Beautiful cakes and even more beautiful service. Prompt and communicative will definitely use if in the area again. read more

Sam made our wedding cake and it was BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS! Which would already earn her a 5 star review. But on top of that, she was a dream to work with. Very responsive, helpful and accommodating. Picking vendors during COVID-19 can be very challenging. We were unable to do a tasting in-person, so Sam got creative with a cake tasting to-go box for us to pick-up and taste on our own. She packaged it up really cute and helped us not feel like we were missing out on a step of fun wedding planning. As a Bride, when you're balancing a million vendors to have someone who is kind and super on top of it to alleviate some stress, it's huge! She dropped off the cake on time and even worked with our florist to bring all the elements all together for us so I could mentally check it off my list. I can't thank her enough. It was so beautiful! I would highly recommend her to anyone! read more

We couldn't ask for more in regards to our cake. Samantha was quick to respond and very helpful with all of our questions. Since Covid caused a lot of uncertainty for weddings, we decided to ditch the big wedding and do a small, intimate elopement in beautiful Joshua Tree. We ordered a little, 2-tier naked cake that matched our desert-boho theme. We did vanilla on the bottom and almond on the top, and both flavors were really good, the best vanilla anything I've ever had! The presentation is 5 stars, taste is 5 stars, and hospitality/service is 5 stars. If you're doing a wedding/elopement in the Joshua Tree area, get your cake by Samantha! I think if you don't, your marriage might be doomed from the start. read more

We cannot recommend Sam's cakes enough! Samantha called us ahead of time and delivered promptly on time which was great since we weren't from the area. I found SAM Co off of Yelp and was nervous because we wouldn't be able to taste the cakes ahead of time but everything was perfect. She made three cakes for us - 2 birthday and one wedding cake and each was executed to perfection. I was shocked that she made a cake IDENTICAL to the Pinterest pics I sent. Furthermore, the taste of each cake was out of this world. I am from the South (Georgia) and my grandmother makes all of her cakes from scratch and did wedding cakes for 30+ years so it is very rare for me to complement someone else's cakes, but Samantha's cakes were undeniable. She also went the extra mile by providing extra supplies such as support tools for the cake and candles. We especially loved the lemon. Sam from Sugar and Magic was the fairy godmother for my birthday in Joshua Tree last weekend. I asked her to make "cactus cupcakes" - she took that ridiculous request and created the most beautiful desserts I've ever seen! We almost had a hard time eating them they were so pretty, but once we finished taking a million photos of them as finally bit in we realized they were delicious, too. The packaging was thoughtful and sturdy enough for even a klutz like me, and she even included adorable "30" candles for me to blow out. Thanks, Sam, for taking such great care of us even though we had a tiny order! Looking forward to using you again next Joshua Tree wedding or weekend away. read more

Sam did our wedding cake. My husband and I had a tiny wedding out in Joshua Tree and she created a cake that fit our boho desert theme. The presentation was beautiful but the taste?!? OMG BY FAR THE BEST WEDDING CAKE IVE EVER HAD! Our flavors were Dutch chocolate with vanilla bean frosting and marshmallow fondant. It was heavenly! I'm normally not a fan overly sweet fillings, frostings or fondant but hers is the perfect amount of sweet! It's dreamy to eat, our guests loved it and I'm just so happy we had some left over because were still enjoying our little wedding cake! I will update my review with front facing photos of our cake when we get them back from our photographer but for now here are two our guests took! Thank you Sam!!! read more

Sam is an incredible artist and baker! We ordered a two-tiered wedding cake with Vanilla Bean Frosting and Lemon sponge featuring sugar gum-paste succulent decorations which looked 100% real. We also ordered 25 vanilla/vanilla cupcakes which were incredible and had succulent-designed piping on top. They were a hit at our wedding and guests started eating them before we could even cut the cake! Haha!! We would give Sam at Sugar and Magic 10 stars if we could and highly recommend her services. read more

You will not regret engaging Sam for one of her amazing creations!! We just did a rock n roll smash cake with her for my son's 1st birthday and it exceeded our expectations, tenfold!! She went off a few Pinterest inspiration photos and photos of him-- and captured the exact vibe we wanted with so little direction! Sam is truly an artist! Additionally, a week later I received a thank you card from her! Small personal gestures like handwritten notes seem so rare these days so it was a refreshing reminder of how much small business owners appreciate their clients. read more

Adding to my previous review now that our wedding has passed - Sam blew us away with the cake she delivered for our Yucca Valley wedding. Her sculpted flowers were so perfect that on first glance I thought she had scrapped our plan for gum paste and decided to use real flowers instead! The guests were all raving about the flavors (we chose lemon with lemon buttercream for out main cake and almond with almond for our sheet cake) and design, and I'm pretty sure I saw some folks going in for not only seconds but thirds! Sam was also kind enough to lend us one of her cake stands last minute when the one I ordered wasn't sufficient to hold the cake. She is an angel, an artist, and an absolutely brilliant baker! read more

We were going to the "dessert" to celebrate my daughter's 6th birthday and my wife volunteered to purchase her cake. She reviewed three different companies before choosing Sugar & Magic. First of all, the name of her company embodies the spirit of my daughter...how could we not choose it. Additionally, after reviewing various companies, my wife was most impressed by Samantha's craftsmanship; she was drawn to her artisanal flair. Lastly, Sugar and Magic proved to be very affordable given that my wife ordered 2 dozen cupcakes and a mermaid cake that needed to be delivered in Palm Desert. Overall, everyone was completely satisfied with both Samantha's cake & cupcakes. Myla was extremely happy with her mermaid cake, the guests loved the Dutch Chocolate Cake and Vanilla Cupcakes, and we were extremely satisfied with Sugar & Magic. So, when you are in need of a cake artist whilst in the desert, do yourself the favor of choosing Sugar & Magic and let Samantha provided the sugar you crave by working her magic for you and your family. read more

I'm from out of town and wanted to find the perfect cake for my niece's 1st birthday. I found Sam's company through yelp and reached out to her, sending pictures of cakes and the theme of the party. Sam helped create an amazingly delicious wedding cake for our wedding on October 11,2019. We had a lemon cake with vanilla frosting and chocolate cupcakes on the side. I searched up nearby cake bakeries here in Palm Springs, but ran into this bakery. When I tell you I did NOT expect this amazing(not that they aren't capable) 9x13 sheet cake to be this detailed. I cannot recommend Sugar and Magic Cake Company enough. I reached out to Sam a week before we were coming to Joshua Tree for my husband's birthday. We discussed different design options and although I ended up opting for a simpler design, she called me half-way through baking it to ask if she could embellish the design further because she really wanted the cake to look its best, free of charge. It was so sweet of her and showed how much she cares about her product. She was so accommodating about my timing for picking up the cake, which was particularly tricky since we wanted to keep the cake a surprise. Thank you, Sam! read more

If there were a million stars, that is what I would give Sam! I am awed by her creativity and compassion. The detail in her work is beyond! Also, she was so lovely and comforting to work with. I was ordering a cake for my son's 30th birthday and I'm back east -- so I felt a bit lost being so far away. Sam listened to everything I shared, felt comfortable to share her own experienced thoughts, and provided me with the security I needed being far away that the cake and service would be impeccable - and it was! I'm waiting for a clear picture of the cake to add to this post, which I'll do once my son wakes up this morning :) In the meantime, if you are in search of the most incredible cake created by someone with tremendous talent and is a wonderful human to boot -- wanted to be sure you read this review! read more
