Although I haven't been a patient of Dr. Gapinski's for quite a long time now, he delivered my now 21-year-old son in October 2000. He treated me wonderfully, and got me through the most important day of my life with calm and ease. He was a wonderful doctor then, and I'm sure he's only become an even greater medical practitioner in the years since I've seen him. Do not go to this doctor's practice unless you check their chart website often! When they leave you a message in the portal you will not receive a message at all. My doctor was Dr. Hussey. He left the office and I never received any notification. They cancelled my appointment without any notification and rescheduled me on a day I am not available. No courtesy call whatsoever. If I didn't happen to call about rescheduling my appointment myself I never would have known and could have been charged a no show fee! I canceled my appointment and stated I will not be coming back to that practice. They inactivated my chart. Terrible! read more

I have been with this doctor for 25 years. Only Geno I have ever seen. After my mammogram they decided to book me for a follow up. I called and canceled that appointment and they said I didn't. They charged me a no show fee that I refused to pay and sent me to collections. Now trying to book another mammogram and the secretary told me she can't book me and that they dropped me as a client! I was looking for a sole practitioner when I found out I was pregnant. Dr. Gapinski's serves as a sole practitioner and is affiliated with Central DuPage Hospital, with an office located within the hospital. From the moment I walked into his office, I felt welcomed by his staff. Dr. Gapinski has a very positive attitude and makes you feel at ease. He listens to your needs and wants and tries to accommodate them within medical reasons. I came to each appointment with a number of questions for the doctor or nurse Sarah. Both answered them in an easygoing matter, reassuring me of any fears I may have. I switched to Dr G's practice from my OB/GYN of 10+ years on the recommendation of another of his patients and I think that it was the best decision I could have made for myself and my baby. Dr G is a solo practitioner, so I knew that he would be the one in the delivery room with me - something my old doctor's office couldn't promise. The office has an answering service outside of office hours and no matter when you call, Dr. G is the one who returns your call, usually within 15 minutes, which created a huge feeling of security for this first-time mom. At appointments, he always made a point of staying in the room to make sure I had enough time to ask any questions or voice any concerns I might have, which made me feel like I was getting really good care from someone who was concerned about me and my peace of mind. His office staff is absolutely amazing as well. Amy at the front desk remembers patients names, is always friendly and helpful, and was knowledgeable about my appointments and paperwork. The nurses in the office were all very nice, and gentle when drawing blood! Michelle, the Nurse Practitioner with the practice, is so fantastic, I can't say enough glowing things about her. She is caring and warm, remembered all the details about my pregnancy and appointments, answered questions when I called the office, and made sure I really felt cared about. Really, really wonderful to work with. Also, Dr G's practice is located in the Outpatient Services Building at CDH, so it was a very pleasant and calming experience every time I visited - there is even free valet service, which was great as a 9+ months pregnant woman who didn't have the energy to fight for a parking spot! It was also great that because we were in the hospital, I never had to go to a different location for bloodwork or tests like I did at my previous practice. I switched OB/GYNs to Dr. Gapinski after he was recommended to my husband by his coworkers at Central DuPage Hospital. The nurses and anesthesiologists who recommended Dr. Gapinski had not only seen him in stressful situations in the operating rooms at CDH, but also chose him as their personal OB. Those are the strongest recommendations anyone can really provide, and over the past 9 months I've come to see why. At my initial "hey I'm pregnant, what now?" visit, Dr. Gapinksi sat down with my husband and me in his office to provide us with an opportunity to ask questions and get comfortable with him while I still had all my clothes on. We didn't feel rushed, or like any of our questions were "dumb." His level of personal attention hasn't waivered since that initial visit. We have always felt that our appointments are exactly as long as they need to be. Sometimes all I'm there for is to be weighed, have my blood pressure checked, and my fundal height measured, plus a Doppler check of the baby's heart rate. Other times, I'm there for an hour for a detailed ultrasound. No matter the reason for the appointment, we never feel rushed. I've rarely had to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes past my appointment time. My sole annoyance/concern has been that I've had to remind the staff that I'm supposed to receive various tests or shots at various appointments (or that I've already received them). I've also had Dr. Gapinski ask me questions like, "so what's your due date?" or "do we know if this is a boy or girl?" To me, that stuff should be pretty obvious from my chart, and I would think someone would glance at it before coming in to talk to me. So, while I'd suggest patients be proactive at their appointments, I wouldn't actually worry about the level of care you're receiving. Scheduling has been a breeze. I work in the city but live a couple blocks from CDH so I need evening appointments. With the exception of my ultrasound appointments, which have to happen during the day when the technician is there, I was able to schedule all my prenatal visits for 6pm or later on Monday nights (their late night) for the entire pregnancy. It's really nice to not have to miss work for the multitude of OB appointments that come along with being pregnant. I also really appreciate their online portal system. All my labs and test results are posted on their (private) website within a day or two. If something comes up abnormal, I also get a call from the nurse to discuss my results. They're fairly good about responding to questions submitted through the website, although it's better to just call if you have a time-sensitive question (like, "how much water do I need to drink before my ultrasound tomorrow?"). Overall, I've had a really positive prenatal experience with Dr. Gapinski and his staff. My baby is due in three weeks, so I guess the big finale is coming, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Gapinksi based on my past 9 months of care. read more

This is the WORST doctor's office I have EVER encountered! If you value your time and body do NOT go to this place! They will CANCEL your appointment for any reason what so ever. I waited several weeks to see the doctor, and was canceled by his staff member named Jennifer. She has to be the rudest person ever to walk to earth, (no joke). I was in tears with her on the phone of my very sensitive, major issues I was having and she had no care in the world and still took it upon herself to cancel my appointment. Dr. Gapinski is my hero! I am alive today because of him. I first met him when he was on-call in the ER and I was suffering a life-threatening post-partum hemorrhage 1 week after delivering my twins at another hospital and under the care of another OB/GYN. I was a bit nervous that a doctor I wasn't familiar with would be performing emergency surgery on me, but I quickly found out that not only was he the OB/GYN of the ER nurse treating me, he was also the OB/GYN of my daughter's PICU doctor!!! That immediately put my mind at ease and I knew that he must be the best. Sure enough, Dr. Gapinski expertly assessed my situation/condition and then performed life-saving emergency surgery. Because of his expertise and skill, I not only lived when many have told me I shouldn't have, I was able to avoid a hysterectomy. The follow up care I received from Dr. Gapinski while I was recovering in the hospital was second to none. He was compassionate, kind, caring and funny. His bedside manner is fantastic. He explained to me that he is a sole practitioner, which is almost unheard of these days, and when he explained why he's chosen to be a sole practitioner I knew that had he been my doctor all along I would have never been in the mess he found me in when we met in the ER. He truly gets to know his patients on a whole different level than a standard OB/GYN practice where you rotate between doctors at every appointment. Needless to say, I never went back to my original OB/GYN practice again, not even for my 6 week postpartum visit. I immediately switched to Dr. Gapinski , and he has been caring for me ever since. His in-office care has been just as wonderful as his in-patient hospital care. He has always been on-time, I never feel rushed, he happily answers all my questions and always makes me feel cared about (beyond just my OB/GYN needs). Not only is Dr. Gapinski second to none, his office staff is just as wonderful. From the receptionist to the nurses, they are all caring, kind and helpful. All the times I've told my story to other doctors/medical professionals at the hospital, they've all said the same thing: I am alive today because it was Dr. Gapinski on call in the ER that morning. I've been told countless times that he is the best of the best, and I've lost count how many nurses and doctors at the hospital have told me that Dr. Gapinski is their OB/GYN, too. I found Dr. Gapinksi simply because he happened to be in network with my insurance. However, he was the best accidental find that I could have ever asked for with a doctor. He cared for me all throughout my pregnancy and although he did not deliver my baby (he was out of town when I went into labor), he had an alternate doctor that was just a great as he was. I would imagine that dealing with pregnant, emotional, nervous women on a daily basis is wearing but he was so patient and caring and took the time to go through everything with me and I never felt rushed through my visits. And when I had some pre-labor scares, he always squeezed me in to make sure that everything was ok. He's got a great bedside manner and his staff is equally as wonderful and caring. He's very thourough and makes a point to call anytime you have a question even if it's the weekend or late at night. He has very good bedside manner and takes time to explain any questions you have in detail and so that anybody can understand. OB/GYN have a really important job and I took finding a dr. very seriously...having a good doctor you trust to deliver your baby is kind of a big deal after all. I did a lot of research and also interviewed Dr. G pretty well on my first appointment. I've been impressed with him very much and am happy I found him. His office is very clean and staff is very professional. Central Dupage Hospital is also very clean and modern. Parking is pretty easy and location is good. Dr. G is amazing. He is my OB/GYN and delivered my twin boys (now a year old). He made me feel very at ease and helped me through the entire higher risk pregnancy. The boys were delivered via c section, and Dr. G (and Dr. Carroll assisting) did a great job and were efficient, thorough and careful. He respected my strange requests and is very very easy to talk to. I had a different OB/GYN deliver my daughter (2.5 years old) and had an entirely different experience - I was in a group of doctors and the doctor that ultimately delivered my daughter barely said two words to me at the hospital. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Gapinski for almost 5 years now and he has delivered my 3 kids and took care of me after 2 miscarriages. I am a nurse and know that it can be hard to find a doctor that is both knowledgeable and has a good personality, and Dr. G is truly the best. I was initially worried about him being a solo practitioner but it has been great getting to really know him and feel like he knows me. It seems like he is always at cdh, even when I delivered at night. He may run a little late, but he is solo and babies come when they want. They have always told me and his np has filled in when needed. His office staff has always been amazing and he has a wonderful nurse and nurse practitioner. On the day of my first appointment, at Dr. Gapinski's office, I was greeted coldly, by a nurse by the name of Melissa. Nurse Melissa, became loud and argumentative with me upon my informing that I would provide my own height and weight as opposed to getting on the scale. She argued without success, to get me on the scale, trying her best to humiliate me, even mentioning insurance payment. My husband then intervened, stating that our insurance would not deny to pay for the services, for not getting on the scale, as he works for the insurance. Whilst in the room, I voiced my displeasure to Melissa, in not readily accepting my word, to provide my own height and weight. Nurse Melissa, replied, holding my gaze with such hostility, "I'm just trying to do my job!" Afterwards, when I met with Michele, the nurse practitioner, she agreed to refill my rx for a year. However, upon requesting an order for a blood test to monitor my hormones she queried, loudly, responding with such vehemence, "Why????" Taken aback by her "Very Uncalled for reaction," I explained that my previous gynecologist, had Always ordered blood tests to monitor my hormones, even with the knowledge that I was on hormone altering medication. Three weeks later, I still had not received my pap smear results, yet, was being pressured each time I called the office, to schedule a follow up ultrasound. What was the need for a follow up ultrasound when my first ultrasound had been fine? A month later, Dr. Gapinski, called me and : Agreed that I should have been informed of my pap smear results via phone or via mail; agreed that there was no need for a follow up ultrasound; apologized for his nurse, Melissa; and closed our conversation by saying, "Well, see you next year for your annual." Six months later, upon realizing that the nurse, Michele, had not kept her word in placing my rx for a year, I called Dr. Gapinski's office only to learn that they had dropped me from their practice. I was told that the amount of the bill, for which I had been dropped, was less than $30.00, and that their office does not place calls to inform of late bills. But I had not even received an invoice for this! Apparently, Dr. Gapinski's office, had conspired and devised a way in which to drop me from their practice. How convenient for them! Never had my experience at a doctor's office been so awful! My words to the nurses and staff at Dr. Gapinski's office: The treatment I received was totally Unwarranted, Unfair & Inhumane; No patient should ever be treated as I had been. My advice to Melissa, the mean nurse who defended that she's just trying to do her job: "Try Harder; For that matter, Try Harder, the whole lot of you! This office has changed, I have been going to this office for 4 years and recently the staff and doctor has become uncaring and rude. The doctor now consistently runs 45-60 mins late. The person who puts you in the room was very rude and did not listen. The doctor was in such a rush he didn't even listen either to my concerns and then charged me for two visits instead of my annual physical that I was there for. When I spoke to the office manager she did not care about my concerns at all and told me not to return then if I wasn't happy. I recently had a very upsetting and unprofessional encounter with this doctor, so much so that it has compelled me to write a review to warn the next woman about working with him in the future. I'd like to preface this by saying that I, too, hold a medical degree and am generally very tolerant and understanding of working in high stress, difficult to navigate situations. My sister, who was under Dr. Gapinski's medical care for the 2nd half of her twin pregnancy, had been very emphatic about communicating to this physician her goals for a.) delivering healthy babies as a first priority and b.) attempting as much as possible to avoid a C-section Initially, it seemed that Dr. Gapinski was on board with helping her achieve these two goals, however during the labor and delivery, things took a quick and drastic turn for the worse. Due to a postterm pregnancy, my sister and her physician decided it would be best to schedule an induction. After several hours of labor, and what seemed like good progress made based on two nursing assessments, Dr. Gapinski came to see my sister and declared that the assessments of the nurses were incorrect, and that she was not as far along in the labor as it appeared. He suggested that he would come back to asses her again in a few hours and if no change had occurred the recommendation would be a C-section. Importantly, the babies were both doing beautifully on the monitors, as was mom. No sign of any danger whatsoever. At this point, my sister reiterated her fear/anxiety related to the C-section and restated that (just as Dr. Gapinski had said) she would like to "wait to make that determination after" he rechecked her in a couple of hours. This is where the situation became very ugly. Dr. Gapinski got very upset, and asked mom, "so what do you think the plan of care should be?" He proceeded to give her a lecture about the C-section being the only course of action that is correct, cutting her off several times as she tried to ask questions and voice her concerns yet again. At this point, I spoke up (he didn't know my credentials, not having bothered to introduce himself up to this point) calmly and politely mentioning that the babies seemed to be doing really well on the monitor and that she is just hoping to avoid surgery. Dr. Gapinski proceeded to ask if I was her doula and, without really listening to an answer, turned to me and said, "and how many twin births have you delivered?" He then stated that he would be "removing himself from the situation" and would not be dealing with this until he came back to recheck mom in a few hours. Before he left, however, he also indirectly asked the father of the twins to persuade his wife that the C-section was the best idea so that "little Johnny will not have trouble in school someday." Long story short, my sister was left in tears over the way this doctor not only refused to listen to her concerns but also pressured her into making a decision by fear mongering. I have to say that this was, indeed, a very sad doctor-patient moment to witness. Patients who educate themselves and are pro-active about their health should be applauded, not degraded. I shudder to think of the women who may not have the wealth of information my sister did to question and stand up to this doctor's ego. Whether or not Dr. Gapinski is skilled in his craft is probably not up for debate - he's been doing this a long time - but his abrasive attitude and profound lack of interest in cooperating with his patients are very big reasons why I would recommend avoiding this doctor if you have the choice. read more

I have a high standard for OB/GYNs and am not afraid to try another Dr. if I feel I am not being treated well. I have had issues with some other Dr.s in the past with poor/impossible scheduling, bad bedside manner, forgetting my prescription information in the system, seeing different doctors each visit, etc. but Dr Gapinski and his office surpassed my expectations. Not only is his office clean, organized, and close to home, his nurses and staff are very friendly, attentive, and seem to care. I have never had an issue getting an appointment within a reasonable time. Dr. G is super outgoing, knows how to make you feel comfortable, and takes the extra time to get to know his patients and listen to any concerns. I would definately recommend Dr. Gapinski! read more

Fantastic doctor, has gone out of his way for me over 2 deliveries and years of gynecological exams/ etc. Spends time talking about his family, can send and receive messages to him easily. Staff knows who I am when I go and I never have an issue getting in when I need to. Some doctors in large practices lose their personality behind many partners, Dr. Gapinski is a sole practitioner and does a great job making you feel special and safe. yes, there are times perhaps a delivery may pull him away,,,,but if it was YOU delivering you wouldn't want him to make you wait to delivery, so I have no issue waiting a bit once a year if that indeed happens (has only happened once in 20 years!) I see some reviews about him that are very unfair, very selfish. In the land of medicine things happen, and Dr. Gapinski will jump to make sure those that need him most are helped first, as he should, but once he gets into your room he's focused and listens. Always. I trust him, for myself and in the future for my daughters, which is saying a lot. read more

Dr. Gapinski was able to give us sound medical advice as well as great counsel. I am happy to say we have been able to have two children since we began seeing him. I chose Dr. Gapinski due to the fact he was the only physician in the practice. I really wanted one on one care and have a good doctor to patient relationship. I had a high risk pregnancy as well and he did an outstanding job. Recently, I had some tests done and he called me on a Saturday to follow-up to see how I was feeling as well as called me again the following week. These days it's hard to find a doctor that actually gives you the time and shows you that YOU matter. I can't say enough great things about this practice the staff is very friendly as well as the NP Michelle. Awesome doctor! Dr. G is professional, but also funny. He takes the time to get to know your needs and has been available to me over the phone on multiple occasions. Wait times in his office are usually pretty short. Unlike my first pregnancy with a different practice, everything (except delivery) for my second pregnancy was done right in his office so no extra traveling for labs or ultrasounds. I also really like the fact that during my pregnancy, I knew exactly who would be delivering my baby, because he doesn't have any partners who rotate in and out. Not trying to get too personal but the delivery was not at all what I expected - it was a piece of cake with Dr. G. He kept telling different stories in between contractions which helped ease my mind. I will be recommending him to all my moms to be! read more

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Gapinski's office that threatened my life. I had come from another country with my illnesses already pretty far along. Unfortunately those records were in another language so they couldn't be read. Dr. Gapinski, and especially his nurses, refused to listen to anything I was saying about meds and things I had already tried that didn't work, and were forcing me through a standard process as if it were day 1 and I had not already been through a year of the illness, and it was making me significantly sicker. They were yelling at me and thinking I was being difficult. I was signed up to have surgery with Dr. Gapinski and it did not feel right. I went to my primary care physician to articulate my concerns and ask if she thought I should continue with the surgery. She said I was right to be concerned and got me an appointment the next day with the top gynecologist in the NorthShore practice, Dr. Lamar Tyler. He was on exactly the same page I was, and saved my life. I am so grateful I did not continue with Dr. Gapinski and shudder to think how much sicker I would have gotten. If you are the type to listen to everything the Dr tells you without having any input or questioning, regardless of how sick you're getting, by all means see him. But be warned. He and his nurses do not think your feedback is at all relevant to your health experience and will be obnoxious if you dare try to advocate for yourself. read more

I was told that I wouldn't be able to get in as a new patient for a month, but that they had a cancellation, so I took the appointment. They said they'd work with the fact that I probably didn't have time to get paperwork faxed (they wouldn't take email, like the rest of the modern population) in time. But when I got there for my appointment, they refused to see me without a very long wait because I didn't have paperwork faxed in. I thought this appointment was to fill in a cancellation, and that they would work with the fact that I didn't have paperwork prepared in advance. Every other doctor I've seen has expected patients to fill out the paperwork on site--why can't this doctor work with that? So I wasted my time with rude office staff who somehow expect that everyone has hours to spare sitting around a doctor's office because they can't be bothered to accept paperwork by email, or because Dr. Gapinski apparently can't treat patients who don't have fax machines. read more
