Hidden in a little town, not too far from the Shiner Brewery is this little gem! We found it threw Yelp/Google of places nearby that had some good reviews, and I am so glad we stopped here. The place is quite large when you walk in, it looks like a smaller house from the outside. When we walked in, someone came from behind the counter to greet us and told us to choose where ever we liked, since it was mid-day there was plenty to choose from. When we sat, we were asked our drink order and I ordered a bowl of queso! Which is a white queso!! We were hungry, so as soon as it hit the table, the I dip, you dip, we dip, began!! The salsa is one of the best I'd had in a while. You could tell it was fresh, and had just a little kick in and and the chips were nice and warm, just like I like em! I opted for the tacos with 2 bistec y 2 al pastor! I asked if they did grilled piña for the pastor, and they didn't, I was sad, but not sad when the plate arrived!!! The tacos were plenty filled with lots of meat, and the side fixin's of onions y cilantro. I asked for refried over the regular, because in looking at the photos, I knew the beans were going to be amazing. I started eating immediately! The food was sooo good...the bistec was flavored just right, and so was the al pastor. I'm not sure which I liked more. And that combo with the beans. The only thing I wish I had done differently is add cheese, bc my friend or ordered the taco plate had gotten it on his, and it looked devine! My Yelp friends and I came here after having a drink at Shiner brewery nearby. This place is unassuming, looks like a house that got converted to a restaurant. Parking right out front. The place was empty upon walking in, except one table that had a party of 3 was occupied, they left soon after. It looks like it would be a place for family party that you could rent out easily. Service- was good, I didnt catch the young ladys name. She took a while considering it was only 1 table of us, but it was ok. She answered our questions and explained items. But wasn't what I would call warm or engaging. Food- we had chips/salsa to start. Salsa tasted from scratch. And we also orderd the blanco queso to share. I love queso so no issues there. My entree I had the shrimp enchiladas. Since I wanted red sauce and not green sauce, she suggested to get the chiptole sauce enchiladas instead. She said it wasn't spciy, but I found it was more of a kick than I expected. But when eating it along with the beans/rice it was fine and cooled out. After checking out The Shiner Brewery,we were looking for a place to have an early Saturday lunch. The first place we Googled was closed, the 2nd place was Fridays but, it's not the TFIF restaurant, it's Fridays Fried Chicken - ugh. We ended up at La Terraza de Jalisco, the only place which was opened and looked half way decent. So, Mexican food it is. This place is a bit unusual for being Mexican. Pictured here is the Carne Asada plate covered with Green Beans. I've never seen this before. The Green Beans were overcooked & limp so I scrapped most of them off. It also appeared Velveeta Cheese was used for the Club Sandwich my girlfriend ordered. Perhaps this is Southern take on classic meals. The service was good, beer was served cold and included chilled glasses which I always think is a plus. Ambiance is clean, casual and with ample seating indoors only however there is a drive-thru is you want your food to go. While this restaurant is good, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way but, it was one of the few which was opened mid-morning on a Saturday. As always - Eat in Good Health. read more

Although they are a little hit or miss, for a small town restaurant La Terraza isn't bad. I have eaten here numerous times and have tried my way through a fair amount of the menu. Some of their items would fly in a major city and others just aren't good at all. The beef fajitas are a hard pass. It's low quality beef that is barely seasoned, dry, and doesn't taste marinaded either. As much as I want to try the Carne Asada i'm simply not risking it because it's likely just as unimpressive. The chicken fajitas are just a little bit better but still very dry & lackluster. The picadillo is bland & soupy making for one very, very, messy taco. The hamburger is OK and not any better than OK. I guess what I'm trying to say here is generally avoid beef dishes except for two. The Barbacoa is excellent & as good or better than any I've had at some of the best restaurants in San Antonio. It needs a little salt on it to wake it up (but Barbacoa always does) and after that it's one of the best things on their menu. The Carne Guisada also stacks up very high. The gravy is excellent and this is also one of their best dishes. The breakfast tacos can be as good as you'll find in any major city or they can be average. I'm still trying to figure it out but it seems like they taste better if you get them before 11 AM. The tortilla soup is pretty good but I recommend getting the fried tortilla strips on the side because they kind of go overboard with them. The shrimp and fish stew was kind of a nice surprise I tried recently and something I would get again. The tortas are serviceable but a little greasy for my liking & the burritos aren't bad as long as you don't get one with beef. A couple of my friends really like their quesadillas but I have yet to try them. For their enchiladas I have only had the red sauce but I like it for sure. The problem is that the last two times I have gotten cheese enchiladas the cheese in the middle was not melted. When they came back out both times they had been overdone in the microwave so I just don't order them anymore. The service is what it is. Everyone is friendly but you're not likely to see your server after your entrée is dropped off unless you're going through drink refills. For a restaurant in a town of only 2000 people, La Terraza is one of the better places to eat in my opinion. They miss on some entrees but they can compete with the big boys on some others. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives and it is a place worth checking out. read more

My wife and I decided to take a chance before the brewery tour and eat in Shiner instead. That decision really paid off as we selected La Terraza De Jalisco to eat lunch at. **Review will be food only - we didn't have any drinks** The restaurant looks like it was a house converted and has kind of a quick sit in type vibe so we were definitely unsure of what to expect. We were sat, given chips and salsa and decided to split an entree with a couple of tacos. Plate sizes are pretty generous so take that into consideration before ordering especially if you have a long drive back. The tacos in the front of the menu are also about 3 times the size of street tacos for comparison. We ordered number 33, an Asada taco and a pork taco. The tortillas were absolutely delicious - not sure how they made the tortillas for the regular tacos but it was definitely different than the standard tortilla I usually eat. Everything else was so good we didn't end up putting sauce or condiments on any of our food. We also made it a point to wait until we got back home to post a review so we could write it properly. For dinner I ordered the enchiladas verdes and everything was excellent and for breakfast I ordered the migas verdes and they where awesome. On a road trip we found ourselves in town and decided to try it out. The decor isn't spectacular but the food was great. I had the combo plate and added a al pastor taco. I couldve ordered four of those al pastors and been happy. They were excellent. It came on a flour tortilla instead of corn and was much bigger than i was expecting. Not complaining at all. The combo plate was tasty all around and the refried beans and rice were both better than average. The hubby had the shrimp enchiladas and he said it was full of shrimp and tasty. I have been here with my family a couple of times and the service is always courteous. Our waitress is always attentive to our needs. The food is good and I personally Love the carne asada mini tacos. They are life! I always order mine Mexican street style with a little bit of onion & cilantro on the side. Terraza?. I hope I don't get sick from eating here. This place is rather filthy. Walking in, I found giant clods of mud on the floor of the dining area. Not a good start. The restroom was cramped, which is probably because they have three sinks (all different sizes) installed in there. I found the coffee to be watery, and tasted like cleanser. The soapiness made it undrinkable. The menu has some things that you don't typically see on a Mexican restaurant breakfast menu- chiliquiles verde and rojo! My fav! Unfortunately, the food was rather bad. I found a black hair in my food. The beans were obviously pre cooked, and had a big chunk of burned beans in them- crispy and charred. The staff was friendly to the customers. I could hear them yelling at each other in the back. My favorite part is how one of the chefs sings Spanish songs loudly in the back. There's a drive-thru. The food came out quickly. The dining room is large, with creative Mexican stuff around on the walls. My table was bent, and things rolled off the table because of the lean. Parking is ample, seeing how few people choose to eat here. Many of the parking spots have cryptic painting in them- is that a handicapped symbol they were trying to freehand, or is that a warning sign about the restaurant? I'm glad Richard K got this added to Yelp, because this place is legit. As a San Antonio native, I can say with authority that in my expert opinion, this Mexican restaurant is solid. Good regular salsa, A+ green salsa, good daily specials, good queso, good caldo, daily menudo, good gorditas, daily horchata (if made from the powder), good tortas. And all of it reasonably priced. Sweet baby Jesus in heaven..... this food was goooooood. Driving on Highway 90 and coming up to Shiner, and wanted a little something to nosh on for an early dinner. After reading the reviews on yelp, I was convinced, I had to stop. Yes the food is great, yes the place is cold, yes the service is friendly and no the tables and place are not dirty. Those were things I'd heard mentioned in the other reviews for this place. Some were true, some were complete lies! Ha. Anyway, the food was phenomenal. I kind of want to move to Shiner now, just to be closer to this place. The sweet tea isn't too sweet, it's just right. The tortillas were light and fluffy. I had the Pollo Monterrey and it was so so good, I ate more than I planned. The rice and beans were good enough to be a meal on their own. Green and red salsa made me happy too.
