One month in to the new Summit Everett so it's time for a review! First off I'd like to say that I am very happy Summit Everett is here and I'll be continuing my membership with them for the foreseeable future. Opening a rock gym in downtown Everett is not an easy venture and it's very cool that it exists. The facility is very nice. It is clean, well lit, in good order and with 24hr access it's got all the right stuff to make a gym attractive. Whether you are climbing or using the regular weights and treadmill its a very good space. Since their move they transitioned to just bouldering from both bouldering and top rope and I think this was a good move. It makes the walls in the gym more accessible to everyone and can introduce more people to climbing. I won't call bouldering an intro to top rope like some folks but it is easier to get into and I think this switch was the right move. So what could be improved? A quick note about me so you can tell where I'm coming from. I'm at Summit for the rock walls and haven't used the weights or tread mills. I'm a climber since I was young and have an ankle handicap since birth. This means I'm about a 5.12-/v5 climber and won't excel too much beyond that. Including Summit Everett I have climbed four gyms in the PNW both bouldering and ropes and those skill levels are pretty consistent. At Summit I cap at a v4, somewhere between their yellow and blue bands. Summit sets hard. This makes it a very difficult place for beginners. The Vermin scale has a lot of wiggle room so it isn't that they aren't setting according to scale it's that within the scale they set about as hard as they can. You will not find a VB route here. If you are coming from anywhere else in the area kick your climbing level down a notch. My experience is that Summit is also largely a test of physical prowess. Technique and problems solving are not as stressed. The routes meet their difficulty level based on whether you have the strength for a dynamic movement, can grip a hold, or have the reach to progress. I have yet to fail to complete a route at because I didn't think through it correctly or didn't have the technique. These challenges are as important to a skilled climber as the raw physical. Lastly, more wall space. The more options to climb the better. The weekly updates are good but more options would be awesome. This is a big ask for the recently reopened gym so I realize this likely isn't something that can be quickly fixed but I wanted to put it out there because I think it would be very beneficial. Overall, I'm very happy that. Summit Everett is here and I'm looking forward to my time there and seeing the gym grow! Thank you Summit! read more

I can't speak on the climbing part of the gym, but the gym itself isn't worth it. The parking is atrocious, there is hardly any gym equipment, and the bathroom situation is pretty ridiculous. Thanks for the small roll of medical tape as a "check in reward" though. read more

I started coming to Summit in Jan 2021 only as a way to get some exercise, that damn quarantine 20 hit me hard. I honestly didn't expect to love it. In 6 months I have seen improvement and find myself doing things that I thought would take me years to learn. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, if you ever have a question they're more than happy to help. I also didn't expect my child to love it. Kids can be fickle when it comes to their interest but after one round of classes my 6 year old is getting over her fear of heights and has more noticeable self confidence when it comes to climbs. Tl:dr Friendly staff, great climbs, fairly inexpensive, and great for families. The bad reviews are not an accurate representation of what we have experienced in the almost 7 months we have been coming to Summit. read more

Summit is a really good gym. There are plenty of different top rope, lead, and bouldering routes that get changed out often enough that you won't get bored but will have plenty of time to work through a problem that you're stuck on. Pricing is very reasonable. During the pandemic you climb by appointment and social distance. The gym is clean and the staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. read more

First time here and climbing in general. Met up with friends who have climbed before who would teach us. Regardless it was our first time. Guy at the front desk with glasses was very rude and acted as if we should know how to check in and made unnecessary comments - he was unprofessional throughout. They also offer military discount, clearly written on their price board, yet he was so hesitant to give it. Come to find out, he only gave the discount to my husband for some reason, but I had showed my ID too.. Maybe he is having a bad day, I hope. The gym itself is great! Clean facility , clean bathroom. Summary: As a business, Summit is very unprofessional, untrained, disorganized, and clueless when something doesn't fit the script. I have had multiple occasions when they published a deal on their web site and when i got there the untrained employee who didn't know details just made something up and caused a bad experience. (Ex: ladies night, student night, etc..) Also the "guest passes"; the first time i tried using mine the employee at the desk couldn't figure it out and my friend had to pay to use the gym and it took me three days of phone calls to "clear it up" by escalating up to someone who actually had a clue how the computer system works. Side note the "clear it up" solution did NOT end up getting my friend his money back. He's never coming back thats for sure. The final death nail for me was when I came down with a bad illness and asked for them to work with me by putting my monthly dues on hold even though the month was already a couple weeks in but they refused telling me "i had plenty chances to call in before the month started" except i was BED RIDDEN and calling the gym wasn't my top priority. Bad business decision to tell a customer with a serious illness too bad. When i get better I'm definitely not going back to Summit. Do yourself a big favor and sign up at VERTICAL WORLD, they have a new location opening up near by. read more

We came here with our kids before it was Summit and enjoyed the challenging courses and friendly staff! Now, I know I will never do business with Summit. Too bad . . . they were all looking forward to some springtime climbing. The owner was frustrated with my car parked in the alley on a Saturday morning while we were having coffee at the Loft -- excellent place! -- and instead of calling the police, he placed a large bin of HEAVY equipment on the hood of my SUV. When I asked him to remove it he SCRAPED it off the hood dragging it across the hood. Sad behavior from a business owner. It left my son and I reeling and shocked. read more

Smaller than my home climbing gym, but it will do when I'm staying in Mukilteo. I like that the walls are high for top rope climbs. The ratings are similar to what I am used too. Have been going to this place since phase two of COVID and they've been really accommodating with scheduling and restrictions. My family has loved their friendly staff who have gone above a beyond to instruct us on climbing belaying, and their children's classes are awesome for my kid. Would definitely recommend for beginners who thought about climbing. read more

I'm a newbie to bouldering. Haven't gotten into ropes yet. I was in the area and wanted to try this place. Got here when they first open on a Saturday morning and wasn't very busy. We had a few computer issues but they got me checked in eventually and showed me around. It's in nice shape with quite a few options for climbing with or without ropes. If I lived down here I would definitely take the training to use the ropes. read more

Ignore the reviews. This is a great little gym. If you're looking for someone to hold you're hand and explain everything maybe try another gym, but if you're experienced and enjoy family feel environment I would definitely recommend this place. I love place like SBP and vertical world but little too crowded at times. read more

I write this from the perspective of a novice. I have never done any climbing, indoors or out. Ample parking on the street in front and around the corner. The building is not shiny, but everything seems to be maintained in the right places and was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful, and best I could tell were all fans of the sport. Gear was in good shape, no frayed ropes, labeling of climbs was clear, and the regulars seem to be enjoying themselves. The crowd picked up significantly after 2pm. My girlfriend and I signed up for the intro course. We were told that the groups are kept to a manageable 6 students, so you get good attention from the instructor. It was a diverse group. Paul was our instructor, though appearing laid back, his tone got serious when safety items were discussed. I feel that we both learned the basics (knots, harness, belay handling, safety checks), and will be safe when we return during our 2 weeks practice period, included with the original class fee. I am absolutely sure that we enjoyed it and are looking forward to more. read more

Descent place, but not worth coming to Everett for. Lot's of better places to go. The manager or who ever he was was not the most professional person, seems kinda grumpy or something. Maybe having a bad day, but will not be retuning anytime soon. read more

I was a member of Vertical World Everett for several years before it became Summit and was very pleased. I returned to bring my 4 1/2 year old son to teach him how to climb for the very first time and was completely shocked and turned off by the employees at the gym. They were rude and completely demeaning to my children and how they spoke to myself and my wife (specifically the guy with the longer beard). I ran into an old friend while I was there that said the same employee is rude and brash with his wife as well. The gym looked great and seemed like it would be a great place to climb, but any place that has the type of customer service that Summit has is not worth my time or money. The sad thing is, Vertical World North has not yet opened yet and climbing gyms in Snohomish county are limited. My wife and I were prepared to sign up our boy for a membership and for their camps until the employees interacted with us. It is sad to see a lack of customer service, support and patience for the next generation. There is definitely a judgmental atmosphere from the staff. Summit's staff does not do a good job of being ambassadors for the climbing community and sets a poor example of how to treat people with respect. read more

I went here with a friend until I ended up having to save money to move away. Naturally I cancelled my membership, everything up until this point was fine. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The people who frequent this place also nice and friendly. I called to ask about how to cancel my membership and was told by the employee on the phone that if i submit a form through email that very day I would cancel membership. She also informed me if I was charged to call back and they could reverse it, since it was close to the next billing cycle. Sounds good, i got the form, filled it out and sent it in. Check my bank a few days later and I am charged the $50. Called in and got an employee (sounded like the same female I talked to days prior). Let them know I cancelled my membership and was still charged. She informed me the system says I am still a member. I told her I have the email saying I cancelled it. She told me to hang out while she gets a manager. Instead of getting the manager she tells me the contract says the $50 is irreversible and it was to close to the billing cycle so I still have to pay them. In short, employee tells me its fine and I will not be charged and refunded if I am. I call and the manager says no. So I have an employee, a representative of the company telling me things that are in fact false, and I am left to take a $50 charge because of it. Awesome. I would give 1 stars but the facility is nice. If you want to cancel your membership, better do it 30 days in advance or risk being charged and told you are in the wrong cause the staff tell you different things. read more

I came here for the first time for an introductory belay course I bought through Groupon that came with two free weeks. It was such a great experience. It looks like it would be small from the outside, but once you get inside the place is pretty substantial. They have a variety of difficulty levels and a boulder wall. I have been so busy I haven't been able to make it back since I went for the two weeks, but I have every intention of getting a membership at some point. I loved it. read more

Wife and I were looking for a rock climbing gym to get started in, and this place hit the spot. It's smaller than the other gyms in Seattle, but it more than fills the void in Snohomish county. Intro lesson + two week trial membership with rentals was a great deal, and got us hooked. Bouldering and top rope is split about 50/50, plus a handful of lead climbs. Three auto-belays, top-rope starts at 5.7 (with some 5.5/5.6 range climbs used in the intro class), and grades are pretty uniformly spread out to 5.12a/b. Bouldering grades top out around v7/v8, with most in the v2 to v4 range. Smaller gym means there are only around 4 to 6 problems in each grade. All routes are mapped by the hold color, which is much nicer than having flags everywhere. I like the fact that you are invited to vote on the difficulty for new routes. The small weight room is a plus, although lighting feels a little dull. Maybe that's just the building showing its age. Routes/problems seem to stick around for about 2 months before they get reset. Perhaps routes will get frequent resets as their membership builds up. Fees and rentals are cheaper than other gyms though. Their staff is small but easy going and supportive. That's one of the best things about the place - it feels easy to walk up to any staff member and start a conversation or ask for advice. Not like the giant super-gyms like Stone Gardens or Vertical World where they pretty much collect your money and then shrug you off because they're way too busy for you. Parking can be tough on busy nights. read more

I go there with my son's (age 13 and 16) and we love it. We have not found it too crowded ever- there is a nice mix of routes on all walls so you can move around. I especially like the auto belay since my son cannot belay me and I worry about being able to push myself on the boulder walls (fear of a little fall hurting my back). With the auto belay- i can climb by myself and do harder routes (since falling is kind of fun). Great active thing to do with kids and you do NOT have to be good or know the lingo (I have never climbed outside and my kids are WAY better than me, but ti is still fun). read more
