    Volcano Pork Ramen

The ramen was incredibly delicious, and the service was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered.

Delicious Ramen. The miso vegetarian broth was super flavorful and delicious. The udon was nice and firm and chewy, just how i love my udon ramen. The portion was generous, and filled us up. The staff is very courteous and friendly. The price range for the ramen bowl was affordable as well. Cute spot, great for family. They have cute souvenirs. For purchase by the payment counter as well! The sake was delicious, and if you can not finish it, you can take it home as well. Great find!

Found this via yelp. It was close to my hotel in Chinatown and was very low key and chill which is what I was looking for with my luggage. The menu comes on a tablet and you can click through to see the individual pages and items. I have had ramen before but I'm also not too knowledgeable about it so I went with the classic soup with sliced pork and a water. The food comes out very fast. The soup was pretty tasty and hot but not too hot to not enjoy right away. The staff speaks English, if you're like me and ask before ordering. You can pay via cash or card.

They have lots of vegetarian ramen options, which can easily be made vegan, so that got me in the door. I ordered the imperial rolls (2 spring rolls; $3.50 plus tax), and the miso vegetable ramen with assorted veggies ($16.50 plus tax). The spring rolls came out within a few minutes, and the ramen came out within 10 minutes. The spring rolls were pretty lame -- mostly batter, with little filling, which was mostly cabbage. I wouldn't order these again. 2/5 The ramen was pretty decent. Their regular ramen noodles contain egg, so I got mine with thin rice noodles. The soup came with a nice variety of veggies, including green cabbage, bok choy, seaweed, corn, and carrots, and a drizzle of green onion. The noodles were generously portioned and cooked well. The broth -- the centrepiece of any ramen -- was OK, with a fairly salty miso base, but not the flavour complexity of a superior veggie ramen. It was tasty, just nothing special. 3/5 Go to Umami for truly excellent vegan ramens. This place is just solid. A decent spot.

As a traveler, I always try to explore Chinatown when I can. This place was all and all just okay. It was on the second level so you have to walk up 10 stairs or so to get seated in a pretty small establishment. The menu was simple, which I prefer. I'll be honest though, I was expecting more from the gyoza. The flavor was a little underwhelming. On the other hand, the Sumo Ramen with the peppered broth was really good and the pork wasn't bad as well.

Im a bit on the edge about this place. I want to give it a 4 stars for only 1 item that we've ordered here. The spicy beef stew ramen my gf ordered(upgraded to udon noodles) I ordered the shrimp ramen (upgraded to udon) and my bf ordered the mini sumo ramen (pork based) We also ordered kimchi which was nice as a side dish for the ramen soup. I tasted my order which was the shrimp ramen, it was ok... but the soup didnt have a shrimpy taste, it was pork based broth. They could of at least gave me chicken because i dont eat pork. When something smells a bit gamey to me, its a complete turn off. So i tasted my gf's spicy beef stew , that broth was perfectly seasoned. Just enough spice, salty, and beefy. We end up switching. I finished my soup within a couple minutes. The beef, the shrimp, the flavor of that specific broth, the beef pieces, and the spice was completely delicious. The bean sprout added the crunch factor which was tasty. The kimchi helped enhance the flavor a bit with more spice and sweetness from the Cabbage. Be ware if u dont like onions, there are lots of onions in the kimchi and some in the broth of their soup. I wana give it a 4/5 only becuz of the beef stew, other than that, overall its a 3.5/5 Very basic ramen place. I would come here again for the spicy beef stew broth . Good job impressing me Sumo Ramen. Montréal has you as a hidden gem in China town.

This is the third ramen shop I've ever visited, so read this as a ramen newbie review. It didn't beat the one in Calgary, but best in Montreal. A lot of options and we went with spicy pork and a shrimp ramen dish. Both were very tasty and well balanced in texture of ingredients. Would eat here again easily. It was late, but the place was packed so it's a good sign. Pictures posted

Haven't had a bowl of ramen that I didn't even finish half of in a while. The noodles were too thin and not chewy or consistent enough. The spicy shoyu broth was not thick enough for my taste. I didn't even finish the chashu (which NEVER happens) because more than half of it was fat. Only the egg was somewhat enjoyable. The food was 1/5, I'll add 1 star for the service which was not bad and relatively fast. The price is pretty standard for ramen. Note: only debit and cash accepted.

Sumo Ramen is some damn fine buttery ramen and izakaya with a convenient location to boot. Seriously, I could have eaten here at least three more times during my one week stay this year in Montreal. Every morning, I would wake up craving Sumo's delicate creamy broth. Drinking it up with the large ladle they provide makes the entire experience even more amuzing. Upgrade to the shio ramen and you will thank me later. Me personally, in the future I am saying yes to corn and no to bean sprouts. I believe the owners are from Hong Kong, however this is some mighty fine Japanese style ramen! The izakaya dishes are also praise worthy, rivaling even some of the most popular Manhattan 8th Street establishments in my book. The Takoyaki was absoulutely perfect in every way, even the inside was cooked to perfection. They also even serve bubble tea of the milky variety. I don't think that they will make it into a smoothy for you, so don't even bother with that one. We arrived so early that the boba was not even ready yet, so I went with a large frothy taro sans boba.

This place is located on the second floor on the Main Street in China town. My sister and I shared a porc ramen bowl, a takoyaki plate, and some edamame. All were okay in taste. We sat by the window so we had a nice view of St-Laurent. Prices were was fair and staff was friendly!

Amazing prices and great ramen!! I ordered the volcano ramen as is and it was really tasty. So much food for such a low price! The food is super tasty and the prices can't be beat. I stopped by here on a Tuesday night and it was still bustling. I can imagine that it gets very crowded on the weekend. They accept credit cards (not Amex) and there's an ATM if you need to grab cash. This place is located at the far end of Chinatown and up a staircase lined with Christmas lights. I highly recommend if you like ramen and are in the area!

Sumo Ramen was a pretty good experience- I had never been to a place that sold solely ramen until I went there. The server was very nice and friendly. He made suggestions for appetizers. We decided on octopus balls. I've never had those either until then. They were pretty good! The ramen is also very good. It was a bit blend for me but they do have sauces on the table for extra taste to it.

    Beef curry.

Sumo Ramen. Should have went with ramen? Since my friends were trying the ramen, I went with the beef curry. Big disappointment. It did not taste like Japanese curry I've had elsewhere. It was just yellow gravy with a tad of spiciness. The slices of beef did not help either. It didn't look like the picture on the menu. The ramen noodles do not look like authentic ramen, more like Chinese noodles. We also had the okonomiyaki. There was no description, but it taste like takoyaki in pancake form, a little bit of octopus. They also offered bubble tea. I don't think that's Japanese. As some other yelpers have mentioned, this is probably a Chinese-own establishment. The service was a little slow. It took a while for the waitress to take our orders.

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! The staff are very friendly and quick. Give it a try! They have multiple locations, especially if you're looking for something new, yet comforting.

I didn't like the pork that much and found it a bit tough and gamey, but they do have two other types of meat (chicken, beef) as well as a vegetarian option available, as well as seasonal menu specials. The Ramen - noodles were perfectly cooked, however honestly package ramen had a better flavor than their Original pork ramen unfortunately. I had expected this rich and creaminess of the pork broth, that was sticky-lipped intensifying, but it was not. This was disappointing and thus can only give 2 stars. I can't say for other noodle type, but original pork ramen needs a lot of work.

I thought I had pre-booked a reservation, and we were running late. Parking in this area can be a trick. I dropped my wife off and continued to locate parking.
