This location is great! I generally like MyEyeDr because they have one integrated system so no matter what location you go to, they can see your past history. Each doctor I've seen has been great. I don't know how someone could be a "bad" eye doctor LOL. The differentiating factor is the front desk staff. They are really strict about being late, and the cutoff is usually 15 minutes. Last year at another nearby location, I even called in advance and because I was 16 minutes late, they said I had to reschedule. And there was no other appointment for weeks. This year I was late as well. However, this location was so nice. They looked at the schedule, and asked the doctor if he could try to squeeze me in. Of course they advised that I would have to sit and wait 30-45 minutes if I wanted to take the chance. I had time so I didn't mind. In the meantime, I looked for new frames. If y'all wear glasses- you know this process can take a long time. About 30 minutes later the doctor was able to see me. I got my exam, and my new prescription. Since I couldn't find new frames I liked that were in my price range, I just opted to get new lenses for my existing frames. They had a great selection in a variety of price ranges- I just happened to like all the ones that were ridiculous haha. When I went back to get my glasses, they were still super helpful and friendly. I called and no on answered (probably busy on another line) and they even called me back! Not very happy with the service I received today. I received a text that the reading glasses I picked up were ready. So i went during my lunch period to grab them. At the front desk, they asked me to put them on and everything was blurry at about a distance of 1 foot from my face. Additionally, I tried looking at my phone and it looked distorted in my hand, like it was bending. While waiting the 2 weeks to pick up the glasses I tried a pair of over the counter readers with the same script and had no issues. The only reason I went with these was because the Dr told me it accounted for an astigmatism. I let them know that I was unable to see properly and they took the glasses back to check. When the lady came back, she said, the prescription is what the Dr prescribed. I explained the issues with them and she seemed to blow me off. She said that I would have to be retested. I explained that I can only do appointments on the weekend due to the lack of timing requesting time off as this is not considered an emergency situation. Unfortunately the soonest appointment is April 20th. She scheduled me and said nothing. There was awkwardness at the counter and I asked, did you schedule me. She said yes. So I guess I was done since she said nothing and I left. It was a level of rudeness that I have rarely seen in a customer service oriented business. At no time did they express any concern or care that this mistake is quite inconvenient. They weren't pleasant, apologetic or sympathetic. Mistakes with orders happen, what upset me was the lack of customer service by the front desk staff. They truly deserve to be sacked. In fact, I spoke to the gentleman who helped me order them, who no longer works there and he mentioned that my experience isn't uncommon with the front desk staff. In fact he said the two woman at the front desk were part of the reason he left the company. I will try to resolve the issue with this company but ultimately, I have very little faith. If I have too, I will take the frames and go elsewhere and end up paying out of pocket for a new exam and lenses. I will update this post based on the resolution. UPDATE: I went today to pick up the pair of glasses to give it a few days of letting my eyes adjust to see if they work out. I checked google and yelp to see what time they were open. I get here and they are closed and it's, "by appointment only". Yelp even stated that the hours were updated a month ago. This place is absolutely garbage. It needs new management or shut down. The last 6 months of reviews are horrendous. They can't get their hours correct online and their front desk staff are like the mean girls club. Once I pick up the glasses I'm done. I will encourage everyone I know never to give this company business. read more

Also, no explanation was provided when asked why the delay. Business has recently transferred ownership and the service is noticeably deteriorating. UPDATE 7/18/23 The office just called me threatening legal action for publishing the photo of employees in a public area. No apology, just more attitude, as described by many reviews below. They hung up on me when I tried to discuss my experience with them. Follow up to post below. We left after no explanation or apology. But After a quick virtual visit online, that Doctor called in a prescription within 5 minutes to our local pharmacy. At first I felt inconvenienced by thinking about finding a new practice after coming here for over 20 years. Now, with the current customer service and the convenience of telemedicine, I wouldn't be surprised if this management team doesn't make it here. I must say that Dr. Christensen is phenomenal. Have been here twice in the past few weeks on the quest to switch to contacts. Dr. Christensen did my exam and discussed with me in detail the entire process, and what choices I had. You can tell he is busy and moving quickly, but he is so kind, professional, and just nice to speak to that the experience is great. He knows his stuff, and he's more than willing to answer questions. On my second time in, Dr. Woo and two of the ladies from the front helped me with inserting the contacts( as it has been about ten years since I had them).All of them were super sweet and helpful. I would definitely recommend Sugarloaf Eyecare. One possible con is that the frames they sell seem to be very expensive. Its not shocking as they're all name brand, but I'm just not one to spend a few hundred dollars on frames.If I was going with glasses, I would still choose Sugarloaf Eyecare, and just buy the actual glasses elsewhere. read more

My husband and his family has gone to this place for years bc of Dr. Christensen and loved him since. Never really had a bad experience until my 2nd time seeing them in November of 2023. It's not him, it's the company and how they assist with your glasses. My $500 frames were scratched and I was told that they could help me get another frame. Weeks go by and I don't hear from them. I thought it was bc of the holidays. I called and was put on hold right away-not greeting to be informed to hold- for over 10 minutes. I was finally able to reach the supervisor and she told me that she would call me in 3 days. I still haven't heard from her. I decide to go in person. Office is inconveniently closed bc there isn't a doctor on site. I call the next day and I was told to call when the supervisor is in. I decide to go in person... they are on lunch and there is no note on my file. I was told that the supervisor will definitely ucall me the next day. Don't trust their words. For two years Dr Christensen told me I had dry eyes even though I kept telling him it was an infection and asking for a prescription for it; he wouldn't do that. I finally went to a new eye doctor who took one look and wrote me a prescription for an infection that cleared up in less than a week. read more

I've been going to Sugarloaf EyeCare, along with the rest of my family, for around 4 years now. I initially went because they took my insurance but I KEEP going back because of their thoroughness, professionalism and the selection of glasses they have in-store. Just two days ago, I had my annual appointment and today they texted me to say my reading glasses were ready (2 days later!), and my other pair of progressives will be ready Tuesday. I've never had to wait on the doctor more than a few minutes. While the eyeglass brands they carry are definitely not cheap, they are really cool and unique. I appreciate the time that the salesperson (Andrea) took to help me find the best frames for my face and "personality". If you're looking for a "fun", fashion-forward pair of high-quality glasses beyond what you find at Target or Visionworks, you HAVE to visit their showroom. read more

I've been trying to solve a problem with my contact lenses for over a week. I've been going to Dr. Christensen for over 10 years. I was working in the area at that time. Although I live 1 1/2 hours from the office now, I still go for my annual visits. I've never had a problem with the staff until Briana started answering the telephone. She is rude and will not let me talk to anyone else in the office to get my issue resolved. Today, while I was asking to speak with Aundrea, who has helped me in the past, Briana hung up in my face. I was shocked. She is unprofessional and rude. Hanging up on a patient is irresponsible and dangerous. It is not OK. Never had a problem until she started answering the telephone. A patient should not have to take over a week to get a problem resolved. Very sad outcome today. read more

I have shopped at Sugarloaf Eyecare for several years and have bought three pairs of glasses, a pair of sunglasses and countless boxes of contact lenses from them. I have seen all of their optometrist through the years and everyone has been great. Like many, it seems, I began coming here for their incredible selection of frames. They've got some top brands: Cartier, Tom Ford, Le Face, Chanel, Tiffany & Co, etc. (most manufactured by Luxottica, I'm sure). Liz has been great in helping with frame selection and overall customer service. I suspect the front of the house and back of the house are two separate businesses here. That is, the retail portion of frames and sunglasses is separate from the medical/eye-check up business. In any case, the experience is seamless and the staff is great. Pricing is certainly on the higher side so you're probably not going to find much of a selection on the lower end. I would say, the offices could use a facelift especially considering the luxury brands they carry. Overall, you'll have a pleasant experience here! read more

Went to get a new prescription for my progressive lens eyeglasses. Said I'd have to give them my old glasses for a week or so to have new lenses made for my frames, couldn't go that. Picked out the lesser of the evils they have for frames and ordered the whole works. New glasses came in and the left lens was all screwed up but at least I could read with the right lens. Waited another week for a new left lens. I don't know who they use for lenses but they're really poor (wouldn't even rate them a 1). These glasses are driving me nuts trying to adjust them to work smoothly like my old glasses. Lens tilt, angle, distance from eye, these lenses just don't work together! Just lost a long-time customer. I made two eye appointments for my husband and Me 15 minutes apart. Mine was to be first, but he arrived first as I was caught in an accident from Dunwoody to Lawrenceville. He tells them in plenty of time I'm running behind and requests them to take him first. THEY DON'T. I get there 17 minutes after their grace period instead of 15 minutes and they tell me I have to reschedule. Absolutely not. They asked specifically did it matter which doctor we saw when I made the appointments and I told them it did not, so it shouldn't matter now to slide him into the first slot. Secondly, he didn't have to waste his time for you all to turn around to tell me to reschedule as you knew in plenty of time I was running behind. If I can make two appointments, that shouldn't have been an issue for him to take one of them. And yes, it's filed to the same insurance under one person. It saddens me people don't work with logic these days. But if they don't need our business, we will take to someone who'd like it. I hesitate to even give this location 1 star as it is literally the worst, most disappointing, unprofessional, and uncaring group of entitled employees who seem to care nothing for their customers and their craftsmanship. Was referred to this place by i.c. Berlin's website. Only 3 locations in Atlanta carried them and this was the closest so I setup and eye exam and appointment. Exam went great, and the optometrist was very helpful. The issue I had was there was only a small selection of frames, but I did find three frames that would work ranging in price from $435-$505. The one I liked the best turned out to be the $435, so asked what the total cost would be with lenses. When I got the quote, the price for my $435 glasses was now $505 and the price tag sticker that was on the glasses was removed. I'm not sure if they were mismarked, and our rep was trying to correct the error thinking we didn't see the original price tag. They have a great selection of designer frames anyone from Betsy Johnson, Ralph Lauren, Juicy Couture, Prada and Chanel. For a boutique style and prices care center, they need to have better service. I have been to chains they offer better service. If a guest receives frames they should be given a cloth, cleaner and a case or even offered to purchase these items. If a guest brings their own frames, they should still take the time to make sure they fit, measure them on you face. I brought three frames and wished I had given my business to another company. I noticed today the lenses on the back up pair has huge crack on the edge and the lenses were on fully placed into the frame, sloppy work. Also they never called me when the frames were ready, I had to keep calling to get updates. read more

It has taken me a couple years to write this review but I want to save others from the tragedy I went through. I was a patient at this practice for many years. I started having symptoms of large floaters and flashes of light on a Friday night. I got in to see Dr. Christensen on a Saturday and he examined me and said I was having a "vitreous detachment" and said I would be fine and he would see me in 2 months. Didn't bother to send me to a retina specialist to rule out any retina detachment and didn't tell me not to jump around or do anything strenuous because it could lead to a retina detachment, So I continued my regular routine of working out and running on the treadmill. By the following Friday I was completely blind in my right eye due to a retina detachment and had to have emergency surgery. When my retina detached, it pulled my macula (center point of vision) with it. As a result I am legally blind in my right eye and it will never get better. I have struggled for the last 3 yrs trying to adjust to this handicap as I am not an old person. This Dr. was negligent in not sending me to a retina specialist, had he done that, they could have saved my eyesight. BEWARE when going to this practice. I would really hate for someone else to have to go through the hell I have gone through. read more

Stay away from this place! I was told my new lenses cost $270.00, so I paid them $270.00. I asked the clerk to be sure to post my payment on the receipt so I could turn it into Aetna Insurance for a $250.00 refund that was allowed to me for lenses and frames under vision care. Behind my back and without my knowledge they billed Medicare for $520.00 for the same lenses! When I found the billing error in the Aetna website when I returned from an out of state one week later, I contacted Aetna and told them to cancel the claim and stop the EFT payment to Sugarloaf that was due to be paid on 8/27/2019. They told me they cancelled it on 8/26/2019 and gave me a confirmation number for the stop payment. I told Aetna I was going to Sugarloaf Eye Care the next day to tell them to give me a replacement corrected receipt or to return the lenses. When I spoke to the Owner of Sugarloaf she told me their clerk who handled the transaction was "on vacation" and that she did not make a mistake and refused to take back the lenses or give my money back. I explained to her that I was never told they were processing an insurance claim through Medicare and that I was never told the lenses cost $520.00. She told me she had already been paid and there was nothing I could do about it. So basically they committed Medicare fraud by charging me and charging Medicare double the cost for the lenses and kept my refund from Aetna. read more

Dr. Christensen is AWESOME!! I made the mistake of going to another eye care place that could not get my contacts right and left me with blurry vision; after 2 different contact fittings. We've been going to Sugarloaf Eyecare for years now, and I've always been a fan. While not the cheapest around, they are very thorough and Dr. Christensen is excellent, as is the office staff. However, with the addition of Dr. Woo, I am not as impressed. I went in with a severe case of dry eye, and she did nothing to treat that except give me antibiotic eyedrops, which presumably prevented an infection but did nothing for the condition itself. I ended up having to see an opthamologist. Shortly thereafter, a friend who went in on my recommendation was treated rudely by her. He was having difficulty keeping his eyes open for the air puff test and she basically told him she didn't have time for that, she was too busy. When making an appointment here, be sure you know who you'll be seeing, is my best advice. read more
