to keep me on the mountain and make it worth the money. The good - The restaurant made it easy to get food without contact. You simply call in your order and they give you a time to pick it up from the pick up table. The food was good - would have been incredible in the restaurant and piping hot.The view from our room (Gardner building - room 114), was great. We saw deer almost everyday. And, the room itself was super cute. The bad Food: While the food was good, often times it was cold/luke warm even if it was picked up right when it came out. Cold eggs are gross. No orange juice (the bowl where it was supposed to be was always empty). Hiking: The hiking trails are not well marked. We followed one of the 'favorites' from the staff (directions included in the welcome packet) and at the fork in the road, there was no sign to tell us where to go. We went about a mile extra before we found the error on a map. Upon back tracking, we saw that the sign we needed to look for was behind us at the fork. The fork should be marked. Other Activities: They offer tennis, horse back riding, kayaks, two pools and two hot tubs. The pools/hot tubs are closed. We tried to play tennis, and they had rackets for rent, but they didn't have tennis balls so we didn't get to enjoy any of the amenities. Staff: Staff was minimal and not super friendly. I am from Eastern Wa and know the area. I don't think I'd stay again. I would just go for dinner in the dining room in the future when in the area. There isn't enough at the moment to keep me on the mountain (we drove to Winthrop everyday, about 15 minutes each way). There are other places to stay in Winthrop walking distance from town where there is a ton to do (float down the river, mini golf, restaurants, shopping). read more

Hubs and I have been here a couple times. We choose the Mt. Robinson rooms when we come. The rooms are comfortable. We enjoy the fireplace, large bathtub, and balcony. The view is incredible! I appreciate the upgraded coffee options with the Nespresso machine. One thing to note, you're out in nature so there's going to be a bug/insect of some kind in your room. It's not the housekeeping being sloppy. It's part of being in a location like this. In May, there were loads of flying ants on the deck outside and a spider inside. In October, it was a cricket in our room trying to escape colder weather. We killed the bugs, cleaned it up, and it wasn't a big deal at all but something to be aware of. I will mention that I feel it's gone downhill since 2022 when it was sold. The new owner has allowed the restaurant to go SERIOUSLY downhill. I've never had truly terrible, absolutely disgusting food at any restaurant until now. Feel free to read the reviews I left on the restaurant yelp listing. Our trip here in 2021 had delicious food so that's been a huge change and was a major disappointment. They've also added a resort fee that never used to be there. I've never understood resort fees except that it seems to serve to sneak attack expenses on your guests. Not cool at all. Just charge what you need to charge for the room in a straightforward and transparent manner. It will be respected and appreciated far more than stupid resort fees. I wouldn't even call this place a resort. There was no one playing the grand piano in the lobby. No fire going in the library or game room. We waited a long time to be seated for our dinner reservation and then they didn't give us menus. As I said, the restaurant was so bad I won't go there again even if we do come back for the rooms. It felt like a lot of the specialness was gone. We found a pair of glasses in our room that housekeeping had missed. We had one adult robe and one child robe in our room. Little things but they all added up to an experience where I'm honestly on the fence about returning. If I did come back, it would only be when I found a great deal on the room and when I was CERTAIN the restaurants in town were open for meals because you 100% can't eat at the restaurant on site. If your visiting Winthrop Washington or driving thru and want to go on a horse trail ride Sun Mountain Lodge is the place to go. They welcome anyone to enjoy the beautiful trails on beautiful horses. This has to be one of the most beautiful scenic rides I have ever been on. Not at all boring. Red is the owner and trail ride guide. She is interesting and just a wonderful person. I can't explain in words how beautiful this place is. It's like being on top of the world. Clouds mirror the lakes below and the wild flowers were exploding. On visiting a resort in a time of plague... The lodge had multiple visitors but it felt subdued and empty. Merriment was not a word I would use to describe the hushed voices and masked faces (indoors and out, day and night). It was not funereal, but more like being at a library. Families were having fun, but there was a quiet gravitas to their enjoyment. Some might say it's wrong to indulge in leisure and recreation while so many are dying, but I think the opposite is true. The dead would want life to carry on, including the savoring of it--the only thing that gives it any meaning. Ordering dinner was a bit complicated, but there is a system for it. We ordered our meal by phone, made a reservation to pick it up at a certain time, then went downstairs to find our room number sharpied on a large brown paper bag. We fetched our dinner bag and walked through a large, darkened, empty room to a lovely outdoor dining area that no one else had discovered. Inside the bag we found plastic utensils, paper plates, boxes of our food and drinks. I can honestly say this is the first time I've eaten a $40 meal out of a box, off of paper plates with plastic knife and fork. While it lacked some of the elegance of a sit-down dinner, I really enjoyed the experience, the solitude, the surprise of opening the bag, and having the freedom and independence to choose my own dinner spot and not need to be tended to by wait staff. The food was excellent, by the way. I won't bother detailing it for you, since their menu rotates. The dining staff were very kind and accommodating; the world has changed. We're all muddling through it together. All I can say is that I wish I could eat this way in public for the rest of my life! ...At least in summer when you can dine al fresco. I'm not usually a lodge man, but this is a classy place with homespun atmosphere. More importantly, it has beautiful grounds to stroll and the perfect location with 360 degree panoramic views of the surrounding desert hills, including views of Patterson Lake. The trails include a lovely, shady little beaver pond, the lake and the mountain top.. While the location and atmosphere were excellent, both in public spaces of the lodge and in our clean, spacious room, it was frustrating that there were some conveniences lacking that I would expect in a five-star resort. The room had no TV, no stationary, no frige (not even a mini) and no microwave...but did have a coffee maker. While there was a small, token ice bucket, we had to go up to the third floor to find an ice maker--requiring multiple trips. These are items that even a Super 8 on the side of a highway has, and it would have been nice to be able to chill our own beverages (especially given the 100+ degree heat) and preserve and re-heat the leftovers of our expensive dinner. And while we didn't come here to watch TV, it would have been nice to at least be able to check the news or weather before retiring to bed. I also was puzzled that they had no stationary, something I use quite often on my travels, and again an item one finds at even the dumpiest motels. The interiors echo the upscale "log cabin" feel, with a Roosevelt-like collection of dead heads on the wall. Nearby wall-mounted placards make the rather disingenuous claim that the lodge doesn't support hunting and the heads are for educational purposes only because they were purchased from a collection. Well, somebody had to kill them right? Merely displaying them is tacit support of the means used to obtain them. I don't think most animal rights people will be pleased by these attempts to--no pun intended--head them off at the pass. But I was pleased! If Teddy Roosevelt had been more into lounging than hunting, he would have loved Sun Mountain. It offers a full range of tchotchke shops with their logo on various souvenir items, massage therapy, and other relaxation benefits. For the more active-minded, the lodge rents 2-person kayaks down at Patterson Lake, mountain bikes and has horsey rides from their own stables, which we hiked down to and said hello to an ill pony while his friends were out pasturizing on some hay in the fields. Out on Patterson Lake you can see desert on the right and forest on the left, a fit visual reminder of the fact that the Winthrop area and Methow Valley straddles the border of the Cascade Mountains and the desert on the other side of it. read more

Gosh, what a gorgeous location. The Lodge is very nice, a great getaway. Our room reservation was messed up by Expedia, but the front desk made it right. (Thank you!) The rooms are very dated but comfortable. The bathtub drained ridiculously slowly. Apparently the rooms don't have TV. I know that sounds lame, but we really like to wind down with a movie from our fire stick and so this was a miss for us. We rented the e-mountain bikes and had a blast. Sun Mountain Lodge is our favorite all season lodge. We have been lucky to visit in both the spring/summer and winter. All of our trips have been wonderful. We first visited in August of 2020 to celebrate a special occasion. We have been back 4 times since then and have another visit planned this December. In the summer we enjoy the use of the pools and hiking trails. In the winter we love the well maintained snowshoeing trails. Every visit we have soaked up the breathtaking views. We opt for the Robinson Suite that includes a beautiful view and soaking tub. We have had lunch and dinner in the restaurant and have enjoyed it. I have forgotten how much I absolutely hate staying here. You literally struggle to get anything to eat here - they don't have enough dining room staff or enough hours to accommodate the large number of people staying here. And the food is terrible. This is also 15 minutes from town up a dark and windy mountain road, making it difficult to get anything to eat around here. So, we were spending the weekend camping for Labor Day weekend in Winthrop, and we were told to go to this place by multiple people, " it is awesome ". Even by some locals!! Drove all the way up to find out there was only 2 tables on the outside with a view! So were put on the side with a view of some trees. Not sure what we were expecting, but totally disappointed. Had a beer, and left. Nice lodge, with stuffed animals to view, and the 10 mile drive was nice. Expensive, but maybe it would b better if u stayed there. Basically two hours wasted. read more

I have to be honest- when I first read that Sun Mountain Lodge was listed as one of Fodor's top 100 hotels in the world I was skeptical. After spending the weekend here I now see that they earn every bit of that award! The rooms are incredible! My husband and I stayed in the Robinson building and we had a fireplace, huge whirlpool tub, vaulted ceilings and the most comfortable king size bed EVER. The property grounds are beautiful and well manicured but also natural looking. Tons of wild flowers, greenery...it's all so beautiful! I stayed in a Mt. Robinson suit for 2 nights, with breakfast included. What an incredibly beautiful destination and an amazing accommodation! The room was spotless, spacious, well equipped, with a breathtaking view. The receptionists were very friendly. The breakfast options were abound and delicious. There are so many beautiful hikes nearby. During this time of the year (mid-May) the area is stunningly beautiful: everything is covered in bright yellow and lavender colored flowers, there are mountain lakes and snow peaks. This place... fantastic. We stayed in one of the Patterson Lake cabins, which were fine. But the setting is beautiful with the lake just steps outside your door. I do a lot of landscape and wildlife photography so it was nice to walk out in the morning and bag an Osprey grabbing a fish out of the lake within the first 5 minutes. I'd like to go back and stay at the main lodge up the hill. The grounds are beautiful. The setting is phenomenal as the lodge sits atop a hill/mountain with sweeping and unobstructed views. There are lots of hiking trails right on the property which is so nice after a meal. If you go, book a table in the dining room well ahead of your stay and make it for around sunset. This was a real gem during a 10 day trip through Washington State. read more

Save your money! This place is a hot mess and it was disappointing from start to finish. The rooms are comfy but small and overcrowded with furniture. They badly need an update. Found a half used Mr. Clean eraser in the tub and the shower curtain was terrible. Much too narrow so it gapped by several inches and allowed a terrible draft. Overall NOT a $277 dollar room. Unfortunately this was suppose to be a special, 10 yr anniversary surprise and my husband had the hardest time. There seems to be no discernible management around and it shows. He'll write his own review about challenges he experienced with reservations and paying upon checkout, this is my experience. Every person we encountered, both at the desk and in the restaurant, seemed so unhappy and unwelcoming. At one point my husband tried to prepay for wine and have cake plates in the room for after dinner and the desk clerk said it was a concierge job and she left early. Not even offering to help or find someone who could. Also want to note here that on a busy Saturday night I didn't see one person who looked like hotel or restaurant management. Nobody interacting with patron or working to ensure a smooth evening. We had 7:15 dinner reservations and the restaurant and bar were SO crowded. We tried to ask about just getting drinks and the bartender blew us off and said there was a wait. She didn't even take the time to acknowledge my question. I was frustrated to find out others were getting drinks and taking them into rec areas when I was ignored and turned away. We decided to wait by the restaurant since it was getting close to seating time. Or so we thought. The restaurant was so overrun and understaffed that there was a 55 min waitlist and all reservations were seating late. Oh, except for one couple who had a reservation time after us and had been waiting less time. They got seated before us. Awesome! I overheard a lot sitting in front of the hostess station. Needless to say the restaurant was not being managed appropriately. 15 minutes after our reservation we got a table. Sat for 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us or offered drinks. Our server was busy so finally another came over. Drinks from the bar took 20 min, so 30 minutes into our seating we barely had drinks. The waitress said they would be comped due to the long wait. (Found out after they weren't) Dinner took over an hour. It was good food but no exaggeration, I got 7 baby carrots with my $48 plate. Given the wait time, poor service, and small servings it too was way overpriced. I was actually so frustrated to see a cook in chef's whites wandering in and out of the kitchen, loitering around instead of helping push plates. Also, here again there seemed to be no discernible management. In fact the hostess was clearing, cleaning and resetting tables because they were so understaffed. Trying to have a nice romantic dinner and when our server finally came to us we got to hear (several times) all about how busy they were and how they were short workers. I was not there to hear the employee's woes. Next morning we debated on the restaurant; we had already decided never again. In the end we opted for the restaurant once more, only because we didn't want to run to town then right back up for riding. Breakfast was faster and tasty at least. During the middle of it the activities rep called and asked if we could come early because of paperwork. We couldn't and he ended up asking us to sign them at the table. The kicker was this. I ordered an iced tea to the tune of close to $3. When I signed the bill I noticed a $2.74 beer/liquor charge. I asked why since we had neither beer nor liquor. "Oh it's the tea that did it" the server said, "because it comes from the bar". The bar that wasn't even open at the time. Was my tea day old from the night before? I don't know. But in the end I got to pay almost $6 for a glass of brewed tea. It was absolutely insane and such an incredible, sneaky rip off. We will NEVER come back and will never recommend this overpriced, terribly managed, unfriendly, place. read more

MUST DO's include: 1) Sunset (or sunrise) in the awesome hot tub; 2) Horseback rides (summer) or Sleigh rides (winter); 3) Ping pong in the activity room; 4) Read a book in the two big fireplace rooms; 5) take in the art displays; amazing Mtn Bike trails (courtesy of Evergreen MTB Alliance) and Nordic trails for all levels (courtesy of MethowTrails). The rooms vary from "OK" to "Great" The price is not cheap, but is more than reasonable for this level of resort. This is a very nice place if and when you want to have a nice, chill, relaxing, leave your worries behind kind of weekend. You are definitely doing this in and with style. This place has or have numerous amenities you can't resist. You can explore the site and see what I'm speaking of here. Plenty of rooms to roam around to discover or explore including the preserved animals hanging all over the place. I love the high ceilings, the whole decor or theme they have going on. The best thing is that I felt like, yeah...I'm doing something "right" right here being on top of the mountains, where I can see all sorts of beautiful birds hanging around the trees branches, and while I'm eating my first class eggs benedict at the the "Dining Room"--overlooking the hills picturesque view. I highly recommend this place and they allow a 3-days reservation. It won't disappoint. I enjoyed visiting this place even when it's about at least 10 miles from downtown. Thumbs up! read more

We've been coming here for over 20 years. This is the first time we visited in the spring & loved it! We hiked just about every trail and felt so refreshed. The mountainsides were covered in blooming wildflowers! It was spectacular! The restaurant & bar both served amazing food! The activities center was helpful in recommending trails to hike. We had a great stay at Sun Mountain Resort. The lodge are reminded us of Suncadia resort. The room was very comfortable and we loved the jetted tub! Due to COVID restrictions, dining was limited to pick-up only but that was a really convenient service since the resort is up about 15-20 mins away from any restaurant. We were happy with the food and ordered dinner each night, breakfast was included. We also got to go sledding on their sled hill that was a close walk form our room. The only cons I will mention is that the coffee pot didn't seem too clean and I didn't want to use it. I've been to other hotels and this often seems to be neglected. We also wished they had a TV. I get that they may be trying to encourage folks to go outdoors but there is only so much daylight time during the day that it would have been nice to be able to kick back and watch a movie after dinner. My second trip to Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop was more disappointing than my first. A friend, who loves the place, celebrated his birthday there. I wanted to be there in spite of my previous experiences. First the good, the service staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. The beds were firm and comfortable. The place was freshly cleaned. Now the unpleasantries: At dinner, the expensive king salmon filet was over cooked, and over salted. The asparagus was the flavorless, skinny woody variety that would not yield to my fork. When I opened the curtains this morning to take in the view, instead of the stunning landscape that surrounds the hotel I found a view of the huge metal roof above Porte Cochere. The first first plate of fish and chips served at lunch contained spoiled fish and was over salted. The replacement was fresher, but had a sweet off taste. The fish and batter were frozen, not fresh. My fiend has planned a surprise supper for tonight. I hope the restaurant's cooks don't disappoint. read more

Our last night is upon us and I wanted to get this review out before our early departure. First and foremost the majority of negative reviews, having gone through them, start with "I got a discount" or "I got a groupon". Unfortunately for sun mountain they will inadvertently attract non demographic or personas to their venue which won't appreciate or value the many amenities or services or environment. With that said, We are not necessarily their target persona. We are a younger fairly recently married couple that enjoys active and plugged-in lifestyle. But, we enjoyed unplugging while here. The rooms are not nearly as amazing as the foyer/lobby or nooks all over (main lodge). They are pretty boring, blank, and do not use their space well. But that's not what your paying for here. The food is better than most of what you will gamble for in a super small town but also is not what I would call resort style cuisine. Their drinks are well priced and we stayed in the smaller restaurant the whole time for our meals. But this too is not what you base your nightly rate off of. The hot tub was amazing and the abundance of outdoor activities are great! What you pay for is the fact that your at a trustworthy, well kept, cozy, and activity focused, secluded lodge in the mountains. They own a ton of land, have a lot of staff, put a lot into the facilities, and have a ton of guest focused amenities. That's what your paying for. The views are epic, you will remember them forever and take pictures and tell everyone. It's also what you won't get at any other place in the area. But you have to appreciate that to see the value. The best demographic is the 40+ medium to high income that wants to get away and relax and be in bed by 9pm, the families that want to unplug and are active outdoorsy types, and the friends and families that want a fully serviced cabin/s but not worry about airb&b or other options so they can spend time away with each other as a medium to large group. I wanted that style of lodging after being in a touristy area so we were happy. It is priced higher than what I normally would pay and yes I can enjoy the same amount at a chain hotel and pay much less. However, the simple things that you otherwise wouldn't look for end up pleasing you. The only thing and I mean the only thing that should improve and is simple to fix is the overall staff communication and interaction with guests. Every day they should huddle and cheer each other up and have policies in place for attitude. They need a 10 ft, 20 ft, and 30 ft rule to welcome, greet, and address guests with hello, how are you, howdy, whatever. I walked by the front desk multiple times and didn't get a look or greeting from them or most staff. However the restaurant staff are on top of it. I would recommend or come back based on the above needs. If just traveling with my wife though, I probably would save the money and stay somewhere else like rental house and take trips to town or mountains. But like I said it's a demo/persona thing, just fit yourself in the category before choosing. read more

Would like to give a 4.5 Stars. Amazing view, great room, super friendly staff. We stayed two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. They accommodated our request to add a microwave to our room. Trails were amazing. We did a little snow shoeing. Free Breakfast was very nice, and their method of delivery is spot on. Wishes: A little more comfortable furniture to take in the breathtaking views. Since there is no in-restaurant dining would have been great to have a bistro like table to eat on in the room. Should have all-day complementary coffee, and hot water in the lobby, especially in the Winter. read more

1st visit to area and stayed in the Mt Robinson Bldg Suite. Very large jet tub was awesome! Gas fireplace and used the balcony to chill our wine. No Internet or TV. We ate most meals in their restaurants (pre-covid). We had no complaints re the eats! We ventured a snow shoe trail just off the property and it was a nice couple hours trek. The snow conditions weren't perfect during this visit for XC. We did manage to get one trip in though. 2nd visit: Stayed 3 nights in a one bedroom cabins on Patterson Lake. No TV/Internet, but a gas fireplace & stereo. Recommend bringing your favorite pan and silicone cutting board as cabin had wooden provided. Games Dishwasher didn't work very well (Needs descaling badly!)so had to just hand wash (BOOO!). We hope they had assigned parking but they did not which made a little tricky. It might be a good idea for them to do so? Made our own meals in cabin. The cabin we occupied, personally could use a refreshening. Looks like my grandmas re decor, etc. Love the XC and snowshoeing trails! These sports outweighed any thing negative. Will return!! Covid precautions excel! read more

Yesterday I get a call that they are overbooked and are cancelling my reservation.....two days before my arrival date. Completely unacceptable. We had a fantastic stay at the lodge. The groomed ski trails are amazing and the mountain setting can't be beat. The views from the restaurant are beautiful and our room was spacious and very clean. My son enjoyed the game room and hot tub and I had a great time at the spa. We brought snacks & sandwichs since the lodge is 6 miles out of town & downloaded a few movies to watch on the laptop in the evening. We really enjoyed this peaceful retreat. The staff was friendly and helpful, plus the on-site ski & gift shops are convenient. We really appreciated the adherence to mask rules and covid-safety protocols. read more

We stayed in a King room located in the main lodge in October 2020. We always felt safe with respect to COVID procedures. The lodge has an unbeatable location, with good access to hiking, biking, and horseback riding. They provided a free takeout breakfast each day. We got a fantastic recommendation for a bike ride one day, perfectly matched to our skill and experience. And they went above and beyond expectations. There were a few very minor maintenance issues with our room. Nothing worth bothering with during our stay. We sent an email after we left to point them out so they could be addressed for future guests. A week or two later we got a thank you letter saying they were addressing the issues. Sun Mountain Lodge is a special place. We have been back many times over the last 20 years. It just keeps drawing us back, summer, fall, and winter. Amazing getaway after weeks of working from home. It's quiet and serene. The views are beautiful. The hikes are peaceful. We've counted 47 deer already within 100 yards of our balcony. The WiFi allows us to keep tabs on the email inbox in the morning and night. The restaurant has done a great job with our takeout orders and even allowed us to grab some wine glasses for a to-go bottle in our room. It was worth the drive to get out of the city for a few nights on a staycation. read more

We went on our honeymoon and wow such beautiful views here! In the Robinson rooms we have a great view. I love how the big jacuzzi tub has the same view as well when you're taking a bath! It's nice not having tv, it makes you appreciate the breathtaking nature. They play classical music as well which is peaceful. With covid the pool and hot tub are closed unfortunately which makes sense but we definitely want to come back here and enjoy that along with other activities which are open with covid (we just brought our baby so it's hard to do some things) but still a lot of fun! Plus they have a big grassy area for her to walk around and a little toy area. The front desk lady was great and even gave us a room in the upper story even with a baby with us which was nice. Overall everywhere you look there is a gorgeous view surrounding you! read more

We told everyone about this place and it has been in the top 5 of our possible wedding venues. Of course, the pandemic threw a wrench in everyone's lives and we found the experience not so pleasant during that time; the location and accommodations were still great but the restaurant had diminished significantly. BUT, you have to make allowances for once in a lifetime pandemics, so we chocked it up to that being the reason. HOWEVER, now that things have opened up more and the restaurant has been back to a full menu and open hours for awhile, we wanted to visit the place we love(d) again. We haven't even been here one night and I can definitely say that our opinions are forever changed. We will not ever be back. It's still a truly gorgeous location, and that's a big piece of why we are willing to pay above market rates again and again, but this is NOT a 5 star hotel even though that's the rate that you pay to stay here. The front desk staff is nice, but they seem new and have to go ask someone else for every question you ask them. The restaurant? Avoid it at all costs. I have paid less at a Michelin starred restaurant yet the food is more roadside diner equitable. Bland, over cooked, or under cooked, slow to arrive and under seasoned or over seasoned. When we provided our feedback to our server (who was great, despite the hiccups) she apologized and offered to bring her manager over for a discount. We advised we really just wanted the feedback to go to whoever it needed to go to because it really was THAT bad. Our server left and returned to apologize again and to say that the manager had offered us one free dessert for compensation. No manager arrived at the table to provide this offer themselves and/or to get the customer feedback from the customer directly, but instead they returned the server to our table to offer what she knew to be practically nothing in response. After our exceptionally disappointing experience, we decided to forego dessert. Look, I get that the pandemic was likely a big hit to the business. I get that it can take some time to get back to a "normal" state. For that reason, I'd think customer feedback directly from the customers mouth would be all that much more important and desired by a business. They clearly do not care about the customer, only the $$$$ they want to charge them. The food is not prepared by a chef, that much is transparently clear. If I had to guess, and I do because the manager didn't make an appearance to clear up our concerns, I'd say that the cooks are barely trained on the menu or how to prepare the dishes. The kitchen is clearly distressed because it took an hour and a half to get our mains and it's a small restaurant that was not full when we were seated. In addition, the quality of the food is questionable at best. If my partner and I come and spend $2k in two days at a resort, that cannot be our experience, at least not one that will be repeated. I strongly recommend you stay and eat anywhere else if you are visiting the Methow Valley. You can always drive up here for the view but avoid spending your money here. They simply don't deserve it. Hopefully they get back to their previous state at some point, and if they do maybe someone can let me know about it. Alas, all good things must come to an end I suppose. We went to Sun Mountain expecting a five star experience; however, it was underwhelming. First the upside: The Mt. Robinson Room is supposed to be their best rooms, designed for couples. The room was clean and very functional, particularly the way you can sit in the jet tub and look out at the mountain. We saw deer out our window and our neighbor saw a bear. The room was very clean and pretty quiet. The lodge is nice, although it is starting to show signs of age. It has a lot of taxidermy and if you ask or go for a wine tasting, there is a full-bodied polar bear mount in the wine cellar. The Dining Room--order the halibut!! Otherwise, see below. The downside: First, they have minerals in their water which leaves the water looking brown and leaves a residue around the tub. They told us that they would flush our pipes after we complained the first day and they did; it did not help and the next time we filled the tub, it was brown again. The pillows sucked. The Dining Room is the biggest reason for this three star review. The service was non-existent! We waited far to long for drinks, food, and dessert. We also had our empty plates sitting in front of us for twenty minutes after we finished dinner. I could understand if the place was slammed, but it was empty. The food was so-so, the cheese plate was very elementary and the risotto was gritty. Overall, if I head back toward Winthrop, I would save my money and stay somewhere else closer to town. It's not that this was a terrible experience, mind you, it just was unsatisfying for the price and really fell short of our expectations. read more

The rooms were very clean and staff was absolutely great! One of our party requested an upgrade and they accommodated for free to rooms with even more amazing views! Everything looked like new and there was an amazing hot tub overlooking the mountains. It felt like an all inclusive resort! I will be back next year for the balloon roundup!! :) read more

Went there as a group of 4 for dinner at their restaurant and 1-hour massages. Resort is beautiful and well decorated. I am not into taxidermy at all but it fits the theme I guess... Massages were great and all Covid-19 related measures were respected. Dining room at the restaurant has amazing views! We had a reservation for dinner and were seated promptly. Server was great. Food was very expensive for the quality offered. Bread rolls were dried and cold. Salad was thrown into the plate and well, the special "surf and turf" came in barely warm for $32. Very nice of them to write happy birthday to my cake, but the cake was too rich and hard cold... I was pretty disappointed by the food but I guess you pay for the views and location. Obviously as you have have read from the other reviews the views are stunning, and the lodge is very quaint. The WiFi has been great so you can stream movies on your laptop if you want to. The room decor is pretty dated. There are many activities including one where you can order a packed lunch, and do some hiking trails; I called the dining room from my room ($400 a night) Trisha picked up the phone; I asked where we could order these meals, and if there are vegetarian options; she told me she did not have time to read the menu to me over the phone & that I would have to go to the dinning room & hung up. I have no problem walking to the dining room; her response was just so cold and unwelcoming that I drove to a near by town (twisp) to get food. So far all other staff has been so great! read more

Nice location and accommodations. But service is slow and bad. We had to wait for 25 min to get our drinks for lunch.. at resorts bar area. Then servant totally mixed up our orders. Then she forgot to bring forks. But of course she wanted us to pay sooner due to her shift ending. Similar experience at the spa. Very dissatisfying. Will look for somewhere else next time read more

Great location and views. Other than that, the prices were not worth the amenities or experience. We stayed in May for two nights. Certainly with our room cost, we get a hotel room with daily housekeeping and free use of all of the facilities, such as the pool, lounge chairs at the pool, small gym, game room including ping pong, shuffle board, foosball and billiards. Our room had a beautiful view but sadly, had a deep crack in the ceiling near the windows and drywall water damage. I think the roof of the lodge is leaking or damaged. The game room pool cue sticks and ping pong paddles are very, very worn and cue balls with chips in them. We swam in the pool and used the hot tub. No one is maintaining the pool. The pool towel kiosk was locked so we couldn't use any pool towels and the pool had debris at the bottom and lots of dead bugs in the pool. The hot tub was worse. Lots of dead bugs in there too. It appeared no one was cleaning the pool or hot tub at least while we were there. Our Dining room reservations were cancelled because of lack of staff but they offered the bar and grill. For dinner the bar and grill was 40% full. It took 30 min to get one drink and another hour after that to get our dinner. Food was OK, but nothing to wait for. The next night we got take out at a local restaurant in Winthrop and brought it back to our room. I even had a facial and body scrub but the esthetician never explained what masks or products she put on my face. She was very pleasant during the 90 minute combo-body scrub and facial with no explanation as to what was on my face or body during the service and what were the benefits. It was the strangest spa service I have ever had. I think the resort is understaffed and I'm not sure this place will survive as a top notch resort in the long term. The employees are very friendly but the lodge itself needs some more staff, updates and maintenance in the near future. read more

My parents have been coming to Sun Mountain Lodge for years, and this year they took us with them for a post-Christmas getaway! We stayed in the Gardner Lodging rooms, which had a huge bed, a sitting area, large bathroom, wet bar, fireplace and our own deck. The room was so comfortable and relaxing, we slept with the fireplace roaring in the corner. The rooms even come with wonderful terry cloth robes (my favorite part). There are a lot of things to do at the lodge, but one special thing we did was go on 2 horse open sleigh ride! We rode up around the resort and had hot cocoa on top of the mountain in a heated cabin. It was a great experience and I highly recommend! The lodge staff are very welcoming and have excellent customer service. This was a wonderful getaway and I can't wait to come back! read more

Writing this review for the Horseback riding activity offered at Sun Mountain Lodge. Highly recommend! Our group had an awesome time, the main horse handler Red (apologies forgot her real name, but she mentioned she goes by Red too :)) was amazing!! She was so nice and made us all feel very comfortable while giving us clear directions on how to handle each horse personality. We loved hearing her stories about the land and her horses. She made our experience a memorable one and even took our phones to get photos of the group+views while we were out riding on the trail. Can't wait to go back! read more

2 weeks ago my daughter was married at the lodge. I'm not sure where to start to express my gratitude for a perfect day. Months of preparation went into this wonderful day. My daughter was so happy I can't say enough about Chris B who is the events coordinator, her calm presence, attention to detail was 5 star. Everyone we interfaced with was professional and on point. The word no was not in their vocabulary. The food was fabulous, the rooms lovely and our guests loved the lodge and the wedding It's clear that the staff work as a team, they understand the concept of customer service, so my hat is off to the leadership that create that culture Thank you again for a wonderful couple of days, beautiful wedding, beautiful experience that our family and friends won't forget read more
