gyoza
Alec Y.

It's okay quality ramen. Prices are affordable ($11 ramen + $4 side). I went there on a Saturday around 2PM and there wasn't any lineup at all - got seated quickly. Took around 5 mins before they took my order or gave me water though. I ordered the Tonkotsu Kuro Mayu and gyoza! I wished there was more black garlic oil in the ramen. I remember the soup being pretty salty too. Overall, the food did the job and wasn't anything exceptional. I would go here again as an affordable ramen option if I was already on the area and didn't want to venture too far for a better place.

Ichifuku is the right combination of quality and price. The servers were courteous, the food came out promptly and it was delicious. We started with an order of edamame and an order of gyoza. This was followed by the hot & sour vegetarian ramen and the miso with chicken ramen. The ingredients were fresh and the food was flavorful. The seating is limited so timing is everything. We got there a little after 5pm and were seated immediately. Shortly after we arrived a line started to form and by the time we left it was out the door. The decor and furnishings are utilitarian and basic...but if you're dining here, it's because of the food and not the ambience.

Came in this afternoon to try since there was so many great reviews. My husband and I are long time ramen lovers and have traveled everywhere trying ramen. We hope this review with hope that the restaurant takes it as constructive critique and find ways to improve. We ordered the Karaage garlic and ginger to start, tonkatsu black garlic ramen, and the Volcano Ramen special medium spicy (this one was recommended by the server). Took a while before we could order. We were looking around as the workers were running around as they were a little busy with delivery/pick up orders it seem. The Karaage was not traditional. Big pieces of fried chicken. Sitting in garlic ginger sauce. Tasted good. We ask for some Japanese mayo but we were told everything was homemade and that they didn't have mayo (mayo can be easily homemade but we didn't make a big fuss), so not the traditional way it is usually served. It tasted good but it could of been better and crispier if the Chicken was cut into bite size pieces instead of 4-5 bites pieces. The ramen came out next. We really like the freshly made noodles. The tonkatsu was really different and interesting with the black garlic. Tasty! The Volcano ramen on the other hand was a different story. First off it was not spicy. Tasted exactly like noodles in Kimchi juice except kimchi is way more flavorful then this bowl of ramen. The volcano tasted like it was missing something, or a lot of things, lacked depth, as if all the chef did was mixed broth with Korean chili pepper flakes. And to top it all off the poached egg was a bit over cooked as the yolk tasted chalky. I ate half of my black garlic ramen and then offered my husband to trade and try his other half of the Volcano ramen (because no one should have to go through a whole bowl of terrible ramen) We don't judge food base on the service, so one star was for the black garlic was not bad and honorary star for the ordinarily fried chicken attempt at trying to be a Japanese Tori Karaage, and another star for friendly service but we found it odd that no one checked or ask if everything was ok until the very end when we told them our honest opinion about the ramen.

This is a solid place in Montreal for Ramen, for to be honest, there are better ones. Service was good, and the plates were big, so you will not leave hungry from there.

Came here on a Friday afternoon. Not much people inside the place. The waitress greeted us friendly and let us to the table. We placed our order not too long after but to our surprise when there weren't much people in the restaurant and they have 4 people working in the kitchen. Our food took forever!! The ladies came after us and ordered after us got their food first! And we all ordered ramen. My fiancé even ordered COLD noodle. We guessed that they want to give us our food all at once. But I didn't know ramen or cold noodle would take so long to make. I though the soup base, meat and miscellaneous are pre-made! We only order a ramen, cold noodle and pan fried dumplings. Was that a lot of food? Dumpling came fast but they aren't fried the same (different sides) felt a bit unprofessional; a 10 years old can do a better job. The waitress noticed our uneasiness and kept apologizing whenever she brings us the food and thanks us for the patience. She did a good job thus the stars. The decor was okay, I find it comfy and I overly decorated. The food was okay, but nothing special. Less oily compare to other ramen place and also less toppings as well. Overall, food was filling but the wait was ridiculous for so little customers and for many people for in the kitchen. I don't think we'll be back again.

This is a nice place for ramen downtown. The prices are more than fair , you get lots of tasty food for your money. The atmosphere is cozy and casual . While service is a little slow they're very welcoming and friendly. The ramen is really flavourful and satisfying , the piece of barbeque pork inside is quite large and very tasty and well cooked lots of meat not just fat, the noodles had great texture and really absorb the flavour (they are made in house which is a nice touch and makes a difference), the broth is good as well nice and rich.Their Gyoza dumping and fried chicken appetizers were both delish! I really enjoyed it here and can see myself coming back .

Karaage and rice

TLDR: Fantastic Kaarage and nonexistent service. A friend and I arrived at the restaurant to a queue of two couples, and the servers gave no mind to the line forming at the door. There were two spots at the bar, which my friend and I were happy to take when we learned the others only wanted tables, but we couldn't get any of the servers' attention. After waiting for twenty minutes, we weren't in a rush, three tables freed up and everyone in the line was seated. I decided to get the ramen combo with a miso chicken broth base and kaarage as my side. I also got a Sapporo to was it all down. The Kaarage was phenomenal, which is why I gave this restaurant three instead of two stars. It was juicy, crispy, and tangy all at the same time, and the fluffy rice underneath soaked up all the leftover flavour. If you go here, you have to get the kaarage. My ramen wasn't to my taste, but I can understand how it would be to the taste of others. I should have gone with the Shoyu broth, but I wanted to try the miso and I found the broth to be unbalanced. The in-house noodles were very chewy and felt underdone, but I guess some could say it had a bite to it. The ramen came with corn, mushrooms, tender pork, spring onions, and half an egg which lacked a runny yolk. One compliment I can give the ramen is that it is very filling. The servers are clearly very nice people but they were unaware of the needs of their customers. I only had my water filled at the beginning of my meal and it was impossible to get a refill as they walked around with their eyes to the ground. With tax and tip, my meal came out to just under $24. Would I come here again? Only if I had a friend who really only wanted to go to Ichifuku. There are too many places in Montreal to try for this restaurant to warrant a second visit on my own volition.

A nice place for ramen !!! I ordered volcano ramen. It was very spicy. The soupe was pretty thick. It was a very heavy ramen with deep fried chicken...but it tasted so gooood!!

Tonkotsu ramen

Tonkotsu broth was PERFECT. I usually never finish my ramen broth, but this time I loved every bit of it. It was rich and flavourful, but not too salty. You can tell a a lot of time and effort was put into making that broth. Noodles were awesome too, not like those knockoff instant noodle types. They don't go overboard with the toppings, because the basics of a good ramen is the most important. Also, service was lightning fast! Food came in a jiffy too. Wow. Still dreaming about that broth.

Came here twice and have some mixed feelings about this place. The first time i took the tan tan men and the broth as well as the noodles were perfectly made. The noodles were very chewy and the broth was very flavorful. The second time, i took the volcano ramen. It was way too salty and it was hard to finish it. Didnt want to risk getting hypertension or acute kidney disease... The service was good until a large group people came in. They started serving only them and it took us 30 minutes just to get the bill. Overall the place is ok, but first experience was way better than the second one.

This restaurant just opened yesterday! It is a small restaurant (I would say ~25 seats included the bar) and they have 8 selections of ramen on their menu (they also have rice, appetizers, dessert, beers, etc. But my friend and I didn't get anything else). I would like to try their karaage next time (when I'm not sick)! I got their tonkotsu ramen; I like their thin noodles which reminds me of those at Ippudo (one of my favorite ramen restaurants)! I wish my noodles were more under-cooked since towards the end, I find that my noodles were too soft (I like it chewier and firmer). It would be great if we can pick the texture (firmness and softness of our noodles). Their soft-boiled egg was too cooked (the york wasn't even partially liquid but the egg white part was really soft and tender). Their chashu (BBQ pork) was soooo tender that it really melts in your mouth (the piece was quite thick). This compensates for the over-cooked soft-boiled egg! My soup had a little bit of chicken flavor, which was a bit weird since I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. I think they might have mixed the pork and chicken broth together. The soup was also not thick/rich enough.. But then, the good thing about this fact is, the broth is not too salty! I'm more used to ramen from Asia (Ippudo, Ichiran, Butao, Tonchin, etc.) So I find that my tonkotsu is lacking flavour, but be assured that I'm not a fan of salty ramen. I think saltiness and flavor is too different things. I would give this a 3.5/5. The service was really fast, we didn't wait a long time before receiving our ramen! I think the noodles are home-made since they have this big noodle-making-machine in front of the restaurant.

Japanese food appears to be one of the booming trends in Montreal Asian food in the last few years. Many large cities in North America saw the boom in the last while based on the popularity of Sushi then Izakaya. Ichifuku is a strong contender for top echelon ramen in MTL. Located on St Cath W there is a plethora of Asian restaurants. I decided after trying Yokato Yokabai to come test another ramen joint, so I came here. The first thing you notice as you enter Ichifuku is the industrial looking noodle machine at the front of the restaurant. It's a clear indication of serious intent to bring fresh ingredients and quality to the establishment. In Japan (when I visited 16 years ago) Ramen is taken seriously. It's akin to how North American carnivores (and usually men) take steakhouses seriously. The restaurant is brightly lit and clean and feeling like it was a diner in another era. For my lunch I went with the Tonkatsu kuro mayu soup. At $11 it's very reasonably priced. It came out piping hot a few small slices of pork, scallion half soft boiled eggs and a beautiful milky buttery garlic broth. Overall the soup was a strong 3.75/5. I did find the soup not as hearty as other ramen places. The noodles were a good texture of chewy and definitely fresh. I was a bit dissapointed as for condiments it only came with shichimi togarashi (dry chilli). It would have been nicer with fresh condiments. Go ahead and charge me $2 more the fresh condiments would be better. Overall with tax it came to $12.65. I would come back here and try another soup as they had lots of selection on the menu. Service was courteous and expedient.

Friendly service and good tasting ramen. Also, their Gyozas are super tasty, the best in Montreal! Ramen has chicken soup based or pork soup based. I personally prefer the pork soup as it is more thick and flavourful but I am sure their chicken soup is good as well. The ramen noodles come in different thickness, request your favourite thickness!

Miso ramen! Delightfully savory, a bit too salty, but the umami flavour was pleasant. Huge portion, beware!

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! The staff are very friendly and quick. Give it a try! They have multiple locations, especially if you're looking for something new, yet comforting.

I stopped by around 8:45 PM, 15 minutes before they closed, but the staff were so kind and lovely, let me dine in, gave me a free drink on the house, and even told me to take my time and not worry about closing. I ordered the spicy garlic pork ramen with thick noodles, and I was blown away with how flavorful the broth and QQ (chewy) the noodles were. I didn't like the pork that much and found it a bit tough and gamey, but they do have two other types of meat (chicken, beef) as well as a vegetarian option available, as well as seasonal menu specials. If I was at McGill, I'd probably visit this spot a bit too often LOL, and I highly recommend checking them out for their comforting ramen bowls and incredibly kind service!

The Ramen - noodles were perfectly cooked, however honestly package ramen had a better flavor than their Original pork ramen unfortunately. I had expected this rich and creaminess of the pork broth, that was sticky-lipped intensifying, but it was not. This was disappointing and thus can only give 2 stars. I can't say for other noodle type, but original pork ramen needs a lot of work.

Once seated, things happen very quickly...it is go, go, go (in the best possible way.) Green beans were everyone's fave, but I have to mention the (pickled?) vegetables on the salad. So flavourful! Also tried the egg drop soup which is so tasty. Mains were the salmon tuna bowl, the beef short ribs, the shrimp burger, and 48 hour pork with curry sauce. Everything was wonderful! The gyoza came topped with green onions and was SO crispy and hot and was perfect with their soy sauce. I thought sea bass was wonderful with a unique almost smoky flavor that melted in my mouth paired with the slightly sweet sticky rice. The barbecue chicken was great as well and better the next day. One thing I don't really understand is why they served plain flour tortillas cut into quarters with their food. We didn't utilize this, nor the white butter/mayo sauce that came alongside it.
