The office has 17 customer service stalls, but usually, only about 4 are operational since COVID. The pace for being seen is relatively good. The customer service is good, and they all seem interested in assisting you in completing whatever you came in the office for. For me, the mood of a government office is pretty somber, and it is hard to get past the feeling that most people are seriously stressed out when they come through the door. I will say that the first person you see is a security guard who offers you a grin when you offer her one. She seems very pleasant and eager to help people. This office is so much more peaceful than the offices in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. The citizens demonstrated a definite sense of entitlement in the way that they complained about everything from the seats to their wait time. I like the atmosphere in Portsmouth much better, I know that's a first, but it's true. I knocked off a star because I am back today because the representative forgot to submit one document that held up my form. She did complete it and give me a copy with a date time stamp so everything is dated properly, so I still think her laughter and smile in a government office on a hot afternoon before Labor Day weekend was awesome.

Let's dive into details on how the visit was. The library is located right by an Elementary school and apartments. I only sat in the lobby area after walking inside to rest for a few hours to read a book I brought from home. Adjacent to the lobby, you have three entrances to the Treasurer, Commissioner of the Revenue and the main room to the library. I'm sure each area has been cared for by staff. For the lobby, it was spotless and each table appeared clean. And it was air conditioned well, which was good for me considering the Yelp Elite event was gonna be outside. Foot traffic was minimal. Very perfect for me with reading. Couldn't have asked for more. If you're in need for some quiet time, a library is always there. Thanks Norfolk Suffolk Library for providing it for yours truly :)

It is easy to park and come into city hall. The area around the building is always clean and tidy. Inside the building is clean and the floors are shining. I hope more Portsmouth citizens take advantage of visiting their City Hall. I found that the workers love to interact with people in person and it helps me explain what I am here for with visual clues. People are better than clicks on a computer. My visit was short but I accomplished everything I came in to do.

It is at the side of the road and reads, "The town was occupied by Union Troops from May, 1862, until the end of the Civil War. Confederate forces under Longstreet unsuccessfully besieged Suffolk, from April 11, to May 3, 1863, when they withdrew across the James on Lee's orders." Online, there is more information. On April 11, General Longstreet's forces crossed the Nansemond river and attempted to capture General Peck's garrison at Suffolk. However, Peck had managed to secure it and held even though there were quite a few naval encounters where the Confederates attempted to bring gunboats to bear. There was a lot of reinforcement, building and minor skirmishes but in the end Longstreet was unable to capture the garrison though he was successful at protecting Richmond. Let's see how this visit went. The library is on the smaller side compared to most of the libraries I've been to in Hampton Roads. They have two floors with the top mostly with computer tables. There are a few private rooms available if you have a group or if you prefer alone time away from folks. The decor is neat of course and the vibe is pretty quiet. From the side entrance, you run into some artwork. I'm not sure if they're from local artists, but they're really nice to view. Only though I was here for short times, this library has been a good place to rest. The next time I'm in the area, it'll be a go-to for me :)
