Dr. Onispir-Kafali is amazing. I'm not sure at all how she could get negative reviews. Her bedside manner was such a relief when I was nervous for my procedure. She made me laugh, she got me talking, and she really cared about my aftercare and overall health. She went above and beyond to go over possible side effects and benefits of my course of action with kindness and patience without any prompting from me. I highly recommend this location and practitioner, I'll definitely be coming back!! read more

She is literally the rudest doctor I have ever met. She calls everyone fat. She is absurd.

If you're looking for a knowledgeable and passionate expert in her field then look no further. Dr. Kafali has been a part of my life since I moved to Chicago at 19 years old. Seventeen years later and I still feel her affect on my life regularly. She has seen me through many scares, performed numerous/ successful procedures, and correctly diagnosed me based on symptoms, evidence, lab results, and her own intuition. She is a woman FOR women. That is evident after holding just one conversation with her. Add to her talents a medical team that shows more compassion then would be expected and continuously delivers excellent bedside manner and you cannot possibly feel anything but in safe hands. Thank you, Dr. Kafali. Thank you for doing what you do and for sharing your passion to improve the lives of women. You may not ever truly know how many lives you have touched-but you have most certainly touched mine. All my love, respect, and admiration to you and your team. read more

I find Dr. Kafali's office and staff to be infuriatingly disorganized and rude. I wish I could say that this was a one time experience, but it has happened consistently now which lead to this review. Here are just a few things that happened at my last office visit... 1) I checked-in 15 minutes early. ONE HOUR after my appointment time they opened the door and called me back by my name. That is an excessive delay, and it has happened THREE visits in a row, which tells me that this is the norm, which is unacceptable. 2) They weighed me and checked me in. The nurse said, "I see you are here for your annual". I replied, "No, I'm here for an iud consultation, I'm not due for my annual yet". Nurse- "Yes, you're due for your annual Michelle". Me- "I'M NOT MICHELLE, I'M __________". Nurse- "Oh, I pulled up the wrong patient..." as she looks for my patient records on the computer to confirm that I was right in the first place. 3) They took me to my room and told me to change clothes, giving me a paper robe with an open back and a paper square to place over my lap, instructing me to sit on the potty pad on the "bed". I did the aforementioned and sat and sat and sat, with no clothes on and no one coming in to see me. I used my toes to reach the chair to pull my purse closer to me. I checked my phone to realize they kept me sitting on the table for 35 MINUTES with no clothes on and my feet dangling. This means that I have been in the office for ONE HOUR AND 30 MINUTES past my appointment time before the doctor has even seen me. I called the front desk just around the corner from me to tell them I had been waiting for 30 minutes naked and when would the doctor be in. 10 minutes later Dr. Kafali entered with no apology. I could go on an on an on with disorganized stories of this office. If medical personal were to go to this office undercover to review this office, they would be immediately sited or closed. They need to do a major overhaul. read more

She is unprofessional to say the least. As a patient that was expecting she treating me like crap. I was traumatized by the experience I could not talk about how she treated me as a pregnant patient. I find it hard to talk about it. She yelled at me and treated me like a child while I was nine month pregnant! I should've listen to my instinct to go elsewhere because the first time i met her it was showing me bad vibe. I still have a hard time talking about my experience because it was so traumatizing how she treating me and speaking about it brings me more pain. read more

Dr Kafali is the worst doctor I've encountered in my life. I don't know how she hasn't been sued for malpractice yet. She is very negligent, rude, and entitled. She doesn't listen to what you're saying, writes incorrect scripts, and doesn't provide room for questions instead gives attitude and useless responses when you ask questions about your script. On top of that, her wait times are ridiculous. I waited half naked in the cold room for almost an hour over my appointment with no "thank you for waiting" or "sorry for the wait" and then she rushes through your appointment. After treating me, she gave me a useless non-medical solution for what I'm going through and changed her treatment when I brought up my blood test results... which should have been considered when she was making her diagnosis. I started to ask questions ie if there are other options and she told me "This is the only option for your personal issues" ... after taking her medications for 5 months with no change I've gone to someone else and guess what, there are other options. read more

Dr Sue Burcu Kafali is such an excellent doctor I've ever met. First of all very warm, friendly and comforting. That is very important and very hard to find these days. She listens to you very carefully, she doesnt give you unnecessary anxiety yet, very detailed oriented. She neves rush her patients and makes sure that you are well taken care of. Also, her office staff are very friendly and they have such a happy environment. For people like me who has a doctor fear, a perfect place to go cause you feel very comfortable and in great hands. Dr Sue Burcu Kafali is not only a great doctor, she is a wonderful human being. I stress out like crazy going to doctors, especially for yearly check up as a woman. Dr Kafali makes ne very calm and comfortable at first, she takes her time to make sure I am all calm, then do my exam. This is very hard to find these days. Usually they rush the patient and dont even listen. If you go to Dr Kafali, you will feel not just great, also very comfortable and knowing that you are in great hands. Her office staff very friendly and professional also. I would never think to go see another doctor after seeing Dr. Kafali. read more

Dr. Kafali was by OB during my pregnancy. I wasn't thrilled with her, but as I was having a healthy pregnancy I figured it was all right. The office was disorganized, the staff was rude, she waved off my concerns, but I figured as long as she was a good doctor those things were passable. Our daughter ended up having a severe neural tube defect. Dr. Kafali waited over a week to tell us, though the results were immediately obvious on the 20 week ultrasound. I thought I was coming in for a normal prenatal checkup. Instead, she told me there was something wrong with the baby and that I needed to see a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist. She wouldn't say what was wrong. She wouldn't give me an idea of severity. The entire thing lasted 6-8 minutes, and she left me alone in tears. The office recommended a MFM but would not provide a referral. I didn't know what was wrong with our baby, so I didn't know what kind of doctor to ask for or where to turn. It was so incredibly stressful. Luckily my primary care physician came through with a referral. Getting my medical records from Dr. Kafali's office was like pulling teeth. When I finally got copies, they showed tests that were never ordered, checklists I never went through, conversations that were never had. It said that we had discussed the outcomes and severity of my daughter's condition, a condition I didn't know until that time that she had. Our daughter passed away. Dr. Kafali's office has not contacted us, which honestly is probably for the best. There's nothing they could have done to prevent what happened to her, but if it hadn't happened to me personally I would have a hard time believing the callousness and and lies we were treated to. read more

Dr. Kafali is amazing! She's very honest and knowledgeable. She truly takes the time to listen to her patients and provide them with the best treatment no matter what the circumstances. I wish I could give Dr. Kafali no stars. Dr. Kafali did my laparoscopy because i had a large, dermoid cyst. she didn't speak to me in terms i understand. for example, when you're telling your patient, "i'm going to try to save your ovary," doesn't always equate to understanding the possibility that your ovary could be removed. she never told me ONCE that there was a possibility, just that she was going to try to "save" it. She had me sign forms, rushing me, before I could read them seconds BEFORE I WAS BEING WHEELED INTO SURGERY. It was an awful and terrible experience that left me devastated. During my follow up exam, when I asked her why she removed my ovary her response was literally, "because it is dermoid cyst." What? She explained nothing, my appointment lasted five minutes, and in all, I was completely dissatisfied with my surgery. Not to mention, I still have stomach problems due to this surgery. After my surgery, I had massive abdominal pains that led me into the hospital for several months after my surgery. I don't recommend Dr. Kafali to ANYONE. I'm shocked she has positive reviews because she never explained anything to me, and never took the time to answer my questions. All she did was try to avoid my questions by giving me thoughtless, empty answers. And another thing, she prescribed me metformin and said I had PCOS. Little did she know I was being tested at that exact time for PCOS. Turns out, I don't have it. She didn't do ANY tests. She just based it off her "knowledge." read more

A wonderful professional who makes you feel comfortable during your visit. If you're looking for a doctor who will spend the time to get to know you, address your concerns and is truly invested in your health, I highly recommend Dr. Onispir-Kafali! The nurses and staff are also very professional, helpful, and kind. I want to address that on occasion you may have a wait for your appointment. It's always been reasonable in my experience, and you just have to be mindful that they are running a small, private practice. If a patient comes in who has more concerns than usual, they will require that extra attention and it could disrupt the schedule a bit. read more

I took my teenaged daughter to see Dr. Kafali. It was her first visit. Her office was clean and nice-looking. Her office staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. Before we arrived, I had to reschedule my daughter's appointment several time because of her busy school schedule, and they were incredibly patient and friendly about it. Also, I had a question for the doctor, so I thought I'd try emailing her over a weekend, not expecting to hear from her, and she (the doctor) replied within 24 hours. I was really impressed. My daughter's visit with Dr. Kafali went very well, as she was a bit nervous being her first time to an OB/GYN. She said Dr. Kafali made her feel comfortable, was very informative yet gave her plenty of time to think and ask questions. She had a good bedside manner, friendly, down-to-earth. I have a good feeling about this doctor. read more

First and foremost, to find such a negatively motivated review for Dr. Kafali stands in stark contrast to any and every experience I've had with her as my primary OB/GYN. Petty trivialities and nuisances aside; Dr. Kafali is incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and genuinely concerned in providing proper patient care. Above all else, I've distinguished these as NECESSARY, rather VITAL, characteristics in labeling a physician competent vs incompetent (e.g. Dr. Frankenstein). In my ample experience she has, on numerous accounts and amongst many other "above and beyond" anecdotes, Dr. Kafali has taken the time to simply chat to alleviate any anxieties before examination, answered all of my questions and concerns, and even offered a way to personally contact her if necessary. Moreover, if I have HEALTH related concerns or questions I absolutely seek out Dr. Kafali's expertise. If I need someone to indulge me like an insufferable toddler, then I would also advise going else where. read more

If there was a zero star rating, it would definitely be the one I pick. I can say that with the experience I had, Dr. Sue Kafali is the worst doctor I've ever come across. When I found out I was expecting, I quickly went online to search for a doctor who is experienced in high risk pregnancies because of my diabetes amongst other issues. I found Dr. Kafali and saw that she had many good ratings and I also read on her website that she deals with high risk pregnancies. I was happy to read all the reviews and decided to choose her to be my Ob/Gyn based on the good ratings. I even watched a YouTube video about her where she discussed why she decided to become a doctor who helped women give birth. Seeing that made me feel like she was a very caring doctor. Oh how wrong I was!!! Little did I know this doctor is the devil personified. As anyone who has ever tried to get an appointment with her knows, she was fully booked and I couldn't get in until a month later. I really wanted to be seen earlier as I was experiencing some spotting at the time and was curious to know what was going on with my pregnancy. However, by some confusion and misunderstanding with the scheduling, I was able to see her just briefly by end of January 2018. At that first appointment she seemed nice as it was quick and we didn't discuss much because she happened to just squeeze me in by luck. I was only 6 weeks along. She ordered some lab tests and told me to return in 2 weeks for ultrasound in mid February 2018. About a week after my ultrasound, we met again that month. At this appointment she did not bother to discuss anything about the ultrasound at all. She didn't even discuss the lab tests I had previously done. All she did was talk a lot of nonsense and was very dismissive. She didn't listen to my concerns or what I wanted for my care. The appointment was very rushed and she couldn't get out of there fast enough. She ordered genetic testing bloodwork without consulting with me and explaining what it was all about. She didn't even ask if it was something I wanted to do. I thought it was just a simple mandatory lab test. I only saw this doctor twice. One particular thing she told me at the second appointment that really got under my skin was, "I have no magic wand. You're going to be my most difficult patient." I will never forget those words. These hurtful words were coming from a doctor, the one who's supposed to be a provider of comfort and assure a patient that they will do whatever they can to provide the best care. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She made me feel like garbage, like I'm nothing. At that very moment, I made the decision that it was the last time I will ever see this evil doctor. Just a side note, her staff is very friendly and wonderful. However, Dr. Kafali has no compassion and listening to a patient is something very foreign to her. If you have medical issues that need extra care and attention, she's not the one for you. If you're looking for a caring, attentive doctor, she's not it. What a cold-hearted, unpleasant human being! I regret ever setting foot in her office!!! read more

Dr. Kafali is amazing! I saw her a few years back and was so happy to find her. She made me feel so comfortable which allowed me to ask all the questions that I would normally feel awkward about. My only complaint is that every time I saw her I would have to wait a substantial amount of time past my scheduled appointment which isn't fun. I do love that every time I saw her she had a different pair of funky glasses! read more

I love Dr. Kafali. I have been coming to see her for over a decade and I am so happy with the services I have received. She is very knowledgeable, approachable, and professional. I have never felt embarrassed asking any questions or relating any concerns. Even when I was young (over a decade ago) she treated me with respect and spoke to me like an adult. She helped me understand my options and honestly cared about my health. She does not try to sugar coat the situations. If she believes something is wrong, she will let you know so you understand what's going on and how you can address the situation. In a world where women's health is taboo to talk about, it is refreshing to actually hear and understand what is normal and what is not. When I found out I was pregnant (my first/only pregnancy), I was referred to Dr. Kafali by my primary dr as an OB for a 10 week appt. At 6 weeks I began to spot and then bleed, and my dr said I needed to see an OB or go to ER rightaway. I got a rushed appt to see her. I am really grateful to have been squeezed in the day, otherwise I would have had to go the the ER. The appt was quick, she seemed intelligent and quite competent. She did an ultrasound and showed me a fetal sac was present but likely empty. The only medical advice she gave was "The pregnancy is 50/50, don't tell anyone. And don't have sex. Make an appt with my girls to come back in two weeks." And to get blood drawn twice for HGC level testing. And that was it. I wasn't fit in until three weeks later, there wasn't room until then. I began to miscarry later that day and and had no idea what was going on. I called a nurse hotline to get medical advice on what to expect, what both a miscarriage and a threatened miscarriage are, why I may have been told I had a '50/50' pregnancy, what symptoms would warrant going to the ER, etc. To be clear, Dr. Kafali didn't cause the miscarriage and it couldn't be stopped. But I went to her for direction, for medical advice. And I did not get that. At all. Her schedule may have really been booked up through the next three weeks - but then I should have been told to find another OB who had time to help me. I was not called w/ the blood results, either. And my one phone call was not returned. In the end, my primary dr told me to go to the ER, where I found out I definitely was miscarrying and near the end of it, that I should see an OB the following week, how long the bleeding may last, what symptoms are ok and what aren't, why not to have sex and other things I should not do so as to avoid infection risks. The staff were very kind. read more

Truly inspiring, educational, comforting and expert. That was just the first five minutes. Dr. Onispir-Kafali had a different approach than any doctor I've been seen by. Dr. Kafali is great. She can be blunt, but she is always looking out for the best. My sister referred to me to Kafali, and I can see why. I am currently at 26 weeks of my pregnancy. She made me and my husband feel very comfortable and safe after she found out about my health history (my 1st pregnancy was a molar pregnancy). Our second pregnancy was not planned and, of course, we got lectured by her due to the pregnancy being so soon after the first one, and that's only because she treats her patients like friends/family. She has been treating me very carefully, and we can't wait to meet for our baby! read more

I have been experiencing very painful periods as well as a handful of other symptoms that line-up with pcos so I was looking for a doctor that would help me come to a potential diagnosis. At first when I voiced my concerns with her she seemed responsive and ordered blood work and an ultrasound to be done. I took the ultrasound right away and came back for the blood work the following week because I wasn't feeling well that week. A week or two go by and I didn't hear anything back, so I call the office at around 2:30pm. The receptionist informs me that Dr. Kafali was gone for the day and that she'd have her reach out to me for a follow-up. I never received a follow-up call. So I call back and the receptionist tells me that my results came in and everything came back clear. It seems very odd to me that the receptionist is looking at my file and giving me results, when I don't think she was aware of what we were looking for. I also don't think that's legal? I then ask if the results can be mailed to me and she agrees, confirms my address and hangs up. Two weeks later, still no results. I finally have the chance to go in and ask for my results in person. I spoke with Ty who then tells me that they aren't allowed to mail results and seemed surprised to hear that the receptionist told me this was possible. She looks up my information and according to my file, the receptionist called me for a follow-up with no answer, and I didn't have a voice mailbox to leave a message. I know that I have a voice mailbox set up, and even if I didn't why wouldn't I they try to reach me again? I don't think there's any record of the multiple times I spoke with the receptionist. It seems to me that the she would say whatever she had to in order to avoid actually doing something. I think the problem lies with the way the office is run. Dr. Kafali is obviously too busy so you're mostly dealing with her staff. Thankfully with Ty's help I was able to get a copy of my results so that I can take them elsewhere. read more

I'm a current patient of Dr Kafali's and I love her. I switched to her office at 20 weeks from an office where I had an IMPOSSIBLE time reaching the doc's and didn't know which doctor would show up on my delivery date. A friend recommended Dr. Kafali and I'm so glad she did. At my previous office some of the doc's answered questions with an air of "why are you even asking?" I'm a first time mom and, yes, I have a few stupid questions but that's par for the course. I appreciate that not only does Doctor Kafali take the time to answer my questions, she's friendly and reassuring. She answers emails after office hours and when I had an emergency question last week she called - again after office hours - on her cell and took her time to talk to me about it and not only reassure me, but offer advice for until the next time I see her. I've never had an issue with her secretary being rude as mentioned in previous reviews. She does joke about "its too early to complain" at one point, but she was being friendly and her point was partly "attitude is everything." Which I've found to be definitely true. But she also offered advise on how to deal with my insane sciatic pain. read more

Dr Kafali made me feel so confortable in her office that I did not miss my doctor from years ago. She is kind, patient and professional. She answered all my doubts in a way I understood perfectly. Every time I meet with her it's for no More than 7 minutes. She orders tests after test and is always asking about what type of insurance i have and then will recommend another test. She forgets what she writes down and has the same conversation with you for every visit.she is not thorough and does not explain things to you. Her staff is mediocre at best and provide proper customer service depending on Chicago weather. I went for my visit with Dr. Kafali. My appointment was at 4 and I didn't see her until 5. I had received a call earlier that day from a nurse Maritza asking if I had done a certain test and if I had gotten it somewhere else. When I got to the office, I explained this voicemail I received to Jess who was the front desk person. She said they were not open at 8:30 So she doesn't know why I got that voicemail. I then played it to her and she looked back to nurse Maritza. Apparently she had not noted on the call log that I had been called nor that she left a voicemail. I then explained to Jess that I didn't know what test she was talking about and that this was not the first time that they've requested information about a test directly from me. I explained that I didn't understand why they would need this information from me if they have been my sole obgyn for my last 6 months of my pregnancy. Jess couldnt find the request for the test in my log/chart. I didn't understand why I was being asked for this test if it wasn't even something that was logged. Then I waited an hour for nurse Maritza to triage me. She takes my weight and blood pressure and continues to listen to her Salsa music on youtube while completing whatever chart she had pulled up for me. Aftwr 3 minutes of not saying anything to me, I ask if she needs anything else. She says, "no you can go to the room now". Then the doctor comes in and asks me how I am doing. When I try to explain to her that there has been a lot of miscommunication she tells me that I should have come in earlier for an appointment. When I tell her that there weren't any available times for me she tells me that "perhaps I should look for a doctor that has availability on the weekends". What is someone's reaction to this? I told her okay doctor, alright, I will do that. So I left. I am completely disappointed in the level of care that I have experienced with Dr Kafali and her staff. My experience is completely an unacceptable standard of practice. I hope her other patients have more positive experiences because no one should be talked to this way or treated in this manner. I am entering my third trimester and the doctor wants to tell me to look for someone else. As I was leaving she said "this isn't normal" (referring to me walking out). You're right doctor, this isn't normal, the way you treated me today is not normal. Imagine someone talking to your daughter this way or anyone else that's in your family. Please, do better. read more

I had to pull my previous review because I was having trouble getting my records and didn't want to endanger it further. I would normally not give a bad review to a doctor, but my experience with Dr. Onispir-Kafali was so terrible that I think it would be unfair not to say something. She was very judgmental, did an unnecessary and invasive procedure that resulted in a false positive, and her English is very poor. I ended up getting good treatment at Northwestern hospital, where they correctly diagnosed me. If you want to know more, PM me. I would note that all the Yelp pages associated with her have filtered reviews that are suspiciously similar. And the only other "reviewers" here have only reviewed this doctor. Hmmm. read more

Let me just start out by describing Dr. Kafali. She is nice, knowledgeable... but hyper. She doesn't really answer your questions but loves to talk and talk. I was never once told "what to expect during my pregnancy or what to expect at every visit from here on out"... so basically I went in clueless. Well... At EVERY ob appointment, she uses her ultrasound machine to look at the baby. I bet this is a HUGE reimbursement by my insurance. Not a fan of doing elective ultrasounds every visit. A few gripes I have: the med techs that do the urines and weights like to wear their gloves into the waiting room.... YUCK! Also, many HIPPA violations happen with the names on the urine cups in the lab in the SAME ROOM that you're doing your weight and blood pressure. The scheduling: Don't be surprised if 4 people check in for the same appointment time as you. Once, I waited 2 hours to be seen because 3 new patients were scheduled at the same time as me! WHAT?! The reason I left the practice: In my 20th week visit, I asked Dr. Kafali what can I do about my painful hips especially in the evenings. Her reply? She said "I don't want to hear you complaining. It's too early in your pregnancy to complain." uhhhhhh what?! Did a doctor just really tell me this?! I would've been ok with a simple answer like stretch, yoga, swim, tylenol. no..... she basically told me to shut up. Wow. Good thing I don't have to go through a birthing experience with her. Who knows that she'd say then! I have transferred to a different OB inside of Masonic who said that they are VERY glad I transferred to them. They told me that Dr. Kafali doesn't do too many deliveries at Illinois Masonic. GULP! Another good thing I transferred!!! read more

I am new to the area and have been looking for a new OB in Chicago. I settled and got in for an apt with another doctor before her since she was booked so far out and man did I regret it. I finally 2 months later decided to at least go in with Dr. Kafali to review my birth control and meet her. I'm so happy she did. I wish I would've gone to her in the beginning. She's funny, kind, straight forward (but not in a rude or condescending way), and very educational! Which meant so much to me. Being that I was switching from one bc to another after being on the same one for over 7 years, I was a little worried. There were a lot of things happening in my body that I felt I was out of control. I also wasn't sure why my last doctor told me to look into IUD, Dr. Kafali educated me on the IUD as well and the current birth control I was. She also gave me "homework" to do so I could start prepping my body in a few months for pregnancy and my husband as well. I had a few personal questions and she reassured me everything would be ok and what to do about them. I felt so at ease and comfortable with her. I really enjoyed her company and she was so helpful! As for her front staff and nurse they are so kind and efficient as well!! Very friendly and professional. Got me right in, paperwork proceeded, nurse took me back and was so kind, everyone was great. I'm really happy I found Dr. Kafali and I will be going to her from now on! Highly recommend!! read more

It looks like she is very focused on making money. I had a second opinion visit with her, she pretty much didn't give me any answers, just ordered me to do very expansive tests, since quote: "ultrasound doesn't tell her anything". She wouldn't let me finish my sentence, so I wasn't able to tell her my history in details. She didn't examine me, didnt even have me undress, when I asked her about it, she said she coded this visit as a second opinion visit and I can schedule another appointment for the gyne exam. The whole visit last 15 min and now, 3 months later she charged my insurance $220 (on the top of co-pay)! It's a NO to any more visits with her! I saw Dr. Kafali back in November 2015 and all she did was tell me to get some unnecessary tests done. We met for five minutes and I probably only spoke for 30 seconds of that time before she told me to get all these test done for no reason. I felt rushed and my concerns disregarded the entire time. Also, I think it's great that I am just getting a bill for the office visit -- I'm shocked it took them 6 months to bill me. In hindsight, I basically paid her for nothing.
