Visiting Harrisonburg, I stopped by Cook Out because I thought it was a BBQ place. I quickly…read morerealized it was something completely different, and I am really glad I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised because it felt like eating at my in-laws' home with comforting, homemade-style food that really hit the spot. I was not sure what to order, so I opted for the burger tray that came with two sides and an unsweetened iced tea. Holy smokes, the burger was totally unexpected and absolutely delicious. I also ordered onion rings and cheese bites, and they were crispy, hot, and fresh. I came back again and tried the Walking Taco, which is a bag of Doritos opened up and topped with seasoned taco meat, melted cheese, lettuce, and other taco toppings served right inside the bag. It is a fun twist on tacos and was much better than I expected. Then I came back a third day and had the quesadillas and corn dog. Okay, yes, three days in a row is a little excessive, but the food is really that good. The service is fast, and the restaurant is clean. What impressed me the most was how consistent everything was on each visit, from the quality of the food to the friendly service. But most of all, my belly was full, and this is definitely a place you must visit if you are in the Harrisonburg area.

Staff were helpful, first time in , I went with Eva, employee where I stayed at Extended Stay recommended, breakfast burrito. After I drove 30 minutes home I discovered I had three pieces of sausage in a bowl. When I called the store to inquire about the pieces of sausage, the manager basically called me a liar. She said she had a headset on and distinctly heard me order three sides of sausage. I told her first of all, you can barely hear the employee speaking over the loudspeaker in the drive-through. Second, I had no idea what a side of sausage even was. The person taking my order got it incorrect initially and I had to correct them. To the best of my ability, I thought I heard the rest of my order correctly. I don't care as much about the incorrect order as I care about the manager insinuating I was lying. She eventually did offer to replace the pieces of sausage with actual biscuits, which I declined. I informed her that if I decided to drive 30 miles for sausage biscuits, I would most certainly purchase my own. Not telling customers you believe that they're lying would go a long way toward good customer service.

Diner vibes, but not put on, with memorabilia on display from their long tenure here. You order from a land line phone at your table, or even from your car, and kids meals come in unique boxes to make the little ones happy. None of the food they serve is particularly amazing, but none of it is bad either. It's solid and will fill you up. But the star of the show are the prices. I live in Richmond, and you can't get lunch anywhere for under $15/person. Here, that $15 will cover two meals easily. And it really is a good place for the whole family.

This place started around 1952. The order was given from a touch tone phone at the table to the front counter. We thought tnat some of the younger customers would not know how to use a dial telephone. Drive through service is also available, as it has been since the 1950's. Ordered a burger basket (burger and fries) $8., a chicken tender basket (five chicken tenders with fries) $11.50, onion rings, chocolate malted milkshake, chocolate ice cream dish, We got the food in about fifteen minutes brought to our table. Very reasonable. The 2 oz burger that I received was worst of all the items that I had. It was tasteless and reminded me of a smalll burger at Burger King. 1.5 stars. do not recommend it. We hope that the recipe for the burger would be improved. The crinkle cut French fries were average 3 to 3.5 stars and not plentiful. Could have used more. The onion rings were one of the two great items that we had. They were very good in every way. 4 plus stars. My mallted milk shake was good and the price was reasonable. It was appropriate for a 1950's restaurant. 4 stars. The chicken tenders were large had good taste. 4 stars. Rolls came with the chicken tenders. They were soft and had good taste. 4 stars. The chocolate ice cream, along with the onion rings was the standout best item that we had. 5 stars for the chocolate ice cream. It was creamy with a deep chocolate flavor and the ingredients in it were quality ingredients. Loved it. We enjoyed the good music with the meal. Everyone who worked there was very nice to us, including the manager. We will love to dine there again and hope that it can be soon. Thank you for the nice 1950's style food.
