For many years I've passed by this humble little bakery and restaurant not knowing greatness that lied inside. I was referred to Sultan Bakery by a girl that worked at the Lake Wenatchee campsite at the end of my North Cascade Loop road trip and it really was the perfect ending. This place really is a hole-in-the-wall establishment. The tables are not so sturdy and the bathroom is single stall around the back next to the kitchen, but the service is great and the food is AMAZING. If you like turkey sandwiches, this is your place. Try the turkey-cranberry with cream cheese. Every time I go it's always 2 meals. The bread is made fresh. It's fluffy and delicious. The bacon is thick and crispy. You really get your sandwich value here. $8 gets you a sandwich bigger than your head. I always have left overs. I'm not so sure about the other food items. I ordered a steak once, which was like eating a shoe, and the country fried steak was mediocre. This place should actually get a 4-Star but the sandwiches are just too good. All I know is, whether I was going camping in Wenatchee, Oktoberfest in Leavenworth, or hiking on Mt. Index, I'm stopping at Sultan Bakery! read more

Driven by this place for years, but never felt like waiting in line. Finally stopped here early last sunday when the place was empty. I ordered the chicken fried steak. When it came out I was excited, 2 plates, lots of food and I was hungry. I took a bite of the steak and gravy. The gravy was veeeery rich and veeery salty, it almost tasted like it had lobster or crab in it. after the 3rd bite of steak I realized that it was grossly undercooked and raw in the center and soggy. The eggs were fine, the hash browns were hash browns. The toast was delicious about the only thing I enjoyed was the toast and eggs. I left the rest on the plate and left. I really wanted to like this place, I had heard so many good things. I would give the Sultan Baker 4 stars and eat here more often, if it wasn't for the consistently unimpressive customer service. Please smile, be welcoming, make small-talk, take orders with a nice friendly vibe. Don't stare blankly at each customer and solemnly ring up their order. I expect this type of service in a truck stop. Instead of not even telling your guest's they have to grab their own beverages in a cold case at the other end of the room. Remind return guests, and get it for those that don't know! The food quality/taste will only take a place so far. I had heard great things about this place, so we decided to stop on our way to Tulalip. Quite disappointing. Atmosphere is not very appealing and the bathroom is as close to an outhouse as you can get. The food was mediocre and the service was horrible. My ceasar salad was the best of our three meals that we had. The split pea soup was runny and had no flavor. The Reuben sandwich had no flavor and was served on sourdough bread. The most boring restaurant food I have ever had. The hash browns tasted like bland potatoes and grease and aren't apple fritters supposed to have apples in them? A plain slice of white bread has more flavor than the food we had here. I'll have to give a "not applicable" on the service because there really isn't any. You have to do everything on your own (getting the food, getting the bill) because they're all working hard to make the boring food. My family and I ate breakfast at the Sultan Bakery September 2013 while visiting my son and his family. They had the most food on a plate I have ever had at a restaurant. The food tasted excellent. We bought sweets for the trip into the mountains. I read other reviews stating bad service, rude attitudes from a server. We saw nothing like that. I bought starbuck coffee from Monroe and stop by get some donuts so when I start to pay the lady ask me about coffee so she acted like I was stole coffee from her. I told her I just bought it. Good food and huge portions.... But... the staff seem to have a problem washing their hands. I've been in there several times recently and I'm always amazed that the staff play with their hair, rub their face and noses, and then grab donuts and pastries from the case with those little papers without even bothering to keep their fingers on the paper... The older blonde gal that works the register is especially bad at this, while others will reposition the paper to get and get a somewhat clean grip on things she clearly doesn't give a damn and gets her fingers all over the place... and that's after she's wiped her sniffly nose with her hand... EWWWWWW!!!!! Why aren't they using disposable gloves? Aside from that, what I've eaten there was REALLY good... but I can't get over their lack of proper hygiene. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. We stop here all the time when we're heading out to Stevens/Leavenworth. Get here early, as the baked goods go fast! We love the Apple Cups (Apple Fritters), Maple Bars, Buttermilk Twist (sooooo good). The grab-n-go breakfast burritos are good- esp. for the price ($3). When heading up to ski or board at Stevens, grab a breakfast sandwich! They are HUGE! The bread is soft and made in house. The hubbs & I always split it, so we get bacon and sausage. But that's not the only thing that is big, but mostly if not all their items on menu are larger than your average. We came back from a day playing in the snow at Stevens and had noticed that the bakery always looked packed so we thought we would try it out. BIG MISTAKE! We had NO service, never offered even water. We waited 30 minutes for a couple of sandwiches. The roast beef dip was a pile of overcooked meat and soggy bread. The side salad that came with it was lettuce and a slice of beet. Very uninspired and tasteless for the price they charged. The grilled cheese we ordered for our son was made with fake cheese and came with the crumbs from the bottom of a bag of chips. My husband ordered a hamburger that was huge but also tasteless and served with the same crumbs from the chip bag. We were ignored during our entire visit and will never return. read more

This is one of those places that the review depends on your expectations and how this place compares to others that are similar. This is a small, family run bakery-restaurant in Sultan. You drive past it every time you head to Stevens Pass, Leavenworth, Lake Chelan, Wenatchee, etc. note that it's your basic dive diner atmosphere. We came in on a Sunday morning after an overnight stay nearby at Tracy's Mountain View airbnb. The dining area is pretty small, but there were enough tables to accommodate is without waiting. You order at the counter and they bring you the food. A lot of folks appeared to come in for take-out orders of breakfast or for big boxes of donuts. This is a family operation and on the day of our visit, everyone was cheerful & friendly, in spite of a packed house and a long line of folks waiting to place their orders. Lots of little kids stood dazed in front of the huge pastry case - overwhelmed by the selection of goodies to choose from! But the women working the counter were patient and friendly. Talk about tough choices: ginormous cinnamon rolls, maple bars (with or without bacon), buttermilk donuts, huge apple-filled cinammony apple cup rolls, cookies, brownies, etc. There is also a separate case with cakes, pies, cheesecakes, etc. We ordered our breakfast and also one custard-filled maple donut and their "most popular" apple cup. My hubby went all out with bacon, eggs, hash browns and a side of country gravy. I toned it down with a tortilla stuffed with fluffy scrambled eggs, smoky ham cubes and gooey cheddar cheese. It was so full I decided to skip the tortilla and focus on the hearty filing. I needed to make room for my pastry! Hubby did everything but lick the plate. The hash browns were crispy, bacon was smoky, eggs were perfectly over-easy and the gravy was creamy and filled with sausage. Hole in the wall type place, (always the best types) don't go if you're in a hurry, restaurant operates a bit on the slow side, but if you have the time it is well worth the wait. Not recommended if you are trying to get up to Stevens for skiing on a weekend as it gets pretty busy, but again if you have time, for sure go! When we walked in the menu had several items that looked interesting and as usual we ordered different dishes so we could try a variety. Every dish was extremely tasty!
