The Sugar Bowl is great. A little hidden if you don't know where to look. I'm a big fan of the place. Walked past this place like everyday going to Campus. On my way back home I usually stopped here to chill out and just read and people watch. And yes the Cinnamon buns are that good!!!! came here a couple of times in the summer. 1st time i had their jerk chicken, it was ok. i also just got back from jamaica at the time and had the real jamaican flavour so it was hard for me not to compare. it was packed when we got there but got seated right away in a corner near the patio. we got eaten by mosquitoes. 2nd time going there i had the goat cheese burger, it was amazing!! it was juicy and creamy! definitely will be ordering that again. our waitress was not very friendly tho, she barely smiled and didnt attend to our table much. Had the eggs benny here, it was nothing spectacular I thought. The service was good, we were seated quick, I think I would come here for a beer and appetizer more than I would be back for brunch. Really liked the decor as well, it did seem a bit hipstery but not too pretentious. read more

I had a hankering for mussels for a while and kept seeing SugarBowl pop up when I googled mussels in Edmonton. Ended up being an all-around amazing restaurant! I've been twice and have got the mussels both times so I can't say too much for the other food, but my boyfriend has had the mushroom burger and the jerk chicken burger and thought both were really great. For $14, you get a huge portion of mussels and a big bowl of fries. Beer selection on tap is awesome. If you plan to go during peak hours, then plan to wait a bit! Worth it though - hoping to try the brunch soon. read more

How is it that I've lived here for five years and just discovered this place??? Everything about this place is perfect! Even the wait to get a table - it just wouldn't be the same without it. This place has a very hip, young vibe. The small and cozy interior just adds to its ambiance. We actually got to share a large table of six with another couple who were already eating and I thought that was fun, fun, fun. And they still had their outdoor patio set up with heaters on and there were a few tables that decided to eat outside - loved it! The wait went quick though and we were inside in no time. As we are always on the hunt for the best Eggs Benedict wherever we go we were anxious to try the SugarBowl Benny. OH MY GOD!! Easily the BEST we've ever had and we just had two great Eggs Benny in Palm Springs last week. The Eggs were perfectly cooked - soft, but not watery and undercooked (which many places have a hard time delivering). The real surprise was how much I LOVED the corn bread they were served on. And I also thought I would miss the hollandaise sauce but the Béchamel sauce they served it with was so incredibly tasty. The combination of the corn bread, back bacon, perfectly oozing soft eggs and the Béchamel sauce cannot be beat. And the potatoes were perfectly cooked as well. It was soooooo good! My mouth is still watering for it and we will be back soon. I really want to try the Chicken and Waffles and the Mac and Cheese so we may have to go back after breakfast and brunch is done otherwise I know I'll be craving that SugarBowl Benny. The staff there are great. They were attentive and engaged and seemed to really enjoy working there. The service was quick and efficient. As others have said, they have a great beer menu - including a strawberry beer from Belgium that we recently discovered that we love. This is a must not miss place to visit. This is where I would bring all out of town guests, however, I would be concerned about the ability to get a table with larger groups. Overall, absolutely EXCELLENT experience. I've been to the Sugarbowl several times and if you are lucky enough to get a table- you get treated amazing by the staff. But, the low lighting at night isn't that great for blind dates. You can seriously get yourself into trouble if you don't have your glasses on. One time I met a guy here who was shorter than he said, balder than he said and the low light actually was a blessing for once. The server brought really great hot chocolate but sadly could not save me when the guy told me that "my clock was ticking." Hot chocolate can make up for a bad blind date though and I have been back many times for drinks with friends and apps with clients. read more

I came here about a week about with my sister and my mum for her Birthday. I heard it can get pretty busy, but thankfully at 9am on a Friday morning, we were able to be seated right when we got in. I've been here before and the atmosphere is a lot better when you're seated near the front. We got the very back table right by the washroom and it was FER A EEEZIG! I tried the Chicken and Waffles for the first time and it was actually really good. The chicken was cooked well and it was flavourful and the waffle was thick enough so it didn't get soggy from the syrup. However the service I would say is sub par at best. Service was fast and we got our food not that long after ordering, but most employees seemed to be walking around without much emotion and not looking very pleasant at all. read more

Best cinnamon buns EVAR - though there never seem to be quite enough. The Sugarbowl is definitely a bit of a hipster hangout, so take that for what you will. Either way, it's a cool place to people-watch (and eat), morning, noon, or night. That said, it's difficult get in on a weekend, and parking is very sparse (that's Garneau for you). Of course, most of the locals walk or bike here; the only people who try to drive are the townies looking for somewhere cooler to hang out than their local drive-thru Starbucks. You can spot them circling their SUVs around the block from 1.6 kilometers away. read more

This place used to a good little coffee shop with poetry nights, excellent snacks,superb coffee and then.....*poof* it got trendy. Cue up the overpriced food, detached uncaring waitstaff and incredibly noisy place....I don't go anymore. What a big disappointment.....that's I guess what coffee shops have become sadly. read more

Who doesn't love Sugarbowl? I do. The food has never been anything other than delicious and the atmosphere is quaint, cozy and hip all at the same time. I do prefer to come here earlier in the day, as the music isn't as loud (does that make me old?) and it's easier to converse with friends. I don't usually have any of the beer on the menu, but I do find that when I do I tend to have bad luck regarding picking only the beers that seem to be sold out. This place is well known in Edmonton, and well deservedly. Good food, good location and good times. read more

Location and atmosphere and the anticipation of the wide beer selection, were the highlights. The 3 of us had our first 4 selections off the beer menu rejected due to outages. The mussels were small and disappointing, the BBQ riblets were very average to below average and the poutine was standard. The worst was our inattentive server. She was a smartass when were disappointed with the beer outages, she would take an order for beer yet if the others didn't speak up to order, she would rush off and neglect the rest of the table. The service needs upgrading, but typical of Edmonton hospitality, I'm sure the ownership has to put up with a lot. read more

Great beer selection, awesome atmosphere, great prices. This is a great local business that I have been to many times and will continue to frequent. I love that I can go here for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner and there is always something on offer that I will like. Great GIANT cinnamon buns (thanks for providing half servings!) The rotating art selection is a wonderful concept since there is always something new to look at each time I show up. In the summer, the little patio is a wonderful place to be with friends. I just love this place! The only downside of the awesome Garneau location is the parking shortage, but what can you do. We should all be walking and biking more anyhow :) read more

This is a place where I dont mind wait for a bit. The staff are always very friendly although the restaurant is always extremely busy. Food are always presented well and taste great. Love how they offer latte and espresso drinks. A small place always full if people yet I never felt rushed or crowed. I guess it could be because I seemed to always have good time with my girls when I go there. One of the best brunch and late night hangout place. read more

Service was terrible today. 17 OCT 15 around 445pm. 2 different servers tended to us (2 ppl) and the wait was insane for our food to arrive. We were waiting for the bill and I went up and asked a server if she could get it and said no problem. She was peteite and had dark brown hair and olive skin. 10 minutes later nothing. I asked another random server and she fnally helped us. A total of almost 20 minutes just to pay! I also had the lamb burger it was super greasy and cold. Will not return. read more
