They have an awesome appetizer lunch combo option that I would focus on next time. I got chicken lo mein, and my husband got chicken fried rice, which was pretty good. My dad's General Tso's was more sweet than spicy, so disappointing. My mom got the shrimp chow mein, which she said was different than what she was used to, but she liked it. The Pu Pu platter was the real hit of our lunch and I would do that again. That said, the restaurant is super clean, the staff is kind and service is great. My family loves to road trip. But when we stop for food, we cannot just stop for burgers or chicken fingers. Absolutely not. We always stop for Chinese. This was an absolute smash out of the park stop on our way from Chicago to Hilton Head. The food was AMAZING. Some of our favorites were the sesame chicken, fish filet in hot pot, teriyaki skewer appetizer, egg rolls and mapo tofu. All absolutely delicious! Twice I've had to go back after picking up an order for take-out for missing items (I know, check your order...but this place was always dependable) This time the food was almost flavorless, especially the Hot and Sour Soup. We also bought Shrimp Fried Rice. There were only 8 very small shrimp and not as much rice as usual. At least the rice was somewhat hot, can't say the same for the soup that needed to be microwaved. UNSEASONED! My friends and I went here last night to grab a bite. I didn't do my due diligence and believe the reviews I read. I came out on my own free will and regretted it! So, I ordered the spicy beef in a pot. It came out looking delicious but oily! You could see the scallions and peppers and I just knew this was going to be delicious. NOPE! Why did it taste floral? Like I can't even describe the taste. Just awful. I should've known better when my strawberry daiquiri came out looking real light skin! Like very pink and not red! But trying to be optimistic and look at where it got me, Tuh! My friend ordered egg drop soup and it legit looked like they put egg whites in water! She had to add salt and pepper. Again, no flavor! The other two friends seemed to enjoy their dishes. But not I. After returning my dish and paying $30 for an inedible dish and some veggie springs rolls (and you guessed it, UNSEASONED) and a very mid daiquiri (and that's being nice), it's very safe to say I will never return here. This was my first visit to Sun Ming. When ordering, I asked the waitress if the chicken would be breaded. This is because I have a condition where I cannot eat anything that is breaded or fried. She indicated it was not. She showed me an example on the menu of chicken, which was not breaded. My friend ordered a different dish, which was not breaded at all. When the dish came, it was clearly breaded and the taste of the chicken was very unusual. The sauce did not look appetizing at all. I tried to eat this meal the fried rice weirdest taste of any fried rice I've ever had. I frequent other Chinese restaurants and I love the restaurant Thailand in Irmo. The quality of the food was subpar. The waitress did not even ask why I wasn't eating my meal. I told her I did not want a box to take home and she never asked why. It is adjacent to railroad tracks. Authentic and what brings out the flavor is a seasoned wok. In Chinese, it is the flavor that emanates from a well-used wok. They have a mix of southern an northern style dishes on their menu. Dishes for the masses are chow fun (stir fry broad rice noodles), Singapore fry noodles (mild curry), pepper salt squid (calamari with heat), garlic eggplant, any story fry meat and veg. dishes. Dishes off the mainstream but done well are the shredded pork and dry tofu, flounder (whole- steamed or flash fried), the clay and hot pots. For the traditional diner, vegetables a la cart hits the mark. This place brings back nostalgic memories of family style dining. Make sure once you're seated order some hot and sour soup it's delicious a perfectly balanced soup. If you want to grab something different get the roasted Cantonese duck with plum sauce for dipping. Okay, so out of all the Chinese restaurants I've been to in the midlands, this one stood out the most to me. Being half Asian, I grew up eating authentic Chinese food. Unlike many of my peers here in the southeast, my comfort food is Asian food. Cantonese is my number one favorite kind of food! I've lived here for 24 years and you just can't find authentic Chinese/Cantonese food anywhere in South Carolina. With that said, I walked in here with high hopes because everyone rants and raves about it! Right off the bat, as soon as I walked in, I noticed this establishment has the "lazy Susan" turn table in the middle of the round tables, just like the traditional Chinese restaurants I've dined in before. What a great start! I liked how it felt in the dining room. From the art on the walls, to the chandelier in the middle of the room, to the traditional Asian music playing ever so quietly in the background, this place really felt like the real deal! Our server was nothing short of amazing! He had such a genuine smile on his face every time he came to our table and you could tell he was very proud of the food he was serving us, which I loved as well. I also like how they offer more traditional Chinese menu items, as opposed to just the typical Chinese American menu items you see on every Chinese takeout menu. My boys, husband and I all started with a cup of soup. We had egg drop wonton soup and sweet sour soup. Then, I ordered Beef Pan Fried Noodles, steamed potsticker dumplings and spare ribs for all of us to share. The excitement in my bones could be felt all the way to Chinatown in NY, I was so excited! Once the food came out, we all dug in. First, let me say the steamed potsticker dumplings were the best ones we've ever had in the midlands. You could just tell these were not frozen and prepared poorly. The texture of the dumpling surrounding the tender meat inside was perfect. The spare ribs were delicious and the flavor was definitely on point with Chinese spare ribs I grew up eating. They could've been a little bit juicer to where they melted in my mouth, but I was still very satisfied with every bite. Again, these were the best Chinese spare ribs I've had compared to other Chinese restaurants and buffets around here. Beef Pan Fried Noodles are a staple for me personally. As a kid, they were always ordered for the table to share and I have always loved them. So seeing these on the menu immediately lit my soul! I was so excited to eat it. Let's just say they were good, but the sauce was a little bland. The vegetables were noticeably fresh and cooked to perfection, along with the beef and the pan fried noodles. However, the sauce just didn't deliver as much as I would've liked it to. Maybe I set the bar too high. Either way, it was still good and we ate it all. Due to the amazing menu and what it had to offer, we all plan to come back again! I am so stoked to have finally found a more traditional Chinese restaurant. I can't use the word authentic to describe this place, but definitely traditional, which is truly refreshing to see. You won't find "sesame chicken " or "general Tso" on an authentic Chinese/Cantonese menu in my opinion, but my assumption is being in the South, they still have to cater to that American palate... which is totally fine and 100% understandable! I'm willing to bet they make those items better than anywhere else too. I just can't quite label this place as authentic yet. It is definitely the closest thing to it I've seen in this whole state though! This has become a regular spot for my wife and I. The food is authentic Chinese and consistently good. Well seasoned, well portioned, and priced fairly. They have decent service, and the newest waitress did a great job serving us. We had not seem her before, but we will be asking for her in the future. She was so nice to us! The ambiance is "classic Chinese restaurant", and if I'm being picky, I would say the music was a slight bit too loud. This is a good place for a family meal or get together with friends.
