I played here for the first time this month and I loved it. Did I loose some golf balls, yep sure did. Did I care nope. I have 3 favorite holes; Number 1. We staid in the Cascade Building and we overlooked the first hole. Beautiful to look at anytime of day and a very challenging first hole. Second favorite hole Number 10. A great elevated tee shot with incredible views all around. Finally my Third favorite hole, (actually a tie since I birdied them), 17 and 18. Overall, I just truly love this place. From day camps to birthday parties, it's just organized and run to perfection. I like this course. Despite what some might say, it's not a links course. But it is a fine example…read moreof good course design employing little elevation change. Greens are somewhat fast but consistent. There are plenty of places to employ your green-reading skills and it pays to pitch your ball to the correct location. Fairways are similarly is great condition. I saw few places where you'd have a bad lie with a good fairway shot. The second cut of rough is really rough here - it's basically a lava field. Do not miss the fairway. The first cut, however, is very playable. In fact, I think I'd prefer the first cut over the fairway proper for short pitches and chips. I understand this is a winter phenomenon (playable rough) and when spring sets in and the grass grows out, you won't want to be in the first cut, either. Update: no, the course condition in the summer (last round was over 100 degrees) is still great and the first cut is a fine place to land your ball. Bunkers in good shape with good sand. If you know how to execute a bunker shot, you'll have little problem here. As with any bunker, if it has rained or snow has melted, the sand plays different. There are some fairway bunkers. Water is not a big factor at Juniper. There are a couple of holes on the back nine where it comes into play but even then, easy to avoid. No water carries here. Good driving range, practice green and practice short game area. Carts are electric, are in good condition and feature retractable side curtains during winter.

Restaurant review:…read more About as old-school as they get in these parts, the Bend Golf Club restaurant/lounge is open to the public. No membership required. Ambiance is true to the genre: open area with numerous cloth-covered four tops as well as a few larger tables. Naugahyde (I think) lounge chair seating. Golf playing on the several TVs scattered about. No loud music. It's definitely casual. There's a small bar seating maybe six. About those chairs - they're horrible. If you have even a slightly cranky back, you'll hate them. I certainly do. - Service is good, efficient. Not top tier but certainly nothing to grumble about. Your order is taken quickly, drinks arrive soon and the food not too much later. We've had to wait for our our server to notice we needed drink refills a couple of times. - I mentioned the bar, which despite my being a dedicated bar-rat I don't think I'd want to sit at. They have only several beers on draft, well below Bend standards. If you're looking for booze or wine, they have it. - The menu is old school American with a few outliers. Salmon fish & chips, for example, are pretty good (they also have the more standard cod F&C). Several salads - I tried the SW steak salad, which despite having a nice cut of beef was not remarkable. Ribs, burgers, wings, pasta, shrimp, pork chops, etc, are all available. They do have the Impossible Burger, if you're into that. - And they have specials. That SW steak salad was one, but there's also prime rib night (Saturday, I believe) and a four-course dinner on Thursday for $25. - Prices for the food are maybe a tad high but not outrageous by any means. Before you tip, check for added gratuity on your bill. Drink prices are in line with what you expect in Bend. Hours change with the season, I'm told (by a member). During winter, it's open Thursday - Sunday. Otherwise (i.e., when the golf course is operating) it's open every day except Monday. The website doesn't reflect that. Bottom line? It's OK and if you're a member, it's certainly a good option for you. As a destination? Not so much. Unless you like to watch golf while you drink & dine.
