Grilled Cheese sandwich with Cream of Potato and Bacon soup. Superior comfort food, and very tasty.
Bradford P.

I have been revisiting haunts from my sordid youth, and Country Cookin' was one that popped up on my radar recently. This little neighbourhood breakfast and lunch joint has been around a long time, my first visit having been around 1978. In those days, I worked nearby, and a friend and I used to pop in here for a late breakfast or lunch. I remembered it as being a bit dark and cavelike, with low ceilings and muted colours. When I walked in recently the change was notable... It is wide open, bright and airy. Lots of light through the big windows in front, and a full wall mural depicting a pastoral landscape. There are lots of little country gew gaws around the place as decoration, and one could easily feel like they were in a small town diner. The menu has changed little, being made up of standard breakfast and lunch fare, but the food is well prepared, reasonably priced and nicely presented. When I was first in, I had lunch, going for a Grilled Cheese sandwich with a bowl of Cream of Potato and Bacon soup. It was fine comfort food, and made me resolve to return. The next week, finding myself in the Wild West End agin, I popped in for breakfast, going for the ubiquitous Bacon and Eggs. Once again, delicious, well prepared, and generous serving. The service has been friendly and efficient both times, with different waitresses each time. This is a place that is accustomed to getting folks fed in good order and good time, and it shows. Not open for dinner, your fixes will have to be planned around breakfast or lunch. If you like old fashioned neighbourhood diners as much as I do, check Country Cookin' out. It is worth the trip, and the few dollars spent.

If you are not looking for Country Cookin, you probably won't see it. This inconspicuous restaurant has been here for years. It's a very traditional café so don't look for avacado toast or some other trendy foods. They do have all of the traditional breakfast foods and the prices are very attractive. I ordered the corn beef hash. It was a a nice size; not so huge that you leave stuffed and not so small that you leave hungry. Notible was that they used real potatoes, not something frozen from a bag and not deep fried either. You get a choice of three types of bread. The classic breakfast is the real deal though. At $8.95 it's a real bargain. I enjoyed the coffee. It's better than the average restaurant coffee. By 11:30 on Saturday the café was quite busy; not full yet but certainly busy. This must be a favorite with the locals in the north west. If you like traditional breakfasts you'll like it here. I didn't look very closely at the lunch menu but it seemed to have a lot of choices.

Epic Market - My Pork Bennie for Brunch, $18.00 in 2024.

Brunch is offered on Saturday and Sunday, otherwise they open for lunch (closed Mondays). Epic Market is huge. This will be a very popular place for the Whyte Avenue crowd as there are so many options available depending on which floor you enter. We were on the second floor today for brunch but the first floor, which has a similar look and feel, has a Mexican menu. It opens for lunch at 11:30am. It's a unique concept for Edmonton. The server said that they've opened similar restaurants in larger cities like Toronto but Edmonton is their first venture into a "smaller market". The brunch menu was interesting with some unique features and some typical offerings. I had the Pork Bennie, for $18.00 in 2024. The prices are quite reasonable for the type and quantity of the food. My bennie was good. My only criticism is that a special house ketchup would have been a nice touch. The service was excellent and we had a nice view of Gateway Blvd out the window. The coffee includes endless refills which is good because the cups were not very large. I'm sure the vibe is much different for dinner than brunch, but based on our experience, I'll definitely return.

My wife and I both ordered the Chandru Special for $17.50. It's a crepe with bacon and eggs inside plus some cheese slices melted on top. There was a side of fresh fruit. The presentation was somewhat lacking as the cheese slices made it look like something you find at your children's birthday party. The dish definitely needed some sauce to help it down. At least the fruit was good. Our server was very skilled at tunnel vision as she didn't see us even when walking right by our table. Eventually we caught her and got a refill for our coffee. She was pleasent enough when she arrived but definitely didn't want to do refills. On a more positive note, my friend ordered an omelet which came with potatoes that looked like thick potato chips. They looked good and he liked them. If I return it will be because I am in the area and can't find a better place. In other words, three stars out of five.

My mom and I shared some french toast as well, and it was so yummy! It was fluffy and soft, very edible so it was gone before it went cold. The service was excellent. There was one lady serving people but it's a small place and she managed it so well it didn't even feel busy, so that was not an issue. She was super sweet by the way! She got honey for my coffee and such. Overall, its a good place to go. Not too expensive and its got a lovely, quiet family atmosphere. If I can, I will return!

The place definitely has an old school diner vibe going and that's not from clever decorating. This is an old school diner. We didn't want breakfast and I think that is their specialty so we each ordered the clubhouse sandwich. It came with soup and fries. The soup was from a can so that's not impressive. The sandwich was okay though. Service was prompt and friendly. The washrooms were clean. That's about all I can say. If you are nearby and hungry, by all means stop in. However I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to dine here.

Thankfully for this trip, it was for work so we paid less than what normal people would pay. Love the staff, love the environment, the features of the room. My only complaint is that, it seems their 6th floor's ceiling is lower and the hallways seem darker. I love that there is a bus stop in front of the hotel and the bus 55 goes to West Edmonton Mall

I was contacted a year later by a new general manager, who addressed my issues, and promised a successful event for 2016. I booked our event with Elizabeth, who was beyond helpful and accommodating. I had so many changes with guest lists, and table arrangements, and Elizabeth happily accommodated every request. The night of the function, I arrived early and there were some things that weren't quite set up right, but the banquet supervisor worked quickly to get things in order. All the staff were very friendly and super helpful. I felt like they all had their A-game on. When there was a discrepancy on the banquet order about what time we had the room until, the supervisor was extremely accommodating. I absolutely love the "Top of the Inn". It's a spectacular room with floor to ceiling windows on both sides, overlooking the city. The room was renovated just a few years ago, and there are stunning sparkling led lights in the ceiling that really make it feel like your under the night sky. This would be a very romantic spot for a wedding. The food is always great here. Buffet's can always be hit or miss but they do a great job here. Many of the guests commented on the food. The banquet prices are competitive with other hotels in Edmonton. Out of all the Edmonton hotels I've held banquets at, or attended banquets, I really think that the Top of the Inn at the Delta is the most stunning. And after the great service we had this time, I won't hesitate to book again.
