    Specialty toast sandwich
    Ivy H.

Decided to try this place when we were down in St. Albert based on the reviews on Yelp. However, I left feeling quite disappointed. When we walked in, no one acknowledged us and when we eventually got seated, the hostess/waitress was quite rude. Maybe she was juggling many tasks? We ordered the specialty toast sandwich and eggs Benedict both with fries. The fries were exactly like Costco food court fries and I'm willing to bet they were frozen since they were quite mushy. The specialty toast sandwich was just a piece of bread loaded with tomatoes, a chicken breast, and cheese. I thought the topping was delicious with the balsamic vinegar but the bread on the bottom was saggy. However, that was to be expected since that's what happens when you put tomatoes on toast. The Eggs Benedict was pretty average. We ordered our eggs medium but they unfortunately came back well done. The hollandaise was quite bland and tasted a bit gritty. All in all, I didn't have the best experience at Toast but perhaps it was just an off day for them.

Visited this little hidden Traditional Irish Gem, tucked away in a corner of a busy plaza in the St. Albert area. The service was swift, and just saying that simply isn't enough. Our server had us sanitize our hands before entering and seated us promptly thereafter and took our beverage order. We both ordered the hungry man, with a few additions. The food was amazing, very cheap and affordable. Made with that special "home made care" we all love and crave so much. The service and the meal were pretty amazing, planning on returning there very soon. Visit this restaurant for a unique dining experience and happy dining! I hope your experience is as amazing as mine or better!

The place was busy with a short lineup when we arrived. No one greeted us at all, they definitely looked understaffed as the waitresses were clearly overwhelmed. They cleared a four top for the three of us and then some old dude (clearly a regular) decided to seat himself there even though he was alone and there were two tops available. The waitress said she had meant to seat us there, but didn't say anything to the guy. Luckily another table was opening up at that moment. The food was underwhelming to mediocre. My french toast was more regular toast than french toast (not dipped long enough). My husband's eggs benedict didn't have enough hollandaise for his liking. It was pretty pricey for the amount of food ($50 for the three of us, one being a toddler). The service was really terrible. When the bill came she ran by and dropped the bill and the machine at the same time. She didn't even break her stride and kept on moving without comment. Maybe it'd be better if they were staffed correctly? She was clearly busy.

I love brunch and my favourite is egg-benedict I got to try "The Surfer" which has 2 poached eggs with smoked salmon and red onions (i asked to omit) on a grilled english muffin with a dill hollandaise. The grilled english muffin made a huge difference! The crunchy-ness of the bread made everything taste better. I'm not a huge fan of dill but it complimented the salmon taste. For those who don't know or haven't heard of Toast - it is an Irish family own restaurant located in Sherwood Park and St. Albert. I havent worked up the courage yet to try an Irish dish but i will next time I stop by.

I'm a fan! Having recently moved back to St. Albert after more than a decade away, I'm having fun discovering all the new food in the area! From what I can tell, Toast seems to have joined the scene in the last 2 - 3 years and we're sure lucky to have them! According to the history on their website, Toast Breakfast & Lunch was first opened in a small town in Ireland. Even before I read this, it was obvious that every staff member I encountered had a lovely Irish accent. The Brady family moved here from Ireland and opened this location of Toast. There isn't a waiting area, so if there is a lineup, you'll just be scrunched together in the doorway - and it does fill up on the weekends, so be prepared to wait a little. The parking lot can be a little cramped, even on the weekend when the surrounding businesses aren't busy yet. The is plenty of parking though... you just have to be prepared to walk across the parking lot. The servers are all incredibly friendly. As other reviewers have said, we weren't offered any coffee refills... but we didn't want any so I can't possibly deduct a star for it. We shared the Classic Eggs benedict and a side of bacon. Bacon was steep at $4.50 for 3 slices. Eggs benedict is worth anything they want to charge for it... and next time I won't share it, I'll just get a whole order to myself. It is by FAR my favourite eggs benedict. The hollandaise was like nothing I've ever tasted. I can't even put my finger on what was different about it but it was amazing. When we were done, I asked (who I assume was the manager/owner) if they made the hollandaise in house and she proudly said yes. I told her that it was the best I've ever had and she said that in all the time they've been open, they've only had 2 customers not like it (that they know of). She was so proud of the food coming out of the kitchen. I agree with others that the prices are high. We had 1 coffee, 1 small orange juice, 1 eggs benedict, and 1 side of bacon and our bill came to just over $25.00. But it's clear that everything is made fresh and they are very passionate about what they do. There is a kid's menu, but no senior's menu, which is strange in St. Albert. I will absolutely be back. And I will absolutely not be sharing this time!

St Albert has had two recent trends... Fast food burger joints (6 and counting) and breakfast cafes (2-3 new ones in the past year). Toast is the newest member on the block and they look like a force to be reckoned with! Serving authentic Irish favorites like black & white pudding imported from Ireland as well as English/Irish bacon they are showcasing the food from their country quite well. The full Irish breakfast has eggs, 3 different meats, beans, tomatoes, homefries and of course their namesake... Toast! Now that's a hearty first meal of the day! They are open most days until 3pm so you can have your breakfast for lunch as well! I haven't tried the coffee yet but if they've put as much thought into that as their food then I'm sure its good! The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of a shopping complex and has a bakery and pub as neighbors. The parking lot can get somewhat full but there is overflow spots that are still very close. The decor is simple and clean with a homey touch of some books lining a shelf. I enjoy a good breakfast/brunch and I'm looking forward to enjoying many of the options that Toast offers!

Definitely recommend and will be back for again. I liked that "home fries" were hashbrowns and not French fries. I was pretty disappointed in my "Veggies" - 2 carrot sticks and ranch. Carrots were fresh and crisp but portion was super cheap. Boyfriend got the California Benedict. Was very happy with his but he wished he could have chosen to get 2 eggs. Friend got the Eggs Sunset. She loved the hollandaise sauce and portion. Everyone easily finished their plates but were full after. Very happy with the food here. One minus star is the seating. Tables are Soooo tight. My friend had a bigger man sit behind her at the next table and she had to sit with her chest against the table so he would fit. Not pleasant. I also could not leave the table easily (trapped) as I was the inside seat.

Yam fries were 10/10 - super crispy, well salted. Chicken sandwich was a moist and well cooked but not very flavorful. Liked the honey taste. Not enough slaw in my opinion but the garlic mayo was nice. Bun was super soft and fresh. Overall not the best or worst chicken sandwich. 8/10. Friend got the Cure. Fries were cooked well. Bottom ones were a touch extra salty they reported. gravy was very nice and light. poached eggs were WAY overcooked and totally hard boiled. Friend got the Central Breakfast sandwich. Liked this. Egg was still a touch runny which was expected and desired. Too bad it does not come with any sides so friend was hungry after. Dessert we tried the House-made doughnuts. Tasted fresh (not piping hot htough). Cinnamon sugar coating was nice. Very doughy but not raw. Dip was super watery and tasteless. Would have preferred more smaller donuts to increase how much sugar topping you get per bite. Overall I would not get again as they were pretty meh.

This restaurant, even before you sit down, tells you that your table is reserved 5 1/2 hours later (sometimes they inform you it's reserved for the next day). Very strange, I guess they want you gone even before you sit down. At first, I thought our group got that special treatment, but no, the hostess makes sure every group shares in the awkward experience. This whole interaction sets the vibe for the service to follow, and yes, it's very strange. It's like the restaurant wants your business, but then doesn't want you even there. Interesting business operations plan. The food is alright, a little overpriced for the actual quality you are getting. Personally, avoid this place, it pretends to be sort of high-end, but it has ghetto service. Go to Earls instead, a restaurant that actually wants your business.

Just make your way to XIX. We went in on a Thursday evening and were seated in the lounge. The salad we ordered to share as an appie was good. Drinks were delicious. We ordered the Coconut Atlantic Salmon and the Tenderloin Steak medium rare. The salmon was good, but the steak was cooked beyond well done - so much so that it was chewy. I asked to have the steak sent back and ordered the Harvest Salad instead. After a little while, my partner was almost done their meal and my salad had not arrived, so I asked to have the order cancelled. The server said she would cancel it, then came back 5-10 minutes later to say that it was almost ready and asked if I still wanted it. By this point my partner was almost done with their meal. I said I'd still like it cancelled and ordered a dessert to take home. The server arrived after about another 5 minutes with a box. Thinking it was the dessert, I was about to ask for the bill, but she said it was the salad and I could take it or leave it. I told her I did not want it, she said she would leave it, and repeated that I could leave it if I wanted. The dessert came soon after along with the bill. The salad was still on the bill. I asked to have it removed and the server said she could not. She called over the manager who said they were not going to take it off the bill because I took too long to cancel it. I explained that I cancelled it, at least 5 minutes passed before it was "almost ready," and then it arrived another 5-10 minutes after that, so I did not want it, nor did I want to pay for it. She said they had already "comped" the steak so I had to pay for the salad. I told her there was nothing to "comp." The steak was inedible (I had one bite out of it and returned it), so not something to comp. It was an awful meal that no one should have to pay for. I had asked for the salad to be canceled, so again, I was not asking to have anything for free. My night was ruined, I was upset, and just wanted to leave. At this point, I didn't even care anymore, I told her I'd pay for the salad and wanted to go home. The manager said she'd ask the chef if he would take it off the bill. Again, I said no and asked for the bill with the salad so I could just leave, but she left anyway. What felt like at least another 10 minutes passed before she came back. This time she said the chef had taken the drinks off, but I had to pay for the salad. The whole experience was terrible, but the last bit felt like I was being held hostage. I wanted to pay and leave, but couldn't because they wouldn't give me the bill. We took our boxes and left. I still don't know what the point of all this was. Sure they don't want to loose money. Then why offer a steak you don't know how to cook? And, comp? Do they know what that means? There is nothing complementary about having inedible food you cannot eat taken off your bill. I ordered the salad and cancelled. I don't know how their kitchen works, even if I had taken too long to cancel, I did not deserve to be kept there after I agreed to pay for it. They took the drinks off and not the salad? I think the difference what $8. Does the $8 matter that much to them? Was it some deranged power move?? ... like a "haha, we won't let you have your way!" Oookay, you guys win! Guess I shouldn't argue with a guy who can't cook a steak. He must know better than me.
