Arrived just after 9am on a Tuesday and it was busy, luckily we didn't have to wait for a table. Our server was lovely. We ordered the croque madame & speciality French toast. My meal (croque madame) was rather dry, I think if I chose my eggs medium instead of dry it would have been better, but ketchup saved the day. The hollandaise sauce is different as this one is sweet tasting. The server mentioned ask for it on the side so then I get more, and can dip. That was a good suggestion! Decided to try this place when we were down in St. Albert based on the reviews on Yelp. However, I left feeling quite disappointed. When we walked in, no one acknowledged us and when we eventually got seated, the hostess/waitress was quite rude. Maybe she was juggling many tasks? We ordered the specialty toast sandwich and eggs Benedict both with fries. The fries were exactly like Costco food court fries and I'm willing to bet they were frozen since they were quite mushy. The specialty toast sandwich was just a piece of bread loaded with tomatoes, a chicken breast, and cheese. I thought the topping was delicious with the balsamic vinegar but the bread on the bottom was saggy. However, that was to be expected since that's what happens when you put tomatoes on toast. The Eggs Benedict was pretty average. We ordered our eggs medium but they unfortunately came back well done. The hollandaise was quite bland and tasted a bit gritty. All in all, I didn't have the best experience at Toast but perhaps it was just an off day for them. read more

Visited this little hidden Traditional Irish Gem, tucked away in a corner of a busy plaza in the St. Albert area. The service was swift, and just saying that simply isn't enough. Our server had us sanitize our hands before entering and seated us promptly thereafter and took our beverage order. We both ordered the hungry man, with a few additions. The food was amazing, very cheap and affordable. Made with that special "home made care" we all love and crave so much. The service and the meal were pretty amazing, planning on returning there very soon. Visit this restaurant for a unique dining experience and happy dining! The place was busy with a short lineup when we arrived. No one greeted us at all, they definitely looked understaffed as the waitresses were clearly overwhelmed. They cleared a four top for the three of us and then some old dude (clearly a regular) decided to seat himself there even though he was alone and there were two tops available. The waitress said she had meant to seat us there, but didn't say anything to the guy. Luckily another table was opening up at that moment. The food was underwhelming to mediocre. My french toast was more regular toast than french toast (not dipped long enough). My husband's eggs benedict didn't have enough hollandaise for his liking. It was pretty pricey for the amount of food ($50 for the three of us, one being a toddler). The service was really terrible. When the bill came she ran by and dropped the bill and the machine at the same time. She didn't even break her stride and kept on moving without comment. I love brunch and my favourite is egg-benedict I got to try "The Surfer" which has 2 poached eggs with smoked salmon and red onions (i asked to omit) on a grilled english muffin with a dill hollandaise. The grilled english muffin made a huge difference! The crunchy-ness of the bread made everything taste better. I'm not a huge fan of dill but it complimented the salmon taste. For those who don't know or haven't heard of Toast - it is an Irish family own restaurant located in Sherwood Park and St. Albert. I havent worked up the courage yet to try an Irish dish but i will next time I stop by. read more

Had lunch here for the first time today and was very impressed! For a weekday, it was pretty busy at 11:30 but we were seated right away, and throughout or meal our waitress and who I assume was maybe one of the owners popped by three or four times to see how everything was going if we needed anything etc. So customer service was excellent. Food was also great- again, even though it was busy it came out very quickly, very hot and delicious! Nice sized portions, fresh ingredients, and cooked well. Oh-and they serve both regular and dark roast coffee, which is such a nice touch! The decor is nice and lots of little things to look at. Will definitely return! read more

I'm a fan! Having recently moved back to St. Albert after more than a decade away, I'm having fun discovering all the new food in the area! From what I can tell, Toast seems to have joined the scene in the last 2 - 3 years and we're sure lucky to have them! According to the history on their website, Toast Breakfast & Lunch was first opened in a small town in Ireland. Even before I read this, it was obvious that every staff member I encountered had a lovely Irish accent. The Brady family moved here from Ireland and opened this location of Toast. There isn't a waiting area, so if there is a lineup, you'll just be scrunched together in the doorway - and it does fill up on the weekends, so be prepared to wait a little. The parking lot can be a little cramped, even on the weekend when the surrounding businesses aren't busy yet. The is plenty of parking though... you just have to be prepared to walk across the parking lot. The servers are all incredibly friendly. As other reviewers have said, we weren't offered any coffee refills... but we didn't want any so I can't possibly deduct a star for it. We shared the Classic Eggs benedict and a side of bacon. Bacon was steep at $4.50 for 3 slices. Eggs benedict is worth anything they want to charge for it... and next time I won't share it, I'll just get a whole order to myself. It is by FAR my favourite eggs benedict. The hollandaise was like nothing I've ever tasted. I can't even put my finger on what was different about it but it was amazing. When we were done, I asked (who I assume was the manager/owner) if they made the hollandaise in house and she proudly said yes. I told her that it was the best I've ever had and she said that in all the time they've been open, they've only had 2 customers not like it (that they know of). She was so proud of the food coming out of the kitchen. I agree with others that the prices are high. We had 1 coffee, 1 small orange juice, 1 eggs benedict, and 1 side of bacon and our bill came to just over $25.00. But it's clear that everything is made fresh and they are very passionate about what they do. There is a kid's menu, but no senior's menu, which is strange in St. Albert. I will absolutely be back. Coming from San Diego, we were visiting my MIL. We tried this restaurant twice in the few days we were in town. First my husband and I went for breakfast, the owner came and took our order and really seemed to want to make sure we were treated well. I had the basil and tomato omelet. It was very fresh and light tasting. The potatoes with it were hot and delicious. My husband had the brie eggs benedict. He was very happy with his as well. A couple of days later we went back, taking my MIL with us. I had a wonderful salad with beets, bacon, arugala, apples, corn, etc. I asked for the cilantro lime dressing (which was supposed to be for another salad on the menu) and I really, really, wish I could have the recipe for this dressing. This salad was a winner! All of us at the table had a cup (actually a bowl!) of the soup of the day. It was potato bacon and was so delicious that my mouth was watering when I thought of it the next day. It is not often you find a place that can actually make a good soup. This cafe is reasonably priced, and the staff were helpful. I would love to go again next time I visit St. Albert. read more

St Albert has had two recent trends... Fast food burger joints (6 and counting) and breakfast cafes (2-3 new ones in the past year). Toast is the newest member on the block and they look like a force to be reckoned with! Serving authentic Irish favorites like black & white pudding imported from Ireland as well as English/Irish bacon they are showcasing the food from their country quite well. The full Irish breakfast has eggs, 3 different meats, beans, tomatoes, homefries and of course their namesake... Toast! Now that's a hearty first meal of the day! They are open most days until 3pm so you can have your breakfast for lunch as well! I haven't tried the coffee yet but if they've put as much thought into that as their food then I'm sure its good! The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of a shopping complex and has a bakery and pub as neighbors. The parking lot can get somewhat full but there is overflow spots that are still very close. The decor is simple and clean with a homey touch of some books lining a shelf. I enjoy a good breakfast/brunch and I'm looking forward to enjoying many of the options that Toast offers! read more

We went here for breakfast. It was excellent. They have a great variety. They have gluten free options available as well (you do need to ask your server). The gluten free pancakes are delicious, you get 3 huge ones. Plus your choice of side. You can get fruit with them as well. Their crepes are delicious as well (not gluten free unfortunately). I do believe they make them from scratch. The bacon and egg crepes are delicious. There is a great variety on the menu which is always nice. Coffee is good, you can get regular or dark roast. The service was great, friendly. It was a week day on this visit so not overly busy. However on weekends this place is generally packed. It is on the smaller side with not a lot of seating so sometimes there can be a bit of a wait for a table, but it's worth it. It's located in a strip mall, lots of parking available. read more

Came around 1 on a Saturday, so it was pretty quiet - though I can see it being very busy if we'd been there for the breakfast crowd. Service was really friendly and prompt, which was nice since we were in a bit of a hurry. The Surfer Benedict (smoked salmon) came with a healthy portion of potatoes and a side salad. The salad didn't seem like a great match - a fruit salad would have worked better. The Benedict was cooked properly, but the dill hollandaise wasn't our favourite. It came out too creamy, and was reminiscent of a mayonnaise more so than a hollandaise. The full Irish breakfast had a lot going on: two eggs, sausage, baked beans, Irish bacon, potatoes, grilled tomato and toonie-sized pieces of black & white pudding...oh, and toast (or you could have Irish bread instead). The white pudding was delicious! Crispy, flavourful and a nice change to typical breakfast fare. The black pudding didn't have as much flavour. My bacon was over cooked so it was tough and dry. Very sad face. :( Aside from the white pudding, the rest of the items were pretty standard and didn't really jump out at me. Both breakfasts and a coffee came to $40ish before tip. Not the cheapest breakfast option, but I liked that there were things that you don't always see offered. read more

If you like breakfast you will love Toast! This charming little restaurant is a family run business (hosted by an Irish family that ran a successful restaurant of the same name in Ireland). Now with two locations one in St. Albert and one in Sherwood Park they are easily accessible for anyone in Edmonton or surrounding area. The food is truly delicious and you can actually get tea by the pot (which if you drink tea like I do it's a big bonus!). The eggs benedict is amazing and always done just the way I request. This is a small little place, so when I came on a Sunday in the early afternoon I was shocked to even get a table, but my mother and I managed to with no wait. The homey decor and what I assume is local art on the wall makes for a great atmosphere. The menu is standard breakfast/brunch/lunch fare. Lots of egg dishes, cubed potatoes, and sandwiches. Everything is averagely priced. I opted for a healthier alternative and got poached eggs with a fruit salad and cottage cheese. It's a fairly easy meal to make, but all that aside it still tasted great. The coffee is great and the service was even better, which impressed both of us because they appeared to be understaffed. We took our guests from down east out for brunch and I was so embarrassed. First, our server forgot to bring us our coffee. She is new so we just chuckled. Then we noticed my SIL's cup was dirty; thankfully on the outside. Our server took our orders and by the time we received our food the people who came in right before us were on their way out. A couple who came in after us already had their food. My SIL ordered the Hangover omelette and they put hash browns in it... not supposed to be there and since she eats low carb they were definitely not wanted. A bit of a pain to pick around them but she chuckled and kept eating. That is, until she pulled a long-ish hair out of the omelette. GROSS! I was disgusted and so disappointed and embarrassed. I took my Irish mate here because someone told us that they had a proper full Irish breakfast. The breakfast comes with eggs, toast, bacon, pudding, beans, and fried tomatoes. It was approved of and appreciated by the Irish lad who had been missing having a fry up like at home. I had a burger with poutine. The burger was very good but the poutine was very disappointing. It came with grated mozzarella and floury gravy but the fries underneath were very good. I will say the service here was some of the worst o have experienced. There was no greeting and we were left standing by the door for close to 10 minutes. When we were finally sat things moved very slowly and it took forever to get the bill and pay at the end. I think this is a great spot if you know someone from Ireland or the UK and they want a full breakfast. read more

My husband has been going to Toast for quite some time, but this was the first time for me. I ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict and he ordered an Omelette. We both ordered their dark roast coffee as well. When my order arrived I was surprised that there wasn't much hollandaise sauce but realized there was more than enough once I started eating. I also am a fan of the crispy English Muffins! The salad provided with the meal was just enough as there were ample potatoes as well. My husband ate his salad first, which surprised me as he usually only enjoys Caesar salads. He indicated that his omelette was delicious as well. He was able to finish his potatoes, but had no room for anything else. The service was friendly and quick. My only complaint would be that there were no coffee refills.
