My husband bought my birthday cake here that apparently needed to be refrigerated other than during serving - I don't recall the flavor. When I asked them about it (my husband had left it out after he brought it home) they apologized said they should have told him the care instructions and sent us a gift certificate ($25 but the cake was over $40) . The following year I tried to use it to order a cake and was told I needed a 14 day notice. Well today I go to use it and realize it's expired. I hate when gift certificates expires. It's the same as cash that never expires. I called and asked if they would honor it and was told no. I used to love this place, we even got our wedding cake from them but it's unfortunate that they wouldn't honor it - it's not a coupon. I was going to still have to pay on top of the GC. So they lost my support and business. I will NEVER Recommend them or stop here for cupcakes again. I will find another local family owned business to support and give my money to. I prefer to use a company that wants to make things right. Birthdays only come once a year- my fault for not realizing it expires. read more

So disappointed in Sugarlips Cakery. I had found this bakery for my brother's wedding and it was great! They had an amazing experience in cake tasting and got a good deal on their demands for multi flavored wedding cake. The grooms cake fell through two days before the wedding rehearsal and I was in a bind. I called up Sugarlips Cakery and they were able to make a brilliant groom cake for the party within such short noticed. I had talked this bakery up and down to everyone I met; referred countless people to them. So, for my son's birthday we decided to go with Sugarlips Cakery. How could this choice go wrong? Planned in advance, picked up an hour before the birthday party to make sure it was at its best. When it came time to serve the cake... the CHILDREN wouldn't even eat it. A bite here and there with the majority of the cake slices still on the plates. I served a few pieces to the adults and then one to myself. It was so dry and the flavor was terrible. I mean, who could mess up chocolate???!! And why would a fresh cake taste like we left it in the Arizona heat for a few days? My husband called to complain to management and their response? We should have stopped serving the cake and brought it back for inspection. I am expected to collect the slices already served, leave my son's birthday party, and drive all the way back to the bakery so they can decide if it was worth the $90 paid??? I apologize to those I referred this bakery to and will ensure I let anyone and everyone know that this bakery is in poor taste; literally and figuratively speaking. I urge you to go somewhere where your money will be well worth spent and not taste like the dollar box of cake mix at Fry's Food Stores. read more

This bakery is AMAZING!!! We have been using them for years for my daughters birthday cakes and other celebrations! They are great to work with and do fabulous work!! read more

Cakes are amazing, moist and their buttercream isn't too sweet

I heard about this place from my friend and decided to go and check out flavors and options for my engagement cake. The lady at the shop was nice and was able to show me two flavors although I had not booked cake tasting . I really like the almond with chocolate mouse and raspberry. Although it was way too expensive for my budget I decided to go ahead and go all out with two layer cake and design. I wanted a flower on it but they did not have it so had to go buy it myself. Day of my engagement came and my cake looked nice and flower make it look classy. However, when we tasted both layers there was barely any filling and all was tasteless cake . All guests disliked the cake taste and ended up not eating any of it. I was so upset for the price I paid and for the bad memory in my engagement . I don't recommend this place as they are overpriced and underperform! read more

I was treated with courtesy, patience, and great customer service. Young lady made me feel that my order was important, helped me and I didn't feel rushed. Thank you!!! My daughter loved her birthday cake, cupcakes and I immediately ordered a Thanksgiving cake and am planning my Christmas cake as well. read more

Sugarlips Cakery - 1st Birthday cake! Dinosaur theme! - Bakeries Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

I love love the Cupcakes..and so do my clients. Great taste, great presentation, great prices! I frequently use this bakery due their great products. But the staff never smiles....ever. They seem bothered every time. For such an uplifting place....people should be more pleasant and welcoming. I will continue to use, but after at least 4 recent visits in the last month, I feel it is important to mention the importance of being more friendly to your customers. read more

THANK YOU! Let me say that my son and his new wife were in love with their cake from Sugar Lips! The theme of their wedding was "Princess Bride". The cake they ordered looked exactly like the design they made. It was perfection! My daughter-in-law designed a tree stump. They matched the design exactly! It was delicious too! Everyone at their wedding commented on the uniqueness of the cake, the design, and the flavors which were chocolate and peanut butter. read more

Best cake/cupcakes I ever had. Decadent cake and delicious buttercream. Designs are beautiful. Highly recommend!

I wanted to order a cake for a family graduation party. I was taken aback when a one layer sheet cake that would feed 20 people would cost nearly $90. Too expensive for me. I wasn't shown any photos of designs either, which would have been helpful. I think listing basic pricing online would have been helpful. Instead I drive 15 minutes just to find out I'm not going to pay a small fortune for a regular cake. read more

I have been coming here for years! The service and quality of the cupcakes and cookies is second to none. I highly recommend!

They get the stars for design! Beautiful cake decorated to look like a birthday gift. We have used Sugar Lips for special occasions. I always recommend them to people looking for a good Cakery. My daughter ordered a white vanilla cake for my 70th birthday. When we cut it we discovered the cake was yellow. She called and was told that basically it was her fault -that there was a lack of communication. You are the professional , you should make sure the customer understands their options. read more

I was in a hurry and didn't have time to travel to my favorite place. So I just stopped at Sugarlips & purchased a 6 pack of cupcakes (vanilla, salted caramel, 2 irish cream, orange creamsicle?, and bananas foster?) The good: They looked beautiful!! The caramel drizzle was good. The staff was awesome! The bad: I took them to school and we all tasted each of the flavors. Unfortunately, they all tasted the same. The flavors were not strong enough. The frostings were not good either. It didn't taste like real buttercream or cheese....it tasted heavy on the shortening or whatever they cut it with. We ended up throwing away most of it...wasted $17. I'll stick with my favorite spot - Small Cakes in Scottsdale. read more

Oooh great find today. Family was out as someone had to visit dr office nearby, this was a great sweet treat before heading home. Yummy cupcakes just the right size and great flavor! Not too sweet, just perfect!!! If I lived a little close, would be a regular (and would probably be 15-20lbs heavier! Ha!) read more

I absolutely love our local cakery Sugar Lips !!! The place is bright with tons of natural light and such cute decor with great parking and they also have a great peak a bo window so you can watch the talented decorators hard at work , But that's only a fraction of why I love this place. First and foremost let's talk cupcake , the cupcakes at Sugar lips are beautiful looking as well as tasting, and the ratio of frosting to cupcake is almost perfect!! Sugar Lips is also one of the few places that I can find Pink champagne cupcakes on a regular!! The cakes from Sugar Lips are just as amazing as their cupcakes. I got a cake for my nieces baby shower and it was beautiful and the hit of the shower !!! I use Sugar Lips in the future for special events and on just a Tuesday afternoon!! read more

I attended a cake tasting with my daughter for her upcoming wedding. Sugarlips was highly recommended by wedding venue. The "consultation" was far from one. The woman helping us brought out cupcakes, cut in half with a smear of filling on the top, and icing next to the cake. The presentation was terrible if you're trying to give he bride an idea of how her wedding cake with look. The consultant wasn't helpful at all. She had us look through photo albums for ideas, instead of probing the bride with questions about the wedding. She repeatedly said, "I'll give you some time to discuss." Perhaps she thought she had to merely present the butchered cupcakes and take our order. We tried the pink champagne, white with raspberry filling, and white with strawberry filling. After not being impressed by any of the options, we purchased red velvet and carrot cupcakes. The red velvet was terrible! It tasted like vegetable oil. Everything we tried, (five different types of cake) were dry. Long story short, after another consultation with different cake bakery, where we had a completely different experience, I decided to write this review. read more

After getting my haircut nearby I seen this place and decided to give it a try. Real glad I did I bought two cupcakes a sprinkled one and marble. I really like this bakery and bring my kids here for a special treat girls day. It's got the sweetest little table in the back and a little play kitchen set for kids to play at. The pink champagne flavor cake/cupcake is absolutely amazing and their decorating skills are great. They listen and are great at making your vision a reality while keeping within a budget. They also do events during the summer for the kids which are seriously AMAZING and so kind and considerate of them and really community based i feel, just like their cupcake happy hours on Wednesday and Saturdays. My ONLY complaint is every once in a while the person working at the front counter isn't the friendliest, it really just varies, and that can be offputting and make you feel unwelcome or rushed. But most of the girls are so nice and so friendly and stop to talk to you about the summer and the events. It's a great ship with great cake. Highly recommend! read more

This bakery made the most wonderful unicorn birthday cake. I had sent them a few pictures and it came out exactly as I had described. Not only was the cake beautiful, but it tasted delicious. I would highly recommend for any special occasion. read more

I have been going to the place for years to get my cupcake fix. Their cupcakes are delicious and moist with just the right amount of sweetness. I feel that they don't overwhelm their cupcakes with frosting like many places do, or at least other places that I've been to, and their cream cheese frosting is so good! Can't say enough great things about this place. You gotta try for yourself and I promise you won't be disappointed! read more

I used them for my wedding cake and they did a fantastic job. I set up the tasting appointment (which was a small fee that goes toward a purchase) and it went perfectly. I gave them the types of cake and frosting I wanted to try in advance and on the day of my appointment they set aside an hour of time for me to try them and to consult with a chef about what I wanted the cake to look like. I ultimately choose pink champagne with buttercream frosting. At the wedding my guests couldn't stop raving about how good the cake was. I had one guest who found me just to tell me that it was the best wedding cake they had ever had. I didn't want anything fancy and used real flowers as decoration that they placed for me. They listened to what I wanted and created the exact cake I had imagined. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I won't go anywhere else for a specialty cake. read more

First time customer and I ordered a custom birthday cake. I wanted an origami bird for someone who loves origami and I wanted the cake to be teal. They came through and the cake itself was delicious!! Chocolate with buttercream and it didn't have that gross chemically flavor that some chocolate cakes have. We ate that thing for days and days and it was still moist and delicious. I will be back for more including their free cupcake days! read more

Sugarlips handled the desserts for our recent October wedding and they were phenomenal! We had a small cake for my husband and I as well as about 100 cupcakes for the guests. They looked adorable- the coloring was perfect- and the cake itself was to die for. We want to order a wedding cake now just because! They stuck with our theme in the coloring and even added gold "glitter" on our cupcakes that made them look absolutely beautiful. If you need dessert for a special occasion definitely go here! read more

We had two custom cakes made from this amazing bakery, a birthday cake and a medical school graduation cake. All of the staff was a joy to work with and the cake was out of this world. I went to several bakery pricing a cupcake cake for a baby shower and fond the prices to be comparable around the Tempe area, but I ordered from Sugarlips Cakery because of the variety and pleasant staff. I brought in a picture of the woodland baby animal characters and I selected the color of Teal and Orange that I wanted as the trim and writing. There were 3 dozen cupcakes to make the actual woodland scene and it turned out BEAUTIFUL. I ordered three different flavors with a fourth flavor on the side. All flavors were great tasting. The cupcake cake was a big hit at the shower. I would recommend this place for all occasions. read more

Sugarlips Cakery made us a beautiful wedding cake! I found out about them when my then-finance brought home a strawberry lemonade cupcake from a work event and it was amazing, so I knew we had to look them up for our wedding. We had a teeny (8 people) wedding at a restaurant, but they put as much effort, detail, and beauty into our cake as if we had bought a full size cake for a large wedding. And it was DELICIOUS! We got an 8-inch round with pink champagne cake, vanilla buttercream frosting, and lemon filling, decorated with black damask detail and topped with fresh red roses. Everyone thought it was gorgeous and tasted amazing. Wonderful work! read more
