I'm sad to say something has changed! I'm not sure if there is a new baker or a new recipe BUT the doughnuts are not their usual light fluffy buttery dough. They are now dry, dense, and heavy with icing on top. I ordered $32 worth of egg nog, vegan cinnamon buns, vegan Apple fritter, vegan strawberry filled and strawberry icing. There was ample parking (due to current conditions, I'm sure). The inside was very clean and the service was quick and friendly. I ended up getting a maple bacon donut and it was gluten free (but was really tasty, I've had my share of GF things and sometimes the taste is lacking). Uh oh found a good donut shop! Had a hankering for a donut so came here and of course walked away with four. Thankfully, they have regular donuts, not just vegan. I got the French chocolate, Nutella, Boston cream, and cinnamon crunch. They were all good and I will definitely return to try more. The man working was really friendly. Every time I find myself in south charlotte, the thought crosses my mind that I need to make a pit-stop here. The great thing about Sugar Donuts is that their donuts are DELICIOUS and hand made. They sell them until they run out (which usually is the case) so I'm always driving down here with the worry that I waited too late in the day that all the donuts are gone. They also make Vegan donuts for our friends that are vegan. The shop itself is small with a long bench that provides half the seating for the handful (4-5?) bistro tables. I would say this place is more equipped for carryout, rather than large groups, but I've enjoyed a quiet cup of joe and a donut here before. A line forms out front in the rain and even folks who've ordered online are supposed to wait in the line - those who grow impatient tend to skip the line anyway and then the others get annoyed.
