Wes starts out helpful. His crews cannot deliver what he states. They have been out more than 2 times for every problem. Never fix it the first time. New custom home and have them install simple backyard - no pool or spa. Just grass, few plants and 2 trees. Lines split. Plants and trees died, drainage was backing up into yard as drain was forgotten, pathway had water running into patio instead of away and refused to replace any plants Or treea. Blames the weather. Thank heavens we didn't use them for our front landscaping. Notice Wes blames the pavers on drainage - ignores the fact his guy did NOT concrete in the border as he specked for the job. It's just sad the workmanship is poor and he doesn't want to accept his crew cut corners. read more

Sun Control was not my lowest bid. They were actually quite expensive. I chose them to do my backyard because the developer had them do my front yard. I hired them to do the first phase of my backyard. Three of the many plants they installed died. Eric told me they could be replaced time and material because the warranty expired two months ago. I paid way to much for that BS. My interest in having Sun Control do further work for me has expired. read more

Great Job by Wes and Sun Control. I needed a complete overhaul of a rental property's front and back yards. Sun Control came in with the lowest bid and the work they did was great. Its a big lot and Wes' crew made sure that every nook and cranny was immaculate. I also appreciated the quick turnaround time when I had questions about the job. As well as the quick work after I signed the contract. But most of all I appreciated how easy Wes made this entire process. He wasn't pushy, he actually listened to my ideas, offered some suggestions and the end result is a great looking yard. read more

See 2nd update below: UPDATE to what I wrote is below which takes them from a 5 to a 2 (1 plus for the install work discussed below): I have to give it to Roxy and Wes and the Sun Control Landscapes crew. Very professional and they kept me up to date on their work status and schedule. Hired a contractor to work some pool repair, build out a fire pit, and install a putting green. For "softscape" or installing plants, lighting, etc, I was referred to Sun Control. Turned out that Sun Control was the sub for all but the pool repair and the design for the fire pit. Could not lock down the schedule with the primary contractor and the quality of work quickly became questionable, so canceled the pool repair stuff. Opted just to focus on the work that Sun Control had a hand in on and I wasn't disappointed. Wes saved the day for a redo on the fire pit (based on primary contractor design), and the work they did to renovate/refresh my backyard was fantastic. I'd say the landscape industry is huge on customer satisfaction and navigating the touchy waters of design and "happy factor." You have to be sensitive to folks like us who are often spending thousands to improve their homes and property. Based on how Roxy, Wes, Roberto, and many others performed on site, they've earned 5 stars. Friendly but above all, really professional. Thanks guys - the project looks amazing! UPDATE: So, a month later, I noticed that my $900 lime tree wasn't right. The leaves were a bit curled when they installed the tree but it still looked okay with fruit. I shot an email to them asking what to do. There's a warranty. I got an email back about watering and please send pictures. i adjusted the settings that they installed for the watering and sent a series of pictures including the tree. No response from Wes. I asked Roxy, she was understanding and said, "I'll have him get in touch with you." Nothing. Ask again and again...nothing. It has been 2 months since I sent the pictures and concerns over, leaves and limes are dropping off, the buds aren't growing, and I kept updating the status of the seemingly slowly dying tree. Crickets. It's a bummer. I'll update again if this gets resolved but I paid thousands and thousands for the work and would have thought I was worth more after the job was done, particularly since they guaranteed their work. UPDATE 2: It has been a year. This year - my large orange tree was exhibiting some difficulty. During the backyard renovation, Sun Control took out my existing irrigation system and installed drip lines. I asked if the 4 emitters would be sufficient for my tree with a 20ft canopy and they indicated that a citrus tree this large will pull water differently and not require as much watering on the surface. 4 emitters for my large tree and 4 for my small new lime. 4 emitters when my tree was previously on a bubbler and lawn sprinkling before they replaced it with artificial turf. After my tree looked hurt this year - I called in a tree doc and he indicated that 4 drips is absolutely insufficient and that they were too close to the trunk. More were needed to cover more of the root system and be more distributed because the root was obviously getting most of its water from the lawn and bubblers which were several feet away from the new emitters. Essentially, you need to feed the root system where they were getting most of their watering before. Does that make sense? My tree with a 20ft diameter canopy required 60gal/day equivalency during July and it was getting less than a quarter of that. My fault for not measuring the watering requirements but 4 drips could not possibly be enough. For my little lime tree. After 3 months last year - I finally got Wes to come out and look at the tree. Said all the leaves dropped because I was overwatering. I showed the tree doc my issues and communications and photos from last year and he indicated that newly planted trees need more water to get them through the shift. He said the root balls are loaded with fertilizer so not really needed initially but did say that I was not overwatering at all, and mentioned that oftentimes, a young citrus tree will lose all their leaves and go into shock if the root ball is disturbed/damaged. It's coming back but not remotely like it was when I first had the tree installed. Hope this helps. If you settle on a landscaping company - make sure you call a tree expert to review the installation plan to make sure you don't harm existing foliage. read more

We were referred to Sun Control by our builder to do our backyard landscaping because they did all the front landscaping. The bid they gave us was comparable to a couple others that we had received but we decided to go with them because "otherwise we would void our warranty on our front yard" if we went with another company (which wouldn't have matter because most of our front yard plants are dead now anyway). Initially Eric was responsive, professional and drew up a beautiful rendering of what our yard would look like. But then we got started...we were told one install date when we signed the contract and it ended up being delayed almost two months because "other jobs in front of us". You think they would have known that at the time we signed the contract but we were told what we wanted so that we would sign. Our backyard turned out great at first glance but 3 months later 5 of our plants were dead. My maintenance landscaper (different company) told me it was becasue the irrigation hoses were too long and the water was getting evreywhere but the roots. He clipped them for us but it was too late to save the plants. We also had Sun Control install paver step stones on our side yard with the rest of the backyard on the initial job and they were a MESS. They were installed completely crooked when they were supposed to be straight. They were also installed incorrectly and have started falling apart and all of the steps are loose. We contacted Eric to tell them that this is not what we paid thousands of dollars for and he said they would NOT redo their poor job that they did but they would build us a paver pad for our garbage bins for free. We felt like it was either that or nothing so we let them do that....and shocker...the pad was installed incorreclty as well. No cement anywhere and the pad is sloping and falling apart. We recently had another company do the front paver path to our driveway and they called me to tell me that they were concerned about the quality of the backyard pavers. They took the time to call me and tell me that the job that was done on our side yard by Sun Control was the worst job they had every seen in their 35 years in the business. That is saying a lot. OVERVIEW: Sun Control is very responsive and professional in the beginning and will provide you with a beautiful rendering of your yard prior to signing the contract but it's a gamble as to whether or not they will deliver. And when they dont, do NOT expect them to make it right. There is a reason their warranty on the plants are only 90 days...becasue they WILL die as soon as that expires and then you are on your own. Very disappointed and now we have to spend more money to fix the job that should have been done right in the first place. Dishonest/disrespectful. On 3/27/13, Sun Control Landscapes installed and fertilized 2 Ash trees (among other things) at my home. Before leaving, they asked me to write a review on Yelp, to which I agreed once the "new" wears off and everything is in order. But by late-May both Ash trees were nothing more than bare, brittle branches (despite the newly-installed drip system and additional watering), so I asked that the trees be replaced. I was told, "They just need a little fertilizer and some time." When I asked about the warranty period, I was told the trees would be fine...this is normal for Ash trees, not to worry. Each time I complained about the dead trees, they fertilized again ($50 a pop!), and assured me that the trees just need fertilizer and "a little more time." Now, over 3 years later, the branches remain bare and brittle. Despite my offer to pay a portion of the cost, Sun Control refuses to replace a dead tree, saying they are not responsible after the warranty period, despite the fact I specifically asked for replacement prior to the end of the warranty period. When I tried to work this out directly, I was told to go elsewhere for landscaping service. To date, I have reserved comments, but unfortunately, it is now time for me to Yelp...I would not recommend Sun Control Landscapes to anyone who wishes to be treated with honesty or respect. read more

They are terrible! They put my original irrigation system in that had a pinched line. I called Wes to see if it could be fixed..First off, It took him a week to even respond to the message. When he did come out to "check it", he rang the doorbell and then went around the corner to look at it. With no introduction and I followed him around the corner and when I went to ask him the first question., He put his hand in the air for me to stop and then pointed to the Bluetooth in his ear and quite rudely told me that he was on the phone. Then he went on about how he really didn't have any time to be here that they would fix it but I would have to call to schedule. When I did call him back to schedule he picked up the phone and told me that he was in a meeting ( who actually answers their phone in a meeting anyways). He told me he would call me right back, and that was a month ago...I am still waiting. Obviously I was not a big enough job or important enough for him and to take time out of his "busy" schedule. And to top it off I found that the line was pinched because of a mistake that they had made compacting down the dirt around one of my trees. I think they are a joke and I would not recommend them to anyone. read more
