I enjoy going for the Wi-Fi and an iced tea. Have your laptop fully charged as there are no electrical outlets.

Hidden in a little town, not too far from the Shiner Brewery is this little gem! We found it threw…read moreYelp/Google of places nearby that had some good reviews, and I am so glad we stopped here. The place is quite large when you walk in, it looks like a smaller house from the outside. When we walked in, someone came from behind the counter to greet us and told us to choose where ever we liked, since it was mid-day there was plenty to choose from. When we sat, we were asked our drink order and I ordered a bowl of queso! Which is a white queso!! We were hungry, so as soon as it hit the table, the I dip, you dip, we dip, began!! The salsa is one of the best I'd had in a while. You could tell it was fresh, and had just a little kick in and and the chips were nice and warm, just like I like em! I opted for the tacos with 2 bistec y 2 al pastor! I asked if they did grilled piña for the pastor, and they didn't, I was sad, but not sad when the plate arrived!!! The tacos were plenty filled with lots of meat, and the side fixin's of onions y cilantro. I asked for refried over the regular, because in looking at the photos, I knew the beans were going to be amazing. I started eating immediately! The food was sooo good...the bistec was flavored just right, and so was the al pastor. I'm not sure which I liked more. And that combo with the beans. The only thing I wish I had done differently is add cheese, bc my friend or ordered the taco plate had gotten it on his, and it looked devine! Great stop and if ever in this part of Texas again, will be coming back by!

The place was empty upon walking in, except one table that had a party of 3 was occupied, they left soon after. It looks like it would be a place for family party that you could rent out easily. Service- was good, I didnt catch the young ladys name. She took a while considering it was only 1 table of us, but it was ok. She answered our questions and explained items. But wasn't what I would call warm or engaging. Food- we had chips/salsa to start. Salsa tasted from scratch. And we also orderd the blanco queso to share. I love queso so no issues there. My entree I had the shrimp enchiladas. Since I wanted red sauce and not green sauce, she suggested to get the chiptole sauce enchiladas instead. She said it wasn't spciy, but I found it was more of a kick than I expected. But when eating it along with the beans/rice it was fine and cooled out. Overall, easy mom and pop family restaurant.

I was pleasantly surprised at the absolutely amazing freshness and quality of the food and modern/light atmosphere of this place (a bit unexpected after a few lackluster food experiences in Schulenberg leading up to our lunch here). It was every bit at good as some of the cafes I've eaten in major cities (where there is heavy dining competition). Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!

The fish tacos were perfectly fried mahi-mahi filets on a fresh flour tortilla and perfectly dressed. The outdoor seating was perfect for the weather, though many other diners were enjoying the ambiance inside. Anfmd you HAVE to try the bread pudding! :-D

Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.
