Everything is great! I do not understand the 2.5 star rating here. I was expecting a dive. I'm in room 164. It's awesome. Two beds. Back building. The bathroom seems like maybe it's VERY recently remodeled because the tile grout is pristine around the tub. It's as if I'm the first to use it. Kudos to housekeeping for sure. The hard vinyl flooring looks new. Shampoo etc in bathroom. Super nice! Even extra bath towels. There's a refrigerator and microwave plus coffee and hair dryer in bathroom. Also an iron and ironing board in the hanging closet and I count 5 hangers. There are no drawers which is good for me. The TV is on long desk. Lots of counter. More counter is suitcase height to left of closet. AC/Heat looks like a new unit. Super quiet. Mattress feels comfortable. 4 pillows per bed. Soft pillow cases. The lovely young woman who checked us in...her name is ELAINA...was delightful. She agreed to show us two rooms because I wanted to be sure it's ok because there's only 2.5 stars. But this room was great so we didn't look further. According to THIS room, 2.5 stars is HIGHLY UNDERRATED. There is even a FREE breakfast. I'm not expecting a fancy hot breakfast at this price point. But the breakfast area looks large with lots of tables more like fancier more expensive hotels. Maybe the breakfast will surprise me? If so I'll add pics. UPDATE BREAKFAST: MICHELLE was keeping the breakfast perfect. We arrived after 9:30. It's only open till 10 yet it's already 10:30 and we're just finishing eating. MICHELLE DID NOT RUSH US. She and ELAINA both made us feel like WE were more important than keeping a tight schedule. ELAINA gave us a late checkout so this has become a relaxing stop instead of a hurry hurry stop. When we showed up nobody was eating YET the breakfast bar was FULL. Nothing was empty. ITS A FULL HOT BREAKFAST and the food is better than some high end hotels I've stayed at. They bake the blueberry muffins fresh. Even the country gravy (yes with biscuits) was better than some restaurants. I'm posting pics rather than listing everything on the breakfast. I've just eaten more calories than I need for the day. (:-) This room is so great I didn't want to forget to review it so I'm posting now. Yes I read the past reviews, but they're kinda older posts. Today is Saturday Memorial weekend 2024, and we are VERY happy with Sugarloaf. Rate was great, room was fine for wife and I. Has everything we need, the bathroom and shower are CLEAN AND NOTHING NEGATIVE to say. Definitely way better than yesterday's AirBnB room we had. Lady at front desk was chill and friendly. All and all, we are pleasantly surprised and thankful this place was a WINNER for us. Hope it goes well for other travelers. read more

Have you ever decided to roll the dice of fate to see which reviews were accurate? I have! And this place is decent. The bed was comfortable enough. The room was clean. Nothing to complain about really. Is it the Hilton or Marriott? Absolutely not, however, for the price it was just right. I'd likely stay here again if in the area. I read other reviews on yelp while I was at the hotel and they made me laugh out loud, especially the one about the person who decided to sniff what they thought was pooh and got it on their nose, then complained about it. I had booked an overnight stay here at the Sugar Loaf Motel through EXPEDIA, (which I paid for in full at the time of booking) for my family and I as we would be passing thru the city of Bend, OR. At check-in, the representative there asked for a credit card to put on file for the overnight deposit ( which every hotel or motel does), and of course, I said, sure "No problem." Come to find out days later after my return from vacation. I find an additional charge for the same place. I contact EXPEDIA immediately, and they responded quickly. As we corresponded back and forth, they asked me to call the property and have them email me the receipt. They asked for my info, then said they couldn't find any information of my booking and they will call me back. They never did. I called again the next day and, same deal. As this is going on, I kept EXPEDIA in the loop. THE SUGAR LOAF MOTEL told EXPEDIA that this transaction never happened. What a load of crap! I love the city of BEND, OR, and after this trip, I will definitely stay elsewhere. read more

This hotels staff is excellent. We were here for a quick stay a few weeks ago, and were happy to hear about the extra precautions they are taking due to Covid-19. Rooms are clean and cozy, location is close to several good food spots and the parking lot is huge- which makes it easy to maneuver larger vehicles/trailers. My daughter ended up leaving her beloved blanket behind, and the staff went above and beyond to look for it and mail it to us. read more

Okay place wasn't that bad but we did have both dogs so we got out into a pet room normal but there was left over dog hair from whoever stayed before the conditioner bottle was used the pillows had what looked like lent all over them one of the bed sheets looked used, the lamps have stains on them.. the guy at the front desk just seemed irritated and was not welcoming at all. I went into this motel with an open mind. It was quickly shattered by the abundant wall stains, carpet stains, bed stains, literally any kind of stain you could thing of in a motel room, it was here. I was nearly paralyzed with disgust as I tried my best to make a safe space on the bed with my own blankets. The bathroom was old, dingy, and the baseboards were coming of the wall and filled with grime and dust. The shower was the only thing that was remotely ok to use. One upside was that they had so few guests, there wasn't anyone to make noise as the sound proofing isn't the best. I would also not recommend touching the coffee maker or cups near it. It clearly hasn't been cleaned or replaced in quite a while. I could still see the toothpaste splash from prior guests since it is so close to the sink. If you're staying here and have no other option, I recommend not looking behind your bed. All I can say is it was the pinnacle of neglect and should be studied for the sheer amount of bacteria probably living there. If you make it through the night, they also offer a breakfast. My partner went to check it out and said that after opening one of the trays, was so worried to open another for the sheer foul stench of what could barely be called food coming from the tray. Needless to say, I didn't consider eating any of their food. read more

This place is a hole. Will never be staying here again. In fairness, it is better than dirt camping, but barely- and the staff is not in the "hospitality" business. The towels are thread bare- and don't DARE ask for any extra ones- not even nicer towels , I simply asked for "more." Towel rationing. And not a single towel rack or rod in the room. Toilet handle had to be held for it to work. Bathroom door had to be jammed to shut and then jerked to open. Mini fridge had to be set to freeze or it didn't chill- then it froze. Well, I was driving in the parking lot looking for my room. One of the employees walked across in front of my car. I didn't see him, but I was only going one or 2 miles an hour and I stopped. He began to yell at me and tell me that I "almost.F- - king hit him." This was not the case, although he probably thought that I didn't see him, In any case, swearing at a customer is not acceptable. I told the front desk about it and was told they would handle it. When I came into my room, it was very dark and the lights did not accommodate more lighting. There was not one chair in the room that was comfortable. There were only the padded "kitchen chair" style chair. The refrigerator was not turned on. I thought it didn't work so, again, I went to the front desk. Since I'm an 81 year-old woman with diabetes I need to refrigerate my insulin. It seems to me, if you know a room is going to be taken, and paid for, that at least the refrigerator should be turned on in order to cool. The property is old and outdated. I would not recommend this place nor will I come back here again. read more

I picked this hotel for the last night of my stay in Bend because the CO Breeze bus to PDX leaves from their parking lot. It was incredibly convenient to come down from my room in the morning and jump right on the bus. Staff were very friendly and my room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. Although the staff were friendly, they did not seem well trained. When I checked in the front desk staff told me my room number, but didn't know where the room was located in the motel and couldn't give me directions to it. Another guest checking in at the same time encountered the same issue. During an emergency when a staff member was seriously injured, no one could find the manager on the premises. Apparently they don't use walkie talkies and did not have a cell phone number for her. Lastly, I prepaid for my room and during check-in when I was asked for a credit card I confirmed that it would not be charged. The receptionist assured me it was just on file for security purposes, but when I checked out my card was charged for a night's stay. The receptionist refunded the charge, but didn't apologize - just blamed the previous night's staff for not putting a note in the computer that the room was prepaid. If you're driving, the motel is convenient to downtown and there are city bus stops right outside. If you're looking for a cheap stay and don't care about much other than a clean bed this place fits the bill. read more

I no longer go by the ratings on hotels.com but will now go straight to the customer reviews and look at their ratings. If I had gone through the ratings from Hotels.com (or whoever rates them), I would not have stayed here. BUT, the customers wrote great things about it and I am telling you, it's all true. Honestly, I paid right around $100 for two nights and booked early and even had the option to cancel up to the date of the visit. Not bad! I won't lie, I was worried. I paid this amount once in California and ended up trying to get out of the room because it was THAT bad. I decided that this was going to be my adventure and worse case scenario, I change hotels or go home a day early. Check in was a breeze. The guy at the front desk was so nice and just lay back. Not in a lazy kind of a way but he just made you feel comfortable. After we checked in without any problem, we looked around the lobby and it was nice. Very clean. I had to wait until morning to find out about the breakfast, but I was patient. On to the room. I was worried, because, again, I didn't pay much (compared to some of the hotels I usually stay in). Walked in, and I had a great big smile on my face. The room was clean, bed looked comfy (and turned out it was), and it had everything that you basically need in a hotel (mini fridge, coffee maker, free wifi!). The room had a heater which is great since it was very cold outside. It definitely kept the room warm. TV had a Showtime so got to watch Battleship and Horrible Bosses along with other shows on other channels. In the morning, it was off to breakfast. I worried because I remember reading a review saying that breakfast runs out if you get there late. Looking at the clock, it was a little after 9 so we hurried to the lobby. I didn't have to worry. There was plenty of food. Keep in mind, this place is not a fancy Hilton/Sheraton hotel. It's not going to have gourmet meals. BUT they did have biscuits and gravy, waffles, as well as cereal, hard boil eggs, and my favorite, bagels and cream cheese. There were a few other things but those are the one that caught my eye. And, they had plenty of milk (response to another review). In fact, the person who was in charge of the area was keeping an eye out and bringing more items as they were running out AND this was at 9PM so even at that time she was not letting things run out. The rooms were pretty quiet. We were on the first floor and if someone stood right in front of our room, we could hear them talk. I would definitely suggest asking not to be directly next to the steps. There were not a lot of guest this weekend but the ones that were there, well, let's just say my husband called them a herd of elephants because they stomped on the steps as they went down. They were just thumping as they went up and down the steps. Thankfully it did not last but a couple minutes each way. Great employees at this location, very nice motel inside and out. Again, this is not a FANCY hotel, but it's definitely better than most that you would get for this price. Gas station with convenient store in front, restaurants and bars nearby, and a short car ride to downtown Bend. Definitely recommend this place. read more

I'm not saying this is a 4-Star hotel, I'm rating this place among its peers. Great price, nicely kept up, clean rooms with fresh linens, I wasn't grossed out by anything. Serviceable continental breakfast with typical offerings. Even a pool to help our toddler unwind after a drive over from the valley! It isn't anything luxurious but it's simple and not problematic in any way. They even let us check in nearly 2 hours early! Also snappy to customers...just not a good rep of establishment.. This time my room was clean but shower drain was damn near completely clogged! Took it apon myself and pulled a hairball the size of a Gerbal out of drain! Come on! For the price you think the staff cleaning would mention a room with a slow drain and they would get it fixed! I was staying here for a family reunion by myself with my two daughters and niece. When my daughter went to take a shower she noticed human fecal matter smeared on the wall in the shower. She leaned in to smell it to see if it was really poo and her nose touched the poop!! when I called the front desk two ladies came into my room, looked at it and apologized and then left. Actually one of them apologized, the other lady (who acted like she was in charge) didn't say a word, she acted inconvenienced. Then the lady who was apologetic returned and said "I'm really sorry we usually do a walk through after the housekeepers clean so we should have caught that. " I wasn't making a big scene or anything I just was in disbelief honestly. But then the lady did the weirdest thing, she held out her hand and slipped me a $20 bill. Almost as if to ask me to keep this quiet. I literally was speechless. And then she left. It was very bizarre and uncomfortable. Anyways, I would not recommend staying here. Unless you want to get E. Check-in staff were professional, courteous, and efficient. Rooms were clean and well-appointed for a budget motel. Plenty of parking and easy access to the highway, food, and all the basics needed to get through the weekend. Check out was simple and there were no surprises. Its not the best hotel in Bend but its a solid choice if you need a place to stay for a few days. There's only one problem with this place, and that is: Zero Privacy. All the windows open onto common walkways and the walls are paper thin. You can hear everything in the adjoining rooms. I would not seek this place out again, but if it was in my options, I wouldn't shy away from it. read more

Had a reservation for here as a pit stop on the final night of a long vacation. Encountered a lot of road construction delays on the way and didn't get to Bend until after 10pm. Discovered our GPS in the car needs updating , couldn't find the address of the hotel, so I called and asked the clerk for directions. She didn't know what exit we needed to take ?! ,so I asked for a landmark near the place and she said "we're right by Target". Turns out Target is about a 1/4 mile away from them and there were several other places she could have named, like the gas station that is right in front of them ! I finally pulled into The Shilo Inn and asked the gentleman there, he pointed us in the right direction. Got there, checked in, room was nice, the bed was comfortable. My wife went to the lobby to get a soda, heard it drop, but couldn't see it, machine has the anti-theft flap on the chute and the bottle had rolled under it. She said something to the desk clerk, a different one than the directionally challenged one who checked us in, and he said "sorry about your luck" and then turned and went to a room behind the desk. Our room was on the street side, right behind the gas station and a convenience store, got really noisy by 7 am. Overall disappointing experience. read more

This hotel is a joke. We arrived late at night and checked into our room. Our room was very dirty with debris on the floor and the sheets were stained with brown stains. I called the front desk and let them know and they moved us to a different room. That room was also very dirty, grungy, and the towels and wash cloths were so worn you could see through them. Additionally, the coffee condiment packages had been opened before we got there. The bed was not very comfortable and I worried about getting a disease because those sheets were also stained. It made me wonder how often they washed the blankets and bedspread. The breakfast was reasonable in the morning. We let the manager of the hotel know about the dirty rooms and sheets and towels and asked for a refund. They did not give us one. We will not be staying here again and we DO NOT recommend this place at all! read more

Although not a beautiful property, this popular mid-priced motel was updated, well staffed and clean when we stayed in August of 2018. Room 312 had been recently renovated, had comfortable beds, fridge, microwave, good lighting, table with 2 chairs and new fixtures. Although our room was in the front, facing the highway and the nearby Conoco station, it was quiet at night. Breakfast was comparable to mainline Best Western motels and the two-person staff kept the food well-stocked for the hoards of people eating breakfast (when full, this motel might have close to 300 guests.) A line did form at check-in, but that was because the desk receptionist's mouse's battery had gone dead. A slight inconvenience is that none of the doors are motion activated. In sum, this motel is a good choice for a stopover on your way through Bend. read more

We got this hotel on a Hotwire reservation so we didn't know exactly what we were getting. Everything seemed fine, the staff was friendly, the room looked clean, but then...when we went into the bathroom, the floor was very dirty and sticky and the bath tub had not been cleaned properly and there was hair in the bathtub from the previous guest. If you can pay in cash I would. They charged my card 3 times. I paid for the room when I booked the room on July 19th. Then BEFORE I checked out on July 28th my card was charged a random $96. I got my bank to reverse it. Got it back. Then this morning, July 30th the hotel charged me AGAIN what I paid on the 19th. They've charged me almost $300 for a $94 room. Horrible! Good value for the price. Beds were comfy, low amenities. We got in late but the room was ready. I was looking forward to the continental breakfast in the morning BUT, the breakfast was a disaster. Firstly, there was very little to choose from and no fruit to be found. Secondly, they were out of milk for cereal. They had a sign indicating that they were out of milk and would have more "tomorrow." Really?!? You had three front desk girls having social hour and you couldn't send one out for some milk? Btw, the milk was gone at 7:15 when we got down to breakfast. What a bad experience. The front desk staff should spend less time socializing and more time finding ways to provide hospitality in the hospitality business. For $70, it was a place to lay your head. Let me get this started by saying that the motel is worth the value. Yes, our first room had a broken TV, but the staff moved us into a bigger room immediately. For the $55 a night I spent, I couldn't believe how great the rooms were! Breakfast was as usual with biscuits and gravy, coffee, bagels, and waffles. The staff is kind and they take pride in what they do. (Especially the breakfast. Lol) It was also wonderful that I could bring my dog and it only cost $15 a night extra. I've paid upwards of $30 before at other hotels. The location is convenient to many restaurants and is only a 5 minute drive from the heart of Bend. read more

Overall a very affordable place to stay in north Bend. Two and three story buildings with some in the back not facing the main highway. The bed, TV, towels etc were about what I'd expect. Also, in my personal opinion, the pillows were awful. Felt like I was sleeping (or rather, trying to sleep) on pillows made of cement. Easy to find, and easy to check in. The front desk help did not seem to be very educated in regards to how the motel is run. Our reservation was not conveyed correctly from Bookings.com and a room was not ready for us. Not the front desks fault, just another down side of the overall experience. The room was clean, but the common areas were very dirty. Website promotes a free breakfast with stay. Breakfast was more reflective of a semi-continential style meal. When I asked if there was more food coming out I was informed they were still setting up. I returned 1/2 hour later and it was the same. When I asked again at the front desk I was told that was the breakfast. Our expectation of spending a little more because of the breakfast being included was not met and miss leading. I recommend staying somewhere else and finding your own breakfast. read more

First, I booked through Booking.com. It was pet friendly and promoted "newly remodeled." I booked a room with a queen size bed.. and added to notes " request remolded" room. When we arrived to motel they couldn't find my booking. Staff kept talking about the owner requesting they pay attention to a group of "important" people staying there. In my opinion, if you are running a business every customer is important! -each person paying into your establishment is putting money in your pocket. We checked into our room, it was not remolded, nor queen size (it was a double). The next day our key didn't work. We went into the office, they didn't add the 3 days we were staying, only one day. Easy fix, they added the rest of the days on to our key. Now for my biggest issue. Our room was only given two towels and we needed more..Should be an easy request, right?! At 11AM I told the office we needed more towels. I also let them know we would be off-roading til 4PM. They told me they didn't have enough towels at the moment and asked if we could turn in our dirty ones. We gave them our towels and our room number. They assured us we would have towels in our room by the time we got back. When we arrived back to the Motel we saw staff offering towels to the room next to us. We thought "great, we have towels in our room." We walk into our room and there are NO towels. I went back to the office and asked them for towels. According to staff they were, "still out." Again, they took my room number and stated they would bring towels to our room. We went to dinner and arrived back around 10 PM, still no towels. Again, I went back and asked for towels. I explained to the night staff that I wasn't asking for much...simply, just wanted to dry myself off after showering. He apologized and finally brought towels. It seems that you have to be an "important" person picked by the owner to receive a basic need. Will NOT stay here again! read more

To start, we went to our room to find our tv didn't work. When we were trying to get it to work we found a belt behind the tv and I can only imagine how long that's been here. The floor wasn't vacuumed as there was stuff all over the floor. After talking to someone at the front desk about our tv, he talked to me like I was dumb and then came to our room to find the tv actually didn't work. They changed our room and then I went to lay down in our new room to find MULTIPLE hairs on my pillow. There were wrappers from soap behind the bathroom door from the people before and a skittles wrapper behind the lamps. I called the front desk and he brought me a new pillow and told me it must have been the housekeepers hair.. which I don't believe. Second night.. we show up after being gone all day and there was some druggie that had his stuff outside our door and his jacket hanging on the door knob who said he was staying in our room. After going downstairs to talk to the front desk they said he was doing that on the 3rd floor earlier. I would absolutely never stay here again. I'd rather sleep in my car than stay here ever again. I was nervous to pre-book this room because it was at the lower end of the price scale, and it was not part of a chain. It turns out my fears were for nothing. The lobby was clean and bright, the person working the desk was swamped but pleasant, the room, while basic, was clean, odor free, and had all the essentials. The beds were comfortable, and the linens and towels were mid-grade. The few negatives were consistent with what you find at any other economy priced hotel: some people stay here to save money, and some people stay here cause it's all they can afford.
