D.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s pizza!!! Upstairs in the Mercato Centrale, this place has their own wood fired ovens that all the pizzas are cooked in!! On the lower level (technically the 1st floor, above the ground floor) you can stand in line and take your pizza to-go; or you can go to the upper level (2nd level) to the sit down restaurant. The place is crowded but it's worth the wait- the ingredients are fresh and we had one of the tastiest pizzas we had in Italy (we ordered the Caprese pizza (same ingredients as a Caprese sandwich- tomatoes, basil, olive oil, and mozzarella cheese))!!

La Pizzeria Sud is located on the first floor of Mercato Centrale. The ground floor contains a farmers market of meats, cheeses, produce, pasta, and other assorted goods. The floor above it, referred to as the 1st floor by European standards, contains food stalls and a cooking school. It's similar to places such as the 4th street market, the Packing District, and Union Market in Southern California. The pizza here is without a doubt the best pizza I have ever tried! It's a Neapolitan pizza that is cooked in one of the two wood burning brick ovens. Neapolitan style pizzas have a thin and soft crust and are cooked at very high temperatures, around 900 degrees. The crust is soft and kind of elastic. It tasted incredible and reminds me of freshly prepared Afghani flat bread. Everything is prepared in front of the customers. I was amazed at how fast the pizzas were made from start to finish. By the time I ordered, the pizza was ready in about 5 minutes. The customer has a choice of 4 pizzas to choose from: Marinara - 8 euros - tomato sauce and olive oil Margherita - 8 euros - tomato sauce, sliced fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil Capri - 9.50 euros - basically a margherita pizza, but after it's cooked, it's topped with tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, fresh basil, and olive oil Napoli - 9.50 euros - a margherita pizza with anchovies added on after the pizza has cooked I was amazed at how fresh the ingredients were as well. Everything tasted incredible. Without a doubt this was the best pizza I tried. I had been extremely disappointed with pizza in Italy on my last visit, but now I see what real quality is. Ordering is simple. Simply tell the cashier what kind of pizza you want and then move to the side and wait till your number is called. It's extremely efficient and fast. The cashier understood perfect English and this place accepts credit cards as do all the places at the Mercato Centrale.

The margherita pizza is amazing. Made with all fresh ingredients. We sat on the upper floor and looked out over the different places to eat. Great people watching. The house white was exceptional and my hubby really enjoyed the procecco.

I went to Sud today for lunch-- and was pleasantly surprised! I had planned on going to my trusty Gusta Pizza, but didn't want to walk all the way to Santo Spirito in the rain. It's a bit confusing, because so many people are waiting around, that I was unsure where the line was to order. After I ordered, I realized there is a table service option upstairs which Inwiuld have preferred. They could do a better job with signage. I probably waited 10-15 minutes for my pizza, but will not let that affect my rating as it was prime lunch hour. I had the margherita pizza which was cooked to perfection. The bufala mozzarella was to DIE for and the crust was he perfect balance of crispy and chewy. Would definitely come again.

    Best pizza ever! Parmigiana

Best pizza ever! We had the parmigiana 2 nights in a row. The lines were so long but it was worth the wait! If you're ever at the Mercanto Centrale in Florence, do not miss the pizzas at Sud!

Tried pizza from Rome, Florence, and Venice... this place has the best. Service was good and you can watch them make it, if it isn't too crowded.

Margherita pizza on the top wasn't so great, but the one on the bottom was phenomenal.

Sud was recommended to me by a Florencetown guide who led our walking tour. I was most tempted by the fact that it was located in the historic Mercato Centrale which was a stop on our to do list while in Florence--it's definitely fun to walk around the bottom floor for produce and goods before heading upstairs for lunch or dinner. I LOVED my pizza--loaded with out of this world fresh tomatoes, huge pieces of mozzarella, flavorful basil, and topped with the traditional extra virgin olive oil. However, I can't give this place 5 stars: the service was rather slow for the amount of people that were present and my family members were very disappointed in their Margherita pizza.

Had the parmigiana with eggplant and it was the best pizza we had during 10 day trip and open pretty late if needed.

Excellent Neopolitan-style pizza. Lots of seating upstairs with table service. Highly recommend.

We ordered the margherita, which was a super simple pizza (basically fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil) but was stunning.
