Prefacing this review by saying I am not Nigerian, but I have friends who are and have been very curious to try Nigerian cuisine. Another side note.. I don't do spicy food. I'm a wuss! Having said that, I was really excited to try this. What I wasn't expecting was for it to be small and styled like a cafeteria. This is located in a small strip mall. There was parking, since we came in on a Wednesday. I think that the bulk of their orders are placed online or over the phone and picked up because we were the only ones dining here. Onto what we tried- a little bit of everything! Egusi soup with fufu, jollof rice, coconut rice, goat, mixed meat and chicken. The food was tasty but dry. I'm not sure if it was because it sat for a bit. I thought that it would be prepared at order, but it was already ready and under heat lamps. My favorite was probably the goat; my least favored was probably the egusi soup. The staff were friendly, and the portions were decently sized for the price.

The lady that is either the owner or chef is a rude non welcoming nasty person, I'm sorry to say but I have never encountered a restaurant like this. So unacceptable, drove from Orange city to deal with this rude non welcoming nasty common sense only person running the restaurant when I arrived with ZERO customer and couldn't answer an honest clear answer about the food on the menu

Okro soup with mixed meat

We had been looking for a place to try some Nigerian food and were glad we were able to find a place close to where we are in OC! WHAT WE ORDERED Egusi soup with chicken Okro soup with mixed meat Jollof rice with fish Coconut rice with goat FOOD I don't really have a point of comparison, but everything was delicious! The egusi soup was very well seasoned and one of my favorites of our meal, but as an okra lover I have to say the okro soup was my favorite. The rices were also super flavorful. I do wish the mixed meats were more tender, but that along with the chicken were okay. I really enjoyed the fish and was a huge fan of the goat - not too gamey. SERVICE We had an amazing experience with their service. They asked if it was our first time and they gave us great recommendations, especially when it came to serving size. They came back to check on us to see how we liked it, and were so friendly and welcoming. VIBES Family restaurant type of vibe, nothing fancy, but a good amount of seating to share a meal with friends. They play good music too. BOTTOM LINE Pretty good experience - I'd come back to try more of their menu!

Food: 5/5 From the poundad yam, cow leg meat, and mixed meat so wonderfully good. The yam was perfectly soft, the leg meat was huge and spicy. Finally the mixed meat had a nice variation and perfectly spicy. Service: 4/5 Quick and attentive. Ambiance: 2/5 Table, chairs, food. Straight to the point.

Egusi and Fufu Combo

Finally tried Nigerian food. I ordered fufu and Egusi with chicken. It was very flavorful and the yam was so soft it melted in your mouth. It was a tad on the greasy side. The meat was so tender!

Was craving something i've never tried before and decided to give this place a try! I got the fufu combo with chicken egusi soup. My dad got the beef egusi soup. We were approached with welcoming and kind service. My dad can't do spice and they perfectly accommodated him. The food came with great quantity and quality! I'd love to try the rest of the food on the menu eventually!

Plantains, pounded yam fufu, and egusi soup w/ goat meat

This was my first time trying pounded yam fufu and egusi soup with goat meat. The goat was tough and chewy. It was really hard to bite into. I would probably get chicken next time. The egusi soup was flavorful. The fufu was soft and fluffy. I got a side of fried plantains that were sweet and tender. I placed an order on DoorDash for pickup in the morning before they opened, and it was ready about 30 min after opening. The fufu combo was $26, and the fried plantain was $3. I was asked to show my order confirmation. The food was ready and still warm when I walked in. Only one other family was eating there, so I was helped quickly. I'd come here again and order the same things except change the meat to chicken. I'd recommend this place to others.

I was so incredibly excited to try fufu and egusi my expectations were met times 100. It was so delicious and I will definitely be coming back. My best friend and I went to Sumptuous in a whim, sat in my car and dug in. The cashier was very straightforward but she warmed up after handing us our food. So excited to come back :)

Oma is super sweet. We love her! Me and my sister have been here twice and the service was great both times. Oma is very willing to help and this restaurant feels very homey. The egusi and okro soups were super good and the fufu was very yummy. We will be back another time for sure!

The meat was like leather. The fufu wasn't like fufu I'd tasted previously. I enjoyed the Egusi. The meal was too pricey for the quality.

Okay long overdue review. We went here for Valentine's dinner. Originally we had their signature…read moresteak in kind. But we saw the pasta menu, and quickly changed our minds. It did not disappoint! I got the creamy chicken pesto and he got the short rib gnocchi. Both were absolutely delicious. It's quite a popular local spot. This establishment has a South African theme and I saw both the USA and South African flags flown outside. This establishment is only open for evening rations and was very busy when I arrived and there was a wait for a table. We were called and seated. The waitress pointed us to a QR Code and I told her neither of us do QR codes so she brought us a tablet that had the menu. This establishment does NOT have paper menus. Apparently this establishment wants people to go digital which I GREATLY resent as I am an analogue guy and I do not want to go digital!!!!! This is the one and only reason why I am giving such a low grade. Men's washroom was clean and had paper towels available... good. I ordered the cheeseburger and shake combo deal. The burger was quite good as were the French Fries and the chocolate shake was excellent. My mother ordered the lamb and was very satisfied though she took most of it home. Normally I would automatically give the lowest score possible if a sit down restaurant lacks a written paper or laminated menu or if an establishment forces me to use a kiosk to place an order. However I requested a sample of Biltong and the waitress honoured that request. For this reason I am adding an additional point for a total of two points instead of the one point that I would have otherwise awarded. If a letter grade was assigned as is done in school, this establishment would get a D. NOTE: If this establishment had a paper or laminated menu available, I would have awarded four out of five possible points which would have equated to a letter grade of B. The reason I would not have given a perfect score is because I noticed that some of the guys who work at this establishment wore their shirts untucked which I consider to be highly unprofessional.

This restaurant surpasses them all. We came to celebrate my friend's birthday (she eats here all the time, has lived in Africa for years, and knows the owner and his family) and ordered the vegetarian combo, okra, Awaze Tibs (beef), hot bubbling Tegabino shiro, and a fried sambusa (lentil filling) appetizer to share. The flavors and seasonings used in the veggie dishes and beef had a nice balance and went exceptionally well together. The injera bread was fluffy and had a good mouthfeel, with enough bounce and texture to pick up and hold the delicious food and sauces together into the perfect bite-sized morsels. Injera bread was so good that I would eat this plain. As a sourdough flatbread, their injera was not overly sour nor dry. We also finished 2 bottles of Ethiopian honey wine, which was less sweet than I expected and closer in profile to a light Chardonnay, than a sweet wine. Wine was a perfect pairing for the food. As far as beverages go, they have a small selection of beer and wine in the menu, along with Ethiopian coffee/tea which is freshly brewed to order. They also have a nice traditional coffee/tea setting in one corner of the restaurant and I was told they provide a special freshly brewed coffee service on weekends. Definitely a top recommendation from me, for authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean food. My friend informed me that this restaurant is a labor of love/care from the owner, who had a very successful engineering career before he opened this restaurant, which was a dream of his to share the foods he grew up with to the local Ethiopian and Eritrean community. Even more reason to love and support this restaurant! We went on a weeknight for early dinner and it wasn't crowded. Plenty of parking as they're located in a small shopping plaza.

So in short, if you never had Ethiopian food and need a spot for date night, come here... hungry! Oh.... And you'll be eating/enjoying this meal with your hands which would be the traditional way to eat an Ethiopian meal, but of course, you can always ask for utensils! We ordered the Traditional Combo and you're given this huge platter of Injera (think of a spongy crepe like sourdough tasting bread!) topped with different kinds of Ethiopian Dishes. I used my hand as a reference to show you how big this platter really is! The flavor profiles that I believe would best describe the food would be bold, earthy, tangy with a bit of sourness, spicy, zesty, and VERY aromatic, so if this up your alley, this is a sign to go!

We were sat in one of their private rooms that overlook the downstairs main area. The room was intimate and much quieter than the main dining room. The whole place has a great vibe to it. This restaurant has been bookmarked for me for years, and after seeing all the good reviews I had a certain level of expectation. We had a very different experience it seems, so not sure if we just went on a bad night or if we should try brunch instead of dinner, but I'm not inclined to give this place another try. I will try to keep to the top lines: 1) we were seated at 7 and didn't receive our food until 8:30. During this hour and a half, we were checked on by our server once for drinks, and once to place the order. Other than that, we were never spoken to or provided with updates on our food. We are generally pretty gracious and understanding if a restaurant is understaffed or experiencing delays for whatever reason, but no one let us know what was happening. For the price of the food, I would expect better hospitality - typically, restaurants of this caliber would explain the wait ahead of time or in the moment, and even provide free bread or something. Updates at the very least would have been appreciated. 2) while we waited 1.5 hours, staff came by at least three times asking if a dish was ours, then proceeding to ask multiple other tables the same question. It seems that the staff was all over the place. When we finally got our food, the server did not know who to give the food to, and kept trying to hand us the wrong dishes. This can be forgiven, but just added to the pattern of service being sloppy (for lack of a better term). To add to this, the host stand was also quite confused when we checked in and we witnessed a staff member tell their co host that they "should not be doing this job anymore" ..... 3) the food was okay, quite underwhelming. The biggest downfall was the steamed veggies that came with 2 of the 4 dishes. They were unseasoned veggies, the kind that come with hospital food or cheap hotel meals. Just plain steamed veggies. 1 star for the prawns and Chilean sea bass (the fish itself), 1 star for them trying
