Yum - who does not like a sushi burrito? This is more of a to-go place, not much setting. The staff were friendly. I got the roll with tuna poke and vegetables - lots of fresh veggies - could have a bit more tuna and less veggies but overall good. The price was $11, I think that $9 would have been a better price as you can get poke bowls closeby for under $10. read more

Meh...very mediocre rolls. Tried the Shinsen and Hawaiian. The Shinsen tasted a bit plain and the Hawaiian was very pickly tasting. The ingredients seem fresh but the fish seemed a bit questionable :/ Was a good try but don't think I"ll be back unfortunately. read more

Really friendly service! First impression when I walked in, nice decorations, quiet, not that many people (4pmish though), and didn't smell like anything or food :/ . I got the Kamikaze roll. YUMMO! Super fresh and flavorful. My mom and I had the Kabuki & the Kamakazi. The spicy tuna was fresh, spicy, delish and the turmeric daikon SO GOOD. Why haven't I made that? *note to self, get on it. Hers had a beet slaw in it that was so so good mixed w/the wasabi aioli. The portions though, jeez. Enormous. I ate half last night and brought the rest for lunch today. Really big! We'll so be back. read more

This sushi-rito is a new concept to me. It should arrive in my native New Hampshire by about 2020. I rolled into the place about 1:45 and it was pretty quiet. This was a good thing since the server could explain options. I settled on the Upstream. This was a great choice, a nice combination of crunch and smoothness. The rice and nori buffered the alioli and the shredded carrot were a sweet counterpoint to the fish. But don't put the thing down! It will disintegrate. Extra napkins are a good idea. It was the tail end of the lunch hour but the place was spotless. The staff were friendly and helpful. At 6:00 I was still uncomfortably full. read more

I dined at Sumo Roll for my birthday with a couple of my friends. The sushi was pretty good and I had an overall amazing experience. I definitely recommend trying their sushi burritos or their Lion King sushi rolls. The service was very considerate. They had gotten one of my friend's dishes wrong, but they were very flexible and remade the dish immediately. In addition, they provided us slices of cheesecake for free because of my birthday! Overall very good food and amazing staff. read more

This place was pretty good. I love how the allow you to make substitutions without charging you. I ordered the Hawaiian and the Crustacean. I LOVED the Hawaiian. I asked to add fresh jalapeños and they didn't do it. I would have asked for them on the side, but I took my food to-go. I was feeling free today, so I ordered another roll and it was the crustacean which was not my favorite at all. The dill overpowered the whole roll and I hated the fact that I had to waste it. It needed a bit of acid or spice to reduce the dill flavor... I would not order that again. Next time I wanna try the Baja! read more

Biggest sushi roll I ever had. Saw it on my way to work and had to check them out. It was filling that's for sure, there sauces and filling is a bit on tangy and light side. I was hoping for something a bit more savory but still not bad I would defiantly would not pass on a free burrito from them but till then I'll stick to a traditional one for now. read more

We must admit, the sushi-burrito concept wasn't ours (that honor goes to Sushiritto in San Francisco). But we are happy to follow their lead....offering healthy and hearty 'sumo'-sized sushi rolls to the Berkeley area. Come visit us when you're in the area!

We were, strike that....we are big fans of Sushiritto in San Francisco. They do a great job of bringing complimenting flavors into a burrito-style sushi roll. I think it is winter holiday , so there are not a lot of students living near campus, so the downtown of Berkeley is quiet. I visited Sumo Roll with my friend today. We had good experience. I created my own poke bowl because it is $8.50 before tax. I am afraid that there is few fish as previous reviews mention. So I add one more scoop of protein. It is $10.50 before tax. It was so tasty and reminded me of the now defunct Sushirito in SF but better. The salmon was fresh along with the crab salad it had some corn like some on my social media feed. It also had honey avocado sauce along with masago also known as Japanese caviar bumps. They also sell over a dozen types of sushi rolls. The secret is out at Sushi Secrets.
