Buuuuttt...I'm very disappointed in their [complete lack of] willingness to negotiate on a car that has sat on their lot since January. They would not budge on their online advertised price, saying it was already discounted (well yeah, it's sat for over 90 days, of course they had to discount it), but there's no way that advertised price is still anywhere close to the wholesale price they paid for it. After getting an out the door price and failing to bring it down, I asked about a trade in for my current car, to which they offered well below the bottom end of the range for trade in on Kelly Blue Book. They are unresponsive. I have to go in person to the site to get some service. I understand that they are busy, but so are we. We feel extremely frustrated and disappointed. This Subaru dealership is a scam. I was looking at a 2017 used civic in their used section of the lot. They had a civic with around 20,000 miles and it was priced at $16,000. I told the salesman that I was prepared to pay for the car in cash. I told him I will be buying the car in about a week and that I didn't need him to hold the car. The reason it would be a week is because I needed to withdraw money from my stocks. The salesman told me that he needed to run my credit even though I was going to be a cash buyer. He said he worked at Honda before Subaru and all the dealerships were required to run credit for cash purchases. As a first time cash buyer I didn't know the salesman was not being honest with me. He then ran my credit and told me I had to sign a contract that I would be paying 9% interest on the car if I didn't pay cash within a week. I had already informed the salesperson and the finance manger, it would be a week or more until my stock investments cleared and then were deposited into my account. I never asked them to hold the car for me and I was not prepared to buy the car the same day, as I didn't have the cash yet. They were very pushy. I also asked the salesman for a carfax and if there was warranty. He ensured me he would get me both. He never produced either and they shoved a paper in my face with an extended warranty for $3600 and $1000 for a security system, which I told them I would never pay for. They kept pushing the "option contract" and I told them I would only pay in cash Multiple times. They even had my name up on the whiteboard, the only name for the whole day. This week my car died, and needing a replacement, I test drove the Subaru Outback and Forester. Both are very nice cars, but I ended up going in a different direction, purchasing a RAV4 across the street from this dealership. I have had it with Subaru El Cajon. The service department is terrible. It started out with our first 2 service visits taking hours longer than they were supposed to. We kept going there because we had purchased the car from them and at least when the service time estimates were wrong my wife could walk to the mall and shop while she waited. On I believe my third visit for an oil change the Tech forgot to tighten the drain plug on my STI and it gradually loosened up until I pulled into my work and parked. After about 4 hours I came out to see all of the new oil from the motor all over my parking lot (have a lovely stain to remind me of that day still) I called Subaru El Cajon to let them know what happened and the service adviser told me he could not help me and I had to call Subaru road side assistance. After waiting 4 hours they showed up and towed my car to Carlsbad Subaru since it was the closest dealership to me. Carlsbad would not give me a loner car so I had to go rent one on my dime. Once I returned to Carlsbad Subaru I had to pay for the new oil change on my dime as the second one that week was not covered under my factory service. I then Had to Submit my receipts to Subaru El Cajon and wait for my reimbursement. The Final Straw was last week when I went in for an oil change and rear brake warranty. Upon returning to my office I parked the car, pulled the e-brake linked to my fresh rear brakes, jumped out closed my door and the car proceeded to roll away! E-brake has nothing! I then called Subaru El Cajon over the next few days never reaching an actual person in service so I left a message for my Service provider. I then E-mailed him and a week later still have no response. Don't expect them to sell you a vehicle and leave the lot with gas in the car. They refused to put gas in the truck we purchased because it wasn't a new vehicle?! I have never heard of this incredibly crappy customer service tactic. We were told that "putting gas in used vehicles is a loss to the dealership". I laughed out loud, that is so absurd and makes your dealership look cheap and scammy. I've made plenty of used and new purchases over the years and was always given a clean, floor matted, and full tank when leaving the lot. We get that the vehicle was traded in with no matts that's why most dealerships provide their oThis is just the cherry on a long, irritating, over drawn shopping experience. I can't believe we drove from another state for this fiasco. UPDATE: their business manager replies to yelp reviews saying to contact him at his email address. His email address only accepts emails from people with their company. So I suppose it's just a tactic to make it look like they care. UPDATE: We found out that the sales associate lied to us about the cost difference between paying in CA and Arizona. When we called discuss the lie and overcharged the Sales Manager Mike Misvrener proceeded to loudly talk over my husband and when I got on the phone, most likely because I'm a woman, I told firmly to let us speak and he hung up the phone. The cost difference was about $700 and we were told it was only $100. We also told them when we arrived at the dealership we would only want to pay taxes in Arizona and the sales associate said, "No problem, as long as you drive straight to Arizona." NOW their argument is that the only way that would've happened is if we got a notary and put the vehicle on a flat bed. Both times, I walked around for about 10 minutes before even finding someone and both times I was treated as though the person helping me just lost in a game of rock-paper-scissors. On my first visit, I was not given an offer to test drive and the sales person spent around 15 minutes with me tops before he told me to have a nice afternoon. Since my research always leads me back to an interest in the Subaru Forester, I went back a second time, hoping to deal with a new person with a more positive overall experience. Unfortunately, I was met with the same unwelcoming empty lot and when I did finally find help, the sales person left me for 20 minutes to find the keys of two separate cars, both of which I was not offered an opportunity to test drive. My approach the second time was more aggressive, and I told the sales person to show me what he can sell to me today. He did not even try to peak my interest and acted as though I was a waste of his afternoon time. I recently purchased a used vehicle from your Subaru El Cajon dealership the evening of Saturday the 19th of May. When I arrived I informed the sales rep that I wanted to buy the vehicle and pay taxes in my home state (AZ). The rep said it would be fine. When we were finalizing the sale a different rep came in and told me that in order to do that I would have to pay the dealer to transport the vehicle to the state line and have a notary sign for the vehicle. It was late and I had no way of doing the research at the time. The next Monday while at home I called the CA DMV and it turns out that I could have paid for a permit to drive straight to AZ. I also called AZ DMV and I found out I would have paid about $1400 less in taxes. I also left the lot with an empty gas tank (0) miles to left and no floor mats. I had the best experience with the amazing staff at Subaru EC. I was looking for a white 2019 STi Limited and turned out there were none in the county. Their GM, Beau, was able to locate one a couple hundred miles away and had the car brought in just for me. That's what I call customer service! The paper sign on the door said new hours close on Saturday at 4pm. I arrive back at 3:15, and they are all locked up. I recently purchased a vehicle for my son. I decided to leave the car at the dealer for another week as the car is a surprise present. Also the cars alignment was off. The seller assured me that it will be taken care of and ready for pick up when I pick it up a week later. We showed up ready to pick the car and first of it only has 15 miles left on the gas tank; second the car had bird pooped all over the hood and dusty and it didn't look like it was washed inside. We decided to just take the car as is, but then driving it home the alignment was still off. We decided to go back and leave the car again. I was assured that it will be taken care of. Picked it up next day and the alignment is still off. Since we needed to give the car for grad present as a surprise I decided to take the car home and emailed a rep from this dealership. I ended up emailing my finance manager Cody Stoecker of the issue. For the first time dealing with this dealer, he was the only one who responded to me promptly and mind you he was on vacation. He set up the appointment for the car to be taken care of and advised me he will provide me with a gas card when I bring the car back. Out of all the sales and receptionists that works there, Cody was the only one who was communicating with me, updating me and working with me. As a big dealer place they need to improve their customer service. Just because a customer already signed on a dotted line doesn't mean you shouldn't help that person anymore. A good service would ensure the customer would be satisfied fairly for their purchase. After all thousands of dealer and that customer chose your and gave you business. The dealer place is neat and clean, the process of applying was smooth only because of Cody Stoecker. Everyone else that works there was just ready to shrug us off and not even deal with us just cause a sale is already made. After multiple emails with Cody only then the workers started to contact me and work with me about my car whereas when I was there in person no one was willing to help us and seems like most are on "vacation and not available". I give this place a 3 Star, 2 of those star goes only to Cody Stoecker! The place itself gets 1 for not taking care of their customer. I would recommend this place only if you will work directly with Cody Stoecker, finance manager. Worst Subaru dealership in San Diego. Go anywhere else. Came in a few months ago and met with Juan to look at a Subaru Crosstrek. They had some in which is surprise for the time so we sat down to discuss pricing. They have an added $5,000 on top of MSRP. They claim "every dealership has these added because of the crazy market" but as someone who just bought a new Crosstrek with zero added fees, I can confirm that's not true. 2,500 of it is just "market place mark ups" which they quickly said they could remove, but the remaining was a alarm system that cant be deactivated, a paint job, and door edges. They claimed these were all set prices because they were already installed. Juan also came back with outrageous LEASING numbers. At least 200 more a month than what I'm paying now and I'm FINANCING. This place is sleazy and just here to rip people off. I got a text from the manager where I aired my grievances with him and got no response, just a text a little while later saying they had new cars in. I would check out other dealerships, even if you have to wait for your car to get in, it's not worth your time to deal with a deal ship like this. read more

If I can give zero stars for both sales and service department I would. First of all, I took my car here for the first time and def last time to do a service. Uhm Francisco tried his hardest to charge me tire rotation fee and installing a new tires for all four old tires. Just because I'm a woman I don't know anything about cars. Literally my check engine service came on after a week, after me paying $800 for all the service I thought I need according to them. Cool I don't mind paying as long as my car is well maintained. It's just odd that for how many years I owned my Subaru I never saw the check engine light came on. But after paying $800 to the service department just to do regular monthly maintenance plus new tires, my car's check engine light came on. They said since it's already got cleared out and check engine light is already off, when I changed my oil they said it should be fine. I'm still currently driving my car since they said it is safe to drive. Either way bring it back to us when the check engine service light comes on. They don't want to fix it or even take a look at what's wrong with it. I believe those guys jack my car or did something with it those three days that they have my car. I would like to file a lawsuit for this company when I get a chance. Seriously my car was fine before I took it to service but after a week or so my service engine light came on. What in the world happens to Subaru is all about safety, then they have the nerve to tell me maybe I didn't put the cap back correctly for my gas. I just need two appraisal comparison one from Subaru and carmax regardless I would still buy the car regardless. If I do come back here I'll definitely request any dealer but not Juan. Worst service department i've come across with. So i just bought my car like last year 2018 of sept. And then on march 2019 i had my oil change here in this dealership that was saturday afternoon. Now, after they did my oil change when i thought everything was okay, i'm on my way back home when i suddenly noticed that something is smoking around my hood. First i thought it was nothing but then later on i already smelled like something is burning. Then i stopped pop my hood up and notice that my oil cap wasn't there. Afterwards i called them back telling them what happened they told me to bring my car back to their department so they can fix it but around that time they were closed. So i left my car there, asked them if they can give me a courtesy car to use because i didn't have car to use to drive back home. But unfortunately theu couldn't lend me one. They just told me that they have a shuttle to bring me back home until they fix my car. And i told them that i need to go to work and didn't have a car to use for work. I didn't wanna rent a car or pay for something i'm not even responsible for why i ended not having a car to use. Then on a weekday i talked to the service manager he was sorry. I asked him what happened? And he told me one of his so called certified technicians forgot to put the oil cap on. I was like my car is new i only been using it for a few months. And you're telling me they just forgot to put the oil cap back? And he was like i'm sorry and then offered me a free exterior detail that didn't make sense. Here is an email I sent to the GM, I'm listing it as my review. Good Evening Sir, earlier this week my wife and I into your dealership to take a look at a used vehicle you had. Nick Hill was our sales guy and he was great. Personable, knowledgeable and genuine. Unfortunately our experience with your Manager Gus was not as pleasant. From the get go Gus was rude and arrogant. My wife was playing a bit of hardball with him on the price but she was only firm not rude. We left the dealership that night without a deal. My wife called twice this week to find out if the truck was out of "recon" yet. She was told once by a female employee that the engine had a knock and would be going to auction. Just to have Nick call her 5 minutes later and say that the truck was ready to be sold if we were still interested. We returned tonite to look at the vehicle again. Immediately Nick came out to greet us and help us out. He must have told Gus that we were here. Unbeknownst to Gus or Nick, my wife's cousin was with us. She happened to overhear arrogant Gus say to Nick "what do they want another fucking discount." I've never been to your dealership before this week. I'm almost certain that this is not the type of professionalism that Subaru of El Cajon fosters with their employees. We just left the dealership at 7:10 on Friday November 10. What an experience! For starters we are a younger military family and came in knowing exactly what we wanted. We were spoken to like we were stupid throughout this entire experience. They refused to come down much on their asking price (which is fine) but when we got an offer that we were actually okay with and had planned to come in to sign paperwork, i asked the sales manager to email me the offer they had gave my husband over the phone. I wasn't going to post just yet, until after hearing back from the dearship - via a message on their website, but I thought it best to offer a HEADS UP on a couple things, after reading 5 pages of bad reviews... First, they charge $140 an hour labor. Battery was replaced - a reasonable $144, but INSTALLATION was $77.50 for a 10-minute (or less) job. Engine air filter was replaced - I had inspected it a month ago during an oil change, looked near new. That was $19.95, plus $20 labor - for a 5-minute R/R. Cabin air filter was also replaced, at $26.95, $30 labor. Now, the REAL KICKER of this deal is that both engine air and cabin air filters were replaced last September - 6 months and 13,000 miles EARLIER, diring a 90k service at a Subaru dealer in LA County! I guess they couldn't make enough profit from a $360 front brake job, and a new battery. Her mistake was NOT asking for the old parts back, or checking with me, before authorizing the work. Their mistake was pulling this stunt, and ME catching them! Has me wondering how many other people got BURNED paying for un-necessary parts and labor - people that trusted them to be honest, do the RIGHT thing??? I will pursue this through ALL available avenues - Subaru of America, B.A.R., until the Service Department is SHUT DOWN COLD. read more

I can not even begin to express how over satisfied I am with this dealership. From value and price to the incredible customer service. I should call it complete customer care. I never imagined giving a car dealership this kind of rating but I can honestly tell you that I unequivocally recommend Subaru of El Cajon. From Mikey and Cameron in Finance to Zack and Travis in sales I was treated like a king. My credit was damaged about a year ago but that did not affect the level of care I received. No pressure other than a great deal offered. My decision came down to this one question.... Why wouldn't I take this deal? So I had no reason not to. I don't know if I will ever shop for a vehicle elsewhere... I mean, why would I ??? I mean this from the bottom of my heart, you have to come in and give them a shot. Update: Had to edit my two star review to a one star today. Apparently they read my review, so I just received a phone call from a representative at the dealership who called to tell me that the car I looked at got sold a few hours after I left. She then proceeded to try to get me to buy another car from them. No thanks. I'll buy somewhere else. Prior review: Just wasted three hours here. Long story short, found a car that I was interested in buying, but the price was a little high for my budget. I told them that, but they said they may be able to work with me, so they invited me in. I sat down with them and had to fill out 45 mins of paperwork before they were finally able to make me an offer that was still not within my budget, so we agreed that I should go to another place that was selling the exact same car for $1,200 cheaper. That was all fine. Good enough experience at that point. But as I'm literally driving off the lot, the manager waves me down and convinces me to come back inside. I reluctantly did. He made me another offer that was still not within my budget, but it was pretty close, so I agreed. He left me there at the desk and said he would have to call his managers to get the ok. 15 mins goes by, 20 mins goes by, 25 mins goes by...hasn't come back. At that point I get up from the desk and walk around a little bit. The guy's sitting down with another customer talking about another car. Never even came back. Another salesperson finally comes over after they notice me walking around in boredom and tells me that someone else just made an appointment to come see the car. Probably would have let me sit there all day while they wait for other customers if I hadn't gotten up. Wasted so much time there that I actually ran out of time to go see another car I was looking at. I'll buy somewhere else. read more

Per their "meet or beat" offer, I sent in TWO quotes on a Crosstrek from other dealers. They weren't willing to even come close to the offers!! What BS and has been a total waste of my time I've missed out on 2 other Crosstreks from other dealerships because of this. All I can say is WOW read more

DO NOT go to this dealership. I was LIED to by one of their sales men Jack Manchester. I was told that the car I bought had blindspot safety monitors, when it did not have them. When I realized I didn't have the blindspot monitors, Subaru has done NOTHING to resolve their mistake. Not feeling the "Subaru Love" at all. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more
