    Sweet cream pancakes and bacon
    Jennifer S.

Had the best pancakes of my whole life here. They look normal but oh my lawd they were amazing. Bacon was Music was a whole vibe. We got a hug before we left, felt like my cousin owned the place. Gratuity was included on the bill and we didn't notice so we tipped twice. But, that's on us. We will be back fs.

Upon entry, the restaurant wasn't busy, but we waited about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We then waited an additional 10 minutes to be seated. They might have been short staffed- which is understandable. The chairs at the table were at an awkward height, so it was a little difficult to enjoy the food based on the angle. The food was good though!

Went here for my birthday. They wouldn't seat us until the whole party was there. It was three of us and we were waiting for one person. The restaurant was slow since brunch was winding down. I asked could we be seated because I wanted to order drinks and food for the table since it was my birthday. They would not let me sit at the table, but insisted that we sit the bar even though the restaurant was nearly empty. That really frustrated me so I ended up actually not ordering a drink even when we were seated. The food was delicious good, but the portion sizes did not match the prices. The food was way too expensive for the small amount of servings you were given. I would try to go back here but not during the weekend brunch, maybe during a lunch special or dinner special but I don't think paying $22 for a slice of toast and three wings and $24 for the equivalent of a plate of grits is acceptable. The food being delicious is the only reason for there not being a lower rating.

First off I have to stop listening to social media influencers they are dangerous. Because this place isn't that good! Now it is the food good yeah certain things on the menu. Heads up Gratuity is here even if it's only two people. Those Mocktails are Oceanspray so if you don't want any high fructose corn syrup skip the mocktail... or juice selection unless it's in-house made. (They have some stuff that's house made or by other vendors) They are still relatively new so don't expect top notch on point service. They are still trying to figure it out. Like they sat me at the bar and they didn't give us any silverware. We ordered appetizers and they came out super close to our food. The kitchen was behind and they kept telling us our food was coming it took about an hour and some change. (Best time to go is maybe at 2pm ish lighter traffic) I ordered the cinnamon roll French toast! Sounds amazing right. It's Dry so dry and hard! Syrup or not. Eggs were cold. Cheese add is $1 egg add on $6. Appetizer was Hot honey Salmon! We are all on a hot honey wave. Well don't expect that here it's a fancy cocktail sauce that's definitely suppose to be on a shrimp. It's not a taste of hot or honey in there baby. Listen when you go just don't have your hopes high. Just expect brunch.. basic food It's like a casual vibe here looks like people link for meetings here and celebrate birthdays a good spot to stop after church or something.

    Suppose to be gumbo

WORST SERVICE & FOOD!!! Will never come back. Waited 1.5hr to be seated. Once seated took another 1hr to get food. Appetizer were horrible. Old chicken wings & Cesar salad had watery dressing. Main dishes wasn't fresh andhot. Warm food, bad service. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY

The food was amazing. The service was very slow. The bartender was very attentive and polite. The hostess not so much which is sad as she had the most amazing smile. I did like the ambiance a lot. I will come back for a round 2 to see if I can raise these stars!

9am on a Thursday - just needed a breakfast boost lol and ordered a grand mimosa per bartender recommendation. I specifically mentioned I'm not a sweet taste cocktail type a lady yet he insisted it's not.....guess what? It is. Needless to say $20(it was a full glass). Gratuity included.

Unfortunately my experience at this restaurant was incredibly poor. I arrived at 9:30, I was greeted immediately by a very kind hostess. Everything went downhill from here. The waitress we had (Ashley) was slow and had horrible communication. She took our orders for mimosas after a long wait and then let the glasses sit at the bar not pouring any mimosas for 20 minutes! The place wasn't crowded at all, and i now know why. She never communicated that she didn't have the blueberry syrup for my requested mimosa and after flagging down the nice hostess to ask her to inquire she let us know this information. Our waitress then came over with these mimosas without any apology only to discover that they had used blue coloring for my drink? So it wasn't blueberry at all just blue. My water never got refilled, she never checked on us to ask how things were going cause if she had she would know I was unsatisfied with my drink. I had to go ask another person to remake me another drink and they were happy to but also very slow moving. The food eventually came, after waiting another long wait to order then to get the food, and it was decent but I wouldn't anywhere else ever pay $30 for a 1 piece of bread French toast plate. That's ridiculous. If you're from Detroit don't waste your time. The quality and customer service is subpar to any normal diner you've ever been to for 3x the price, go to coney! poor customer service and AUTOMATIC 20% gratuity regardless of party size. I was a party of 2. If you're from out of town, risk it for the biscuit and try literally ANY OTHER PLACE. I won't ever return and I am disgusted with the lack of care and concern at this place. Shocked!

Awesome brunch & breakfast spot - their grits and catfish/blackened salmon dish is amazing. They also have an incredible peach cider beverage and a nice fruit platter side. Service also extremely attentive. Interior ambiance very stylish with plenty of seating, including at a bar where you can watch TVs (one was showing Delicious Destinations - Bizzare Foods). Highly recommended!

Very solid spot for brunch/lunch and I'm so glad they're downtown - we needed a spot like this! Prices are fair and food quality and service was great. Everything was highly seasoned, and I'd return specifically for the fried green tomatoes and seafood gumbo. Everything came out hot and freshly prepared; the crab cake was tender and full of crab meat, and I don't think I've ever had better fried green tomatoes - the perfect texture and flavor. The shrimp and grits looked amazing, and even the meat lover's omelet looked good. I think they could upgrade their coffee offerings to include espresso drinks, but they just opened, so maybe that's on the horizon. We were greeted warmly and seated right away, our server was attentive, and the chef came over to speak to us. The decor is cute with comfy cushy chairs and vibey R&B music; a very pleasant environment. We will definitely be back!

I was pleasantly surprised by my meal at Sugah Please. I had read a few reviews that made me cynical, but my friend wanted to try it so we came. I'll be honest and say that the place wasn't very clean and the vases on the tables had dirty water with dying flowers, but other than that, it was great. I ordered the veggie omelet with a side of bacon and the omelet was amazing. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and seasoned great. It was packed full of veggies like spinach and peppers. The toast was also tasty as it seemed to be grilled on a griddle or pan rather than toasted. The meal was filling and kept me filled up most of the day. My friend also loved her food. The decor and furniture here is super cool with velvet chairs. I definitely recommend their food but they could really clean up the place for an extra star.

The food was DELICIOUS! There was a bit of a wait but well WORTH IT! The service was exceptional and the Chef(Eric) came out to apologize for the delay. Ambiance and decor is beautiful and the vibe and music are ON POINT!

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

There were friendly patrons all around and we chatted with other bar admirers. We checked out the coffee shop, Warda, but didn't purchase anything then, but have had several of their desserts since then and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is wonderful, indoor/outdoor bar, great outside seating - not sure how this will work in the winter? They also have very pretty stone paths with multicolor stones mixed in for a very peaceful beautiful look. It inspired me to add some multicolored stones to my garden! I can't wait to return.

Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced.
