Needed to get bloodwork done and decided to give this location a shot. When I arrived, there was a line of people standing outside. There are some seats inside, but for some reason they had everyone stay out in the sun. Each patient had to sign in and get a number. The employees here seemed unprofessional. They were very adamant about going in order of the numbers. For one of the numbers they called out, no one was showing up. Instead of moving on to the next number, the employees spent almost ten minutes taking turns screaming the number and the person's name who disappeared. They laughed and thought it was funny, as they wasted our time. So they did this for like ten minutes when they could have been helping out other patients instead. When it was finally my turn to get blood drawn, I was seated in a small room with another patient. The seats were placed so that we faced each other. It was really weird watching each other get blood drawn. I am used to having more privacy for blood tests. To make things worse, their restroom was out of service. So every patient was given a urine sample cup and told to come back with it another time. Spent over an hour at this place just for bloodwork. It should have been no more than thirty minutes. Next time I would stick with another location that is more clean, organized, and professional.

    very Painful

The first time she pricked me with a large needle, it hurt a lot and no blood came out. I've never seen such a nurse before. I asked if she could be replaced, but she refused and continued to prick my other hand. Her technique was bad and her attitude was even worse. I don't recommend going there

This blood drawing station used to be the best Sun Clinical Laboratories out of 10+ other locations before the pandemic and it is still the best one when it comes to painless blood drawing experience, BUT one of the biggest drawback now is that this location has been transformed into a testing site for COVID-19 PCR nasal swab and COVID-19 antibody tests. As a result, the waiting time extended from a typical less than 10-minute wait (pre-COVID) to one-hour wait time (post-COVID) because this location does not have a separate wait line for routine blood draws vs COVID-19 antibody blood draws. [COVID tests]: COVID-19 PCR ($175) and COVID antibody IGM tests ($75) are required for anyone who's planning to fly to China. An additional COVID-19 antibody IGM N-protein ($275 = three tests) is also needed for travelers who received the COVID-19 vaccine in the US within the last 2 months. Most international flights require at least one COVID-19 PCR test. Same-day result will be available at 6 PM (or 8 PM on Saturday) if you come before 12 PM; otherwise afternoon results can be picked up next day after 9 AM. No appointment is needed and please bring your passport. [Check-in]: There are two check-in stations - one for COVID-19 PCR nasal swab (the white tent on the curb) and another one (the white tent closer to the front entrance) for blood draws. I signed in at 8:30 AM, wrote time of arrival, grabbed a number, waited 45 minutes before someone called my number, waited another 15 minutes, and finally had my blood draw. [Execution]: Apparently there was a typo on the gender info on doctor's order (wrote female instead of male), but the staff was professional and proceeded with my blood draw without any logistical hiccup. Blood draw was painless and I barely felt anything. I may consider visiting the other location in San Gabriel Medical Plaza due to unnecessary long wait at this El Monte location, but I still give a solid 4-star due to how good their phlebotomists are and fairly friendly service.

My Mom needed to get some lab work done for her annual checkup recently. We came here to Sun Clinical Labs in El Monte to drop off some samples. When we first arrived, there were already some people in front of us. The staff appeared to be scrambling around to get people checked-in and attended to. My Mom and I waited patiently in line. When more people came in, the staff attended to them before us. That didn't seem right to me so I quickly got one of the staff's attention and kindly insisted they help us since we were here first. It was chaos to say the least. Anyway, finally one of the ladies got our paperwork and started processing my Mom's order. Yeah, they were not very organized. I'm sure they were doing their best, but they really need to form a better system to get people checked-in in an orderly fashion. Hopefully, we'll have better experience next year.

The system felt both ageist and ableist, as there appeared to be no meaningful support for elderly or disabled patients who were clearly struggling. While waiting, I helped an 84-year-old woman check herself in, scan her documents, and navigate the process. I was happy to assist her, but I felt sorry that she was left to rely on the kindness of another patient rather than receiving help from Quest staff. Several other elderly and disabled patients also appeared confused and had difficulty completing the check-in process. In addition, the facility had only one working patient restroom, resulting in delays and frustration for those waiting to provide urine samples. In 2026, a healthcare company should recognize that not all patients are comfortable with or capable of navigating self-service technology without assistance. Quest Diagnostics should do better to accommodate elderly and disabled patients and ensure that support is readily available when needed. Based on this experience, I do not plan to return.

The front desk staff is not patient or friendly at all to those with tech illiteracy. First of all, the stress of COVID precautions means only 7 patients are allowed at a time in the waiting room. Which is not a bad thing, but it creates a waiting system especially for those without an appointment. Personally, I did not have any problem checking in or waiting to be seen. It was smooth sailing for me. But it really bothers me when our elders and those with a language barrier are treated as second class citizens when the people working there obviously also speak Spanish too, proven because I heard them speak it. Parking was easy and so was finding the place.

They definitely need to hire more techs or have better staffing during busy hours. When we arrived, there was only one person drawing blood while also taking care of the front. Another tech eventually came back from break, but instead of helping with the long line of patients, they were in the back chatting while everyone continued to wait. It's extremely frustrating to sit here for hours, especially when you can see how understaffed and unorganized the location is. I completely understand that places get busy, but when patients are waiting this long and there aren't even enough seats, something needs to change.
